Re: [MBZ] motor knocking still runs 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E 320 CDI Sedan 4D, $2, 500

2022-03-18 Thread Robert Massmann via Mercedes
The package included a second engine, which I installed and then started
driving, although I seem to remember that the transmission had to be replaced
as well. I suppose one of these days I should try and rebuild the original
engine and put it back in the car it came from. Retired, but that doesn’t
really mean I have the time to put that in motion at the moment.

Yes that’s a concern. If he wants to sell the rental properties I don’t care.
We already made a good profit on appreciation alone. If he wants to sell the
car I don’t really care either as I wouldn’t have any serious attachment to it.
It’s not a Mercedes after all! I view the 911 as an investment that can be
enjoyed. They just keep appreciating.

I have had 2 porsches. A 912 and a 911 both 1968. 912 new and 911 1 year
old. First wife wrecked the 912.
I drove like an absolute idiot and the cars forgave my errors whilst giving

That said, I have worked on many-a Porsche and they rust and have high

I'd sell it outright, or to CarMax.
Private party, I'd be honest about it's faults.

Caveat emptor.
I'd take the cash and buy something with a proven track record for reliability.
Which probably means a soulless econo-box. I would most definitely NOT be

Or if I was retired and wanted a project, I would fix it myself.

alarm. Is there an easy way to adjust the release lever to make it less

That’s why I always make sure my emergency/parking brake is in good working
order. It won’t help in a panic stop, but under most circumstances it can do
the job enough to get the car in a safe place.

Good point.  It's a DIY but if you have to pay someone it would be 3X
that at least (and could be a bit more depending on how you acquire a
CP).  New CP is $850, then swap, then programming ($400 or more), then
fluid/filter for $150 or so for materials, add labor to all that and
you're looking at $2k IF the shop doesn't just say "you need a new
transmission" like the told the guy I bought the $900E500 from.

I had a situation with my car a couple of years back where the brakes
gave out. The master cylinder gave up. I was in the city traffic and
stopped at a red light. I was first in line and on a slight incline and
the car crept ahead. Initially, I thought I hadn't stepped hard enough
on the brake. The light turned and I drove away, but the first time I
stepped on the brake pedal it sunk towards the floor and I knew I had a
problem. I was only a few blocks from home so took it home and into the

happened had I needed to do a panic stop.

"The Nissan" is a pretty broad stroke. Nissan makes many different models. The
little crappy ones probably aren't great in a crash, the big ones are probably
better.

When we were shopping pickup trucks I really liked the Nissan Titan except for
the padded center console/arm rest thing that had no storage in it which I
thought was a waste of space.

It sounds like the real issue was probably the  poor condition of the

driving too fast on a junk tire so it may not have mattered who was

Re: [MBZ] $6K Repair or Different Vehicle

2022-03-18 Thread Robert Massmann via Mercedes
I bought a 2002 BMW 525i from a charity auction that wasn’t too far away,
couldn’t inspect before purchase. Paid $900 for it, 600 for the car and 300 to
the charity. Got it home and found that the engine had a coolant leak into the
oil. Car had been sitting about 6 months, so the engine was toasted, still
turned, cam was quite rusted too. Bought a running replacement engine for $600
plus $100 for shipping. Engine was sold as running, when it entered the yard.
Engine hasn’t missed a beat since I got it on the road. Yes it was an effort,
but it was more a test to see what I could do and it has been a very
comfortable ride. Have driven it about 45,000 mile since the engine swap over
the last 5 years.

I believe I would do it again if I had too. Just finished the oil cooler seal
repair on my 2012 ML350 Bluetec, which was a scary thing to start on my nicest
car.

2022-03-18 Thread Andrew Strasfogel via Mercedes
In Texas it's not unusual for 13 year olds to drive.

Only use is as a $1.5k beater, assuming you can get the hood to close so it
doesn't fly open when driving.

[MBZ] Im looking to trade this car mostly but 6000$ would also be fine. 1984 Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-Benz 300 SD Sedan 4D, $100

2022-03-18 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes

METH WILL DO THIS TO YOU

It is primed ready to be painted and has a hood exit exhaust. There is
nothing done to the engine except for a cold air intake. The driver and
passenger seats are ripped and the back seat has a hole in it from a
battery. I have all the door panels but only the front two are on the
back two clips broke. It has brand new led lights in it. It is pretty
loud it has an after market radio and a complete aftermarket sound
system, It’s not the best but it’s sounds pretty good. It’s a fun car.

2022-03-18 Thread Karl Wittnebel via Mercedes
Another vote for used engine. Used cars are insane right now. Couple grand
to install the 500 dollar motor and drive on. Otherwise buy a used nissan
sentra or toyota corolla with a stick and just pay the money.
