[No Thirst Software] Re: Basic Question....

2009-03-05 Thread Kevin Hoctor

Brett,

If you pay early, MoneyWell will treat it as a graph entry on that
date but your cash will still flow right. In other words, if you take
out $50 for lunches on Feb. 27, that amount will stay removed from
that bucket when March starts.

You only need to allocate early if you don't have enough money in your
buckets.

But what this example: I pre-payed my kids school lunch for the whole
month of March on Feb 26th. I don't want to tell MW/spending plan to
start early just for that, right? and i don't want to forward-date
the transaction to 3/1 rather than 2/26 either, right? And i can't
simply drag/drop the transaction on the bucket and expect it to deduct
from my March budget for that bucket.

 thanks.

how do I account for this in MW? My Mortgage bucket for this month
has a blue dotted line around it in the graph because i've allocated

[No Thirst Software] Can't delete bucket

2009-03-05 Thread Arnie

I imported all my categories from Windows Quicken to start using MW. I
have two Income Bucket (Income Bucket and Inc. Bucket) I want to get
rid of Inc. Bucket but I can't. I tried using the Delete Button and I
did not have Delete Bucket when I went to the File drop down menu. I
even moved all of the Inc. Bucket entries to the Income Bucket and

Hi Arnie,

Hold down the Option key as you drag your Inc. Bucket to your

Make sure you click the Accounts title to select all your accounts
before selecting a bucket so you can be sure that you have no
transactions in them and then look at the bucket detail to make sure
there are no money flows. You can remove money flows with the -

have looked and looked. I would like to be able to:

 1) Flag the transaction that I temporarily put in to adjust my
 account;
 2) Begin going through ALL my statements and flagging each one that I

Perhaps others would find a use for this as well. Perhaps to mark an
important transaction to match for when it clears? I don't know.

 What do you think?

Maybe it could be toggled on and off from the menus. *shrug*

Hi Dave,

I am reviewing adding a way to flag transactions. There have been

No, it won't see it but if you are starting your cash flow on Mar. 1,
you should exclude from your starting cash amount any pending

No way (other than changing the transaction date) to make the graph

Honestly, if you always pay this at the end of the month, it will show

You don't have to delete all the memorized transactions, just make
sure that you have the correct alias set for generic transactions. In
other words, if you have generic payee names like CHECK or ATM
WITHDRAWAL simply create two memorized transactions with those payee
names and MoneyWell will add an alias with the same name. Now uncheck
all the memorized saves for bucket and other fields and they will
import fine without any problems.

A future version of MoneyWell will give you a better way of handling
these.

[No Thirst Software] buckets and categories

2009-03-05 Thread makani

I am currently evaluating MoneyWell, and loving it so far. I have
long wanted an app that could automatically import my transactions and
do envelope budgeting. They all have had only one or the other.

Here's a situation I have (that I doubt is unique to me) and the way
to address it is not obvious to me, so I'm hoping someone can help.

I am a self employed computer programmer. Currently I have what I
call a Work budget, that includes new software, hardware, books,
travel expenses, and food. This has worked well for me what the
perspective of not overspending. However for tax purposes, I need to
have individual subtotals for some of those things. In my current
financial app, I simply use Categories and Sub-Categories -- easy
enough (the tradeoff of course is complete lack of budgeting).

Now I am attempting to do this in MoneyWell. But what I want do I
cannot seem to. Ideally I would have one bucket, called Work, and
then be able to label individual transactions with a given tax
category. The best I could see was to use a Memo, which I would
rather reserve for details about what it was (name of the book or
software, etc.). And it does not appear to that you can use Memo to
group by for reports (which makes sense, just limits it's value for
what I'm trying to do).

So... any suggestions?

Hello,

MoneyWell allows you to assign buckets as tax-related so you can print
out tax specific summary or detail reports. If you have both a
personal and a work budget, I recommend creating two MoneyWell
documents and keeping those separate. I do that myself. I have a
personal MoneyWell document and one for No Thirst Software.

Will this work for you?
