Moskow 2024 review with lots of screenshots at:

  http://www.aamsx.org/rev_moskow.php

 In the review:
This game DOES NOT run on MSX emulators.

 Is that a challenge?

 Bye,
   Maarten

Why doesn't it run on MSX emulators ?

Is it the overscan trick that's causing problems on emulators ?
Because that's just a matter of time.

It does not run on emulators mainly because of the extensive usage of VDP
interrupts. For example, the number of simultaneous colors in the
screen: 64. This is achieved by changing the palette during the screen
retrace.

No, that's the facts. It's not just because of the overscan, but also
because of the 64 simultaneous colors in the screen, the PSG routines,
etc...

This extensive usage is a very good compatibility test for any emulator.

NLMSX has no limit on the VDP interrupt usage, and palette changes are
processed on the fly. So it should not be a problem. Except for some
overscan trick, if it is used.

NLMSX does have a line based VDP emulation which could cause a problem
when you are changing the palette colors on every line.

Are there some demos that use the same features ?

There are playable promos of Sex Bomb Bunny and ARK-A-NOAH in aamsx.org,
so you can test them on NLMSX.

Metal Limit, available on funet doesn't work either on any emulator I tried,
for the same reason I guess?

Mailinglist maintenance

2000-09-29 Thread Maarten ter Huurne

Hi!

It turns out that due to a technical problem at Stack, the delivery errors
from this list weren't sent to Wynke and me. Today it was corrected and we
were once again rewarded with a large stream of delivery errors.

Anyway, we'll be deleting addresses with delivery problems in the next couple
of days. In the unlikely event you suddenly don't get any mail from this
list anymore, please alert us ([EMAIL PROTECTED] or [EMAIL PROTECTED]).

Bye,
Maarten

Laserdisks with MSX

2000-09-29 Thread Saku Taipale

Hi,

As some of you know I have been working long time with MSX and
Laserdisk player (more than 1.5 years). Now, at last about 24 hours
ago I could first time control the Pioneer LD-700 with Pioneer
Palcom PX-7. So, now it's confirmed that you can use LD-700
player without problems with Pioneer MSX1. If you have PX-7 and want
use LD-player with it, you can buy LD-700 from USA or Japan.
At least in USA these old players are cheap, but shipping will
not be. Anyway, if you have Sony HB-G900 series computer, you can
use for example LDP-1550 player with it.

Before I can play my MSX LD-games I still need NTSC-RGB converter,
does anyone have spare device, or would someone change NTSC PX-7
to PAL model?

Greetings: Saku Taipale, [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Overscan, advanced use of PSG (PCM replayer, etc.) ..

Just take a look on www.moskow2024.com and see the specs

PCM replay via PSG is indeed a major problem for many MSX emulators. As far
as I know, only brmsx can properly handle samples on PSG. But I do not know
in which state the MSX2 emulation of brmsx currently is.

Ps. within a couple of month, fMSX 2.2 Unix edition will support fm-pac via a
softsynthesizer emulation. I'm currently porting a fm-pac driver that was
developed by Hans Guijt for fMSX Amiga. I will put the new driver on the fMSX
section of "The MSX Plaza" once it is available and send a message to this
list.

Kind regards,
Alex Wulms

BrMSX cannot emulate 8bit PCM replaying as far as I know .
This kind of sound is achieved by using a calibrated table to change
the volumes of the three PSG channels.
