You can download the Win10 ISO from Microsoft. Your Product ID Key for
10 if on M/$ servers if you

have to reinstall.
10 installs the same version i.e. 32 or 64 bit as the Original install
of Windoze.

With Win7 there are two different disks but one serial number.
Once you've gone to 10 you can delete it and go again with the
correct installer.

I got winders 10 put on a dell box about 4 hours before the cutoff. It
is a C2D box (64 bit) and I noticed the install of 10 is listed as 32
bit.

Did it install as 32 bit because the prior install was 32 bit winders
7? It was a xp machine, so I did a clean install of lose 7 before I
could do the "free" "upgrade" to 10.

Tonight I was trying to upgrade firmware on a network device, which
required a download of a fairly large .tgz file. After I failed a couple
times, I decided to verify the download integrity against the SHA256
hash.

How do dat in winders I can hear you Linux guys laughing now...

I searched about a bit, discovered CertUtil tool, accessible via the CMD
CLI, and had the job done lickety split. Downloaded file integrity was
just fine...

Next I chatted with the tech support folks for the device and "Juan"
(who's

third-party crapware that I had installed years ago, once I had

If your fridge is working Ok you can buy a counter top ice maker. Sam's
has them, a friend bought on of the 10# models.
Works great but the storage bin is on the small side. Or do like my
uncle and the last base I worked at and go to a restaurant
supply house and see if they have a used commercial ice maker for sale.
One of our mechs found one at a restaurant that
was going out of business. We all chipped in and bought it for 150
bucks. Was nice to be able to fill up an ice chest to keep
the fish I caught cold on my 2 1/2 trip home with out going ans paying
Achmed an exorbitant price for a bag of ice.

Commercial ice makers sell for $1800 and up new.

Our current refrigerator is a Whirlpool side by side stainless. With
these side by sides there never seems to be enough room. Also, the

jug that I use when working outside on car lots. If I end up having to
work outside more than 1 day in a row the ice maker will not fill back
up by the next morning between using all of the ice in the morning and
whatever is used in the house during the day. Usually by the time I
get home in the afternoon it has filled about half way back up, then
we use ice in the evening using most of what was made, then in the
morning it is filled about half way back up again. After a couple of
days I really do not have enough ice to fill up my jug. So this leads
me to start looking at these new french door refrigerators with the
slide out freezer in the bottom. I am most interested in one that has
dual ice makers, they have one in the door and one in the bottom
freezer. We do not use bulk ice that often but when we need it, it
would be great to have it. In my little bit of research I am tending
to lean toward Samsung or LG. The Whirlpool/Maytag/GE seems like they
are way more expensive than what you can get from LG/Samsung. Anybody
have any refrigerator experience they would like to share? Online
reviews seem to be no help really. Any website I find seems to be an
advertisement for 1 brand or the other. Also, Lowes seems to be
having a massive sale that lasts a few more days.

Re: [MBZ] 124 fuel tank

2016-04-24 Thread Russ Williams via Mercedes

I've seen a tank with the same crud at my buddy's MB Indy shop.
Owner did the same thing, unfiltered WFO.
They pulled the tank dumped the cruddy fuel out. Put a cup of Dawn Dish
washing liquid in it then
rolled the tank to distribute the dawn let set for an hour and then used
a steam cleaner to wash the tank
out. Drained it then flushed it with a pressure washer 3 times. Let it
dry out in the sun then they used
a tank sealer the MB recommends. Don't ask me what the brand or name was
I've slept a bunch since then.

You may try using vinegar to dissolve the gunk.

On Sun,4/24/16 13:02, Curly McLain via Mercedes wrote:
So the FL kid had filled the tank with used fry oil, probably without
filtering. The car ran, i put about 5 gal of Diesel in twice and was
thinking maybe the worst was over but figured I'd need to change
filters a couple times. The filler cap and neck were awful, filled
with rust and krud. leaving high FFA oil sit in a steel tank is not
good.

Yesterday #1 daughter took off in it so I could work on the front end
of the other 300D. The filter plugged up and she returned, and too
off in the heap. I am now without working wheels.

