Re: [MBZ] OT it’s COLD this morning
-4 F here this evening in Winnipeg. We plan to fly to Ottawa on Boxing Day to visit our elder son and family. Looks like we will be able to do so. Vancouver and Toronto airports are cancelling flights as they battle snow and cold but Winnipeg and Ottawa look like they will be fine. My nephew and his wife were to fly to Hawaii via Vancouver yesterday but the whole trip got cancelled as they couldn't get to Vancouver. They will try again in March. She is a teacher so has to go when there is a break in classes. Merry Christmas to you all! The lowest we've recorded this week is 2°F. The geothermal unit is keeping us nice and warm, it is cycling so it is not at capacity. I have the cut-off board pulled for the aux heat strips - so they are not in play. We keep the house at 73 in the day and 68 at night. We are very happy with this unit. We are totally electric except the gas grill which now is fed by a 500 gallon propane tank. Our highest electric bill this year was for September, and was $280. My wife runs two indoor beds where she grows mixed salad greens - the grow lights are on 15 hours a day, year round. Re: [MBZ] OT it’s COLD this morning
Here in Lexington, NC, we woke up to an ice cold 50 degree house. It got down to 7F last night, and at some point in the night, our heat shut off. Our hard-wired Ecobee 4 t-stat had no power, so my first thought was a tripped breaker. After a trip out to the cold 38F garage, my suspicion was confirmed. I reset the breaker, and after a couple minutes, the heat pump fired up. nearly an hour has passed, and the inside temp has risen to 60F! The heating systems in this house aren’t quite enough to deal with this bitterly cold weather. We have a dual zone Trane system with dual heat pumps, one for each level. Luckily, the upstairs zone was still working. The cold has also exposed the low quality vinyl double pane windows since cold air comes in around the side and top seals. I’m hoping there’s a way that the seals can be replaced, or it could be that the cold weather has shrunken the seals. The house is only a year old. Re: [MBZ] OT it’s COLD this morning
I started us out on the off-peak plan because the youngster often works second shift. That changes every 3 months, so it’s a wash, or used to be. With his girlfriend living there now the usage is a bit more like conventional hours, so I need to look into changing the plan. The thing that chaps my *ss is that they talk about all these plans they have but there’s no way to compare your existing bill/plan to one of the others. You would think they gather enough information they could do this, but they don’t. At least not on paper or the web site. I need to just give them a call. Oh, and because of the mini-splits kicking the consumption up they’re sending me nastygrams about how a typical house like mine should be using a lot less energy. Really? -D > On Dec 24, 2022, at 10:30 AM, Bob Rentfro via Mercedes > wrote: > > I will not chime in because our weather is too perfect. > My gas bill (H2O, furnace) does double this time of year (up to a staggering > $58 a month), but I’ve dialed in APS and I’m on the $162 a month every month > plan. > I need a Mercedes and a house. > > AZBob > > Sent from my iPhone > >> On Dec 24, 2022, at 8:25 AM, dan penoff.com via Mercedes >> wrote: >> >> My gas bill at the Flagstaff house is laughable. Re: [MBZ] OT it’s COLD this morning
Now Thursday and Friday I will say it ran just about 24/7 except for night when I have it go to 66, at which time it will cycle. Ours had an issue since we bought the house that at temps below freezing at random the outside unit would be shut down in lockout mode for low pressure, the unit would be frosted over, and the breaker for the aux heat would be tripped. It was completely at random and could go a long time then suddenly do it. Winter would then be over and I would forget about it until it happened again the next winter. When it happened I would reset the tripped breaker, short the defrost pins and it would go into defrost mode and be fine. All I have read indicate that the defrost board is fine if jumping the pins puts it into defrost. I also had read about testing the coil temp sensor and/or make sure it was attached. This one is hard wired to the board so not really a way to test it. The sensor was properly attached to the coil as well. Finally I decided to get someone to look at it but thought before I do, I’m just going to order a new board for it. I did that which comes with the hard wired sensor of course. I also went ahead and replaced the breaker. Never had a problem since. I suspect perhaps it was the coil sensor not seeing it needed to defrost, when the heat strips kicked on it would trip the breaker. I will not chime in because our weather is too perfect. My gas bill (H2O, furnace) does double this time of year (up to a staggering $58 a month), but I’ve dialed in APS and I’m on the $162 a month every month plan. I need a Mercedes and a house. My gas bill at the Flagstaff house is laughable. I don’t know why, but I’m not complaining. Gas furnace, range, demand hot water heater, dryer. Last month it was $82. That’s with 2-1/2 adults (the person living in the casita uses the dryer, but heat is a mini-split.) The electric bill is another story, however. Since the mini-splits have been added it has approached the $200 mark. I’m not sure I’m on a good rate plan, though, either. I can’t say how long total it ran on aux heat but it was not constant. Sent from my iPhone > On Dec 24, 2022, at 8:42 AM, Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes > wrote: > > 19F here which is very unusual. Re: [MBZ] OT it’s COLD this morning
Sorry. Shoveling sunshine at the southern manse with a low of 29F. A quick run to Wally World early this morning revealed throngs of former Northerners with thinned blood dressed like they were at one of the poles. Parkas, gloves, you name it. I always chuckle when I see this. If the temps drop below about 40F everyone here thinks they’re going to die from the cold, or so it seems. It will be warmer at the western manse today than in Florida, or so it appears. Mid-50s in Flagstaff through the middle of next week, typical winter weather. Guess we chose poorly for our holiday gathering location. No injuries, thankfully, but Mrs. Dan is not feeling well this morning from some stomach bug. I had some discomfort earlier in the week, it might be what I had. So now I’m designated head of festivities, which means everyone comes in, makes their own libations and rummages through the fridge for snacks until the beef tenderloin roast is served this evening. If you are hungry or thirsty it’s your own fault. No car plans at present, but I did notice that I really need to wash the ML550. And the E320. Black cars really show the dirt. -D > On Dec 24, 2022, at 9:51 AM, Peter Frederick via Mercedes > wrote: > > Five years and a week ago I broke my left ankle taking the trash out in the > garage, thankfully it wasn’t this cold. > > 9F this morning with a strong breeze out of the West, I still haven’t tried > to clear the drive. Re: [MBZ] OT it’s COLD this morning
Five years and a week ago I broke my left ankle taking the trash out in the garage, thankfully it wasn’t this cold. 9F this morning with a strong breeze out of the West, I still haven’t tried to clear the drive. As per usual, there is a drift at the end that’s too big to drive through, but I had zero interest in digging it out with blowing snow that would fill it back in as fast as I dug and a -20 wind chill. I don’t need to go anywhere until late this afternoon, if then. it was -8 yesterday norming. House is snug except my bedroom (converted covered porch) but I have a big comforter my Mom got me 40 years ago so I slept well. Cats stayed in the warm part of the house for some reason… More snow and wind predicted on Sunday, so Christmas this year may be next weekend no need to battle snow to have dinner with the family. [MBZ] OT it’s COLD this morning
19F here which is very unusual. My heating systems are struggling and aren’t really keeping up so it is chilly in the manse. It was a two dog night because I only have two dogs. Hahaha I just remembered too that 4yr ago today I woke up in the hospital after having my broken leg fixed the evening before. A casualty of Ultimate but that aspect of dumbassery has been relegated to the past. Y’all stay warm and enjoy the holiday weekend, Christmas, Festivus, Kwaanzaa, Hanukkah, Solstice, Saturnalia, or whatever you celebrate. I don’t think I’m going to be working on any cars today but will be studying more how to get this M137 cam position sensor replaced later in the week when it warms up again. —FT Sent from my iPad ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
