I would think, though, that beautiful posters will always
be in demand.  Intuitively, there's a point at which the original
actor/actress may become unknown to new generations, but the art will
likely remain attractive to those generations.  And, there's the fact

Yeah, I think that's how I feel too.  I couldn't do it.
Also, the market can absorb a lot of a good thing.  Again,
with first edition books, about 15 years ago, the first two books by a
popular writer were remaindered by a big remainder company.  About
300 of each hit the market at once.  The company limited sales of
two of each per buyer.  The books previously sold for about 200
each.  None were sold other than the remainders for a few years.
Then, while no one noticed, the prices were back to what they used
to be.

Over time, for good posters, new buyers will increase demand and
that will prop up the price I think.  But, I do agree that the must
be let go over a few years.

I would think, though, that beautiful posters will always be in demand.
Intuitively, there's a point at which the original actor/actress may become
unknown to new generations, but the art will likely remain attractive to those
generations. And, there's the fact that the posters themselves could bring
around new generations to the movies themselves. I can't say how many times
I've come to a great movie because of the poster.

Yeah, I think that's how I feel too. I couldn't do it. Also, the
market can absorb a lot of a good thing. Again, with first edition books,
about 15 years ago, the first two books by a popular writer were remaindered by
a big remainder company. About 300 of each hit the market at once. The
company limited sales of two of each per buyer. The books previously sold for
about 200 each. None were sold other than the remainders for a few years.
Then, while no one noticed, the prices were back to what they used to be.

Over time, for good posters, new buyers will increase demand and that
will prop up the price I think. But, I do agree that the must be let go over a
few years.

Nah, destroying any old art/collectible that has managed to survive
into the current era is just flat out criminal. But there's no reason not to do
as many on this list have suggested: Keep a couple for yourself and trickle out
the rest very slowly into the market. This is so obvious you'd think everyone
would understand it -- yet I see people on Ebay all the time listing 4 or 5 of
the same item at the same time and calling it rare in their descriptions.

And then there's this ever-popular Ebay ploy: An item that is
reasonably scarce (but not truly rare) sells on Ebay for a decent price
(usually because no one has put one of those particular things up for a month
or two). Suddenly every seller in the world who has the same item immediately
lists it on Ebay within a few days of the first sale -- all of them thinking
they are also going to get the good price, when in fact all they are doing is
guaranteeing they will not. They think they will pick up the second bidder who
missed the first item by only a buck or two? Not if that second bidder suddenly
sees 4 or 5 of the same item turn up right after he lost the first auction.
What he's going to do instead is wipe his brow and say Whew... lucky I got
outbid on that first auction... I almost paid way too much for one of those.

Re: [MOPO] LIsting Error -- I made a mistake on my GUN CRAZY/DEADLY IS THE FEMALE Insert. . .

2010-08-02 Thread channinglylethomson

I've done some research on Michael's question. From what I can tell,
the movie was originally released on 1/20/1950 as DEADLY IS THE FEMALE
(NSS #50-16). It was re-released on 8/24/1950 as GUN CRAZY (NSS
#277). United Artists was the releasing company on both of these. An
interesting footnote is that the Screenplay was by Dalton Trumbo
(SPARTACUS) but it was credited to Millard Kaufman, who lent Dalton
Trumbo his credit name as Trumbo was under HUAC/Hollywood Blacklist at
the time. I have an e-mail out to Eddie Mueller, the film noir
expert, to find out more about the re-release and the reasons for it.

Dear MOPO Members --

I made a big mistake in my listing on this. This poster is actually
rolled -- it was never restored or backed. I must have used a
template from another insert that was conservation-paper-backed when
initially listing this. For those who do not know, the classic film
noir GUN CRAZY was released twice. The first release was under the
title DEADLY IS THE FEMALE (NSS #50-16) with a 1949 copyright. This
is the rolled insert I am offering. The later, better-known title
of GUN CRAZY involved a release later in 1950 with a completely
different art campaign. Both releases were through United Artists.

[MOPO] FA: Part I of our Summer 2010 Mini/Major Auction closes 8/3; many bargains with 1 day to go great bonuses too!

2010-08-02 Thread Bruce Hershenson
*Part I of our Summer 2010 Mini/Major Auction closes tomorrow night, August
3rd, beginning at 7 PM CST*!

With just one day to go, the 313 items ending the 3rd include 42 that are
still $20 each or under (and even those buyers will get our * bonus
t-shirthttp://www.emovieposter.com/images/specialnotes/20100727_gilda_tshirt_summer2010minimajorauction.jpg
*!), a surprising 85 that are still $30 each or under, an absurd 120 are
still $40 each or under, and a mind-boggling 143 are still at just $50 each
or under!

