I'll try your new changes

Yes, seems the code I used in window was too modified when I tried to
localize the bug

Used cross compiling with original code and it's running ok in windows.

Re: [MSEide-MSEgui-talk] Bug in msebufdataset.pas

2012-04-11 Thread Julio Jiménez
Hi.

Array concept zero-based? not in objectpascal.

Why the first element must be 0? You usually think first=1, second=2
first=0?

I know there are lots of arguments about starting in 0 or 1 or whatever and
I don't want to start a 'war' because it.. My point of view is to follow
fpc/fcl direction.

Cheers

Re: [MSEide-MSEgui-talk] Bug in msebufdataset.pas

2012-04-11 Thread Julio Jiménez
Probably there is a mix of concepts.

When I read recno I understand item so first item is 1, second is 2..

Another thing is offset, in this case first element has offset 0, second
1

That's the main reason I understand for recno first element=1
If you rename it as recoffset then it's ok starting in 0.

I'm not sure the one-based recno is a relict from Borland-BDE. Objectpascal
does not enforce you to start an array index in 0, 1 or whatever. C
language does it.

Of course this is only my point of view.

Cheers.

Wahono, I like your effort in porting MSE to SDL, but I have a doubt. When
finished... will Martin integrate it in MSE or will keep it as a separated
project to be maintained in paralell to MSE development?

Thank you!

[MSEide-MSEgui-talk] Possible bug in tdbwidgetgrid

2012-12-27 Thread Julio Jiménez
Hi.

I have noticed a weird behavior using tdbwidgetgrid.

If you click a cell, the selection is ok(the first time you do click), but
then if you click on another cell in other column or in the same row, the
selection shows an empty value. If the field is of type integer it shows 0
instead of the value stored in the database. If the field type is string
then it shows an empty string. If you click cells in the same column, all
is fine. The same happens if you use left/right arrow key to navigate in
the same row of the tdbwidgetgrid.

I can reproduce it in linux and windows. Using FPC 2.6.0 and MSEgui trunk.

Well, if you want to play a DIVX movie, you need the DivX codec.. probably
Windows Media Player is not the best player out there for other formats
different than M$ ones. Try any 'true' player ;) (like VLC) and don't
worry about video formats. There are lots of players.

You also can convert the video to the desired format... google for video
converters...

Video info:

Input #0, avi, from 'mse_demo.mpeg':
  Duration: 00:02:03.72, start: 0.00, bitrate: 1455 kb/s
Stream #0.0: Video: mpeg4 (Simple Profile), yuv420p, 1280x910 [PAR 1:1

   2.32 A-V: 0.000 s:0.0 aq=0KB vq=5KB sq=0B f=0/0 0/0

So you need mpeg4 codecs. Most of players have support for it.

No problem. Thank you.

The problem with cloned unit still persist. My PDF project (used in my

cloning it is not working with MSE.

[MSEide-MSEgui-talk] tsequencelink incorrect value assignment

2013-03-20 Thread Julio Jiménez
Sequence value is generated before tmsesqlquery.beforepost so if you cancel
post a value in the sequence is lost (unassigned)

I think the correct is to generate it after post and if the value is null
(dataset field value)

[MSEide-MSEgui-talk] About tmsesqlquery datasource propery

2013-03-20 Thread Julio Jiménez
What is tmsesqlquery.datasource for?

I have read mse db components are a fork of sqldb components. In sqldb,
zeos, ibx... this field is used for a master->detail relation but this mode
isn't working in mse

I know mse has tfieldfieldlink and tfieldparamlink, but simply assigning
datasourde of master dataset in detail dataset it easy.

Thanks.

Re: [MSEide-MSEgui-talk] tsequencelink incorrect value assignment

2013-03-21 Thread Julio Jiménez
I have no problem in generating sequence value and avoid this 'issue' (in
fact I used sequences in mseide before the component was created). I was
only pointing out what other database components like ZeosLib and IBX do.

If the purpose is that the fileds values are complete in onbeforepost, then
it's ok.

Thanks.

Yes of course. The same code is working in Lazarus. It complains about a
field name not existing in master dataset.. when that field is in detail...

Detail sql looks liket:

Select id, idmaster, name where idmaster=:id

and id is the pk in master dataset

Because you say it works for you, I'll try again... may be I did some
mistake...

Testing again and not working.

Master dataset name is clientes.

Sql = select * from clientes order by denominacion asc; primary key is
ID
Data sourde name for clientes is clientesds

One of the details datasets

Name: idcli
icli.datasource = clientesds

Sql = select * FROM INCIDENCIASCLIENTE where idcliente=:id;

idcliente is link field in icli id is primary key in clientes

The error is:
Clientes: Field not found: "idcliente"

weird, because field idclientes is not in dataset clientes (master), it's
in detail

[MSEide-MSEgui-talk] Problem with trealedit

2013-06-26 Thread Julio Jiménez
Hi

There is a problem with trealedit. It doesn't allow to use the locale
decimalseparator for input.

