Expensive? Less than 150 euro! How cheap can it get!
For that price, I would almost want to buy two :).
Its even cheaper than the Nintendo DS, and for that price you get a small
computer which you can fully customize and program for! And you finally
get some new hardware to replace the old that is about to break down
(well...).

~Grauw
I thought for these 19800 yen, you only get an update to turn the onechip
MSX into a onechip MSX2. It's not the price for the hardware. Both would be
spectacular, though :) If it IS the price for the hardware, it's very cheap,
if it's the price for an update to MSX2, that's also spectacular, coz I
thought MSX2 wasn't supported yet :)

I've been asking myself the same question, I have no problem with 12 fps at

 2) how much big the eva file can be? max 32 Mbytes or less?

I've read the disclaimer and these kind of texts can only be written by a
bitter human being, frustrated about certain things in life. It's way over
the line and to be honest, I don't understand it either. I know Hans a bit
and he is a peaceful nice guy doing fantastic things regarding MSX
documentation. This is though the second time I don't get his behaviour. I
recall his continuous threats of leaving #msx and the MSX Mailinglist and
then log in to these mediums again by using an alias.

Patriek, I think it would have been better if you hadn't written your
message to the MSX Mailinglist. You're exposing certain negative sides of
another MSX lover to the whole MSX Mailinglist and that's wrong. It would
suit you more if you would act wise, smile if Hans makes such remarks and
just live on..

I agree with Richard too. Don't we have better things to do then this?

Re: Release MSX Player

2002-06-04 Thread Anne de Raad
Hoi Bernard,

bespreken?

Ik zou je daarvoor erg dankbaar zijn.

Groet,

Anne de Raad

I agree with Patriek. The MSX scene is one of the most friendly scenes I'm
in. Period. Therefor I think some people in this list are a bit overreacting
at times. I think discussions are good. Ok, they shouldn't get TOO personal,
but let's please not act as the most decent moral knights on this planet.
IMHO threatening to leave the MSX-mailinglist causes more problems then the
statement you are trying to make. With threatening you overemphasize the
situation way too much and it could eventually escalate from then. Love and
(relative) Peace (but also a bit of discussion)!! We're not the MSX

2001-09-23 Thread Anne de Raad

Don't you think taht is exactly *because* there is a Spanish list too?

I think every group with something in common, for example a language, has
the right to have its own mailinglist. I'm sure there is a spanish MSX
mailinglist, there is even a spanish MSX newsgroup, if I recall correctly.
Of course there are japanese MSX mailinglists and newsgroups. Considering
this, it is actually quite remarkable there isn't a dutch MSX-mailinglist or
newsgroup. I see this as something great. It shows dutch people are prepared
for the new world order in which english will be our premier language. I
think it just would be very wise for all other people to LEARN the English
language, instead of focusing on their own native language.

I can express myself better in Dutch, so I think Dutch MSX mailinglists or
newsgroups would indeed be interesting. However, the MSX scene is already
very small. Let us please try to unite all MSX-ers around the world. The use
of the english language therefor is absolutely necessary.

Anne's interpretation. And that would make the revival/survival of MSX
much
more difficult. So do not remove it please!

or at least... not for now... yet.
(that probably isn't very correct english but you should get my point)

It bothered me a bit already that Hans redirected my words into 'my
opinion'. I decided not to react on it. Now Laurens is copying Hans' part
and reacts on it. I DO need to say something about it now

Actually, I will quote myself:
Message from Anne de Raad, 23-4-2001, 8:26 about the sheets published :

'Seriously, I don't want you to take them offline. I don't see any harm in
publishing them. It is actually quite interesting for the people who weren't
there. I ONLY want to tell you what the japanese people thought of it.'

Please Hans, could you mind this statement before you conclude I want
everything off the web? You're message was from 23-4-2001 at 16:11, so you
read my quote above already. I only want to give the list the view of the
japanese on this subject. www.msx.org did a wise thing and took the sheets
offline already. Let me put it this way, it will stabilize and improve our
contacts with the japanese MSX community.

