Re: [MOSAIC] Reading and Writing Continuums

2011-05-24 Thread Patsy Brown
Mary, If you go to this website, you can download publications that can be used
with parents: http://lincs.ed.gov/
I have used A Child Becomes a Reader with K-1 parents. You can also order
the books from The National Institute for Literacy for free. I think they are
out of books now, but they should have more in the fall. I give one to all my
K-1 parents in the fall. I have also used Literacy Begins at Home: Teach
Them to Read with parents of preschoolers. The Shining Stars publications are
also useful.

I just want to take a minute to speak to all of you on Mosaic. I have taught
reading over 30 years and will retire next year. I have been so impressed with
the questions/help/answers that you have shared on this site. I am proud to be
leaving a profession to people who are interested in acquiring knowledge to be
better teachers for our children in spite of cut-backs, furlough days, and all
the negative press teaching gets. You spend your own money, use your free
time, and willingly share information with each other.YOU ARE THE BEST! I
have been blessed to mostly read and browse your conversations.
Thank you,

be continuums that define stages of reading/writing development and provide
specifc descriptors of what a child can do at these stages.

You may be able to obtain free hard copies of the following titles by
contacting ED Pubs at their website though supplies may be limited:

You can order the publications from the National Institute for Literacy from

Check out Fountas and Pinnell. You can find their books on the Heinemann

Hope this helps. This is my first time ever responding.

Re: [MOSAIC] Reading and Writing Continuums

2011-05-21 Thread Conner-Righter, Mary
I have that book, but the continuums are a little different from what I'm
looking for. I'd like to find a continuum that could be shared with
parents...here is the approximate stage where your child is reading...here
is what her reading and writing is like in this stage...show examples of
student performance to relate to the descriptors.
Just curious, how do you use the F P continuums?

Thanks,
Mary
