The cupholders I refer to can be seen in picture three, residing between the front seats. I cannot fathom any other purpose for that contraption. Unless it is designed to hold spare oil and fuel filters? Rolled up magazines or perhaps some from of smartphone? I have read some comments that the lesser of the compact Mercedes cars, pre the 201, as being the forerunner of the C class, this is perhaps hair splitting and somewhat wrong. However you must agree that way back when the numbers on the back determined the snob factor, running from the 170 up to the 600. Then letters started to creep in and the rest is history. Yup, classic example of increasing the perceived value of an item. Apparently there are lots of people now going to storage auctions, bidding like crazy and expecting to find treasure. The thing that annoys me is that essentially the producers are lying by not advising people that there is manipulation going on, as such it is not real. Other shows advise that there re-enactments with actors, which essentially these shows are. Although to be fair, the pros do say that it's tough to make a living out of buying lockers and they do have flops now...and..again. Re: [MBZ] OT Quotes with comment
I can see that spending money on the poor is a problematic plan, insofar that it will not generate a lot of new jobs. However the idea that spending money on the rich will fix everything is also flawed insofar that they tend to ship jobs overseas to maximise profits. The core problem is that reasonably well paying, low skilled manufacturing jobs are not there to employ the poor, so they have to be supported with hand outs etc. Obviously we are all to blame, we wanna buy the cheap stuff. For instance the local car makers here are struggling to compete against imports, you can buy a new VW golf for round about 20k or a Suzuki for 12k if you really wanna cheap out. Opel (German version of GM) has just entered the Oz market http://www.opel-australia.com.au/vehicles/opel-range.html and Holden are less than happy about this, as they used to sell rebadged Opels. Basically we can blame rampant capitalism for all our problems. Shareholders want big fat dividends and don't care how they are achieved. For example what do you think would happen if the Apple board announced that they intend to move production of their iWhatever back to the States, with a resulting drop in profits due to higher manufacturing costs? More than likely they would get the sack for fiscal irresponsibility. They can bleat on long as they like about made in America and jobs for Americans but will it wash with the shareholders? Quite the link. :) I have issue with step 5. The solder should not be applied next to the iron. The heat of the iron will draw the solder, so to get full penetration, the solder should be applied to the side opposite the heat. Standard soldering procedure. It still is largely dependent on the shear strength of the solder for mechanical strength. I would not be happy about trusting this type of splice under my car. No mention was made of bedding the brakes in? Recently put some ATE ceramics pads on the rear with new rotors, instructions for bedding in brakes where very specific and lenghty, typical German style. Apparently her definition of quiet and mine aren't the same because when I tried it the right front wheel made an ungodly racket. It'd had a hardened spot on the rotor for some time so I'd already ordered new rotors and pads. Yesterday I installed. Remember a couple weeks ago I asked about replacing the rotor without pulling the hub? A year or two ago I'd done the bearings on the passenger front and the rotor kept falling off as I tried to set the preload. Well yesterday that ^%$@#! rotor wouldn't come off for love nor money. I had to pull the hub and balance it on two 2x4s and beat the hub out of the rotor. On that side the pads fell out of the caliper when I pulled it, neither had any friction material to speak of. On the other side one of the big bolts that holds the caliper on would NOT come off. I resorted to the heat wrench which is hard because the small bolts have a little rubber bellows thing on them, I didn't realize at the time I could take rubber bellows thing off. On that side the pads were fine... I*think* when I did the bearing I got grease on the rotor which created the hardspot and ruined the pads. So it goes. Rusty sent me ceramic pads, I don't remember what brand he said they were but they were in a Textar box. Apparently Akebono doesn't have an application for a 190D. The rotors he sent (I spec'd the cheap PBR ones which I had used on my '83 240D with success) are very nice and thick. They weigh about twice the ones I took off and are marked Made in Germany on the rim. My wife is VERY pleased with the