[MOPO] Bonham's Sale

2006-06-27 Thread Flixspix

Michael and Moposties
Enough with the insert Dude. But you will be
pleased to know auctioneer paused to correct listing to make aware to phoners
and people present that piece is graded C minus and please bid as to what you
see and not how listed in the catalogue And then I think it sold to
someone in the room for $300.

Just because no postings on MOPO does not mean you can
gauge its quality. What would you want to hear? That a
lot of pieces passed? Noonly one or two passed I was
aware. Were prices high? No, in fact if you must
know many a dealer were able to procure popular pieces at very,
very good prices. To me that's a successful auction who wants to
attend an auction where everything is high? Sets of lobby cards were
particular stand outs performing well, but still with
potential upsides due to quality and scarcity.

Biggest Surprise? DIRTY HARRY LIFE MAGAZINE
poster around 1200.00 and a Raging Bull signed by Scoresese
and Jake LaMotta 2200.00

Noir was soft but the better Leithold pieces were in previous
auction

Biggest disappointment. While signing in for my paddle
the French UNINVITED sold as the receptionist handed to me.
Nose diving into the auction roomyelling BIDwas to no avail but made
for a spectacular entrance. Damn that poster was really
deluxe,

However, the IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT was
withdrawn due in fact that it was a re-releasefrom I believe
1936surprising two very experienced dealers I know
well.Rudy,that qualifiesas a major screw-up,not
your usual oversight. I haven't a clue who noticed or how it was
determined. Still an amazing onesheet.

Regarding IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT reissue: it's a mistake that an even an experienced collector might make reasonably, but it's not a mistake that a major dealer should make.  The sources for the correct information are there if you ask around.Kirby McDanielwww.movieart.netOn Jun 27, 2006, at 12:09 PM, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Michael and Moposties Enough  with the insert Dude.  But you will be pleased to know auctioneer paused to correct listing to make aware to phoners and people present that piece is graded C minus and please bid as to what you see and not how listed in the catalogue  And then I think it sold to someone in the room for $300.   Just because no postings on MOPO  does not mean you can gauge its  quality.   What would you want to hear?  That a lot of pieces passed?  No  only one or two  passed I was aware.   Were prices high?  No,  in fact if you must know  many a dealer were able to procure popular pieces at very,  very  good prices.  To me that's a successful auction who wants to attend an auction where everything is high?   Sets of lobby cards were particular  stand outs  performing well,  but still with potential upsides due to quality and scarcity.    Biggest Surprise?  DIRTY HARRY  LIFE MAGAZINE poster  around 1200.00  and a Raging Bull signed by Scoresese  and Jake LaMotta  2200.00   Noir was soft but the better Leithold pieces were in previous auction   Biggest disappointment.  While signing in for my paddle the French  UNINVITED  sold as the receptionist handed to me.  Nose diving into the auction room yelling BID was to no avail but made for a spectacular entrance.   Damn that poster was really deluxe,   However,  the  IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT  was withdrawn due in fact that it was a re-release from I believe 1936 surprising two  very experienced dealers I know  well.  Rudy, that qualifies as a major screw-up, not your usual oversight.  I haven't a clue who noticed or how it was determined.   Still an amazing onesheet.    freeman fisher8601 west knoll drive #7west hollywood, ca90069 Visit the MoPo Mailing List Web Site at www.filmfan.com ___ How to UNSUBSCRIBE from the MoPo Mailing List Send a message addressed to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] In the BODY of your message type: SIGNOFF MOPO-L The author of this message is solely responsible for its content.Visit the MoPo Mailing List Web Site at www.filmfan.com

MOPO has proven to be a great policing technique/source for fellow
  collectors.

Towards that end, i announced my experience with the STRANGERS ON THE
TRAIN insert. But for me, Bonhams would have ONCE, AGAIN, misled
absentee bidders. While it was reported here that it sold for a mere 300
because of its horrible condition, if it were not for me, some innocent
absentee bidder would have paid a lot more. Bonhams NEVER would have
changed the rating from "A-" to "C-" if it werent for me. And people
relying solely on the catalogue never learned of the downgraded rating.
HOW DARE I BE CRITICIZED FOR DEMANDING HONEST GRADINGS OF POSTERS when the
seller has been shown to act irresponsibly, previously?

MOPOers have a long track record of demanding DISCLOSURE, DISCLOURE,
  DISCLOSURE.

Bonhams does not have a "no questions asked" return policy". I had
toexpend needlessenergy to have my money refunded---despite the
grossly inadequate description. I guess flix has never been burnt.
Once burnt, you act more cautiously.

Freeman, I bid on the UNINVITED poster. I was so stupid! I should have gone higher. It was linen-backed, framed and in great condition. It only went for $400. What was I thinking?! 2006-06-27 Thread Michael B

freeman,, igot a few private emails, already, criticizing yourpost. it is okay

and I hardly made 15 posts. but, if it take 25 posts to get the message across, so be it.

i coulnt bid with them this time, since i am an absentee bidder. i was burnt by them, and they tried to get away with their scam description on the same poster, again.

screw me once, shame on you. screw me twice, shame on me.

honorable sellers that disclose actual conditions gain momentum in time:these sellerscontinue with a strong repeat customer base.

Michael,
I wasn't criticizing your experience with Bonham's, or your frustration or the steps required for a refund. Notonedisparaging remark to that effect.

It was that out of the blue you brought up the insert once again. And that had to be your 15th posting on the matter. And tothat I was having a malice free chuckle, a guffaw..but immediately I then recognized to all that your efforts werein fact taken seriously and the auction was stopped and an announcement made, solely, and I haveno doubt by your effortsand that should have been pleasing to you.

But really the posting wasn't about you.

Re: [MOPO] Bonham's Sale !!!

2006-06-27 Thread JR

Michael,

Yeah, but dude... you've made your point several times... several messages
back... they corrected their misstatement in the catalog while the auction was
going on as best as they could. Yes it was due to your commitmentthat they
did that and that's been acknowledged. No, it shouldn't have happened in the
first place, much less the second.Nor should the mistake over IT HAPPENED
ONE NIGHT once several well-respected members of the community pointed out they
had some problems in this regard -- yet it wasn't pulled until the last second
on the floor. Rumor has it someone at Bonham's may have gotten the ax over these
bad mistakes, but I don't have first hand knowledge of that. But,
anyway...enough is actually enough. When something is done and all the
points have been made it's time to walk away and move on and let the subject
drop.
