We visited three different families yesterday, ending up with the
Colombians (not the drug dealer types) for a magnificent traditional
spread. I had never had corn pudding before. That is some SICK casserole.
I am also grateful for the AMAZING lack of traffic throughout our
sojourn.across half the DMV Beltway.

Thanksgiving to celebrate her US heritage but she has resisted.
She is retired now since April so we could have actually done it this
year without her having to take a day off.
Not really complaining however as she did a turkey for us on this past

was always, But we have higher standard.

Nothing to do with where we were born/raised.

Absolutely - this is the first Thanksgiving without my father in-law, and he is
missed. It’s just good to be together with everyone.

You’re really getting into the crossfit and other stuff - I’m sure it makes you
feel better. I miss doing my almost daily spin classes...

Got into the kitchen around 9:00. Turkey is in the outdoor oven, gravy base
(stock) is simmering, crescent roll dough is on its first ride. A respite
until 11:00…

Re: [MBZ] Happy Thanksgiving!

2014-11-27 Thread Peter Frederick via Mercedes
Haha, got my Thanksgiving plans altered by my Mercedes this year. Was
planning to drive over to St. Louis to visit family, but when I went
to pull the rear pads last night to address a sticking rear brake
issue I discovered that BOTH rear wheel bearings are bad, one so bad
the wheel wobbles.

So I'll be replacing wheel bearings next week, I guess. Somehow
between six cars in the family, only one is capable of a road trip at
the moment, and it has iffy tires!

Anyone done this job? Looks like it could be a real PITA if anything
is really stuck.

So here's the list of the cars and what's wrong with them:

300D is in serious need of a rear end rebuild (new subframe mounts,
new shocks -- probably today or tomorrow -- and some more links), plus
it's running rough and needs a new turbo.

TE has seriously bad rear wheel bearings.

300E has a flex disk and/or center bearing out, shakes too much to
drive on the highway. Getting fixed this weekend.

300D (1985) my nephew drives needs a front end alignment in the worst
way, unstable on wet roads (and we had ice this morning)

300SDL is in the process of getting a custom made upper tank on the
radiator, the tank cracked a couple weeks ago and there are no
replacement radiators anywhere, including Germany. Only repair
possible is the custom tank from a racing shop or to retro-fit to the
later model cross-flow radiator. Only used the downflow for 1986 and
part of 1987 it seems. and the V8 rads have the upper hose fitting on
the other side.

My brother's Ranger needs new tires, they are nearly bald, don't want
to drive 5 hours on wet roads with bald tires.

I guess I'll be spending some money on cars this year.

Thanksgiving is at my brother's in a couple hours, we will probably
die from eating all the pies I made for 10 people

Wow. Five Mercedes and still no reliable driver. I hope you have a warm
and dry place to work on them.

That is why I have my new truck (13 F150) . It is nice (although
expensive) to have a vehicle that needs nothing.
I have driven it for a year now and all I have done is to change oil 2
or 3 times.

It is also the reason that my good wife has a reasonably new and
reliable vehicle (07 Honda Accord with about 55K miles on it).
She complained rather bitterly about issues with the 2 previous ones and
I failed to keep them up to her standards.
They were not bad cars (a 97 Mercury Sable and then a 98 Toyota Avalon)
but they had little electrical issues that drove her to distraction.

I drove my 76 300D a lot this past summer and although it has lots of
little issues, it really did not bother me. I finally adjusted the
valves this year and that helped a lot with cold starting.
Next on my list for the spring is to finally figure out why I have to
open the hood and push on the stop lever more than 50% of the time.
Does not prevent it being driven but I get tired of people asking me why
I have to do that.

...and to all of you. Some wonderful thoughts expressed by y'all. My wife and
my son's wonderful GF made a pumpkin pie all the way from pumpkins last night.
We are having family here tonight and I'm loving it. My cardiologist says all
readings nominal and I'm feeling very blessed.

Having been up for a couple of hours already and still not able to start in the
kitchen due to sleeping relatives in the family room, I figured I would catch
up on my mail.

Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving, even the foreigners who aren’t
observing it or have already observed it, and you enjoy the time with family
and friends.

Don’t eat too much….

That's OK. Im not going anywhere.

I'm still working a couple of potential deals on an R129, so if one of them
comes through I'll have my project for the holidays.

I've got one deal about to pop - the seller has called me back after a week and
is trying to get me to counter. He has cut his price twice, dropping $1300 so
far. We're $300 apart, but I'm going to wear him down, as I know the wife
wants the car gone and he needs the money. his last response was, If I
can't get $ for it, I'll just keep it. Right.

If he doesn't come down, no problem. There are plenty others on the market.

After the inlaws headed home, I went out and spent all of 30 minutes replacing
the leaking lumbar bladder in my driver's seat.

It's jobs like this that really make me thankful for these cars. Two screws,
pull the retaining strips for the upholstery on the seat sides and bottom out,
slide the board the old bladder is mounted on, slide the new one in, thread
the line through the seat hinge and connect to the adjusting wheel, put the
retaining strips back in and the two screws in the seat back. All of 30
minutes, if that.

And now I have a working lumbar pad in my driver's seat. The last thing on the
car that didn't work. Maybe a new lower seat pad for the driver's seat is
next, but everything works

Now I need to find that SL500 so I have something to tinker with.

I think that one of the original reasons for giving thanks was for the