If your view on my opinion was about the ROMs and other copyrighted MSX
software only, then you are right. I really think we should take all the
copyrighted MSX software offline. Just to TRY to get the MSX PLAYER a bit
popular. As soon as those old games become commercial interesting again and
the copyrights 'revive' a bit, we should learn something from the past. We
should stick together and try to convince everyone it is for the sake of MSX
that the software will only be available via the official ASCII MSX server.
Yes, ASCII will make money that way, but ASCII will also see that the
MSX-system is something they should go on with. I assure you, when the
emulator fails, we won't see any new MSX..

Re: Report of Nishi's lecture updated.

2001-04-22 Thread Anne de Raad

Hoi Bart,

sheets.

2001-04-22 Thread Anne de Raad

Sorry for the Dutch message on the list. It was for Bart in private, but now
it's on the list. Actually, that's ok, coz the content might be interesting
for everyone. ;-)

In english, I just warned Bart for publishing the sheets on the internet. It
could be that ASCII or Nishi is not that happy about publishing his sheets.
They are copyrighted.

Distributing sheets for a lecture does not imply the right to publish them
on the internet. The japanese told me Nishi probably will think it has some
sensitive 'company info'...

So, I DON'T say you should not publish. I just say you have to take care a
bit. It might be not what Nishi wants us to do, but I'm not sure about this.

Of course I know it would not be realistic to think we can keep it private,
I just wants to make clear what the japanese (not Nishi) think about it.

Greets,

Anne

p.s. The reason why I sent the mail to the mailing list is probably coz it's
now 1:28 and I just returned from the meeting from todayI'm pretty
zzzpy.ARgh...;-)

Hmmm, here I state that ASCII will be giving more attention to ROM-images on
the internet. With the MSX server coming, they probably want it to be very
hard to get your roms illegally. I stated the MEP closed down just in time.
You should understand this well, though. I didn't want the MEP to close,
because it has done many great things for MSX. The emulator section is just
fantastic. The large software archive also was great, I myself ordered the
MEP-cd. I just think that with the MSX server coming up, we, the MSX users
should help ASCII and take ALL the ROM-images etc. offline. When we do that,
the MSX server might be a success. ONLY if the emulator and the server will
be a success, the new MSX indeed will have a change of seeing daylight. I
think that when the emulator will not have success, the Nishi/ASCII project
will still go on, but it won't have anything to do with MSX anymore.

Re: Idefdisk 3.1

2000-09-24 Thread Anne de Raad

Please explain me the instructions step by step.

1) Copy MSXDOS2.SYS, COMMAND2.COM and FDISK.COM (v3.1) to an MSX
DOS2-formatted Floppydisk and start your computer pressing DEL on
startup...
2) Start fdisk 3.1 with the fat16-option, so type 'fdisk /fat16'
3) Display partitiontable and delete ALL partitionsTo be sure
4) Move with the cursor to the first line and choose Add partition. Then
type the size of the partition. Watch it, you have to type sectors and one
sector is about 512 bytes
5) After you have typed i.e. 6 (which gives you a approx. 30mB
FAT12partition) you move the cursor down to the second line
6) There you again choose Add partition. It now shows how many sectors are
still available. Just type this number and a FAT16-partition is being
created.
7) Go back to the main menu and choose the option with which you can WRITE
the created partitions
8) Then choose the option with which you can ENABLE all partitions.
9) Reset your system and copy MSXDOS2.SYS and COMMAND2.COM in BASIC from
your diskdrive to the FAT12-partition (probably your A-drive)..So 'copy
"c:command2.com" to "a:" C: is floppydrive in this example
10) Rebooting will get you into DOS booted from drive A.
11) To access the FAT16-partitions you have to load FAT16.COM every time you
start upSo put this in your AUTOEXEC.BAT or something
12) Also remember you have to patch COMMAND2.COM to make the filehandling
correct with FAT16-partitions. Therefor you need to execute PATCHCOM.COM
only 1 timeNo need to start this program again and againJust do it
once

Hopefully this will be of any help. It worked for me! ;-)

configurationI want to use the FAT16-filesystem

Because of the fact OKEI's patchcom.com doesn't work on Dos2.4x I use
Dos2.3xI have created a FAT12-partition and a FAT16-partition on my HD
using the new Fdisk 3.1...I copy MSXDOS2.sys and COMMAND2.com to the
FAT12-partition...

