Pump controller more than the pump.

A bigger issue is head gasket. It can be done with the engine in the car, but
reaching the back isn't great. Removing broken off head bolts from the back is
not so fun. Too much other stuff in the way limiting options.

Above.

Same with 617 turbo. The steering linkage gets in the way of
getting the starter out from below. Air cleaner has to come off.
I don't remember if the battery tray has to be removed.

With a 616, it's pretty easy. I think the top starter bolt is

Yup. And the main jet is _under_ the throttle lever so when it is actually at

As I understand, here are (at least) two parts to 5G. The mm wave
that is very short range - but also 600 MHz. T-mobile got a big
chunk of the formerly TV spectrum from 614-698 MHz. And they have
been investing and building in rural areas with these
frequencies. So T-Mobile coverage from 2 years could be quite
different than now.

Jim was having what appeared to be light pollution problems, so I

I actually set up my sensors, but I had some short people running

Use a virtual machine (like VirtualBox) guest. Run it only when
you need iTunes. As far as iTunes/apple is concerned, it is the
only software installed on the computer. And it's easy to
"unplug" the ethernet that connects to the web but you can still

The other reason is smoother torque. Because as the one side
nears the end of the stroke (0 or 180 deg) where the torque is
less, the other side is nearing max torque (90 or 270 deg) net
result is fairly smooth torque even at low rpm.

Why not keep it as a virtual machine? It is very easy to copy,
move to new hardware, keep special software running on old
operating systems, etc. Especially since from what I remember
STAR is picky. If it's happy in a VM - leave it there!

> I can’t get the VM to recognize the USB connected drive as a

Virtualbox or VMWare? I haven't used VMWare in more than a decade.

Virtualbox can mount external harddrives via USB. But the recent
open source versions of virtualbox need "extensions" to allow
USB. Those are separate pieces due to licensing. I only run
Virtualbox host on Linux, so I can't comment on what is included
on a Mac on MSWin install.

Might that be your problem?

I still recommend keeping it as a virtual machine and not turning
it into hardware. But maybe I'm not understanding what you are
really trying to do.

I have filled pits many times. Clean with Hydrocloric (muriatic)
acid, then use JBWeld (slow, not fast cure) and work it into all
the pits making sure that all the low spots are filled. To tall
can be removed later.

I save the stick and mixing "plate" to monitor the cure without
disturbing the real repair. I like using flat sections of clear
plastic packaging as the mixing plate. Once the JBWeld is set
firm, but ideally before it is fully cured is when I like to use a
knife to remove the major extras. Once fully cured, I use a file
and/or sandpaper to make it smooth.

Well, they might be, but it's a risky gamble

My first thought was "Jet? Electric? Huh???" Ducted fan - yes.
Jet - I don't see how it could possibly be.

By strict definition, a jet's thrust is from jet propulsion. I am
not aware of any method of using electricity to generate jet
propulsion.

That said, most subsonic "jet" aircraft engines are turbofans and
generate most of their thrust from the bypass fans driven by a
turbine rather than from jet propulsion - thus making it more of a
ducted fan than a jet.

For supersonic flight, a jet is more effective. And generally a
fighter is required to achieve speeds greater than Mach 2.

And that's just the engine - ignoring the problem of batteries,
weight, and refueling.

Maybe. What I was reading showed I could have the VPN from my
router so all the traffic from my LAN could be through the VPN.
That is one device with VPN, but any number of devices on the
LAN. But it is also only one VPN link opened.

That could easily be worked around if a tunnel, or VPN was setup
between my house and your house. Then my internet traffic could
be set to go into your house, then out through the
privacy/anonymous VPN service we are sharing the cost of. My
outbound traffic would show up for you as both download (my house
to your house) and upload (your house to internet). The reverse
for my downloads - they would all pass through both your download
and upload.

Nop.

TOR (The Onion Router) is in no way related to TorGuard VPN.

The "Tor" in TorGuard apparently reference "Torrent".

TOR isn't a VPN, though is some ways it is similar. It is no
cost, open source, de-centralized privacy network. No promises
about fast, completely uncertain where your packets will exit into
the clear internet. This means in won't necessarily help if
someone wants to use Tic Tok (hacker pipeline to chi co m) on a
network where it is blocked. It might, but no certainty like is
possible with a VPN.

As others have said, rarely is anything really free (no cost). If
not money, then information, privacy, or something else is how
payment is made.

Maybe there should be. Big droplets will quickly drop to the
ground. Most folks recognize that the ground isn't clean and
rarely put their feet or their faces without washing first.

With a mask, those droplets stay on the mask, and can easily get
on hands, and then hands touch other things that are usually
treated less carefully than the floor.

So there _is_ an argument than a mask could make it less safe for

If the master cylinder piston doesn't go ALL the way to the top,
the port where fluid gets in from the reservoir will be covered
and no fluid will ever get in to deal with clutch wear or leaks.

It might take compressing the piston a bit to get it all in there,

Once the lines and cylinders are full of oil, the clutch spring
will help push the master cylinder back to the top.

