Dryer vent hose for gas dryers must be all metal.

Those look like the gas dryer vent hose I installed in Los Alamos.

Re: [MBZ] Okie alignment

2023-10-07 Thread Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes
I checked and they all appear to be working. I then had the thought that
perhaps the toe is so far out on the front that the wheel on that side is
cocked out enough to where there is not a line of sure to the back sensor. Sure
enough turning the wheel a little fixed that issue. For some reason I’m getting
an error for the RF saying the toe transducer has a problem. That’s the error I
was getting when I would block the eye, then that error would pop up for a
second before going to the sensor blocked error. I’m done messing with it for
today but I think what I’m going to when to do is just a straight 2 wheel
alignment first to get the toe correct, then do a 4 wheel. Will see how it goes
tomorrow. Otherwise I will take it down somewhere to have it done as I’m going
to need to start driving the car week after next.

I might keep an eye out for a new set of sensor heads but the ones I found at
the moment they are asking more than I paid for the whole setup.

Re: [MBZ] W211 belt idler pully bolt

2023-10-07 Thread Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes
The fan should be really easy to pull out. Undo the clips holding it at top
then lift it up and disconnect the power. I don’t think there are any
bolts/screws holding it in

[MBZ] W211 belt idler pully bolt

2023-10-07 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
Replaced the noisy belt tensioner today, and thought I'd replace the idler
pully as well since it's also a bit noisy and I have the replacement that I
ordered accidentally.

However I cannot remove the bolt as it hits the fan shroud.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FWT0xXV_F66PaD9IMlpXBpxEjPajLavh/view?usp=sharing

Not thrilled with the idea of removing the fan, unless that's easier than it
appears? Thought about cutting the bit of bracing that's blocking the bolt, but
ideally don't want to do that.

Any tricks to this?

[MBZ] Okie alignment

2023-10-07 Thread Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes
Been messing with this alignment machine learning all about it today. I have
the car setup and the sensor heads compensated but I can’t get the 2 left
sensors to see each other. These have a IR beam from to back on each side; then
side to side on the front. At first the fronts could not see each other but one
of them had a mess of cob webs in the opening covering the eye. Cleaned that
out and they are fine. Now i still can’t get the left side to cooperate. If I
put my hand over the lens then remove it, machine says there is a problem with
the beam, then goes back to saying it’s blocked. It’s clear, nothing is in the
way, no cob webs blocking anything. Of course with this blocked I can’t get a
full set of readings

I may have to throw in the towel and take the car somewhere Monday to get
aligned.

Eh, it figures. I got the front right corner in the air and got underneath to
get at the fog light. Bulb is dead and despite having a box full of all sorts
of headlight bulbs, I have no 9006/HB4 bulbs. $40/pair at FLAPS or $20
delivered tomorrow by the Island of Large Wimmen.

Delivery it is!

[MBZ] CL600 Fun

2023-10-07 Thread dan penoff.com via Mercedes
Got some parts in for the CL600 this week, so I’ve been taking time here and
there to address the remaining issues.

Right rear brake light was out, which is a series of three circuit boards with
LEDs on them. Not sure why they did this other than maybe for brightness
without a lot of current, but every other lamp in the taillight assembly is a
standard incandescent lamp. Grrr.

Remove the taillight assembly and check the gasket for leaks (none! Yay!) then
remove the clamp that holds the three LED boards in place. Lift the boards out
and pull their socket and stab connectors apart. Reverse the procedure and
button things up. Right rear brake light is now functional! Nice!

Another issue I have been dealing with is the ABS/ESP/BAS module not seeing the
signal from the right rear speed sensor. I replaced the original sensor with a
decent quality (Delphi, OE are NLA, third party are mostly junk) part, but that
did not resolve the issue. Dummy Me should have paid closer attention rather
than just looking at the condition of the original part and assuming it was
bad. Anyway, further (logical) troubleshooting transpired and I “rang out” the
harness from the plug at the sensor to the pin and socket connector at the
module. All tested well.

I snagged a used ABS module on eBay from a local seller. I did try cleaning the
connectors on the harness and original module first, but that didn’t change
anything. I swapped out the module with the used one, and after resetting the
BAS, the ABS light has gone out and remains out. Huzzah!

I’ve had a good run today so I think I may leave things as-is for now. I need
to replace a driving light bulb, which I might still do just to top things off.

[MBZ] Anybody know anything about these air power bridge jacks?

2023-10-07 Thread Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes
This alignment lift has 2. The read one I connected air to and it tried to lift
the back of the car but didn’t seem to have enough power. When raising as soon
as the handles are released it starts dropping. It has a 3rd middle handle for
the release which appears when it’s raised to certain levels it catches on a
safety lock, to release it appears you raise jack off the lock then you can
move the release handle. Do these operate strictly air or is it driving a
hydraulic cylinder? The front one has its air connection fitting broken off
which I need to mess with. These jacks are pretty expensive to buy at a grand
more more each from what I can tell.
