I notice we haven't heard much from Randy lately, apparently he took my 
suggestion and told his wife she's no longer allowed to wear pants. Don't

Nobody that I read here has rules about skirts/dresses.  so... no law
has been mentioned, i.e. no pants.
Just a bunch of guys that like to see a bit of leg from time to time -

such thing as a good Syrian, they're all rotten right to the core."
So I replied "What about Harvey's son in-law, isn't he Syrian? Didn't you say 
he was one of the finest young men you had ever met?"
To which he replied "Well, I suppose but he's hardly Syrian." Meaning he'd been 
here 20 years. As we went on it turns out my dad knows LOTS of Syrians he 
likes...

There's a lot more on the A/J campaign, several books about that era.
A root of the problem was that the newspapers at the time were
explicitly partisan, and would cater to extremes in order to sell more
papers than their rivals... but ultimately you should read any of the
books.

Nahh. Everyone knew his "Archie Bunkerness" well, so it was more or less 
overlooked.  I tried not to goad him for the most part, as when I did things 
would usually end up with him getting into a verbal battle with someone else.

In fairness to him, he mellowed out a lot in his later years. Not sure if it 
was due to the dementia or him just not caring.

How much of the education system is truly encouraging
independent thinking?  The system sure has a strong record of
suppressing anything and everyone who doesn't toe the
official line - from kindergarten through doctorate. 


Thus it would seem the well "educated" are _less_ likely to

I note the pervasive use of passive aggressive responses is quite often the
response to direct confrontation among the "politically correct".

Personally, I am offended by this type of insulting behavior much more than
a direct attack on my character, my ancestry, or number of married parents.

It really is time to start using a plain dialogue that leaves no doubt
about how we personally feel about an issue.  "Those who stand for nothing
will fall for anything" applies as much now as it ever did.

I wonder if it might be because of the influence of lawyers who dominate many 
parts of our lives with laws that discourage force, or could it be the same 
result as in ancient England:

"The king to Oxford sent a troop of horse, For Tories (Republicans) own no 
argument but force; With equal care, to Cambridge books he sent, For Whigs 
(Democrats) allow no force but argument."

Think how long it's been since there was a duel between members of the 
legislature.

I got yelled at by some pinko hag at the Stealership this morning.  I called 
POTUS a cry baby with the Today show report on his being a sniveling whiner on 
the TV.  

We learned that my indy installed a faulty aftermarket LCA on the W220.  It is 
out of spec and makes the airmatic go crazy trying to figure out how to deal 
with it.  It gives up after a while and bleeds all the air.  New sensors did 
not make it right, so the programing got hacked for it to accept the issue and 
just spew the error code.  Now I have to get the indy to put the right part in 
place of the over size part

I , and I am sure many others, appreciate your 
point of view.  However, with the impending 
attacks and financial meltdown, the unfortunate 
situation we, and the rest of the world, are 
facing merits discussion.  Perhaps even some 
planning.   Sticking heads in the sand and 
denying the inevitable result of the course we 
are on gains nothing.


I hope you don't read anything political into 
this.  It is meant as an assessment of the real 
situation we are facing.  We know there are 
islamic terroists within.  We will be attacked, 
and more frequently.  Our economy is on the fast 
track to meltdown, and the gress of cons has 
floored the petal.  The thug in chief is doing 
the same as is the relish geon of piece.


If someone has no intention of breathing after 
the next few months, then the above does not 
apply.  I hope to be breathing for as many more 
years as possible.  I am concerned.


I'd be happy as a clam if we lived in 1950 
'merka and all we had to worry about was Nikita 
and how fast we could get our 57 chevy to go. 
(or keeping my MBs running in the 35¢ gas early 
70s)

today I drove some lezus wannabe Exploder.  Stupid japanese/merkun 
dash design!  It took me 5 min to figger out how to get the a/C to 
run.


but, it was "better" in a way than the beloved "ACC3" in our MBs 
because it had left and right controls.


From a HCI (human computer interaction) perspective, the interface 
design was complete crap.


Gimme a 123 240D.  Completely intuitive, and complete control! 
Learning curve: <1 second.

