[Nighthawk Lovers] Gas tank filter.
I know this has been posted before, but I can’t find it. What’s the best way to remove the gas tank filter that’s situated where the petcock screws in. Is it possible to remove without damaging/scrapping it. I need to seal the inside of the tank, so I need to remove the filter. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers!" group. [Nighthawk Lovers] Loss of power.
I rode 15 miles to see a friend, the bike ran really well. On returning, the bike lost power after 750 yards and came to a halt. I started it again but it was running really bad, would not rev. I managed to crawl along at 20-30 mph, but when climbing hills it would cut out. I opened the choke and this helped but still I had to crawl along. It felt like the bike was on 2 cylinders. Sounds like a fuel problem, any ideas?. I have an in-line fuel filter and I was wondering if this wasn’t helping the fuel supply. Also, what are the advantages/ disadvantages of eliminating the vacuum hose from the carb. The bike is a 1996 cb750. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers!" group. [Nighthawk Lovers] Re: Speedometer
My speedo wasn’t working, the speedo drive at the wheel was the problem. Inside the drive there is a thin metal disc that has two indents that the drive locates in. Mine was split. I brazed it together and now it’s fine. Also, I tested the speedo itself by inserting a cut off screwdriver into the cable at the wheel end and using an electric drill ( in reverse ) proved the speedo was working. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers!" group. Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] Re: 1996 RC42
Hi Graham. No, all standard parts. I think the European bikes had different tanks than the US bikes. I did have to repair/replace quite a few parts and then spray the blue bits and the wheels. The original colour was green, but I prefer the blue. My daughter has a Ford Focus ST that is this colour. I liked it so much that I used her cars colour code. Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] #4 cylinder not firing
Hi Graham. I misunderstood what you were saying. As I previously said, I haven’t used a sync tool before and I thought that each carb had a screw that was taken out and replaced with a screw in rod that was then attached to the tubes from the gauges. I now realise that only three carbs have these screws. So now #2 gauge goes straight to the little tube that the petcock vacuum tube would usually attach to. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers!" group. 1996 750 NH. Hi Guys, hope everyone is ok. The bike appears to running on three cylinders nders. #4 cylinder appears to be not firing. 1996 750 Nighthawk. I dismantled the front brake master cylinder a couple of months back, but left it as I’ve been doing various other things to the bike. I’ve bought a rebuild kit for it but I’m confused about a certain washer that is in the kit. In the diagram ( 13 ) shows the replacement kit. The washer that sits in front of the circlip, does it sit in the same bore as the piston seals, or in the same bore as the circlip. I’m confused because if it sits in the circlip bore then it covers up the circlip groove. https://images.cmsnl.com/img/partslists/honda-cb750f2-seven-fifty-1996-t-francekph-fr-brake-master-cylinder-cb750f2_bigecw3m11f__0401_4d1c.gif -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers!" group. [Nighthawk Lovers] Fuse block
1996 N/H. The flasher switch on the handle bars wasn’t working. I decided to take both left and right hand switches off and clean them. After replacing them, the flasher switch was working but the starter switch was dead. Also, turning on the ignition switch there was no red light, no indicator light and no main beam light. The light switch is working ok but no starter. I’ve checked continuity and that’s fine but on checking power feed it appears to be a problem with the 30 amp fuse block. There’s power from the battery to the fuse block, but nothing coming out. The fuse is ok, even tried another fuse. Why would cleaning the switches cause these problems. [Nighthawk Lovers] Running on three cylinders.
I tried to remove the carb bowl today but the bolts were really tight and it looked like the Phillips head was going to strip, so I didn’t go any further. I started the bike, but it ran really bad. I touched the manifold pipes and 1 and 3 were hot, but 2 was warm and 4 cold. I then noticed that fuel was coming out of number 4 where the header meets the engine. I replaced the exhaust a few weeks ago and after starting the bike a few times, they needed re-torquing. The nuts on all four pipes needed tightening. Started the bike again and it ran better. Touched the manifolds again, and again 1 and 3 were hot and 2 and 4 were also hot but not as hot as the others. If the problem is the carbs then I’ll take them off and inspect. [Nighthawk Lovers] Running on three cylinders.
1996 750. I bought this bike as a winter project last year. The bike did start, so I’ve been concentrating on bits and pieces that needed some work. Tried to start the bike last week, but it wouldn’t start, so I started looking through previous posts on this site and decided it was probably the petcock. I sucked on the vacumn pipe and the bike started, so I stripped and cleaned the petcock. The bike now starts ok, but it’s running on three cylinders ( no 4 not working ), I replaced the spark plugs and tested them and they all have a spark. Any ideas guys ? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers!" group. Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] Re: Replacing exhaust
I now have the exhaust back on the bike. Using Graham’s ratchet strap idea on the mufflers, I then placed a trolley jack under the exhaust. I fitted the headers in position and then gently jacked up the exhaust. This lifted the exhaust up, but more importantly, it also pushed the system back and I was able to eat the muffler bolts in place. One of the problems that I had on previous efforts was the centre bracket. I eventually left the bracket off and fitted it after all of the bolts were in place. It’s the first time I’ve fitted an exhaust to a Nighthawk, struggled at first but got there in the end. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers!" group. [Nighthawk Lovers] Re: Replacing exhaust
Hi Guys, I’m having trouble refitting my exhaust. I used the ratchet method (great idea) and fitted the headers in place, but the other fittings don’t line up for the bolts to be inserted. I pretty sure it’s the middle bracket that’s the problem, the one that is attached to the bottom of the engine by two bolts. Should this bracket be (when replacing) attached to the exhaust and offered to the bike,or fitted to the engine and then offer the exhaust up. I spent three hours this morning trying to fit this with much blood, sweat, almost tears and lots of swearing. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers!" group. [Nighthawk Lovers] Replacing exhaust
Took the exhaust off to sort some problems, I am now ready to put it back on. It’s a 96 750. What’s the best way to put it back on the bike. I had trouble taking it off by myself, the middle bracket that attaches to the crankcase ( 2 bolts ) seemed to stop me from moving the exhaust forward to clear the frame. I took this bracket off and then managed to remove the exhaust. When replacing, do I attach this bracket to the exhaust and offer the complete system to the bike, or bolt the bracket to the crankcase and then replace the exhaust. I must admit, I’m not looking forward to this. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers!" group.