But every time I boot the system I can't execute programs from the
FAT12-partition. I constantly get this 'Wrong version of MSX-DOS'
systemmessage...

I have tried so much already, but I can't solve itPLEASE, can anyone
tell me what I do wrong?

Thanx in advance.

Re: IDEstuff

2000-09-20 Thread Anne de Raad

Yes, it would be nice that someone that knows Japanese can translate these
 webpages
 into English.

Hi,

No need for doing that. Just browse to www.elingo.com and you can translate
Okei's page without any problems

It seems so you have to use patchcom.com to patch command2.comAfter
patching this ONE TIME DOS2 will handle size of programs and diskspace
correctly..

Second of all, you will have to use FAT16.com (current version 0.08) EVERY
TIME you start up your machine. FAT16.com is the actual driver

Of course this all will only work I you have installed IDE Bios v2.01

Please anyone correct me if I am wrong. I am planning to go to FAT16 this
weekend.hehehe

I agree with Rieks. I just think the Japanese have a different way of
looking at the three letters MSX. You say that during the last 17 years this
wasn't a topic. I agree with you and it surprised me very much. BUT,
consider, back in the 80s Europeans had to deal with Matsushita Sony

means MicroSoft eXtended was SO much easier

I think we are both right. Here in Europe it is Microblabla, but don't
underestimate the fact that in Japan MSX IS SEEN as Matsushita Sony
X-machine...

Re: more japanese news

2000-07-06 Thread Anne de Raad

I do neither, but I do know there is no direct connection between Suzukawa
and the participating groups. And my own impression is, that Suzukawa
tends
to be a little negative in some ways. There were some problems with the
distribution of Kyokugen in Europe as well, which all other participating
members of the project didn't really understand. But I don't know. He has
a
point in saying that most of the article is about the problems that are
being faced in the development of this 'new MSX'. But those problems are
only being discussed in order to create a view in what stage the project
is
at the moment. Nothing is said if they think it will become difficult or
 not.

Well Rieks, do you really think Takamichi is wrong? You and I were both
there when those Japanese were here in Holland. What do ya think. Are they
damned serious or are they some flipped fanatic MSXers with idealistic
dreams which they think can become reality?!

Re: What MSX really means

2000-07-04 Thread Anne de Raad

The message that people in Europe (and how about the rest of the world,
Brazil for example) are not really interested in news from Japan is
however
coming from one of the people on this list. He reacted to my original
message
by saying that people are not really interested in the kind of news from
my
original posting (what MSX stands for). And in the same message, he made
the
remark that it seems like people from Europe are in general not really
 interested in news from Japan.

Yep, that was me...

But if you look at this entire threat that spun off my original message, I
would say that people are interested. They only do not always speak out
their
opinion, but sometimes suddenly everybody starts to talk, like this time.

And that was exactly why I replied to your message in the first place. I was
hoping to get a threat like this. It sometimes helps to say things a little
bit more 'firm' then necessary...Learned it from Johan
Cruyff.hehehe...

First of all I would like to say that I truly hope there will be a new
MSX.
But in order to make a new MSX I think it is wise that groups work
together
 to achieve this goal.

Do you think Japanese companies have interest in the view of some small
groups in Europe? I don't think so. Yes, Sunrise is very important for MSX,
but it's just a group of amateurs, nothing more. The only thing that may
interest e.i. ASCII is some hardwaredevelopments like ATA-IDE or
Moonsound...Only to save the costs and use the schematics for their own
development. Really, if there are companies in Japan interested in MSX
again, they won't need our help...

