Ralink mini-pci express card on Lenovo X60 not working?

2007-07-22 Thread Don Scott

I'm running GENERIC.MP with ACPI enabled (20070719 snapshot) on a Thinkpad X60.
I bought a GIGABYTE GN-WI05GS-RH AirCruiser G Mini-PCI-E card from
kd85.com to replace the stock Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG. I removed
the Intel card, booted the system and ran tpwireless (while docked),
and then installed the Ralink. It was my understanding that the card
would show up something like this:

rum0 at uhub4 port 1
rum0: Ralink 802.11 bg WLAN, rev 2.00/0.01, addr 2
rum0: MAC/BBP RT2573 (rev 0x2573a), RF RT2528, address 00:16:e6:34:09:89

I've tried GENERIC.MP and GENERIC with and without ACPI, GENERIC.MP as
shipped with the 20070719 snapshot, and GENERIC as shipped with the
4.1 install CD, but never saw the Ralink in dmesg.

My BIOS version is 2.10 (7BETC9WW) which is dated 20070418. BIOS
version 2.11 is available, but that version apparently only fixes a
scenario where the system may fail to boot from the cdrom, so I
haven't updated.

Can someone spot a problem with the order of operations I went through
when using tpwireless and installing the Ralink? Any suggestions would
be very appreciated.

Here is my snapshot dmesg and sysctl hw:

hostapd(8): WDS == IAPP ?

2007-07-22 Thread Damon McMahon

Greetings,

In the context of hostapd(8) are IAPP and WDS synonymous? I need to
extend my wireless network which uses an OpenBSD/i386 box with a ral
(4) in HostAP mode and I'd like to do it with something much smaller
and energy efficient such as an Airport Express or similar.

If the answer is no, are there any recommendations for how to do
this? Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Damon

Thanks -- I think ;)

How about the Call For Papers? What kind of topics are sought? It's
often a good idea to have the CFP up when the web page first goes public.

No, IAPP is a protocol used between APs to forward association
details, WDS uses a different over-air frame format with space for
another MAC address (I don't know if that's supported here).

wpi3945 driver bug?

2007-07-22 Thread Lontronics Mailinglist account
I am using the wpi3945 driver with the latest wpi-firmware (2.4.14). When I am
not using my wireless connection for some time, because the laptop is staying
switched on and unused for some time, I do get a wireless time-out.
The OpenBSD is Obsd-current snap 20-07-07, but the issue was already there as
long as I am using Obsd (about three months now).

Is this a driver bug or can it be solved another way?

Don't know X60 but X40 refuse to boot with a non-whitelisted card.
I'd check the card is correctly inserted...

Nut Belkin UPS Problem

2007-07-22 Thread Denny White
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1

I have an old Belkin F6C525-SER ups attached to serial port 1.
When /usr/local/bin/upsdrvctl start runs, it finds identifies
the ups correctly. Also, no problem when /usr/local/sbin/upsd
runs. But, when /usr/local/sbin/upsmon runs, I get:

Broadcast Message from [EMAIL PROTECTED]
((not a tty)) at whatever time run . . .

communications lost to the UPS

Repeat 1st line (Broadcast etc)

A UPS is unavailable (can't be contacted for monitoring)

Below are all the pertinent uncommented settings in nuts config
files.

(snippet from /etc/nut/ups.conf)

I've tried entering different labels here, including the actual
identification of the ups, F6C525-SER along with anywhere else
it's required to match. Didn't help. I assumed this was an
arbitrary setting only mattered in that it has to match in
any other config files it's used in.

I've also tried this without a port after localhost. No difference.
Still doesn't work. I may have misunderstood the docs, but there
were instructions without a port being appended also.

Yes, but these a) aren't used and b) are the values already specified
in the standard PCI power capabilities

From dev/pci/pcireg.h:

/*
 * Power Management Control Status Register; access via capability pointer.
 */
#define PCI_PMCSR   0x04
#define PCI_PMCSR_STATE_MASK0x03
#define PCI_PMCSR_STATE_D0  0x00
#define PCI_PMCSR_STATE_D1  0x01
#define PCI_PMCSR_STATE_D2  0x02
#define PCI_PMCSR_STATE_D3  0x03

I'll look into removing the RL definitions later today.
