Bad car names? Come on guys, you aren't even scratching the surface. (I think the real reason Germans use numbers are for the very translations reasons names bring.) Come on Frenchys, you can do better) Honda Thats - http://www.honda.co.jp/Thats/ (Seriously, Thats the name. Whose on second?) Honda Monpal - http://www.honda.co.jp/monpal/ (Technically a little scooter - but still) Suzuki Welfare - http://www.suzuki.co.jp/welfare/index.html (This is a scooter/wheelchair ... but the name, man, the name) Suzuki MR Wagon - http://www.suzuki.co.jp/dom4/lineup/mrwagon/ (Yes, the Mister Wagon. I'm sure It's the Emm Are but man that's funny) The Mitsubishi i - http://www.mitsubishi-motors.co.jp/i/index.html (I guess all the good names were taken.) The Suzuki Every - http://www.flickr.com/photos/neil_b/36406479/ (Everyone needs a Suzuki) This could go on all day, and yes it's the Japanese that obviously have the most interesting car names. -- Knowledge is power... Ah car names. I used to chuckle at the Chevy conversion vans called Landmark. As in what you don't want to become on the side of the freeway. What's up with the Kia Sephia? I think the auto industry is running out of names. Why start just naming them after cities (as in the Hyundai Tucson?) that just doesn't flow or make sense. There's nothing about my home town of Tucson that is reflected in that car. Remember the minivan called the Montana? State names are another source of inspiration. Then you could talk about numbers. Is my Saab 900 that much higher up than your Mercedes 300? And is the Saab 9000 ten times higher than the 900? I bet Chrysler is miffed over the Ford 500 (which in my mind imitates the styling of the 300). I think it refers to uni-body construction, though I don't know what it means. The Deutsch-English translator at www.dict.cc translates it to pontoon, which could be an example of uni-body construction, I guess - On 5/5/06, Mike Canfield [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Or a bit closer to homeWHat the heck does Ponton mean? -- OK Don, KD5NRO Norman, OK The Americans will always do the right thing... after they've exhausted all the alternatives. A ponton is a style of Mercedes from the mid 50's to very early 60's I do believe, they are called that because they look like pontoon bridges from ww2. That's funny. What's even funnier is the fact that for some reason they tack on the acronym TRD for some of those trucks. What could be stinkier than a Tacoma TuRD? Excellent list. When I was a volunteer firefighter we used to call the Fiero 'The REAL Firebird. Many ended up as crispy critters. Re: [MBZ] Bad car names (was: Re: The Wave)
There was an interesting kit that could make a Fiero look a lot like a Ferrari from a distance. They were a real bear to get in and out of. The door sill was high and wide as I believe it was part of the structure of the car. I remember sitting in one in a dealer showroom and being almost unable to get back out- and that was long ago when I was much younger and thinner. I probably couldn't get out now.
