Re: [MBZ] ACA

2013-08-14 Thread Larry T

(BTW, this isn't directed at Roger Hale)
What's wrong with the ACA? Need a compelling reason to keep it at arms
length?  How about these reasons?
A whole new monster will have to be fed when we already have a deficit
situation. How financially bad must the fed make things before people
see a disaster? it continues ONLY because they can print money - and
the more they print the less we have is worth - but they MUST print more
as that's the only way to pay their bills.

A good reason to not jump on board aca? How about it's not the
government's charter to provide health care? (or many of the other
things that are driving this country farther and farther into debt?
Like Detroit? Good that's that's where we are heading - it'll just take
the USA longer cause we can print money) The Constitution has served us
pretty well for over 200 years - now people want to deviate from it on
the promise (and nothing else BUT a promise) of a street hustler who
never had a real job, refuses to release education and other records, is
distributing jobs as czars like a card dealer in Vegas and then allows
those people who have zero congressional oversight to make high salaries
while they create humongous regulations that will control every minute
factor of our lives? Is that compellingenough?

 There are plenty of ways to improve the greatest health care system
the world has seen without throwing it in the trash and giving it to a
bunch of government bureaucrats! (tort reform, allowing insurers to
cross state lines for 2) We don't know who these people are! How do we
know they have our best interest at heart? They may be fine people but
they are so well protected by the bureaucracy we will never know - until
we see the regulations they are cranking out faster than the mint is
cranking out sheets of 100 dollar bills! We used to be able to count on
the news media to vet these kinds of people for us. Now they have their
own agenda - and we're not a big part of it. They only dig through the
trash of those perceived as conservatives so it can be splashed on the
TV News.

How can people not see the problem with what's going on? You seem to
be willing to _hope_ for the best and if that's not what you get, oh
well, maybe we'll like socialism? Well, no one in the history of the
world has found it preferable to freedom, but hey! maybe we'll be the
1st?  Yeah, that's it  sheesh

Creating a new financial monster using the federal government to
administer it, who as a whole, has the _worst _track record of anyone
who ever tried to successfully operate a traditional business, arethe
LAST thing we should consider. There is NO reason to think it will
succeed other than wishful thinking. We need to operate on facts, not
wishes. I would think that this would be _so _obvious that even our
most highly educated could see it!

Well, if 12-18million illegal aliens can break the law by illegally
crossing our border (an infraction that can get you shot or imprisioned
(as in mexico) in most countries) and our fed govt takes the tactic of
ignoring those law breakers -- if we can get a similar number to refuse
to enroll will they come after us? Why would they justify chasing down
12-18 million people for not signing on to insurance when they won't
chase down a similar number who broke a law (illegally crossing our
border0 that is one of the few things the constitution says the federal
Government is authorized to do?

IMO if we can get a similar number of people to refuse to sign they will
find something else to do... Of course, the illegal aliens are
potential demorat voters so the powers that be tend to be permissive -
while those who might refuse to sign the insurance plan are people who
might also be members of Tea Parties. And we already now the
administrations vision of the TP.

Speaking of illegal aliens breaking a law that the fed now chooses to
stop prosecuting, when will they decide murder is OK? Or train/bank
robbery? The fed has already chosen to ignore law breakers who
intimidate voters. Why not murderers? What has become of America?

BTW, I missed the last gun thread --- if I may add a small comment --
instead of doing deep background checks for all gun transfers, how about
deep background checks for people wanting to run for office (the job
done previously by the news media) and posting any law breaking history
on the internet?

The lack of enforcement tools takes all the fun out of not paying.
However, since I'll be filing a protest return explaining why I'm not
even discussing my health insurance with them, there's a fair chance
they'll try to prosecute me for exercising my First Amendment rights
in the form of a 'tax protest'.

http://www.imctr.com/Content.aspx?id=2683

Refusing to Pay
The penalty will be paid to the IRS along with an individual’s taxes.
The IRS cannot criminally prosecute individuals who refuse to pay the
penalty. Also, the IRS cannot file a notice of federal tax lien (NFTL)
or “levy any property in an effort to collect the penalty” (CRS, page
7). However, the government could deduct the penalty amount from any
IRS tax-funded checks or other government payments.