I agree completely but the NRA seems unwilling to manage the situation at all 
which makes them look obstructive and uncooperative and the anti-gun crowd is 
making much hay off that. By being pro-instant check they'd take their

Yesterday half the Charleston PD seemed to be at a location up the road 
when I drove by, appears that two YBGs had a shootout in the street 
there, about 150-200yd from the middle school.  Of course nobody dint 
see nuffin, so they will probably be at it again when it warms up a bit 
in a coupla days.

There are plenty of "gun laws" on the books, enforcement of those would 
do more to cut down on the crime than anything else.  These "common 
sense" laws or regulations or whatever really mostly affect law-abiding 
citizens, which is not generally where the problems occur.  Smoke and 
mirrors mostly...

You don't think being required to become an FFL would inconvenience anyone
evenly moderately?
Why don't you apply for an FFL and get back to me on that. 

The best part is, there still doesn't seem to be any statement of how many sales
makes you a 'dealer'. 
I sold two brand new guns to the son of an internet friend last month, for less
than I paid for them more than a year ago.
Am I now an 'unlicensed dealer'?

And why are you calling  an executive order a "law"?

Has anyone seen the Making A Murderer netflix series?
I breezed thru about 3 episodes and the end.
I suspect Steven Avery of Manitowoc is no CEO-type but is a rather
occasional criminal that was railroaded.  I don't hear opposing views,
however, which is suspicious.

They're being dumb, its like arguing with a four year old, you're never going 
to win and you lose respect for just trying. By digging in their heels and 
being obstructionist they look consistently bad. Somewhere along the way 
LaPierre and crowd decided they were vigilante cowboys protecting the homeland, 
same with the Republican party.
Assuming Bernie gets the nod from the Democrats I predict he'll win since I'm 
still cautiously optimistic that Trump won't run. If Hillary wins the primary 
all bets are off, it'll totally depend on who runs for the Republicans.
If it came down to Hilary and Trump slugging it out I feel like a moderate 
Libertarian candidate like a Ron Paul could probably sweep in and steal it all 
away. People would be so disgusted with their choices they'd look for ANYBODY 
else.

More to the point, in the last 5-10 years it seems like we as a society are 
placing far more significance to one's political affiliation as a measure of 
social norms.

When I was younger and especially as a child growing up in a very politically 
active household, I never experienced the vitriol of the likes that we see 
today.

I wonder if it's not due to the various news organizations and talking heads 
that get the masses all whipped into a frenzy.  Especially those who cater to 
people who might be less educated and more susceptible to parroting ideas that 
are not of their own thought process.

It's one thing to have opposing views, but to disrespect another just because 
they think differently from you is something that I have a hard time 
understanding.

If the NRA had any brains at all (I have my doubts lately) they'd embrace this 
as "useful discussion and change" which would give them the shine of being 
"Bipartisan" and "working with the other side" while costing them basically 
nothing.
I have no idea why the NRA hasn't latched on to universal background checks. 
Pretty much all reputable gun sellers are already using instant check now so 
it'd make them able to say "We're part of the solution" instead of "We refuse 
to change anything."

down. As a species we're pretty poor at judging risks. I read a thing the other 
day that said if you poll people they'll tell you how dangerous unprotected sex 
is, where in the real world long car trips are much more likely to get you hurt 
of killed...

More to the point, in the last 5-10 years it seems like we as a society are 
placing far more significance to one's political affiliation as a measure of 
social norms.

When I was younger and especially as a child growing up in a very politically 
active household, I never experienced the vitriol of the likes that we see 
today.

I wonder if it's not due to the various news organizations and talking heads 
that get the masses all whipped into a frenzy.  Especially those who cater to 
people who might be less educated and more susceptible to parroting ideas that 
are not of their own thought process.

It's one thing to have opposing views, but to disrespect another just because 
they think differently from you is something that I have a hard time 
understanding.

Which will do not much of anything to lower the shootings and deaths 
(there are plenty of laws about shooting and killing).


I read the papers around here about the daily/weekly shootings, and a 
lot of the perps and vics have multiple prior arrests, many related to 
guns and robberies and shootings, yet they are still walking the streets 
and carrying and using (illegal) weapons after multiple catch and 
release on low/no bonds, mostly because there isn't enough prison space 
and the #blm folks get all upset when one of them is put away (as 
opposed to "put down" unless it is white on black -- black on black 
barely gets a notice).  Mostly dope/gang related, somebody dissed 
somebody else...