Re: What MSX really means

2000-07-04 Thread Anne de Raad

Then why coming to a Dutch fair and talk about Sunrise/ Padial not showing
much interest? This does not make much sense. Anyway, this discussion ends
here as far as I'm concerned. Let the Japanese show us what they are up
to.
For now I think we can better pay some interest to the new harware Padial
 has made for MSX.

You're right, this disusscion could end here. I would like to add 2 things
though. First, I have the feeling the Japanese themselves are not 'on one
line' if it concerns these new MSX-developments. Secondly, they seem to be
interested in Europe but I think only to get a complete 100% image on the
global MSX-situation. I assure you, for the things they try to achieve, they
don't need Europe.

Anne

p.s. I also think Japan overestimates Sunrise.Rob and his guyz are very
cool, but if MSX gets serious again in Japan, they would need a stronger
european partner...Rob would go nuts if he should carry this weight...I am
not sure about this, but I thought Ikeda himself told me Sunrise isn't
interested in new MSXThis would be a very wise decision

Re: What MSX really means

2000-07-03 Thread Anne de Raad

I heard stories (Anne, can you verify this one for me?) that MicroCabin
once
 wanted to translate
some Cabins to English and sell them in Europe, but nobody seemed to be
 interested.

Yes, this is true, Microcabin showed interest in the European market. So did
i.e. Hertz (Hydefos, PsychoWorld)This was in the period when we as
Flying Bytes sold a lot of European products in Japan using the
TAKERU-system. In those days, we had some interesting contacts with some
'major' developers for MSX. Microcabin was one of them...We told them not to
go on with it, though...The market was no longer there in Europe at that
time...

For what concerns the new MSX. The japanese visitors to Tilburg2000 spent
the night before the fair at my place. I together with Rieks were the first
persons to hear Yokoi's story about this new MSX (also for Ikeda this was
new). As far as I understood Yokoi well, this new MSX is just a matter of
time. It is about 100% official there WILL be a new MSX on the market.
Strange thing is though that it will be a computer like the turboR..But with
some more RAM and some other minor developments. I discussed with Rieks
already that this 'new' MSX should bring much more then what Yokoi told us.
It won't impress you guys at all!! It still is an MSX. In Japan, they seem
to think REAL different. They see MSX as a computer which is easy to use and
to program...They think even in these days, people want such a machine...I
have my doubts, but that's what they say in Japan...

Something about that PS2...YES, that indeed is almost a homecomputer and I
am VERY happy with that...It has a CPU and a VIDEOchip which are not to be
replaced. This means we can measure certain achievements on the system
again. It is not a matter of putting a better graphics card and I can show
more then others. It becomes again a matter of programming...Maybe the days
of impressive demos, games are near again!! I am sure that if the PS2 is
being sold together with some EASY to use OS, I WILL try and program things
for this system. It seems very cool to me

It would surprise me if people have interest in this story, Alex... I posted

MSX in fact means 'Matsushita Sony X-machine'...People didn't react at
all...I think it's too far from their beds or something...The European
people and esp. the Dutch don't react at all on Japanese MSX-news.Quite
interesting, psychically spoken

The rumours about a new MSX in Japan are getting stronger every day and yes,
you see some 'talk' about it in this mailinglist and the newsgroup, but you
would expect it would get MUCH more attentionMaybe the 'technical'
mailinglist talks more about this matter...I am not subscribed to that one,

 - Maybe some trying with the timer settings should help

These options should be somewhere in the drop-down menus
Else there might something have gone wrong with downloading (or the disk)
so
 maybe try downloading again

Yes, this could be the problem...I have trouble loading some MID-files,

Unfortunately, I know of only 1 program which allows
MIDI entering and afterward editing of the music:
SoundTracker Pro and *that* one sucks BIGTIME! :-)
  (Haven't tested Meridian, yet)

 I'd like to test Meridian

Well, DO IT!! I have read the discussion for a while now and I don't
understand why you haven't tried Meridian yet. It is FREE and you can
download it at the FUNET-ftp-site..

