Murder by the Book was one of the best TV shows I ever saw! Of course I
learned years later it was directed by Spielberg, and I thought THAT
accounted for why it was so great, but it wasn't for many more years that I
learned it was written by a young Steven Bochco, surely one of the absolute
best TV writers ever.

Murder by the Book was one of the best TV shows I ever saw! Of

accounted for why it was so great, but it wasn't for many more years

Re: [MOPO] RIP Peter Falk.

2011-06-24 Thread Doug Taylor
My only Peter Falk story was a sighting.

Back in the day, when I was regularly attending the Academy Awards ceremonies,
I had pretty regular routine. I’d always do drinks at the Polo Lounge the
Sunday night before the awards…I’d always do dinner at the Bistro Gardens after
the awards (because Swifty Lazar had his after-party there, in a room
upstairs…I’d always have drinks at Tribeca at some point, and follow it with
dinner at the Ginger Man on the same night.

Anyway, to the point, as you all probably know Carroll O’Connor was an owner of
the Ginger Man and was often there. On more than one occasion I’d go in for
dinner and he would be at a table with Peter Falk and Peter would invariably
have a young, long, tall, buxom blonde on his arm. It made me smile every time
I saw that wonderful little man with a women have his age and twice his height.

my only two Peter Flak stories - I met him once, at John Jay - it was about the
time he announced he was leaving the Columbo series - some one in the group
asked him why? - his reply; Do you like talking to me? - the reply way yes
- to which Falk replied well, how would you like it if I were the only person
you could talk to? -

later on he was talking about his early life - he said he was playing baseball,
slid into home and was (clearly) safe! The umpire called him out - after
arguing for a few minutes Falk said I finally took out my glass eye and handed
to him - I said 'Ump! - you need this more than I do!

Luckily for me, I saw Peter Falk starring with Lee Grant and Vincent Gardenia