I changed the filter. I still can't get it to run on its own. (half
firing) Still short on fuel. The filter only drained out a
tablespoon or two of oil. Very plugged up. I probably weighed 5-6
times what the new filter weighed.

SO I drained the tank and took it out. Is is coated with a yellowish
crud. It is somewhat like a really bad case of the black death crud,
but not black.

I thought about getting a tank coating, but that won't stick to the krud.

Has anyone ever seen this krud? Is there any way to clean it out? I
had planned to pressure wash the tank, but I won't be able to clean
all of it with a regular pressure washer.

I am guessing the only clear path is to get a used clean tank, but
that will take a few days. Getting a coating will probably take a few
days also.

What's the collective experience?

There were 4 of us that got to do the flights with the Robinson guys.
After each of us getting 5 + hours in the Demo A/C we all came to the

First, "still within easy driving distance" is not going to happen in the

DFW area. Second, no Okie would willingly move to texas. Third, that 4-5
hour drive to/from the ranchito will get old fast. You'll need to budget
for that PPL and an airplane - cuts the travel time down to 2½ hours. Just
move close to (if not on) an airport/airpark. Of course, then you'd trade
the MB habit for an aircraft one (more expensive).

still have a lot of cars and parts I would take. I'm not in a good position

Would have to sell the other house that I have equity in to put down on a
new house if we did and pay closing costs on selling this house. It would
be a logistical nightmare I think. At least Dallas is within driving back
and forth distance moving stuff as opposed to the west coast or florida.

Best bet is to ask them.

I was at the pick a part today and came across a car I used to own. This is a prime example of stupidity. So I sold this to a friend of mine who drove it for a while then he sold it to a coworker of his a while back. This is a 96 e300 diesel. A couple of months ago my friend said she was wanting to get rid of it. Anyway it turned up at the junk yard. It had auction stickers on it as well as a dealer stock tag, which turned out to be one of my customers. If I had noticed it in their inventory I could have picked it up cheap. So this was a perfectly good car, she traded it in and the dealer sent it to auction. LKQ bought it there. So apparently they buy perfectly fine running cars at the auction to part out. Sad. The car appears to have just arrived and only had the condenser removed. I spend a couple of hours there stripping off anything of value. I ended up spending about $200 which was probably $800 or more worth of parts on eBay. Here is my question, has anybody pulled an engine

fore at one of these places? Knowing the car I really want to go back for the
engine before somebody starts hacking away at it. I see they have a frames out
there but I am unsure about pulling one on site. If just hacking lines and
cables should come out pretty quick I guess, just worried about the logistics
of actually doing the pulling and getting it out of there.

Re: [MBZ] Nother OT TV question (signal)

2014-12-07 Thread Russ Williams via Mercedes
Cable company here (Cox) and AT&T U-verse around here puts a filter on
the the line that runs into the house if you
don't subscribe to TV service. This is supposed to block the TV signal.
I have two friends that have Cox internet and
no tv service. One gets Basic TV thru his the other gets most of the
expanded basic channels on his. The one business

client that I have that has U-Verse can't get any tv channels.
My advice is to take the coax that goes to your modem and hook it up to
a tv set and see if you get any stations.
This will save you the trouble of cutting the inbound cable ans doing
all the wiring and find out that the tv signal is blocked.
BTW don't get the bright idea of going into the de-mark box and removing
the filter unless up want to pay a healthy fine

from the cable company for theft of services.

On Sun,12/7/14 12:06, Curly McLain via Mercedes wrote:

I have internet from the cable company, but no cable tv. Since the
cable company can run tv and internet over the same cable in the
house, is there a way I can take a coax from the antenna, and put that
in the coax with the internet?

I assume this would be in the cable junction box attached to the
outside of the house or after the coax comes out of the junction box.

If this can be done, it would simplify trying to get a second TV running.

The new tv is running on a coax that I ran directly to the tv from the
antenna. There is a cable coax and the antenna coax at that tv, so
that might be a place to connect the two without adding another
coathanger antenna.

I am planning to put a coathanger antenna outside to run the second
tv, but I think it is possible to add an amplifier to the coax from
the existing attic antenna and then feed the whole cable system.

