Re: [MBZ] The wave
Lo there, Loren! I've gotten waves and always waved back. It's usually the 126's and 123 drivers glad to see another one of our vintage still cruising around and looking beautiful. Sometimes the head nod is the wave, other times it's the single finger. Sometimes it's all fingers, barely lifted from the steering wheel. It's always *cool* though. Gotta be cool. Gabriel the parrot gets LOTS of waves and kids jumping around in cars next to us, so I may be confused just who is waving at me in the benz, or whether they are waving at Gabriel. Lynn Victoria '85 300SD Loren wrote: I wave at MB in most cases. One observation I have made is that people in new MB are oblivious, living in a world that revolves around them. 126 owners tend to be oblivious too. Guess there is some great social implication there, but I don't know what it is.

Well, you all know how I feel about my car already. But I'll tell you again if you didn't read the other thread. I love my car. Commuting to work on your bike might work out for you, but I am thinking that you wouldn't want an RN who is all stinky and sweaty from riding to work taking care of you in the hospital. And lots of people need to show up for work freshly showered and dressed, not all sweaty, rumpled and stinky because they rode their bike in to work that day. Can you see yourself walking in to Nordstrom's to buy some (whatever) and some sweaty guy comes up, and says, May I help you? I can't. Re: [MBZ] OT Bedroom Communities
Hey Brian, You have some good points, however my nearest big hospital does have locker rooms, just no showers. I think that the doctors have showers, but the nurses don't. There are no SUV's here at this house, but you would be happy to know that I still own my 30 year old Schwinn Suburban, and have been looking for a set of nice baskets with which to bring groceries home (from my favorite grocery store). We do have a grocery store within walking distance to the house as well as a video store, so I do walk to pick up one or two items, or a video. The Sounder also passes by a 7 minute walk from my house. I'd just love it if I could walk from the house to a station and get on a train. Hubby would love it if he could commute to work on the train, too. For the time being, I'll continue to ensconce myself in the luxurious cabin of my 300SD. Lynn
Re: [MBZ] WAS What is the most addictive NOW colorectal etc
I've had one, and it was pretty much a non-event. The procedure takes about 15 minutes, they give you a sedative as a rule and I don't remember a thing. The prep was interesting, you need to hang around the house for that one, and the really good thing about getting a colonoscopy done is that they can clip off little future problem spots, affording you the likely ability to avoid colon cancer and the potentially major surgery that entails. I was also told the 5 year interval. So you see, it's kind of like car care, you can do preventative maintenance, or you can do major repairs (that may or may not work) later. I like to avoid problems, don't you? It's always easier and cheaper to avoid trouble than to get out of it later.. Lynn

Re: [MBZ] OT Bedroom Communities
Hey Hendrik, I'd ride public transportation to the city to work IF it was efficient, and better than driving a personal car. Meaning, here, public transportation means that you get on a bus near your home, then ride that bus, and likely transferring to another bus in order to get to your place of employment for the day. The bus travels part of it's trip on suburban roads, and part of it's trip on the freeway. Unfortunately, during rush hour, the bus gets stuck in traffic just like a car, and then there is no benefit to taking a bus. Also the bus stops every few blocks, and so there's more time wastage, not to mention the time you spend standing around waiting for the bus to come. What the brainwaves in Washington state fail to understand is that people will not take the bus to work as long as it gets stuck in traffic. Only some type of train system would avoid getting stuck in traffic, and this state has been happily ripping out an extensive RR track system for the last 40 years, turning them into cutesy bike trails for recreation. We used to have an extensive train and trolley system in Seattle. On the old downtown streets, you can see where the train tracks used to be All over! Well, HELLO! We needed those for transportation! Look at the Sounder train, it's popularity has beensteadily growing, more trains added, people love it! It's just a crying shame that so much rail has been ripped out. Anyway, it's not an elitist thing, it's an efficiency thing. It's why I HATE riding buses. It'll make it harder to not do it. But I got thinking (anything to avoid those *(*(% hormones) about how addicted to Mercedes diesels some people are. Why is it that we love our cars so much? Why do we try to recruit others to our addiction? Why do we (or I, rather) see lonesome, unloved and underappreciated old diesels as individuals needing (and worthy, I might add) of rescue? I've been a mechanic for a long, long time and I know of no other vehicle more durable than a 123 Series diesel powered Mercedes Benz. They're all real good and perhaps the newer cars will go the distance as well. For me it is the most logical choice. I do not drive MBs to impress anyone other than myself. I'm impressed by what can't be seen. I find something good and I share the wealth. Many of my friends and relatives drive MBs and most do all their own repairs. WHAT IS IT about these cars, other than their overall wonderfulness? I don't know, but when I've had a hard day at school, I come out to the parking lot, and get in my car, and a wonderful feeling washes away the brain strain of the class and studies, at least temporarily, as I motor towards my home. As I am driving home, I often get the feeling, gee, why not cruise up to Mount Vernon for some locally grown organic produce, or I think I need to pick up a roast at this butcher shop in Silvana. The theme is usually I need to drive (some far away place) to pick up some (item that would be nice, but is not totally required today). I'll drive anywhere for anything. I buy old iMacs in Boston just so I can drive there to pick them up. Driving soothes me and clears my head. I'd almost prefer to be driving than anything else. Am I crazy?
