Re: [MBZ] Does the 642 oil cooler have coolant flowing thru it?
This 270kmi GL450 I just got is showing a malf on the air suspension and the code is saying it’s taking too long to pump up but it’s keeping up fine. I haven’t done any troubleshooting on it, I can hear the pump running and it’s kinda noisy. I’m guessing it’ll need another pump soon or maybe there’s a leak somewhere --FT Sent from iFōn > On Mar 2, 2023, at 5:57 PM, Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes > wrote: > > Today I replaced the air suspension pump for the 3rd time in 2 years on the > Hoovie GL. Re: [MBZ] CIS Fun
Most likely leak point is the check valve in the fuel pump (the anti-return valve, German is a strange language). Second wear point on a W116 is likely to be the plunger seal in the fuel distributor. this can also cause hard starts hot by flooding the engine as the fuel drips out with the engine off until the accumulator is empty. The accumulator is a can in the fuel line, looks like a filter but isn’t. Just a diaphram and spring, holds approx 100mL of fuel I think, maybe 150. It’s there to prevent vapor lock on hard starts. Next most likely is leaking fuel nozzles, if you have not changed them do so. You can also have a bad pressure regulator valve that leaks back into the tank. I’m getting ready to dig into the KE-Jet on the wagon, it goes way rich, probably because the 35 year old oxygen sensor is shot. Stays in limp mode, and its a real pain because occasionally it will work and lean the engine out to the point it stalls. > On Mar 2, 2023, at 4:48 PM, Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes > wrote: > > I am actually sort of having fun playing with the CIS and learning all about > it. Re: [MBZ] CIS Fun
I went through the CIS troubleshooting steps using a HF gauge set back when the 450SLC stopped starting. Everything checked out good. The problem turned out to be all the rock hard rubber tubes and bits under the intake manifold were leaking air. Replaced all of those, had the heads reworked while I was there, etc., and it ran great. [MBZ] CIS Fun
I am actually sort of having fun playing with the CIS and learning all about it. After spending a lot of time jacking around with the HF fuel gauge set and not getting accurate readings, I spent $130 on the correct test set that I picked up on ebay. Within minutes I am starting to narrow down the issue. I am running thru the tests that are spelled out in a training doc I found on w116.org that tells you which tests to run based on what the issue is. Test 3 tests the system pressure. This is done with the engine off, turn key on with valve closed on the gauge mine is dead on. Next test is testing static pressure. For this test, you open gauge, turn key on for about 30 seconds to fill the accumulator, then turn off. It says pressure is supposed to be 2.8bar. Since there is not a range, I assume it must be exact? While the pump is running it only shows .5 bar. After key is turned off, pressure builds up but mine only gets to about 2.5 bar. The test then says within 30 minutes it can leak down to 2.5 bar, so .3 bar leak off. After about 8 minutes mine has lost about .4 bar. So, this is the first issue to correct. Items it says to check for leaks are the cold start valve (done, it is not leaking), fuel pump non return valve (where is this?), accumulator for leaking diagram (is this the deal back by the pump?), pressure compensating valve (not sure where this is either), FD for internal leaking around control plunger or o-rings of metering sleeve. I will be digging into this further but this is just a quick check of the system so far. Without throwing parts at the thing, which if these items it a most likely cause? I figured somebody that has dealt with CIS a lot would run into some common issues. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

We have a Worx mini 10” 20v chainsaw that has a pole to convert it into a pole saw. It was good enough to cut a tree that had fallen onto our chain link fence last June. The tree was about 5” thick. We had the weed whacker as well with 3 batteries between them. It’s just what we need for occasional cutting and trimming. I like that my 445 has secondary air injection which means no smoke when it's running. I've had it for 15-16 years now. I did finally upgrade to a semi-chisel chain instead of a safety chain. It cuts a lot faster... -Curt On Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at 10:51:22 PM EST, Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes wrote: The one I have is a poulon pro or whatever they are called from Lowes. Re: [MBZ] Chain saws
We've got a Harbor Freight cordless saw at camp. It works great for a trimming saw and for taking small firewood. https://photos.app.goo.gl/VfawMmz3d8NBTuh96 In the picture I've cut all the wood in the tractor bucket on that one small battery. We should get a larger battery or a larger saw. Makita makes a 36v saw that uses 2x 18v batteries. I've got a circular saw that works the same way. That saw is highly rated, priced like a gas saw though... For the gas saw I use nothing but canned gas and I've had way fewer problems since I started that. -Curt On Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at 10:21:32 PM EST, Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes wrote: Has anyone bought an electric chain saw? I have a gas powered one but I use it very little, and when I do need to use it, the damn thing requires a lot of hassle to get it started. Usually because I fail to drain the gas out of it. I guess since I never know when I am going to use it, I should drain the gas each time. Last year I needed to use it but could never get it to start and run. I am sure the carb needs to be cleaned out, or replaced. Due to infrequent use, perhaps I should buy an electric one? ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