We installed coax over the whole house in 2001 (along with a lot of
cat 5 so ethernet is available almost anywhere in the house.)

I have tried running multiple coax from one MAKE.com antenna, but that
does not work. I assume that if a signal amp was added at the first
coax joint, then it may be possible to run multiple tv sets from one
MAKE coathanger antenna.

Re: [MBZ] Dodge V6 diesel

2014-09-01 Thread Russ Williams via Mercedes
Went to the local market yesterday. Pulled into parking space next to a
1500 EcoDiesel. Went did did my shopping.
when I returned to mu car the owner of the Dodge was loading up his
groceries. We had a 20 min chat about the truck.
He's had his for 3 months. Just filled it up and he says he gets 25~26
mpg mixed driving 22~23 city only. Two weeks ago he went
from Baton Rouge to Jeff City, Mizzery. Averaged 31~32 on the road with
it. He was well pleased with the performance and
the power the little diesel had. I asked him if he had to do over again
if he would buy it or another brand with a gasser.

His answer was Hell Yes I'd buy it again in a heart beat.

On Mon,9/1/14 20:49, Curt Raymond via Mercedes wrote:

Got a chance to drive a Dodge 1500 "eco diesel" yesterday at our local Dodge
dealership.
This is definitely not a 24 valve Cummins. Much more Mercedes like engine which
isn't a big surprise as its European.
We also drove a 5.7l Hemi V8 which gave a nice comparison. For just driving
around they make similar power. The gas engine actually makes MORE noise,
they've obviously worked very hard to make the diesel very quiet. Looking at
the engine its small, it looks like the V6 in my Ranger.

Power-wise for acceleration they're similar which makes sense when you look at
the numbers, I suspect if you're moving a lot of weight on a regular basis the
diesel would do it for much less fuel. The gasser is supposed to average 15mpg,
the diesel is rated for 22. For comparison my '03 Ranger only 15... The diesel
is supposed to do 27mpg on the highway. I usually beat EPA expectations so I
bet 30 won't be that hard to get.

The truck is nice, has a dial for gear selection although our gasser model was
stripped down and had a conventional column shifter. Dodge only does 4 door
extended cabs, not an access cab like the Ford we had tried but the two trucks
we drove had shorter rear doors. One feature I really liked on the Dodge was
the mirrors flip up for towing. Both that we tried had satellite radio which I
hate paying extra for since I probably won't pay the subscription.

If I were going to buy one for me, considering my truck needs I'd buy the
gasser. If I had a business or a farm where towing or hauling loads was normal
but we didn't need a 2500 I'd buy the diesel.

Re: [MBZ] 1990 Mercedes 300E Battery Question

2014-05-23 Thread Russ Williams

What does CCA mean?
Cold Cranking Amps is a rating used in the battery industry to define a
battery's ability to start an engine in cold temperatures. The rating is
the number of amps a new, fully charged battery can deliver at 0°
Farenheit for 30 seconds, while maintaining a voltage of at least 7.2
volts, for a 12 volt battery. The higher the CCA rating, the greater the
starting power of the battery.

What are MCA or CA rates?
This is a rating used to describe the discharge load in amperes which a
new, fully charged battery at 32 degrees F (0C), can continuously
deliver for 30 seconds and maintain a terminal voltage equal or greater
than 1.2 volts per cell. It is sometimes referred to as Marine Cranking
Amps or Cranking Amps.

WILTON wrote:

CCA? Cold Cranking Amps?

Yes.
CCA is measured at 0°F
CA is measured at 0°C (cranking amps)

A 1000 CA battery is probably around 750-850 CCA.

tank clean of algae, cleans injectors and pump, and provides lubrication. I
also never have to do "Italian tuneups" and put undue strain on my drive
train just to witness some black smoke. It's available at any mcparts store
and is not expensive. My Indie has never needed to perform a "diesel purge"

instant MPG, cumulative MPG, spark, timing, oil pressure, amperage,

You can run a wire from the terminal and velcro it to your dashboard

There are a couple of manufacturers ,and the best rated one for
bang/buck runs about $70. Very cool toy. Will work on any 96 or

[MBZ] Seafire XV Restoration

2014-01-23 Thread Russ Williams

**

For those of you that love to fly and even more for the pilots.

