The radio production of HGttG is the best form, IMHO. I have it in a boxed CD

My orders from FCPEURO are very prompt. I have always had issues with shipping

Not the case with UPS and the last order from FCPEURO was FedEx and very prompt
also. I am East of the Mississippi, and it seems anything from the West coast
takes the slow ride to get here. I'm sure the flooding isn't helping ship times
either.

pretty much any ground shipment takes a week to get delivered.  I am
pretty sure both oops and fedup hold ground shipments so they are not
delivered until 7 days from shipment.   This encourages the suckers to
pay for 2 day or next day at 3x or more cost, resulting in much higher
profits.

Got the parts from Autohaus. Not too impressed with them this time.

No football, there's an insulated pipe that splits between the EGR and

When we built our house in Wisconsin I made what would have been the formal
living room the library. Oak raised panel walls, dark carpet, the whole
shebang. Floor to ceiling bookshelves on three walls.

When we moved to Florida I drove a small UHaul truck down, the whole thing
being almost nothing but books so we could save some money on the moving cost.
I have no idea how many books we had at the time, but it was substantial.

We’ve since pared down the library to maybe 1,000 books, if that. Most were
donated to lending libraries or charities that put them into circulation in
some manner.

2019-05-13 Thread OK Don via Mercedes
Well, we have over 500 books in the house now, at least. As someone said,
"A room without books has no soul".
We only listen to audio books when driving cross country (weather is too
bad to fly, or we need the truck to haul something).

2019-05-13 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
I can understand that, as well as the use of resources it takes to make books.
However, I feel that there’s something pleasantly tactile about turning pages,
and I can take a book with me anywhere and don’t have to worry about charging
or glare from the sun. I can also loan it out to others who want to read it,
too.

I’m sort of “meh” on audiobooks, as a lot hinges on who is reading it. I got
shtupped into buying a Bill O’Reilly book about the “death” of Patton and after
a few minutes of his annoying voice and the conspiracy theory approach in the
book, I stopped. I’ve bought others and been pleased, I am just a lot more
careful about them after the Patton debacle. I like to listen on my commute.

I go back and forth, mostly on paper books right now, I've picked up a lot of
good ones recently.Right now I'm reading "Killing the SS". No matter what you
think of O'Reilly's politics or tv presentation style he's a pretty good
author. I wouldn't have picked this out for myself, it was a Christmas present
which I'm quite enjoying.

[MBZ] OT: Detective stories, James Bond, and Spys (for the readers and SC boys)

2019-05-13 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes
Finished a very interesting book.  THe story itself is quite
interesting, and the references in the text to authors, and their
detective stories, spy stories and how they are are related to Operation
Mincemeat makes the book even more interesting.  The book also has
pictures of many of the people involved with Operation Mincemeat.

OPERATION MINCEMEAT

By Ben MacIntyre

Operation Mincemeat was an operation executed in WWII before the
invasion of Sicily by the Allies to make the Germans believe the
invasions would occur in Greece and in the Western Mediterranian. It was
conceived by a British intelligence officer named Ian Fleming. Yes, the
man who would later invent the world’s most famous spy, Bond, James Bond.

The author noted that many authors had experience in the
intelligence/spy world.

Among the spys turned author are

Somerset Maugham

John Buchanan

Ian Fleming

Graham Greene

John LeCarré

This is a listing of books, authors and series mentioned in the book,
Operation Mincemeat.

Ewen Montagu, one of the masterminds of Operation Mincemeat wrote:

The Man Who Never Was (1953) later made into a movie (a partial,
government approved, story about Operation Mincemeat)

Beyond Top Secret ULTRA (1977)

Ben MacIntyre also wrote: Agent ZigZag, another true story of a double
agent in WWII.

Basil Thompson:

Death In the Bathroom

Richardson Scores Again

The Milliner’s Hat Mystery

T.E. Lawrence (Yes, Lawrence of Arabia)

The Seven Pillars of Wisdom

John Masterman wrote several detective novels. He was the chair of the
XX group, who ran the double agents.

