Re: [MBZ] OT: VDO mechanical clock cleaning/lubrication

2021-09-25 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
Had the clock running on a battery for a week or so. It was consistently losing
about 1-2 minutes per hour. Tried the adjustment screw but it didn't make much
difference. Yesterday the clock completely stopped working. Apparently there's
an internal fuse but I had the thought of trying to find a quartz movement to
replace the guts of it. Anyone know of a shop that does that sort of
"modernization" of vintage car clocks?

Other option is to just use that spot on the instrument panel for something
else such as a cylinder head temperature gauge if I can find one. Any modern
radio I might install is going to give me a clock, I don't really need one on
its own.

Re: [MBZ] Okie acres tire disposal

2021-09-25 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
Use your backhoe or front loader to dig a pit, then sprinkle some diesel on
them, then a sprinkle of gas [stale gas if you have it] with a trail out of
the pit... pitch a match on the trail, let the gas fire off the diesel,
which fires off the tires... Then you have a contained fire that you can
bury over when you're done... A tire fire throws off a lot of heat and
smoke, so you might draw someone's attention with a fire call.

[MBZ] 211 stuff

2021-09-25 Thread Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes
The blower quit working a coupla weeks ago so I fooled around with that. Took
it out and lubed it still wouldn’t work Checked a fuse in the footwell that
supposedly was for the fan, it looked ok. I ordered another controller that
came this week so put it in this afternoon. Fan needed help to get spinning but
once going was ok.

I swapped in the old controller and no joy so put the new one back and fan will
work but won’t start spinning. So ordered a new fan. I guess the bad fan burned
out that controller.

Drove the car this morning as it was cool and didn’t need AC. Turned on
headlights and got all kinds of errors for pass side, nothing working. I fooled
around with connectors (and one of them connects to nothing???) but still no
joy. Some research shows there is a module in the…. Footwell! that controls
that side. So I must have buggered it when I was checking the blower fuse. Bah.
Tomorrow job.

Oh, the driver footwell was soaked. We had massive rain a few days ago so I
guess a drain is plugged. Apparently there is one behind the fender liner.
Another tomorrow job.

Must be something in the air today…

Got out in the garage early (6:30) to beat the heat and replace the motor
mounts on the W210 wagon, something I’ve been putting off for months.

Did the passenger side first for the easy win.

Spent over an hour struggling with the top bolt on the driver’s side with no
joy. I’ve got the special offset wrench and everything.

I finally tossed in the towel and moved on to the transmission mount, which
went without a hitch.

Despite only replacing on motor mount, things are much, much better. Not sure
when I’ll take another swing at the driver’s side mount, but…