While Sarah Hill was taping the first Central Missouri Honor Flight
special in the Ozark Hangar at Columbia Regional Airport in January
2009, she noticed Jim Cooper working on a plane in the corner of the
hangar. I love airplanes and this sight piqued my interest.

The corner was enclosed by plastic from floor to ceiling and inside sat
a plane, wings folded toward the ceiling and a paint job that left more
to be desired. It was the Seafire XV - one of only a handful still in
existence. As soon as I saw the plane and learned a few facts about it,
I knew I wanted to do a story on it and follow Cooper through the rest
of the restoration process.

Cooper had already been working on the Seafire for nearly a year and
half by the time we met, but there was still plenty of work that had to
be done. I started shooting that night and throughout the next year and
half, whenever Cooper would move to a different stage in the
restoration, he'd call and I would head to the hangar to shoot video. I
didn't shoot every part of the process, but tried to capture the big
ones~cleaning the plane, painting, revealing the paint job, testing the
landing gear, testing the engine and of course the first flight.

After 10 trips to the airport, 130 miles and nearly 6 hours of video, it
was time to start the editing process. Once all the video was in the
system, I spent 14 hours typing the details from of every sound and
interview captured in the video. That log was essential in writing the
story. I needed to know exactly what was said in order to organize
everything into a story that would hopefully hold people's interest.
After I had a rough script written, I began to edit the video. After
about 15 hours in the edit bay tweaking every little audio and video
cut, then re-tweaking them,I was finally finished. Nineteen months
later. It was a tough job picking the best four
minutes from six hours of video, but in the end, I think I accomplished
what I set out to do."

Shows the workmanship involved in a vintage plane restoration. The guy's
other hobby is restoring and building from scratch wooden musical
instruments.

Lots of work here...

Wouldn't this be a marvel to fly?

The four wires that plug in next to the CPU go to a socket labeled ATX-CPU.

So, I guess I just need a PSU with 24 pins for the MB and 20A on the 12V

Yup, that's what you need.

Mine has 24 pins to the motherboard, and the new graphics card (Geforce
GT630) does not have a separate power connector - it seems to expect 20A
through the PCI-x connector!

Do you really mean PCI-X or do you mean PCIe? They are NOT the same.
See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI-X . PCI-X was typically used on
server motherboards and is now hard to find daughterboards for. The
latest, and used on consumer motherboards, is PCIe.

Looking at http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=513&card2=674 ,
comparing the graphics card I have with something close to yours, shows
that you really mean PCIe.

It seems, then, you need a power supply with a 24 or 20+4 pin connector
that also has a separate PCIe connector for your graphics card.

We have some standard 1 pound loaf pans that got passed down from my

grandmother (which means they date from the 1920s, I suspect).
Perfect loaf of bread size as one must use homemade bread fairly
quickly else it molds.

Use real bread flour -- King Arthur is about the best I've found
around here. Most grocery store flour is way too weak for good bread.

My favorite way of making bread involves mixing most of the flour, the
yeast, shortening, and liquid into a stiff mix and letting it sit for
half an hour or so, then adding enough flour to get the right
consistency for bread, then knead with the KitchenAid until ready.
You can knead by hand if you have the time and strength, but that
KitchenAid is great.

If you want whole wheat, rye, or something like that, mix the non-
wheat or whole wheat flour into the mix first, they all work better if
they have more time to absorb water before kneading.

Let it rise a while, form into loaves, toss into the pans, let rise a
bit, then bake.

Best thing going, homemade bread!

front of the engine and holds the upper radiator hose in place. It was
apparently plastic and snapped into the aluminum housing where he oil filter
goes. In it's place there is a plastic wire tie holding it to the housing.

Does anyone have a good suggestion for a service manual or parts diagram. If
not just the part number for the clamp would be helpful.

When I started driving used Mercedes over 30 years ago a mechanic, knowing I
was passionate about Mercedes, told me do a small project every week and
always use OEM parts. I have taken his advice to this day. The clamp is my
project this week!