The Case of the Four Friends

Chinese book written in the 1200s: The Washing Away of Wrongs

Grahm Greene

Our Man in Havana (also a WWII true spy story, at least as the basis)

Allan Hilgarth

The War Maker

The Boys Own Paper

The Black Mountain

Sydney Mosley wrote an unofficial history of Operation Mincemeat

Alfred Duff Cooper (Viscount Norwich)

Operation Heartbreak, a novel based on Operation Mincemeat

Ian Colvin

Unknown Courier ( a history of Operation Mincemeat)

Ivor Montegu, Brother of Ewen, and a probably Soviet spy

Cowrote the movie “Scott of the Antarctic” (1948)

The 1958 movie “Darby’s Rangers” featuring Bill Darby, founder of the
Army Rangers. Darby was a passenger on the British Submarine “Seraph”
which was also used for Operation Mincemeat. Darby was involved in the
invasion of Sicily, thus protected somewhat by Operation Mincemeat.

The periscope and conning tower of the British Submarine “Seraph” used
in Operation Mincemeat and by Bill Darby and some of his Rangers are
preserved and memorialized at the Citadel in South Carolina.

Give Arnicare a look. It's an old Homeopathic med that has been used since
before Rome was in power. A company called BOIRON makes a product called
"Arnicare Arthritis" . If you have a health food store near you, likely
they will have it.
I use it to some good effect, others I've steered to it have had success as
well. Might work for you. It's doesn't interact with other drugs, has no
side effects, etc... so pretty safe to try.
It is a natural anti inflammation so works at the source of arthritis..
[fancy latin medical word meaning "inflamed joints"]

[MBZ] OT: Not good news for people who eat

2019-05-13 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes

Many farms are going bankrupt.  The unreported flooding in the
Mississippi river valley has cause loss or partial loss of the current
year crop, and water in grain bins makes the grain swell and burst the
bin.  this grain has to be destroyed by law.  There is no insurance on
the grain.  The farmers lose stored grain, and the current crop.  This
puts them out of business unless they have other assets they can sell to
keep afloat.

On top of that bad news, there is this form the USDA, also not good for
those of us who buy food.

2.

“According to a report recently released by the USDA’s Economic
Research Service (ERS), U.S. farmers and ranchers earn just 14.6
cents for every dollar American consumers spend on food. This value
marks a 17% drop since 2011 and marks the smallest portion of the
American food dollar that farmers have received since the USDA began
reporting this data in 1993. The remaining 85.4 cents cover off-farm
costs, including processing, wholesaling, distribution, marketing,
   and retailing.”

When I was a kid, people used to rub DMSO on their joints.
I seem to recall somebody saying that WD40 was Kerosene and DMSO back then, but
I just looked it up and it seems to be mostly Naptha. Anyway, I can't find any
reference to sulfates in WD, so I doubt it used DMSO for a penetrating
additive.

I’m not lurking on that FB group. I’m involved with too many online forums as
it is. I really despise FB, but there are a couple of groups I want to keep an
eye on, so I belong to them and that’s it. Someone in the W123 group sent me a
copy of the person’s “request for recommendation” looking for someone to check
out a car in Tampa.

And yes, considering that time is money, I think $150 is a fair price for the
level of detail and scrutiny I provide. We’ll see.

My bad! I forgot to put her address on it in place of the groups address. After
I saw what I had done, I decided to wait until I had chosen a particular
product to write her, so I didn't send it.
Thanks for reminding me Craig.

diesel it could be a bit tricky. But it would probably be possible.

Mismatched paint for sure. The problem is that if you check it out for one or
the 123 fake book people they probably won’t listen to what you have to say
anyway.

You are most welcome, Gerry. I'm glad to see the information I gathered
is helping someone.

BTW, you sent a message to the List with the greeting,

  Hi Diana,
Here's some stuff to try if the love bugs get bad
  Love, Pop

Did you send it to Diana separately, or do you need to send it to her now?

Run a choke cable from the flipper valve on the engine air intake, to the cab.
Wind the engine up in a low gear and start closing the flipper valve,
restricting the air to the engine. Might work.