new brakes and much more confident in the car and my abilities. The washing machine made a God awful noise and stopped working and it's your fault. (well she didn't say it was my fault but that tone in the voice...) Hmmnh, grab a beer and have a gander, push buttons and such, water goes in, water goes out but no turny of the round thingy in the middle of the machine. What the., this is a Miele, it is not supposed to break down. Far out, OK the rinse light is flashing, that's not supposed to happen. Googly woggly says that the flashy light means the motor is having a moment, Ok maybe the brushes are not brushing. Motor out and into my leaky workshop, many extensive and complicated tests later the brushes, although worn a bit are serviceable. Back to the drawing board or in this case http://www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=130792start=0 right a problem on the control board, pull the board and find the meter of multiness. Sure enough fuse is kaputt. No worries Jaycar have a pile of stuff. Sales fella has a meltdown when shown the bits that are not biting. Humnh back home with tail between legs to find a winging missus bitching about the state of the local Laundromat. But dear I am doing my best, I plead, nah get that look that makes me feel like a metro sexual who does not own tools or a BBQ. Now under extreme pressure and way to early to take my medicine, I pick up the telling bone and let my fingers do the walking. Aztronics sympathise but do not have the right bits but could cobble something together. Hmmnh I think, looking at my fencing wire and duct tape. I know damn well if I want my coffee and other nice things in the morning I am going to have to get this German clothes cleaner going sooner rather than later. Some of the people in the above mentioned forum reckon that http://au.element14.com/ is the go for bits, hey I know how to shop online but how long will this take? Well they have the right erzatsteile and promise lightening quick postage. So I take the plunge and 30 bucks later including shipping (I ordered two relays and they only sell the fuses in 10, so I have spares now) the deed is done. Proudly announce to the missus that parts are on order and everything is under control (this should buy me some time before she gets the poo poos and calls the bloke in the red van (which I believe is a MB http://www.miele.com.au/au/domestic/service/customersupport.htm )). Anyway next morning I log into my element14 (sounds kinda creepy) account to check where my stuff is, get this: Your order has been received. Your order has been assigned an order number and is currently being processed. Your order has been fulfilled. Your order is being processed. Your order has been partially shipped. Your order had been cancelled. Your order is on hold. What the flying truck, order cancelled? order on hold??? But they promised that they have the stuff ready for shipping. Now I have to be very careful and not show any signs of panic, as the lady of the house is keeping a close eye on progress. Should I ring them? Well anyway by the time I start to think about reaching for the blower, a fella arrives on the doorstep, after much announcing by my feral Jack Russels, I manage to squeeze out the door and grab my bag of goodies. Not bad, delivery in less than 24 hours, they must have got training from MB spares. So now I can show the boss the wee little bits that will make the overworked Miele healthy again. Grab the stick with the hot end and set myself up in the warmth of the dining room, to weave my magic. The fuse was easy but the 8 prong relay gave a hell of a fight but lost eventually. Stick the new relay on and rush into the laundry to fit the board, turn on the machine and proudly announce that it's fixed and I am a God that must be worshipped, hang on something is not right, OMFG I soldered the relay on the wrong side of the board, so much for quality control. Quietly sneek back to the soldering iron and pretending this is normal, remove relay, turn board over and with a hiss of hot metal on cold solder show that fn relay who the boss is. Right O now it's God time and you just never know the missus may be very appreciative that she does not have to go back to the hell that is the Laundromat. Turn the knob, push the button, stand back expecting the drum to turn, yeah right you false idol, the rinse light is telling me that I am not a God but a mere mortal who must face trials in order to be granted entry into the kingdom of the one true God. Holding back the tears I pull the board from the machine and drag my sorry behind back to the table, hmmnh fuse is blown again, this can happen if the relay is not replaced but I replaced it. Test the relay with a 9v

Re: [MBZ] occupying the deadly 3rd row.