*GIVEN THAT EVERY BUYER GETS A FULL-COLOR T-SHIRT, AND GIVEN THAT MOST OF
THESE POSTERS ARE CURRENTLY AT HALF OR LESS THAN PREVIOUS SALES FOR THAT
ITEM, THIS SURELY REPRESENTS ONE OF THE GREATEST BUYING OPPORTUNITIES IN THE
HISTORY OF ONLINE AUCTIONS!*

But wait! There's even more! If you are one of the 6,300+ members of our
weekly e-mail club (and if you are not, you can join right now at *
http://www.emovieposter.com/mail/clubsignup.php*!), you get incredible
bonuses if you can find just five items in any of the three parts of these
auctions *COMBINED*, and you get additional great bonuses for every
additional item you purchase up to 12 (if you get 12 items combined in the
three parts, you get nearly *SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS* retail of great book
bonuses!) and we even pay the U.S. shipping (if you live outside the U.S.,
you pay the difference between U.S. shipping and the actual cost of getting
them to you). If you *ARE *in the club, but missed these offers in the
latest club message, you can go to that message at
*http://www.emovieposter.com/club/email.php
* and read the exact details of these great bonus offers.

*AND ALL THIS IS IN ADDITION TO THE FULL-COLOR T-SHIRT EVERY BUYER
RECEIVES*(compare this to those other auctions which give you
* NO* bonuses of any kind, but hit you with a massive 20% or 25% buyers
premium, sales tax in many states, and high, and sometimes outrageous
shipping charges)!

*WHILE THERE WILL SURELY BE MANY ITEMS THAT SELL FOR HIGH PRICES, THERE ARE
ALWAYS SOME (or a lot of) ITEMS THAT GO FOR BARGAIN PRICES, AND SHOULDN'T
YOU CONSIDER GETTING SOME OF THOSE BARGAINS FOR YOURSELF? *When you
consider that you can purchase any 12 items (even the 12 least expensive)
from all three parts combined, and receive approximately $700 retail in
movie poster books (which includes two newly published coffee table books
and the great Children of the Night book, which together retail for over
$100 all by themselves), then doesn't it absolutely make sense for you to
make an effort to buy 12 items and get those items plus all the bonuses for
one low price?

* *Don't forget to check out the* 313 TUESDAY ITEMS (items in Part I of
our Summer 2010 Mini/Major Auctions) * on our website sometime *BEFORE
*they end
*TONIGHT, Tuesday, August 3rd, * beginning around 7 PM CST by going to *
http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/13.html*
*
* And also be sure to check out our *378 THURSDAY ITEMS (Part II of our
Summer 2010 Mini/Major Auctions) *on our website sometime *BEFORE * they end
*Thursday, August 5th, * beginning around 7 PM CST by going to *
http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/14.html*.

Finally, be sure to check out our *291 SUNDAY ITEMS (Part III of our
Summer 2010 Mini/Major Auctions) *on our website sometime *BEFORE * they end
*Sunday, August 8th, * beginning around 7 PM CST by going to
*http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/15.html
* http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/15.html (and we saved many of the
best items for last, including a *GILDA* style B one-sheet, *LAWRENCE OF
ARABIA* pre-awards one-sheet, and *SEVEN SAMURAI* first release Japanese
B2)!

And now you can browse the items in *ALL* of galleries at one time in our * All
Auctions http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/all.html* gallery!

We know that many of you like to wait for the last minute to place your
bids, but remember that if you do that, it is easy to either forget to bid
or to get busy watching several items and miss the end of some or all of
them, so there are also pluses to bidding before the auctions begin to end.
And remember that there surely *WILL* be lots of last minute bids placed, so
just because you have the high bid with a short time to go, you should still
go back to the auction right near the end, and see if anyone else outbid
you, so you have a chance to re-bid, if you choose to.

Good luck on whatever you may bid on in our current Summer 2010 Mini/Major
Auctions ending on *August 3rd, 5th, and 8th*!

I was born in the year that Buddy Holly told Peggy Sue That'll Be the Day
the year that Ymir thought the Roman Coliseum needed remodeling
the year that Gary Cooper was loving Audrey Hepburn in the afternoon
the year that crab monsters were attacking
Kirk Douglas was walking the Paths of Glory
and Alec Guinnes was walking the Bridge on that river near Rangoon
Cary Grant had an Affair to Remember with Deborah Kerr
Elvis Presley was rocking the jailhouse
Toshiro Mifune was facing a Throne of Blood
Burt Lancaster was tasting the Sweet Smell of Success
Marilyn was hanging with a Prince
Incredibly a man shrunk
Joanne Woodward starting talking to her other 2 faces
Hemingway's sun also rose
and the great Charlie Chaplin was a King, in New York and anywhere else!!
