Anyone out there happen to have a spare filter housing setup from the 123 that they would care to part with for a reasonable sum? My car is the 115 300D rather than the 240D if that makes any difference to the housing. Randy On 22/02/2011 8:58 PM, Dieselhead wrote: that'd work. Actually, I happen to have a 616 from a W115 240D. Re: [MBZ] OM617 oil filter relocation plates for sale.
OK, I'm lost in space. What exactly is being offered? If I read it right, you are making a plate that attaches to the engine in lieu of the original mount for the oil filter. I assume one would then run some form of aftermarket oil filter relocation setup to move the filter onto the inner fender. The purpose being to provide more space near the engine and perhaps to make it easier to change the oil and use a more conventional screw on filter. Did I get it right? If so, what are you recommending for the relocation kit and what filter would you run? Re: [MBZ] OM617 oil filter relocation plates for sale.
Yep, you got it. One person asked for one in my services advert thread, then another, and I decided to make it a customizable product. Some people want one for a remote aftermarket head, some want 2 in order to relocate the stock housing for ease of access to the IP internals, or for clearance, etc. Personally, I'd use two with the OEM filter housing and lengths of hydraulic hose with proper field-install fittings for AN or JIC flares, and a low-pressure hose clamp and barb setup for the bypass line. I really don't have any recommendations for a filter head kit, having never used one, but the people on the forum could likely help if you bugged em. Re: [MBZ] OM617 oil filter relocation plates for sale.
In the 200D 2.4 project, I made 2 plates, one for the engine and one for the OE oil filter. they were connected with 3 4' lengths of 3/8 hyd hose from a farm store. Plain NPT thread. The oil filter resides behind the left headlight under the hood. Yep, you got it. One person asked for one in my services advert thread, then another, and I decided to make it a customizable product. Re: [MBZ] OM617 oil filter relocation plates for sale.
Bingo! My thoughts exactly. It is so difficult to get the stupid can back on. I think it was designed to be easy with the car on a hoist at the MB shop but it is awful to do on the ground. I am thnking spin on filter like on North American cars. What think you all of the appropriate filter? I know the adapters are available from various people like Jegs and Summit. I was more concerned with what filter would be appropriate for an old diesel. Do I need to worry about oil pressure or the viscosity issues? Do I need a filter such as would be used on a diesel pickup truck etc? Bearing in mind of course, the amount of available space under the hood.