So you are saying that MB (and Volvo) engineered a death trap? Well I am pretty sure when MB decided to build the S123 and thought it would be handy to put a couple of extra seats in the back, that they envisaged the possibility that the car could be involved in a rear end collision. They may even have done a few crash tests to determine what would happen to the rear compartment in the event of a crash. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5mIYDod-lkNR=1 Also the fuel tank is designed to drop down but not hit the road. The question is what is safer, having kids sit on laps without seat belts or sit in the third row seat? In regards to two trucks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrtOMLHx7cc Hendrik who owns a death trap On 20/08/12 13:04, relng...@aol.com wrote: So then, what would happen to them in case of a rear end collision is of no concern. Huh? Of course what happens to them in a rear-end collision is of concern. But why limit the discussion to only that one kind? What would happen to them in a T-bone accident? I suspect they would be better off in the third seat. Or a head-on? I'm sure they would be safer in the rear-facing seat. What about Rollover? Rear-quarter? Front quarter? Space shuttle pieces landing on top? Underwater? So I guess I need to decide which type of collision I am going to encounter and then choose the appropriate vehicle. In a rear end collision in that vehicle the rear hatch is likely to be crushed forward into the very area occupied by those 3rd seat occupants and they would be trapped until the crushed metal was removed. Or how they would escape in case of fire? See previous answe.r My suburban carries a large quantity of gasoline. My wagon carries diesel. Therefore the danger from fire is _less_ in the car with the rear-facing seats. Why bring up your truck? Was this a comparison with it? Not by me. So what fire are you referring to? Where? Caused by what? Burning what? And why is the rear hatch not opening? Because the rear of the car will be crushed. And isn't the fuel tank aft of the axle under that seat? What is the scenario where you feel a rear-facing 3rd seat is a greater danger than a forward facing 3rd seat with regard to a fire? Previously answered. My argument is that the 3rd row's hazards outweigh any convenience and it wouldn't make any difference which way it faced. About ten years ago near here on I-405 one of those longbody Econoline passenger vans with four rows was caught in a sandwich crash between two semis and caught fire. However if you want to watch your, ahhm, 'romantic movies' in HD you'll want a flat panel. I agree they have a niche market. It's a great place for the people who don't like the negotiation part of the deal. They want to find a car and buy it. I hate some dealer's tactics. I have sued dealerships for those things and I have defended dealerships for similar things. Carmax is for those people that don't want any of that. I am not suggesting it's a bad business. I am suggesting that for me, Carmax represents a bad deal. My friend ended up finding exactly what she wanted at the local Nissan Dealer. She paid $2000 less for a practically identical car. In fact, the one she bought was local, had lower miles and she didn't have to pay $350 to have one shipped . Donald H. Well to be fair I would think Rogers car is cleaner. However I could live with that big fat all wheel drive beast but those things cost a bomb over here. What's the turning circle like on those? Bad luck Roger, you'd think that there would be an age restriction or different classes. PGA something or other. I have some disused tickees so decided to go over this morning to see what all the fuss is about. MBUSA is a big sponsor of the games. The parking area has free parking for MBs, so I rolled in there right past the gate and the $20 (!!!) toll collector, got directed to the MB parking area right next to the bus stop. The 84 SD looked pretty good amongst all the newer iron, though for some reason there was a Suburban parked next to me and then a Jaguar X pulled up. hmmm. And I saw this motorcycle, might have been a BMW, parked next to an ML. Now the parking area is out in old tomato fields, and it has been raining, and rained this morning more, so I was thinking that motorcycle next to that ML was gonna push that kickstand right down into the muck and end up a bookend on the ML... There were actually not that many Benzes in the MB area though, kinda interesting, one E63 was there, in black, looked nice. Today was just a practice day, the main festivities are Th on, so maybe there will be more. At the golf park they had a big MB tent set up with about 6 or 7 cars in there, including this one that looked a lot like a CLS but more curvy, it was called a Styling Something, had a 4cyl engine and some kind of hybrid thing I think. The description was a bit vague.. It was kinda weird, the interior had this floor kinda built across it just below the bottom of the windows so you could not see the whole interior. There was only one demo babe in there, and she was not really a demo dolly, looked more like some college girl volunteering in the space. One would think they would be targeting the golf geezers, some hot demo dollies would be the order of the day. Maybe some tall German blondes in tight leather outfits encouraging you to buy one... oops, where was I? Oh yeah... They also had this laptop with a vidcam set up you could make a video they would turn into a little flip book. I did not do that, though the little flip book was kinda neat but doing a stupid human trick to make it was kinda weird. There was a racing helmet and some golf clubs you could do something with. They had two mini-golf setups in there where you could get your putter analyzed. Or maybe it was putting. Whatever, I don't know much about golf. It was two guys doing the analyzing, I did not want them around my putter so did not avail myself of that function. Had they been hot babes, maybe... The MB aspect was kinda lame, though they did have a C63 in there, all tarted up in some sort of racing look, with some stickers and such. It looked pretty stock though, so not sure what that was about. No S class, no diesels. OK back to workies... --R ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
