If you have to do it crawling under a car on jack stands, you aren't going to
want to do it repeatedly. Get the Bosch from Rusty. Ask Wonko for details.

My experience with FLAPS starters and alternators; They are not rebuilt, they
are repaired. May be good enough to get you home, may not.

Rusty's are new of Rebuilt. Rebuilt = All functioning wear parts are replaced.

YMMV

2X on a starter from Rusty...I just replaced one on the 240D. $146 + $72
core charge. Free shipping and no sales tax for me when ordered on the web.
Remanufactured in Germany by Bosch. It comes with a 2-year warranty
including 24/7 towing insurance should the starter fail. On the 240D the
RR is doable on ramps.

Keeping on keeping on

checked the connections. All is good, flow of electrons proceeds as
planned. Starter is sucky, but SWMBA is unwilling to consider idiot
spouse needs beater car to run. FLAPS has a starter for $89. Lack of
a lift precludes ability to change out the thing anyway.

Tighten up stuff, finish the valve job and oil change. Clean contacts
at the battery. Glow the heck out of it and lay on the start knob.
Swear the thing is going to pop off in my hand. Keep her spinning,
keep her spinning. Wonder if Scotty would be able to provide some
trek magic. Finally she coughs. Glow again and haul on the knob.
More coughing. Glow some more and am sure the battery is going to
fart and leave. Coughs and sputters, then lights off, and dies. This
is progress!

Light off and keeps running. Even better. Finally get her rolling
under her own power, so I head off to the fuel station and fill the
tank, since the stuff inside is at least three months old. Next I
have to put the bike innertube back on, since shoe goo does not last
well, aging and crumbling.

Congrats! Sounds like it blew out a lot of carbon. I am sure it has
been mentioned, but for that much carbon, something was wrong. Check
the injector. If it is ok, and the prechamber has not lost its
ball, then you should consider having the pump tested on a
calibration bench. 90% it is a bad injector and/or prechamber.

I had placed a 10 inch 2x6 between the GP and the brake booster just

Will be doing a valve adjustment in the morrow, as it is that mileage

will be holding off on brakes for now.

Re: [MBZ] Blow it out your.....

2009-06-14 Thread Redghost

I spent yesterday washing and waxing her.

I would have done the tow, but idiot son is not gifted enough, and
SWMBA was adamant that nothing of the sort would be tolerated. Once
she left the premises, the child was put in the van to do his job.
Had he been smarter, he would be licensed, but he forgot to do that
at 16.

I was not looking forward to the next step, which consisted of pouring
liquid nitrogen on the offending part after heat soaking the block
around it. Then using an air driven palm nailer to dislodge the core.

Gump is my baby. Even though SWMBA tells me I have to sell her when
the new car arrives. I end up with the E300D as consolation. What
am I going to do without the leaking window seals, the lumpy seat, the
mono radio and vintage cabin air?

Yeah, I was thinking putting the IP on a test stand was too much for
this case, but like I said, 90% probability it is a bad nozzle, and
that probably took out the prechamber too. I always kept a stash of
used injectors and prechambers, so a gump budget repair CAN be made.

glow hole

IT CAME OUT

Well, I had to bump start her. Oldest boy was in the van pushing me
along the street to get me to 25mph. First two times it did not light
off. I forgot to open the fuel knob. After munching the rear bumper
shocks I got her to light off and drove around. She was going great.
Went up a few small hills, then down a really steep one. Pull a U at
a wide intersection, floor it up the hill and half way up she just
SPIT the offending plug out and spewed huge clouds of smoke out from
under the hood.

Now I am charging the battery, so that I can get the glow to go long
enough and the starter wind up fast enough to get it lit off.

2009-06-13 Thread Loren Faeth