Yesterday half the Charleston PD seemed to be at a location up the road 
when I drove by, appears that two YBGs had a shootout in the street 
there, about 150-200yd from the middle school.  Of course nobody dint 
see nuffin, so they will probably be at it again when it warms up a bit 
in a coupla days.


There are plenty of "gun laws" on the books, enforcement of those would 
do more to cut down on the crime than anything else.  These "common 
sense" laws or regulations or whatever really mostly affect law-abiding 
citizens, which is not generally where the problems occur.  Smoke and 
mirrors mostly...

Theres no real way to know that since private sales are generally not recorded.
Sellers won't need to get an FFL, in mandatory background check states you do 
your private sale through a dealer FFL for a nominal ($10 or $20) fee. Again 
the NRA could be working WITH lawmakers on this to spell out these things or 
they could balk and lose their place at the table which is what they're doing.

I sold two brand new guns to the son of an internet friend last month, for less
than I paid for them more than a year ago.

They're being dumb, its like arguing with a four year old, you're never going 
to win and you lose respect for just trying. By digging in their heels and 
being obstructionist they look consistently bad. Somewhere along the way 
LaPierre and crowd decided they were vigilante cowboys protecting the homeland, 
same with the Republican party.
Assuming Bernie gets the nod from the Democrats I predict he'll win since I'm 
still cautiously optimistic that Trump won't run. If Hillary wins the primary 
all bets are off, it'll totally depend on who runs for the Republicans.
If it came down to Hilary and Trump slugging it out I feel like a moderate 
Libertarian candidate like a Ron Paul could probably sweep in and steal it all 
away. People would be so disgusted with their choices they'd look for ANYBODY 
else.

The pendulum swings both ways. I honestly thought the Republicans would let 
government shut down which would have been the kiss of death for them...
In any rate we the people need to understand that government isn't really about 
doing things, the best times we've ever had were generally during times when 
the government was deadlocked and couldn't accomplish anything. Thats "the 
process" actually at work.
From what I've seen our politicians need to look up the definition of the word 
"compromise".

The public ignorance on this subject is appalling, and BHO did a "good job"
exploiting emotion and ignorance this morning.  The gun show loophole is a
myth.  All gun dealers do the instant background check every time, for that
check is worth (obviously not much).  Universal background checks are
equivalent to universal gun registration.  Federal gun laws are potent and
quite actionable but the Justice Department appears to have little interest
in using those laws to incarcerate violent criminals.  Perhaps the powers
that be need a level of crime (or the perception thereof) for political
leverage (like "fast and furious"?)

Registry, database, whatever you want to call it there has to be some 
well of information to pull from and it can't be free, somebody will 
have to pay for it. Makes some sense to me for the buy to pay a 
relatively small fee, say $10, on each purchase.


They need to register the (relatively) few NON-right holders, not
the gun owners.  If you're not on the list, here's your gun, thank
you and have a nice day.

some well of information to pull from and it can't be free, 
somebody will have to pay for it. Makes some sense to me for the 
buy to pay a relatively small fee, say $10, on each purchase.


They need to register the (relatively) few NON-right holders, not
the gun owners.  If you're not on the list, here's your gun, thank
you and have a nice day.

How much of the education system is truly encouraging
independent thinking?  The system sure has a strong record of
suppressing anything and everyone who doesn't toe the
official line - from kindergarten through doctorate.  

Thus it would seem the well "educated" are _less_ likely to
think for themselves.

progress, R's cry constitutional foul, gun sales and political fundraising and

shootings or domestic terrorism.

Meanwhile, federal deficit continues to balloon, SS and Medicare still going 
bust, ISIL runs rampant, etc.

The public ignorance on this subject is appalling, and BHO did a "good job"
exploiting emotion and ignorance this morning.  The gun show loophole is a
myth.  All gun dealers do the instant background check every time, for that
check is worth (obviously not much).  Universal background checks are
equivalent to universal gun registration.  Federal gun laws are potent and
quite actionable but the Justice Department appears to have little interest
in using those laws to incarcerate violent criminals.  Perhaps the powers
that be need a level of crime (or the perception thereof) for political
leverage (like "fast and furious"?)