"anymore."
No more hugs, no more special moments to celebrate together, no more phone calls just to
chat, no more "just one minute."
Sometimes, what we care about the most gets all used up and goes away, never to return
before we can say goodbye, or say "I love you."
So while we have it, its best we love it, care for it, fix it when it's broken
and heal it when it's sick.
This is true for marriage. And old cars, and children with bad report cards,
and dogs with bad hips, and aging parents and grandparents. We keep them
because they are worth it, because we are worth it.
Some things we keep -- like a best friend who moved away or a son in law after
divorce. There are just some things that make us happy, no matter what.
Life is important, like people we know who are special. And so, we keep them
close!
Suppose one morning you never wake up, do all your friends know how you really
feel? The important thing is to let every one of your friends know your true
feelings, even if you think they don't love you back.
So, just in case I'm gone tomorrow, please rest assured I voted against that

The FAQ may be right BUT I've done 100's of disinfection's with it and
found running it in

Safe Mode first then in Normal mode gets the job done better.
If you got infected with Malware don't blame your Anti Virus program
they aren't programed
to remove them Most do an excellent job of stopping viruses, BTW
Micro$ofts rating from
Excellent in Oct to Poor in Nov and hasn't been recommended since then.
This comes from AV-Test.org.

2013-01-26 Thread Russ Williams
I have a PPK-S .380 that I bought in new 1970 for $119.00 to replace the
one
I got off a Chi-Com Lt in VN. Was stolen out of my unaccompanied
baggage. Perp even stole

the Paperwork and the Engraved Shoulder holster that was in the sealed box.
I carried the PPK for the 20 years that I was flying for our Sheriff Office.
8 shots in the 10 ring in less than 10 sec @ 25' for monthly qualifying.
Under slow fire
8 shots in a cluster that you can cover with a half dollar @ 25m under 1
min time.

Carried a 10 1/5" barrel Ruger .44 Mag when I worked the roads.
All our road units were equipped with a Ithica 12 ga. Riot gun loaded
with #4 Buckshot.

When you boot up the lappy do you feel any air coming from the exhaust port?
If not then the fan is clog.
I replaced the fan in a HP lappy with the same processor a few weeks ago.
Unit would power up then shut down after a min or two. Out came the
canned air. Blew out the
fan intake ans exhaust. Fired it back up and same problem. Removed the
case and found the exhaust
port has about 3/8 inch of fuzz packed into it, cleaned it out and
tested the fan. It was so clogged up
it would barely turn. Ordered an new one and replaced it and the heat
sink compound on the

processor. Customer very pleased.

You can use HFS (HTTP File Server) to send and receive files.
It's different from classic file sharing because it uses web technology

It also differs from classic web servers because
it's very easy to use and runs "right out-of-the box".

Re: [MBZ] Cooling System Flush

2012-11-26 Thread Russ Williams

Any Flush or Citric Acid Cleaning needs the Special tool.
Not needed for draining but it does help.

That gets rid of all the air, but what spills out is
all water since the coolant hasn't really mixed yet.

Where does the special tool, aka thermostat modified with shell casing,
come into it?

I was thinking you'd need the special tool to ensure that you are
draining/flushing the entire system, not just a part of it, any time you
change coolant. Am I confused?

Re: [MBZ] Cooling System Flush

2012-11-24 Thread Russ Williams
Put it up on ramps. Remove upper radiator hose from radiator. Loosen
same hose at thermostat
housing then rotate hose so end you removed is pointing up. Fill with
mixed coolant until radiator
core is covered. Reattach hose to radiator then top off with coolant.
Start engine and wait until temp '
rises and you get heat from heater. Back off ramps and shut down engine
and check level.

Take for a test drive.
This is the way that the shop my buddy works at does it. They never have
any problems

with air bubbles.

Has your coolant level gone down?

That's what I figured. The coolant level dropped about a quart or less. I
really don't like seeing the temp gauge go over 100. I squeezed the top
radiator hose as I was filling it to try to burp out any air. Know of any other
(more successful) tips?
