[Nighthawk Lovers] Re: 80's NH Brake feel
Also, make sure you start with the caliper on caliper on the opposite side of the master cylinder, then the other. I heard you could wrap a rag around the lever and the grip and zip tie it after bleeding the brake lines which also helps with brake response. [Nighthawk Lovers] Re: Questions about engine heat.
I let it cool down and then started it and did the big horrible of revving it, then shut it off and then tried to start it again and it cranked like it used to before it waited for parts. Starter motor and clutch was supposedly replaced before I bought it, which doesn't rule it out as being the problem but thanks for the focus. The "alternator" on them sucks. Below a certain RPM the electrical load is still net negative. If you've let it sit for a while, and then only take it on short rides, or slow rides... sounds like an empty battery. Easy to diagnose, jump it from your car when you know it has trouble starting. If it immediately fixes the problem, the problem is your battery is either drained, or, because it spent too much time drained, permanently weak and needs replacing. If it's not that, then I have no clue. Actual engines are black magic to me. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers!" group. Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] Questions about engine heat.
I agree with Graham, that sounds more like a classical problem with the starter motor. When hot loose power. Usually a simple rebuild will fix the problem. My general advise to any owner of a cb700 is to be particularly careful with the starting system, because if the starter clutch goes bad, it becomes a very serious issue. It's located at the bottom of the engine, and replacement requires a complete tear-down. Javier. [Nighthawk Lovers] Questions about engine heat.
I recently replaced the spark plugs, exhaust gaskets, rebuilt the clutch slave, replaced the gear shifter cover gasket, gear shifter linkage seal, oil pan gasket and the gear indicator seal. No leaks as of right now, but the motor is having problems turning over after a short ride, due to the engine being hot. I also noticed that the valve cover on the front, above the headers is starting to leak and that the engine seems to be hotter. The CB700 seems to be running better than it did before, but when I stop it seems to be wanting to not turn over. My question is how does one know if the exhaust gaskets are sealing properly? Is it just my two year mark on the battery and time to replace it? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers!" group. Welcome to the group. The 82 750 should have 2 pipes on each side so that appears to be aftermarket. Otherwise is looks pretty clean from what I can tell in that pic. -Kyle On Wed, Oct 18, 2017 at 8:51 AM, Roger Vallvewrote: > I just picked up a 1982 Honda Nighthawk 750, I live in Hamilton, Ontario. > I attached the pic from kijiji ad. > The purchase is a bit of a nightmare so far. [Nighthawk Lovers] New Owner
I just picked up a 1982 Honda Nighthawk 750, I live in Hamilton, Ontario. I attached the pic from kijiji ad. The purchase is a bit of a nightmare so far. First the buyer and I lost the keys when we moved it with u haul trailer. Getting it rekeyed. Now the buyer can't find the right side of owners permit for transfer of bike. He is working on getting a new permit, so he says. It gets better, I broke my thumb fixing my other bike! Can't ride yet. That is 3 so I am hoping things improve from here on. The bike has one exhaust, I don't see any name on it. Is it aftermarket or original? Pictures pending Plan: -Repaint motor -touch up paint on gas tank and a few other bits -change oil -change oil filter -change air filter -clean it all up. -tighten all bolts etc Long Tern Plan: -add engine guard -new grips -new handle bar maybe -upgrade dash lighting to LED -upgrade headlight -rebuild carbs -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers!" group.