Example.
Coutry Spain (DecimalSeparator is comma ',')
MSEide trunk
fpc fixes_2_6

I place a trealedit on a form. It shows values using DecimalSeparator.. for
example 1,23 1,01 but if I try to input a value in this way, it
complains about ie '1,2 ' ss invalid. If I input 1.2 all is fine but not
correct in Spain.

Curious if you press the decimal dot in numeric keyboard, it replaces the
dot by the comma, that's fine... but trealedit doesn't allow it.

How do you deal with this?

Thanks

Intermediate code? something like CPython? A virtual machine like Java,
C#...? What about performance? usually intermediate code is slower to
execute. Will be the existing code compatible?

Yes Borland did a great job even when Delphi was full of bugs :D

So, may I think you are unhappy with the direction that FPC is following or
simply you think can make a better tool?

You know, Pascal community is not big and dividing efforts is not probably
a good idea. Probably you have your good reasons to take this decision, I
still think it's probably a big work for only one developer.

As Freepascal user, I'm a bit worried because actually I can share code
between FPC, Lazarus and MSEide applications with very little effort and
probably this will change if you take a different way.

I have MSEide and Lazarus applications running in production, with very
good results. With different compilers... who know what will be going on.

I'll stay tuned :)

[MSEide-MSEgui-talk] Object Inspector. Editing memo text issue

2013-07-03 Thread Julio Jiménez
Hi

On objectinspector, editing text in the memotext dialog window, doesn't
allow to press Enter/Return key, because the effect is clicking OK button.
As workaround I use Shift+Enter/return key.

Is this as designed? or simply a side effect because OK button is active by
default.

Thanks.

There are lots of reports about EXA issues. I can fill a bug report, but
probably you are more indicated to do it. You know how MSE interact with
xrender in deep ;)

About NOUVEAU xorg driver... I'm unable to make it working properly.

Not using skins is a temporal solution, but still getting issues. You can
try it enabling EXAPixmaps in radeon (IIRC you have ATI card). run MSEide
with -ns option, open Configure MSEide dialog... do click in filenameedit
widgets.. you'll see graphics corruption of just a gray rectangle filling
the widget... That's why asked if these widgets use skins or fades...

ATI open source drivers (radeon) working fine:

- Use radeon.modeset=0 (this makes radeon using another hw acceleration
than EXA)
- Add Option EXAPixmaps off to your xorg.conf, xorg.conf.d config file
First option is the best for old ATI cards (IMHExperience...)
Second choice is working in all my ATI HD* Cards

[MSEide-MSEgui-talk] About xrender and stretched bitmaps + EXA + Linux issues

2013-09-18 Thread Julio Jiménez
Hi all!

After several years, it seems that the problem still persists. My
observations:

ATI AMD proprietary fglrx graphics driver: all is fine.
NVIDIA propietary graphics driver: all is fine
Radeon xorg driver: using EXA is fine if you disable EXAPixmaps. If you do
not use EXA is ok too.(Of course you suffer a performance degrading)
NOUVEAU: The only computer I have tested, with a GeForce 8400 GS.. a total
headache. (using skins with bitmaps, fades...)

In computers with this problem, you can run MSEIDE with -ns option and all
is mostly fine but if you click in a fileselection component (like MSE
config dialog) you still see artifacts even with no skin option (-ns) do
these components use fades/skins...?

I wonder why other toolkits like Gtk2, Cairo, Qt don't show this problem.
Perhaps they use their own implementation for stretched bitmaps.. dunno.

I would like to know how other MSE users deal with this issue.

Thank you!

Re: [MSEide-MSEgui-talk] About xrender and stretched bitmaps + EXA + Linux issues

2013-09-19 Thread Julio Jiménez
I have observed that if you switch from one working area to another, when
you return all is rendered fine, It looks something related to
refresh/invalidate. I haven't tested if invalidating the widget may help...

Yes, that's why I asked if you were using fades in tfilenameedit
components... (mse config dialog).. with -ns it shows garbage (see the pics
attached to the bug report)

I wonder if it's really a bug or it's related to xrender usage... but if it
works with propietary drivers.. and with open source intel drivers too so
may be a issue related to ati and radeon open source drivers.

2013-09-19 Thread Julio Jiménez
I got it working fine using nouveau driver too.. just had to disable thee
hw acceleration.

I added to xorg.conf

Section "Device"
Identifier "Nouveau"
Driver "nouveau"
Option "NoAccel" "on"
EndSection

Like for EXAPixmaps "off" there is a performance penalization, but this is
better than nothing and the affected computers are used for work only :D

So it seems the issue is related to graphics acceleration, not only EXA.

Now only left to wait for a FreeDesktop developer ;)

Cheers

Re: [MSEide-MSEgui-talk] About xrender and stretched bitmaps + EXA + Linux issues

2013-09-21 Thread Julio Jiménez
Hi

The true problem is the artifacts when using EXA acceleration. I'm not
going to use VESA son I didn't want to waste time investigating why it
detected and dropped the true monitor resolution and fall to 1024x768. As I
said it was probably because no xorg.con supplied and this will be fixes
setting the proper modeline in xorg.conf. This was a try when using
nouveau.modeset=0 to avoid KMS. For some ATI cards, when you use
radeon.modeset=0 it drops EXA and uses XAA and all is fine. You have MSEide
working and your radeon card uses hardware acceleration.

