I don't know if everybody does it, but Tire Rack puts the tires' serial numbers 
on the invoice for warranty tracking.

I've signed up for text message updates from USPS and UPS, does FedEx do it too?
Usually, but now always, I get the message within a few minutes of delivery.

Yeah talked to the FedEx people on the phone already and they 
called back within 20 min but in the end was told I had to wait 
till Sat. as that was how long they had to find and deliver the 
packages.


I always have gone out to talk with the drivers when they found 
us as in the case of the FedEx previous drivers who it seems have 
had more and more trouble finding where we live as new drivers 
come in. UPS used to at least in years past bring the replacement 
drivers around and introduce them but that hasn't happened in the 
last 10 years or so. They still seem to know where we are and 
find us. May be that they have a database with locations and 
directions that is available to them.

When we moved here, the UPS driver knew where we were, but the FedEx
driver was relatively clueless. The first time I had a FedEx parcel (a
refurbished laptop) I had to go outside and wave my arms as the FedEx
vehicle drove on the road outside the subdivision. Once he stopped and
came to our front gate and I told him who I was he knew where we were.

I have found going out and talking with the drivers help. In my
situation, it's relatively easy to see them coming. In your case,
not so much ...

It must be a new guy then because the last three going back 
something like 4-5 years have not been too bad at bringing the 
stuff to the house. Well except for every once in a while when 
stuff was left at the gate. Before that we didn't get new drivers 
except in 6-7 years or longer.

I too sit back about 1000’ in the woods. The trucks come to the house. The other day I had something delivered, I hear this vehicle crashing down the driveway. About a 16’ box truck. Guy leaves the package, I think it was UPS but no markings. He kinda grunts at me, the regular guys always chat a bit ( one of the fedex guys owned a sweet old Benz!).  He leaves and I hear this godawful crashing again. Little while later I left and go up the driveway and there’s a small tree, maybe 5” at the base about 15’ tall knocked over into the driveway. I managed to get by it, next day got out the chainsaw to it.

Really?!!! The IDIOT left this all beside the mail box out on a
dirt road in the middle of the woods with no other houses in
sight. My house is back in the woods about 900' from the road
with no sight line to the road. So they were sitting out there
from 10:45 till they were snatched, whenever that was.

I hope that guy at least knows how to get dressed by himself in
the morning.

Now I have to wait till Sat. for them to 'look for the items and
deliver them to me.' Then if they don't find them I can call the
sender and let them know so they can either send replacements or
refund me my money.

What is wrong with companies now adays that they even allow this
kind of thing. Or is it just that I got unlucky and lost the draw
of the day.

That arrangement has been in place for a number of years.

FedEx and UPS both use the USPS for the “last mile” service.  It’s called 
“SmartPost” I believe. When FedEx uses it the tracking number is a USPS 
tracking number, but it doesn’t show up in the USPS system until the “handoff” 
takes place.

Apparently they can change their minds, too.  I had a package coming via FedEx 
SmartPost last week, and FedEx ended up delivering it, despite it clearing 
being identified as one they were going to hand off to the USPS and having a 
USPS tracking number.

Last few items I've ordered on line were shipped via UPS and delivered by
US Postal carrier..
Apparently, UPS has now worked a "deal" with USPS to do their house to
house delivery on some of the smaller items. [I got small packages of
"stuff" in each case.]

Times have been hard... guess everyone has had to pull the wagons in a
tighter circle to survive.

their own (branded) trucks. It’s been this way for some time. As my local FedEx 
Ground driver has told me, it’s like owning a Dunkin’ Donuts franchise - with 
one you can barely break even, with two or more you can get pretty flush.

That’s my analogy having hung out with a number of Dunkin’ Donuts franchisees. 
They also told me that they do really well when the economy is bad, too. Mom 
and Dad may not have money to take the kids to Mickey Dees, but they’ll damned 
sure not give up that cup of coffee on the way to work every morning.

I too sit back about 1000’ in the woods. The trucks come to the house. The 
other day I had something delivered, I hear this vehicle crashing down the 
driveway. About a 16’ box truck. Guy leaves the package, I think it was UPS but 
no markings. He kinda grunts at me, the regular guys always chat a bit ( one of 
the fedex guys owned a sweet old Benz!).  He leaves and I hear this godawful 
crashing again. Little while later I left and go up the driveway and there’s a
