9sp.

A far cry from the old 45mph Grumman LLV.

Is $575k to 757k in 5 years just keeping up with inflation?

Swing and a miss, Ralph.
By the time your book hit the stores in 1965, the Corvairs on the dealer
lots had proper IRS, and the only thing wrong with them was weight of
the six cylinder engine hanging off the back of the transaxle like a
Porsche 911.

That's something I didn't realize before today.
Chevy fixed the car in the model year changeover in late 1964, and
Ralph's book came out in 1965.

If FMV is clearly more than policy limits, keep the car and accept a
check for the policy limit.
Then prepare to give a frame shop $500-1000 to put it on the rack and
stretch it back into place. The rest is just parts swapping. (this is
assuming the passenger cabin is straight and the doors still fit
perfectly, and there's no drivetrain damage)

Re: [MBZ] OT - How to Get a Network Connection in the Detached Garage

2024-05-08 Thread mitch--- via Mercedes
BTW, Midwest Energy and Communications buried fiber in my neighborhood
this week and it appears they finished this afternoon.

I thought the stake layout meant the trunk line was crossing the road at
my east property line and running across my yard to the west, but it
turned out they buried the main fiber on the farm across the road, then
bored under the road today and buried a junction box near my east line.
And while the stake was on the line, the installers moved it a few feet
east so they never touched my property. Which is good, because they had
a bit of a problem and sprayed a substantial quantity of hydraulic oil
on the grass. I don't think Mustang is a premium brand for excavators.

I still question how they can even run the stuff with no notice to the
landowners and no easements. ATT and Consumers Energy have easements
here, and the county has a 33' right of way. I'm guessing that the
county sold them an easement on the right of way, but I don't see how
that's legal.

The woman behind me (house 800' from the road, my yard is 525' deep)
said that they'd hook up for $100 if you signed up in advance (they
still haven't contacted me to this day) and it would have been
$1500-2000 to hook up if she did it later. She's the only one who cares,
she's got everything up to and including her vacuum connected to 10mbs
DSL and says all her devices are laggy. I get along just fine with
either DSL or 4G cellular but all I do is read email, browse web pages,
and watch the occasional youtube.

I was saving Curt's message to reply to.

In 2012, when GM had one EV (the EV-1 doesn't count, none were made in
this century and none were ever sold), Volt was a good enough name.

Almost simultaneously dropping the Volt and introducing the Bolt made
things confusing, Curt would argue stupidly confusing and I can't
dispute him.

I knew a Bolt was more powerful, heavier and faster than a Spark, with
enough range to handle even my winter highway commute with single point
charging. I didn't realize how small it was for a car that heavy until
the day I actually parked next to one at Meijer.
For some reason the pictures had me thinking it was a 3/4 scale "mini"
van. But it's not in the same ballpark, or even the same planet, as a
Grand Caravan.

If I were in the market I might consider a $10k Bolt with a 95% battery.

I wanted to like the Volt, but it's always been heavier, slower and more
expensive than a Cruze and it shares the Cruze chassis. At least the
Spark EV blew the doors off the 1.4L Spark gasser.

I wonder what a used Spark goes for these days?
Maybe I should have bought that $9k lemon law Spark I found in Wisconsin
7 years ago.
But it doesn't have the round trip capacity I need in the winter, and in
the winter of 2017 the city of Dewitt wrapped their free public charger
in police tape so I would have been running a 110V extension cord from
the office if I drove it to work.
If it was blue/blue with level 3 charging I would have bought it. But it
was black, and the upscale model with black vinyl ("leatherette") and no
fast charge socket.

The 1.6-liter engine makes a maximum of 574 hp at 9000 rpm, though
redline is all the way at 11,000. The electric motor attached to the
engine, also known as the MGU-K, makes 163 hp on its own. The two
front-mounted electric motors make a combined 326 hp. In all, maximum
output is 1063 hp, according to Mercedes. As for torque, the company
says it can't be provided because of how complex the drivetrain is.
Mercedes quotes a 0-62 time of 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 218 mph.

The W210 shifter uses a lockout solenoid to than prevent shifting out
of park. It can get sticky or even fail, however, as I recall, whne it
fails it fails open, meaning you can move the shifter to whereever you
like regardless of the car’s mode. My 98 W210 wagon was like this, and
I found that the solenoid is not a service part, you have to replace
the whole shifter assembly. Nope!

Wouldn't that mean you could always shift out of P without a battery in
the car?
I think there's also a mechanical cable linkage to the brake pedal like
on a W202 C-class. If so, I suspect that cable is where my problem lies.
For now, I need to move it 60 on (wet right now) grass. Dragging it in P
is a last resort.

Unfortunately I seem to have misplaced the operators manual for the 99

had the 99 manual handy, I know it explained towing mode, but IIRC all

No fire, no shift, but it cranks now, which it refused to do at first.

No, but IIRC there's a cable running to these older 722.6 shifters from
the brake pedal.
I'd just like to know where the override is so I can move the darn thing
to the garage.
On the later shifters, there's a little door to stick a
pen/screwdriver/key in.

On the 1234D shifter I don't see any override, even after I pull the

[MBZ] 99 210 with 1234 shfiter stuck in park

2024-03-30 Thread mitch--- via Mercedes

I need to move my 99 wagon.
So I put a battery in it, turned the key to run, put my foot on the
brake, and it wouldn't leave Park. Also wouldn't try to crank. Took the
battery out after a few minutes, checked it before putting it on a
charger and it was at 12.7V, so I'd think it's charged. Maybe a loose
connection with the battery cables just shoved in place?

Anyway, must the engine be running to shift normally?
If I can't get it to shift normally, how do I override the lock?

The deeper the better, if you go deep enough the temp should approximate
the annual average air temp. But unless your loop is infinitely large,
the heat pump will cool the earth in the winter and warm it in the
summer if you use AC.

I had neighbors install a groundwater system with a hot well and a cold
well. In the summer they pump water from the cold well, run it through
the heat pump and dump it in the hot well. In the winter they'd reverse
the flow. I was always worried that they'd have a cracked heat exchanger
and ruin my drinking water aquifer with refrigerant and compressor oil.

One time in the 1980s my dad's Cutlass Ciera 4.3 gelled up, the steel
line under the floor I think. Dad blamed the supercooled water from the
salted roads splashing the underbody. Had it towed to a shop and they
thawed it out indoors. I assume they put some treatment in the tank too.

Another time I was housesitting and the summer fuel in the Belarus acted
up, I had to put a Reddy Heater under it for an hour to get it going so
I could plow the driveway.
Parking it outdoors next to the house may have contributed to the
problem, but at least it was near a source of electricity.

60-90kWh seems like a huge battery for a hybrid.

If you get 2 miles per kWh that's over 100 miles on battery.

With a diesel engine, I'd rather pay for (and carry the weight of) a
20kWh battery.

IIRC, setting off the 4Matic traction nannies results in a blinking

But normally, a tire size discrepancy just gets you the blinking

Possibly an ABS warning and disabling too.

Turned out to be a cold solder joint where the usb cord was soldered to

Which explains why the LED status light still worked but no power came

Dryer vent hose, or (aluminized cardboard) intake air preheat hose, like
you used to see running from the exhaust manifold to the snorkel?

As long as the title reflects flood or salvage I’d be good with it

Apparently a Florida flood title works like a Michigan parts only title.
But a parts only car has been specifically determined to be not
economically feasible to make roadworthy to a safe standard. Flood cars
are salvaged by the thousands without much individual inspection when
there's a hurricane event.