To make NOUVEAU working, you have to drop HW acceleration for the moment.
If you are lucky and your nvidia card is working fine with nvidia
propietary drivers.. then you can use it. From my experience some nvidia
cards + propietary drivers = nightmare.

The bug has been reported, only left to wait :)

Thanks.

2013-09-21 Thread Julio Jiménez
What I did in the mean time.

For ATI cards.

Added file /etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf
content: options radeon modeset=0

Added to xorg.conf (or your xorg config file...) Device section:

Option "AccelMethod" "XAA"

in this way, I have MSEide working fine and have hardware acceleration. 3D
performance is worse than using EXA but 2D is really fine. My perception is
that it's faster using 2D than EXA. (XAA was the old and working
acceleration method)

Haven't tried if nouveau supports XAA

I hope this helps other MSE users.

Cheers.

I forgot to say XAA was dropped in newer xorg versions, still working in
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and Debian 7.

For new xorg versions, disabling EXAPixmaps or disabling acceleration is

Yes.. of course ;) almost everything is in a library.. but it's standard
library. Abs in pascal is also in a library (System unit) is not part of
the language.. like almost every thing.

I'm not sure but probably stdlib.h is in every C implementation out there.

Probably I'm wrong in the concept. Compiled by default doesn't mean is part
of the language IMHO, you also can apply the same to abs in C language
stdlib.h

curious.. you can read http://www.freepascal.org/docs-html/rtl/system/

...The system unit contains the standard supported functions of Free
Pascal. It is the same for all platforms. Basically it is the same as the
system unit provided with Borland or Turbo Pascal

standard.. like standard lib in C

I was only responding to your sentence:

"abs() does not exist in C (you can of course do a simple #define macro
for that)."

You don't need to define abs in C, just use stdlib.h, this is what I wanted
to say.. :)

found problems using some DLL 32 bits in windows 64 (exactly windows 8.1).
The x64 version of the program with x64 DLL are running fine.

I prefer 32 bits versions, but mates want 64 bit too and every day there
are more 64 bits hosts out there.

Yes I knew it. It's for Lazarus compiled for win64 not for FPC ;)

I use cross compiling from linux to win32 and win64 and no problems as
suggested in your link.

Its fixed in fpc trunk (2.7.x series) but MSEide doesn't support it for the
moment. There are also problems with lazarus 32 bits when using libs
compiled without * -mstackrealign* IIRC (reported for Ubuntu 14.04 and
Lazarus GTK2 i386) this doesn't mean nobody is going to use Lazarus for
i386 because it.

computers running 64 bits OS and probably you need to keep an eye on it.

probably the language itself is not the most important. There are lots of
programming languages out there. The 'batteries included' concept is
probably more important than the language itself. I mean the rtl, fcl

I follow FPC mailing list and I know what you mean. I think you all have
different criterias. Is like when I suggest something for MSEide and you
say... 'I don't need it' ;)

Well, you'll find opinions for both sides. Is like to choose between Kde or
Gnome... ;)

I think that all (FPC, MSEide+MSEgui and Lazarus) are great projects and of
course, is not a waste of time to take a look at them.

I hear this here and there like a mantra. GTK2 is not probably the faster
widgetset but for client applications it does it work. I have desktop
applications in production developed with MSEide and Lazarus (gtk2 and QT)
and I don't see performance issues. All are instant ;)

Really doesn't emulate. It has his own widgets implementation and they are

MSEide+MSEgui is not problems free too... this brings me the Open Source
graphics drivers EXA problem and the last issue with Ubuntu 14.04.

I mean your opinion is ok, but others think different and I think fpc devs

A 6-7 years old laptop is old enough? ;) I don't speak about benchmarks, I
speak about real desktop client projects (in production). Of course in some
cases (like intensive graphics rendering) where gtk2 performance wouldn't
be acceptable.

from 1 ms to 2 ms difference 100% but for a user filling a form the bottle
neck is the user itself ;)

And why not asking to gettext/xgettext developers to add
Pascal/ObjectPascal support to it instead of hacking mseide? IMHO

from man xgettext:

 GCC-source,

I can't find 'Pascal'.

May be I'm wrong but you were talking about changes in pascal way of
contstruct strings applied to MSEide (#10...by char(10)) And I see you are
trying to use Perl as language for xgettext.

>From my side, I don't care if the IDE is translated or not. I prefer
english as it is, even when english is not my native language. I have
doubts about the assertion of translating it will attract more developers.
Some times is difficult to translate an english word to a desired language
because it doesn't exist on it and at the end those english words are
incorporated to the language.

Cheers! :)

I forgot to say that this project (MSEide+MSEgui) is being developed by
only one person, Martin. I understand he has their own preferences and
because the time is limited, he has to choose his own decissions giving
priorities and probably his priorities aren't our priorities :)

I guess you can package MSEide+MSEgui as it is.

when you set EXAPIXMAPS off is almost disable hardware acceleration too.