You will need an MSX2 with DOS2 and at least 1Mb-memory..It supports
MSX-MIDI, but also the interface of the MUSIC Module..

Thanx to the 'deltasteptiming' you can create 4/4, 6/8 or whatever you
like.

The problem is at the moment, there is no manual yet.The possibilities
are enormous, you just have to figure them out yourselvesTip: USE A
MOUSE and while playing, press BOTH buttons at the same time, you will get
nice menus and you can edit while playing the songs..Also, the
record-functions work fine for me.Although some keyboards do give
problems. The whole program isn't bugfree yet. We're working on a new
release which should be much more stable.

Have fun!!

Re: Externe synthesizer aanspreken via Music Module...

2000-03-31 Thread Anne de Raad

I'm thinking of hooking up an external synthesiser (or PC soundcard in
this case) to the MIDI output on the music module. I've already tested
it once with the ROM that's build in the music module and it seems to
work (piano sounds only though). I was wondering whether there is some
kind of other MIDI related software for MSX ?

Hello!

I have already read a few replies to your mail and Meridian is indeed the
program you are looking for. It's a deltasteptime midi-sequencer from Flying
Bytes.Right now, it is more a project of one man, Michiel de
Vries..I support Michiel in the development so you can ask me all your
questions

Right now, the program gets in a definite state. We still have no manual
though and that's quite a problem. There are so many options, you can't
figure them out all without a manual

One tip though, use the mouse!! Pressing both mousebuttons while playing
songs give you many submenus while playing. You can change
programs/banks/velocity etc. etc. while playing the song!!

Of course you can edit songs, save songs as *.MER-files but also as normal
*.MID-files.You can also play/record realtime on your
masterkeyboard...

And guess what?!!?!? MERIDIAN IS FREE

You can download the latest version at funet!! So go there and download, if
you want.

Fw: Harddisk and CDrom drive under MSXDOS2

Try to put your partitionized MSX HD into your PC.
Maybe the PC can read the partition table made by IDEFDISK, then copying
 is
  simple and fast

H, my pc can read the FAT12-partitions, so copying FROM MSX HD to PC
is
easy..PC can't write on the partitions though.

Re: Snatcher translation

1999-06-07 Thread Anne de Raad

If you select '0' again, you get the text 'Please input your name'.
After inputting a new name for the main character (whose name
normally is Gilian Seed (I can't help it; I always thought his name
was Garian, as Gilian is a girl's name actually and if you listen to
the Snatcher hearing soundtrack, this name is pronounced as
'Garian'. But, when you transcribe the katakana-name, you
definitely get 'Gilian'...), you will get the following text:

I have the original MSX-version of Snatcher and when you look in the manual
you see that our main character is introduced as GUILIAN SEED.Just
wanna let you know.

Greetz,

Anne de Raad

p.s. Snatcher really deserves a good translationAnd it doesn't HAVE to
be an original Snatcher with english texts. A translation on paper would do
fine already, or maybe a complete NEW (MSX or PC)-program which does nothing
more then showing english translations of Snatchertext. I think this could
be done more easily then making a complete english version of Snatcher...The
Japanese characters are more compact then the european ones, we would miss a
lot of the storyline, I think...Everyone has more then one computer
nowadays, so a different program which you can run besides playing Snatcher
is an option, I guess..

Re: msx2 horizontal scrolling..

1999-05-08 Thread Anne de Raad

Why should it be a trick?! Using the VDP-register 18 you can scroll
horizontally, but only a few pixels, it is the registers which in BASIC can
be controlled with VDP(19) Maybe more familiar, the SET
ADJUST-command uses it...

And the reason the border isn't flickering, well, I guess they put some
black sprites there, so no one sees the copying..

It is just a matter of copy and scroll...

Anne

p.s. And yes, of course, vertically is so much easier. Not to speak of
the V9958

Re: IDE-problem

1999-05-06 Thread Anne de Raad

I had the same problem with a HD using an IDE with 74LS04 chip. However
with the new version (that includes 74HCT04 chip) not problem found!
Your IDE interface has 74LS04 or 74HCT04 chip?