The point of the whole carnival act this morning is to try to make 
more citizens into criminals, therefore, either intimidated (thereby 
controlled), or controllable (we won't put ya in prison if ya do 
this) (whatever this is)


The bummer hired the holder.  Bummer is the holder's chief.  The 
holder was/is an illegal g u m runner with the bummer's 
knowledge/insistence. Holder is a criminal; bummer is a criminal. 
Gunrunners are often called thugs.


Therefore, we have the thug in chief.

Did anyone catch the hypocrisy of a g u m runner claiming he has to 
do something about g u m control?


BTW: the media, (including fox) was squawking all day about "closing 
the (imaginary) gun show loophole."  The whole carnival side show is 
lies based on lies based on misconception.


But it is a useful diversion to hide shredding the constitution and 
the ascendence of lenin the younger and dumber.  In one day whatever 
was left of the bill of r i gh ts is pretty much burned.

That's could be good one (maybe) and so might be mental health.  But the
devil is (always) in the details.  More vigorous enforcement of Fed gun laws
against violent criminals would be wonderful.  But harassing dealers and
lawful gun owners about minutia (i.e. a useless and meaningless waste of our
money)  is more likely, IMO.

It depends on which laws. If "increasing enforcement" means vigorously
prosecuting habitual violent criminals I'm all for it. Keeping such
criminals off the streets will seriously lower violent crime rates. Much of
the efforts of the BATFE are directed at generating "scratches"- statistics
that look good on paper but do little to deter violent crime.

I sort of agree with Curt on this...however, I think that the checks should
be instant, free of charge, and done without creating a registry. After all,
voters don't pay to register or vote, and the right to vote is not an actual
constitutional right. Canada proved that firearms registries are very costly
and solve zero crimes.

If the NRA had any brains at all (I have my doubts lately) they'd embrace
this as "useful discussion and change" which would give them the shine of
being "Bipartisan" and "working with the other side" while costing them
basically nothing.
I have no idea why the NRA hasn't latched on to universal background checks.
Pretty much all reputable gun sellers are already using instant check now so
it'd make them able to say "We're part of the solution" instead of "We
refuse to change anything."

When my grandparents were born, communicable disease was the leading cause of 
death.  My kids are going to die from lifestyle illnesses.  All these post war 
advances are making us soft, wasting our cash, and encouraging the socialist 
agenda for a Nanny state.   The poor remain in America, we have just overfed 
them, so they stay calm and down on the farm, not marching in the streets.

population.  Now we warehouse them, costing tax payers billions of dollars.  
Washington decided to computerize the system, which has led to bunches of 
dangerous folks getting let out after spending less than a third of the time 
behind bars.  More civilians armed against violent offenders would combat the 
rise in crime.  Criminals do not have Obamacare

Registry, database, whatever you want to call it there has to be some well of 
information to pull from and it can't be free, somebody will have to pay for 
it. Makes some sense to me for the buy to pay a relatively small fee, say $10, 
on each purchase.

I sort of agree with Curt on this...however, I think that the checks should
be instant, free of charge, and done without creating a registry. After all,
voters don't pay to register or vote, and the right to vote is not an actual
constitutional right. Canada proved that firearms registries are very costly

If the NRA had any brains at all (I have my doubts lately) they'd embrace
this as "useful discussion and change" which would give them the shine of
being "Bipartisan" and "working with the other side" while costing them
basically nothing.
I have no idea why the NRA hasn't latched on to universal background checks.
Pretty much all reputable gun sellers are already using instant check now so
it'd make them able to say "We're part of the solution" instead of "We
refuse to change anything."

Remember "The Super Committee" that was going to fix the sequester? The one

work together as long as you do what I want." Can't place blame on one party 
for that one, both were doing it.
Remember I hate both parties equally, they're all turds, its just the kind of 
turd you get.

I think you are not a dealer.  Your sale at a loss is one of the loopholes.  
Small number of guns sold also exempts.

Seattle idiots voted in a tax on guns and ammo this year.  $25 per gun, 0.05 
per round is what we got.  Guess where the gun shops are going.  OUT OF TOWN.  
With fewer vendors, there is reduced tax, which the sponsors were betting on 
filling their coffers.   The pawn shops will probably decide to get out of the 
gun business.  Stolen guns will come in, while legit weapons become scarce.