For more information on how the government plans on collecting
delinquent payments, click here »

Chief Justice John Roberts acknowledged that the penalty amount “will
be far less than the price of insurance, and, by statute, it can never
be more.” He, also, went on to add that some Americans may find it a
“reasonable financial decision” to pay the penalty rather than
purchase insurance.

Exemptions, Exemptions
Individuals who are not required to file a tax return, or whose income
is below the federal poverty line are among those who will be exempt
from the mandate’s penalty. For 2012 poverty thresholds, click here »

Other exemptions include:

* Financial hardship
* Religious objections
* Those without coverage for less than three months
* Undocumented immigrants
* Incarcerated individuals
* Members of Indian tribes
* Those not able to pay for coverage that exceeds 8% of household
income

Re: [MBZ] ACA

2013-08-08 Thread Rich Thomas
I actually one night read whatever version was posted before they voted
on something that needed to be passed before we could find out what was
in it. I think it was something like 1200 pages, but it was double and
triple spaced and had very little on each page.

A good part of the law addressed lots of other laws, and adding money
to various programs that had nothing to do with health (or medical)
care, or maybe peripherally. The parts that were related to
health/medical care were pretty much incomprehensible, and referred to
setting up various other boards and commissions and such to suss out the
details. So basically there was not a lot in there to do with
health/medical care and it just sorta kicked it down the road to these
various other groups to try to figure out.

So basically it spread a lot of money around, and gave the
responsibility to bureaucrats who apparently would not really be
answerable to any guiding or managing force. I think that is why it is
a train wreck and nobody really knows what the hell it actually is, or
does, or when, or how.

Lucky us. I find it interesting that the unions don't like it, and the
congressional staff don't like it.

The unions indeed do not like it. The congressional staff, however, have
just been taken care of; they will get their monetary supplements to pay
for their coverage.

We have to pay for our own.

Yes, lucky us.

Not so, refuse2enroll.com

The lack of enforcement tools takes all the fun out of not paying.
However, since I'll be filing a protest return explaining why I'm not even
discussing my health insurance with them, there's a fair chance they'll try to
prosecute me for exercising my First Amendment rights in the form of a 'tax
protest'.

http://www.imctr.com/Content.aspx?id=2683

Refusing to Pay
The penalty will be paid to the IRS along with an individual’s taxes. The IRS
cannot criminally prosecute individuals who refuse to pay the penalty. Also, the
IRS cannot file a notice of federal tax lien (NFTL) or “levy any property in an
effort to collect the penalty” (CRS, page 7). However, the government could
deduct the penalty amount from any IRS tax-funded checks or other government
payments.

For more information on how the government plans on collecting delinquent
payments, click here »

Chief Justice John Roberts acknowledged that the penalty amount “will be far
less than the price of insurance, and, by statute, it can never be more.” He,
also, went on to add that some Americans may find it a “reasonable financial
decision” to pay the penalty rather than purchase insurance.

Exemptions, Exemptions
Individuals who are not required to file a tax return, or whose income is below
the federal poverty line are among those who will be exempt from the mandate’s
penalty. For 2012 poverty thresholds, click here »

Other exemptions include:

* Financial hardship
* Religious objections
* Those without coverage for less than three months
* Undocumented immigrants
* Incarcerated individuals
* Members of Indian tribes
* Those not able to pay for coverage that exceeds 8% of household income

i'm going to say the same thing i said before. the current system is
unsustainable and sinking. i'd like to see what the new one has to offer
in practical terms before passing judgment. it may be the worse disaster
of all time, but i'm not commenting until i see it in action

 Gary,
 Let's see...2000 page bill nobody read, changes made to a law by the
 president and NOT congress, 16,000 pages of regulations that few have
 actually read. By the time you wait and see what's in it, everyone (except
 the politicians) will be screwed, including you. ACA is sorta like the Fair
 Tax...looks reasonable on paper, but a pure train wreck to try to
 implement. Everyone knows what is wrong with our current health care
 system, but can congress address those problems, no, they pass a new law to
 create new/different problems. Just sayin'..