I just bought my IDEinterface in Tilburg at the SUNRISE-stand.. I can
believe they sell the NEWEST version, don't they?!!?

I have some problems using the CIEL 4 slot-expander on TR.
'Old' versions of IDE interface doesn't work on slot-expander inserted on
slot 2. If I put the slot-expander into slot 1, then I got 'not enough
 memory'

Now, with the new version (74HCT04) the IDE interface works fine ONLY if
I insert the expander into slot 1 of TurboR

Well, I don't know. At least thanks for your help and suggestions!! I will
see which version of the IDE I have. Although I can't imagine they sold me
an old interface..

Re: IDE-problem

1999-05-05 Thread Anne de Raad

I checked it, but I couldn't find any error!

You were right after all, it was a matter of Master and Slave.. My
ZIPdrive works just fine now!! Thanx!!

I do have another problem right now...Of course it probably is just as easy
to solve, I can't help I am such an ass.. :)

I have connected ONLY a cdromdrive to my IDE right now... The CDROMdrive is
on Master, Slave is empty... My IDE interface is in slot 1. When I boot my
computer, it finds a CDROMdrive in master, Slave nothing found So far,
everything normal, I guess..

But now what happens?!!? My turboGT boots in the TAPEBasic (so to
speak)And I absolutely don't press SHIFT, which has the same effect...
In this BASIC the floppydrive is NOT there, 'files' just gives an illegal
function call and here I sit with nothing..

BUT!! When I insert my slotexpander in slot 2 and the first subslot my
SCSI-interface and I boot, again the IDE-interface finds in Master a
CDROMdrive, in Slave nothing, then the SCSI-interface takes over and DOES
find my HDCOOL.Then booting is absolutely normal and also my
Floppydrive is found...

Okay, what to do now?! Try the UTILITIES John supplied for handling the
CDROMdrive!! But DAMNED, it does NOT work They are all called JDSxxx.xxx
etc. etc. and they all do NOTHING AT ALL.I can press the PAUSE-key,
so my system is not completely DEAD but I can't do anything
anymore.Resetting is the only option left...

What on earth am I doing WRONG here..Please help.

Anne de Raad

p.s. I bought the interface on Tilburg, last 24th of April I downloaded
the utils from the SUNRISE-site I have the newest BIOS (1.91) in the
FLASHROM.

Thanx in advance!!

If I insert the IDE interface in slot 2, it has the same effect..

Hello Jon,

Nice to get a reaction from you! And thanx for the fast answer!
Maybe it helps to say that I work on an MSXturboR GT..I have tried it a

the ZIP-drive in Slave or Master or whatever, it does not work yet...

   Bye, /\/\ark
Eh. This is what MSX is about. Having fun together. If you don't like
it, don't read it. There is a DELETE button on your keyboard.

Greetings
Robert, Hideo and YUM

I agree completely with Robert, this is just what MSX makes all the fun, at
least, it was the reason I loved MSX for over the past 14 years. Just having
a blast with fellow MSX-nerds!!

And by the way, we DO say interesting things When you followed our
discussion, you have learned Hideo Kojima is the man behind Metal Gear
Solid, a great PSX-game. He also made the original versions on MSX. Another
character, Masahiro Ikariko, is the most brilliant musiccomposer ever
lived.. He made all the music for the MSX Konami-classics as Solid Snake,
(SD) Snatcher and many, many more.

Be glad this mailinglist gets messages. When I log into a commodore or pc
newsgroup, it takes me hours to download all the messages and that's just
great fun..The more messages, the more activity...

I really don't get it. We want the MSX-world to stay alive, and when we have
such a 'discussion', people start pissing and say we have to be
serious...

Downloading this messages really don't cost that much time...

But okay, we'll stop and with pain in my hart, I say goodbye to my closest
friend Robert 'Hideo' Vroemisse-Kojima YUM...
