Thank you Stefan and Matthew.
Do you use one or two antennas?

Only one in my case.

Until OpenBSD supports 11n with MIMO, multiple antennas will only be used
for diversity which selects one antenna for transmit at a time (generally
based on which one has received better signal from the peer, I believe,
but the exact procedure is driver-dependent).

Always connect both antennas if you want to rule out problems with
antenna selection affecting wifi performance.

I can't advise on the speed or reliability but I have had no complaints
from users (used just for mobile phones which don't show speeds
generally). However the card I mentioned whilst being cardbus/pci and
not pci-e goes over 50m without issue through one wall with windows to
my phone with the access point 3m from the ground indoors.

athn0 at pci2 dev 0 function 0 "Atheros AR9281" rev 0x01: apic 5 int 12
athn0: AR9280 rev 2 (2T2R), ROM rev 22

Works fine with hostap in an old eee 1000HA, although also not exactly high
volume traffic...

Hi,

in the meantime i had tested many miniPCIe-WLAN-Cards (ar9271, ar9280,
ar9285, ar9287, ...) with OpenBSD in HostAP-mode.
But no one of them works reliable, stable and fast.

No i'm frustrated. I'm fed up with ordering, testing and sending back
several cards.

Can someone recommend me a *very well proven* miniPCIe-WLAN-Card which work
stable and fast on OpenBSD in HostAP-mode and have a good range?
Please recommend me not only a chipset but also a concrete
miniPCIe-WLAN-Card.

Which is the most used/recommended card?

This is not an easy question. Not because OpenBSD but because drivers
for wifi cards frequently change due to manufacturer decisions.

Are you looking for an integrated WLAN module, which is placed inside a
laptop?

Or, are you looking for a mini form factor wlan card which is pci express?

I looking for a MiniPCI Express Card in half size format.

Please consider sending them to developers instead of sending them back.

It's unclear what you'd call fast and what range you expect.

A card that reports itself as:
  athn0 at pci0 dev 17 function 0 "Atheros AR9280" rev 0x01: irq 15
  athn0: AR9280 rev 2 (2T2R), ROM rev 16
is working perfectly for me as hostap in 11a mode.
I don't remember what's on its label and I cannot open the box right now.

I don't usually use the AP through more than one wall or within a range
greater than 10m away.