YES!

That is too far in. It won't bleed - and the master cylinder will
never get fresh fluid from the reservoir. You must have a rod
that is not too long.

That's the problem.

It will ONLY bleed if the master cylinder is ALL THE WAY out. 1/16" depressed
blocked the port on mine.

I will never fill with fluid if that port is covered. Shorten the
rod, either by adjusting the eccentric bolt or by grinding off the
end of the rod.

I think it was TRW brand that I got that I had to grind off the
rod. It came with both a short and a long - and neither was right!

Automatic transmissions are doable. Lots of small parts,

The big commercial Mitsubishi is clever enough to use the heat
from cooling one room to warm another. Can't do that with
separate systems - but maybe the residential won't do that anyway.

And I'll admit there may be less need. A theater building with a
room full of light dimmers and amps gets warm enough to need
cooling even when other rooms might want heat. Less likely to
happen in a house, I would think. Although, the south rooms with
lots of sun could be "cooled" to warm other rooms...

I would plead that you get a solution that will put the info into
the EXIF, IPTC, and or XMP. These are "tags" that stick the
information into the same file as the image itself.

An external database will allow searching the photo's data a lot
faster than having it dig through the tags in the images - but
using the tags is like writing on the back of the photo. Unless
it is removed, that info is stuck with the photo even if you make
copies, share with others, etc. 20 years from now, so long as a
jpeg can still be opened, that info will still be with it. Nearly
all photo tools today honor the tags, unlike even a few years ago.

You made no mention of the OS. I have no suggestions for MSWin or
Mac. Digikam has been the one I find I most recommend. But even
with that one there is a menu setting for "store the info in the
image tags" and it is off by default.

Finally, if you use an on-line photo archive, be respectful of the
privacy of (especially still living) people. Some/many/all of the
online methods will make use of facial recognition and other
processes that might be considered invasive by some people. Once
the information is "out", there is no way to ever get it back "in".

That doesn't even touch on the loss of liberty, intrusion on

Freedom means the individual gets to choose what they think is

If someone feels they are at risk, they can stay home. Or wear a

Depends on the LED driver. There are quite a few different ones.

The Dollar Tree lamps current limiter probably won't cause

Yup. Watt is a Watt.

"Watt equivalent" is [omitted]!

However, if it is a very enclosed fixture, the LED lamp may not be
cooled as well as it expects. Some LEDs are rated for "base down"
applications only and not enclosed, recessed, ceiling mount, base
up applications.

The fixture would be fine - but the 5 W LED might overheat and
fail early.

Usually the LED portion is fine, it's actually the drive circuit
that fails. All too often long before the million hour life
rating of the LEDs.

[strong expletives obscured] "Watt equivalent"

Use Lumens.

Lumen is a measure of the total light output with no regard to
direction or distance to illuminated surface.

"Watt equivalent" is whatever the marketing folks want it to be.
I've seen anything from 450 to 800 L for a 60 "Watt equivalent".

600-700 L is probably about what you expect. And with lumens, it
doesn't matter if the light is from incandescent, halogen, LED,
CFL, fusion, carbon-arc, acetylene gas, or lightning bugs.

> I ended up spending way more than I wanted to between the

If you are willing to support the communists in China, Dollar Tree
has 8 W, 800 L ones. (for $1). I opened up the first one I got
and it uses a simple, rugged, and low-heat current limiter. So I
bought a few more. I _REALLY_ don't like supporting the enemy,
but I also really don't like spending money on poorly designed
lamps.

For the garage, I used to look for at least 1000 L for the 75 W
incandescent lamps I used in there. I'm still looking for a well
built, non-expensive LED with 1000 to 1200 L output.

For either engines without vacuum, or for applications that might
require more than 15 psi for brake boost, GM makes a hydraulic
brake booster. It uses a spring charged accumulator and the power
steering pump to store a whole lot of force to assist with brake
application.

The light duty suburban and pickups might have had vacuum brake
boosters driven by the mechanical vacuum pump, but the 3/4 ton and
larger diesels, and more than 1 ton gasoline I think all got
hydroboost. At least through the 1990s.

It's a good system. Simple, rugged, reliable, and the driver will
know there is a loss of hydraulic pressure because the steering
will be effected.

Maybe the fact that brakes and steering both change if pressure is
lost could be considered poor design...

Those are not N95 rated masks to protect the one wearing it.
Rather, they do NOT seal against the wearers face and are there to
protect the people FROM the wearer.

The surgical style mask will do effectively nothing to protect the

Masks aren't all equal! Just grouping all mask together is as
silly as grouping all PPE together. Safety glasses are
ineffective against loud noises. Steel toed shoes won't keep skin
on your fingers. Surgical style and nearly all home-made mask
won't keep the virus out. A good particulate filter will have an
exhaust port doesn't do much to protect others but will protect
the wearer.

So shifting back and forth between types of mask make me really
question the value of the rest of the data.

Total cases infected or rate of infection? Big difference. And
mathematical models can model almost anything the modeler wants to
show based on the "assumptions" that are inherent in ALL
algorithms.

There are documented studies on all sides of the argument. Does
that mean civil liberties don't matter? That the constitution is
suspended? That the government can ignore it's contract to the
people to whom it's a servant?

With the synchromesh it's easy. The shifter won't move into the
next gate until the speeds match. Just apply a bit of pressure
until it moves, then snap it into gear.

> I learned this way back when - the clutch cable in my 1951 VW

Without synchromesh, the shifts can be faster because the matching
speed can be anticipated just a bit. But it's also a lot easier
to miss and make a lot of noise. "Just lightening the truck a bit
by taking some metal off the gears."

With 7 (rare) 9, 10, 13, 15, or 18 speed transmissions there is
lots of opportunity to practice.

Truck driver call this clutch-less shifting "floating" and many,
many of them do it. Most truck still use manual transmissions
without synchromsh - but that is changing...

I have always used a pump to put fluid in at the slave.

It will work ONLY if the clutch master cylinder is ALL the way to

I question the "pullout" strength.

Solder is not especially strong and it has long been understood
that it is poor practice to depend on solder for mechanical
strength in a joint.

Ah - but it has adhesive! The adhesive is on the tube.
Polyolefin tube will stretch when cold. Then shrink when hot.
Thus "heatstrink tubing"

And soldering is less durable in a high stress and vibration
environment than a crimp.

It should be fairly waterproof though.

I would be inclined to use gooey on the inside heatshrink
tubing over ordinary crimp butt splices. Or wheel bearing grease
and ordinary shrink tubing.

But for a lipid virus, it doesn't matter because full sunlight
doesn't provide "strong" enough UV to inactivate it.

The heat will hasten it's demise.

And the UV that does get through might be effective against other
stuff.

Yes, UV will get through, but greatly reduced.

The intensity of full sunlight is insufficient to deactivate a
lipid virus, so the UV exposure will do nothing for the Wuhan
flu. However, the elevated temperature will definitely decrease
the time for the virus to deactivate.

The UV exposure may be enough for bacteria or fungus - I don't
know.

Err, BTU content of bunker fuel is high. Higher than diesel.

Though there are two ways of measuring - energy/volume or
energy/mass. Bunker C rates quite high on energy/volume as it is
dense. Propane rates much higher on energy/mass.

Don't wait too long if it leaks. The tree will send a lot of

Use an ax. Replace that whole section with Sch 80 pipe. Put the
pipes in sand, and add zig-zags to allow pipe stretch. That
should gain you a few years.

Close proximity to a tree is NOT what you want if long service is
a goal.

> Anyone else have an idea?

It appears to me that _anything_ you do there would be short term
- 5 year max - as the tree and roots will tear up anything you
do. Repairing the leak that's there will probably only last until
it is stretched more. Like this summer.

Get to that zone another way, or kill the tree and put in new
lines - or don't irrigate that zone.

I think the tree will win no matter what you do unless you get at
least 15 - 20 ft away.

Yes. But if it drops below 10 VDC it could be either a starter
drawing too much OR a weak battery.Measure the voltage drop

A bad starter and a bad battery can act much the same if "turn the

Sure is possible.

> Starter might be going bad?

Also possible.

>... I want to check anything else first, and avoid EMdW if
> possible.

A voltmeter may be all that's needed.

#1 Battery (ideal, post to post) voltage at rest.
   (13.6-14.2 is normal)

#2 Battery voltage under load. Starter is good. But also a high
load of somewhat known size. Headlights can work. (if it's
less than 9, either the battery lacks capacity or the current
   draw is really high)

#3 Voltage between engine block and battery "neg".
(more than 1 VDC indicates there is probably a problem - likely
   bad connections)

#4 Voltage between starter motor and battery "pos"
(More than a couple volts suggest a starter that is drawing too
   much)

#5 Optional - voltage between starter terminal and engine block.
(This really ought to be batter voltage under load minus the
drop of the starter wire as measured in test #4)

It is okay to use a long, thin wire to extend a terminal to the
meter for one that is out of reach - like the starter.

What can really help diagnosis is to have all those readings for a
system that works good. But even without that, these should be
able to narrow it down to likely culprits.

I don't have a scale, but from what I understand, mass measure is
SO much more accurate and repeatable than volume measure -
especially for flour.

Whole grains can have just as much. But the source has to be a
high gluten wheat berry! Hard white wheat is my preference for
bread.

Rye has almost no gluten. So if the rye is a significant portion
of your flour even a really high gluten wheat may not be enough.
So then adding gluten makes sense.

Exhaust will be different. And I don't know what Euro '85
cars have compared to USA, but the USA of that year have a number
of "advancements" that I don't like. KLIMA relay, extra vacuum
thingies, and other stuff only used that year on OM617 motors.

If I were to mess with it I would find a pre '85 doner car and if
necessary "down-convert" to something earlier.

70% is preferred. Quite effective against lipid virus. So find
(or distill) some 140 proof and there you go!
