It's definitely a cool exhibit. Went there today... and in addition to large
prints of the pics shown on the website, are the even more interesting contact
sheets from other photo shoots, where you see the innocent and very camera shy
Prince trying to pose for the camera.
There are shots with closed eyes, goofy smiles, 70s disco thumbs up gestures,
etc. Fascinating!

Well I don't think you're too far off. I did spend the 2 bucks to
download Guitar from 3121. You had to have a login, password and email
address. Why would you need that info to download one song. So to
speculate, he may be building another database. He knows only the
diehards are gonna download 1 song for $2. Plus the fact that when 3121
did the start up, old NPGMC members did get advance notice and a password
for pre-sales to the first few shows.

Just like the wind blows, it's all in the air with what Prince may or may
not do. We'll just have to wait and see which way the wind is gonna blow
this time.

So very well put Derek and I've been feeling the same way. The Superbowl
performance is not bittersweet because of the sad occurrence. So many
people at work kept asking Did You See Him and all I could think was that
one of our has gone into the Purple Rain. No wondered it rained that night,
one of ours had ascended to a Heavenly plane.

You chat, joke, meet at concerts and sometimes you speak for years and never
eva see this person. But the Prince Community is always there with open
arms when a call for help, need goes out a social dynamic that most people
would never understand. But even though I never met Melinda, my heart is
heavy.

And don't yall take this the wrong way, but pray for the person in the other
car too. I can't imagine it easy to know whether it was an accident or not,
you were involved in the loss of a life.

Peace yall,

Have to agree with that. Would preferred a download of this, especially after
the superbowl performance.

Maybe on CD? Finger's crossed.

I just heard it He played Watchtower which goes into The Foo Fighters
song. Sounded good. Then Howard said they were supposed to speculate as to
whether Prince would play that at the superbowl and they said they don't
care
BUT, Howard did say that no matter what Prince plays he always get the
chills and that this weekend he was watching the tape of when Prince played
that solo at the Rock N Roll hall of fame (the beatles song at the end of
the show) and how beautiful and unbelievable it was and that Prince is
totally underrated as a musician and what a great guitar player he was.
That was it

Susanna

Moderator: Yeah, Howard is very complimentary when it comes to Prince. He
goofs on him like anyone else, but he has a real respect for his musically
talent. I think he would roll out the red carpert for Prince if he ever did
the show. I tried to record it but for some reason I could save the file as

Subject: NPNY: Meeting Tevin Campbell

I met Tevin Campbell tonight! I was walking with my friends Ashlene and Sumeet
down 8th Ave, past 52nd (NYC). Ashlene spotted a guy walking into a Rite Aid on
a nearby corner, and called out, Thats Tevin Campbell! I didnt believe her,
so I chilled outside while Sumeet and Ashlene went inside to scope it out.

Ashlene is a huge fan and has been trying to get in touch with him for months
now (she's a journalist and has interviewed lots of singers, including Sumeet:
http://www.ashleneonline.com).

A few minutes later, Sumeet calls my cell and says it's Tevin, and that they're
talking to him inside. So I went in, and they had stopped him as he was buying
some ice cream to take back to his apartment.

I took a photo of Ashlene and Tevin from my cell phone camera:
http://www.soundvillains.com/tevinashlene.jpg

We went to a Starbucks with Tevin across the street and talked for about 20
min. Really nice guy. Lives in that area of Manhattan.
Ashlene is prob going to do an interview with him and put it up on her site
soon.

Anyway, it was a funny little random story, so I thought I would share it! I
dont think he gets recognized much anymore... except by Prince fans, of course.
:-)

Here is quick outline of what I was considering:
 - 30-60 Minutes bi-weekly or monthly
 - News/Rumors
 - Album Review Roundtable [where 3 or 4 other join me]
 - Concert Reviews and Information
 - Associated Artist - News, Information
 - Song Analyst
 - Listeners Submissions [Prince themed articles, peotry, etc.]
 - Emails/Voicemails Feedback

What do you think? Anything you would add take away? Anyone interested
in contributing, I am probably going to need a co-host for this. Don't
like the idea of talking to myself Hehe [Anyone want to audition?]

Below is the poem I wrote:

Inspiration

Inspiration running through my mind,
of all the wonders I have yet to find.
I had a love,
but she left me behind.
I thought I was her one and only,
isn't life so unkind.
I try not to think of pleasure,
I try not to think of pain.
I wish I had my baby back to love me all over again.
You tell me,
what the hell is pleasure?
You tell me,
what is pain?
When I find myself crying,
and walking in the rain.
Oh! Lord I can't stand the pain!
Please let me love again.

I wrote this for Prince as he has always been a inspiration to me when it came
to writing my intimate poems. Yet the subject of this poem was a young man I
met in Germany, who was in the military. He was there for RR. We use to write
poetry together. He was sent to Viet Nam, and was there for only 3 days before
he was killed. He was my soulmate, that was in 70. It took me until
82 to
really love anyone else. So my poem is about a lost love.

We went to see Corinne Bailey Rae at The Bowery Ballroom a few weeks back...I
definitely dig her voice...VERY Norah Jones if you like that style of singer.
She just needs to have chairs for her performances...anyone remember Norah
Jones at The 2002 Celebration? Good stuff just laid back and mellow.

Also, her last choice of soundtrack for life...Erykah Badu's Mama's Gun...that
is in my top 10 and has definitely been a part of my life soundtrack.
Anyone who hasn't heard it...go! now!! Get it!! And don't sleep on Green

I'm not counting out Tamar just yet until I hear the album, (I'm sure if it
wont be released a bootleg or two will float around somewhere lol), I liked
Red Head Stepchild. However for those looking for some good music check out
Corrine Bailey Rae, her voice is smooth and velvety and her songs deserve
attention. Here is a QA session from Netscape Entertainment News.
QA With Corinne Bailey Rae
With her self-titled debut album already a Number 1 hit in her native England,
Corinne Bailey Rae is set for similar success in North America.
Her single 'Put Your Records On' is quickly becoming one of the songs of the
summer and the buzz surrounding 26-year old Bailey Rae is earning the
singer-songwriter comparisons to Norah Jones and even the legendary Billie
Holiday. She took some time out from her hectic schedule to speak with AOL and
answer a few questions about her music.

You are a new artist to many people, but the reality is you've been doing this
a while haven't you?

I feel like I'm a new artist to everybody really because I've been making
music for a really long time but in the most underground level possible. I've
been doing about a gig every month for the last ten years. I've never played
like every night for two weeks like what I'm doing at the moment. It's a
different experience totally. I was in a band since I was 15 and I did that
until a couple of years ago and also during that time I sang in these soul and
jazz clubs and bars at university and a little bit part-time when I finished
my degree. I feel like I've done a lot of gigs and I've written a lot of
music. I feel like I'm just coming into my own now. I was really lucky that
someone picked up on what I was doing. It's just new, it's really new, it's
kind of hard to believe it's all happening. It's only been about 5 or six
months.

You say you've been lucky. Were you always looking for a deal?

I was always looking for a deal even when I was 16 I was in a band, we just
wanted to get signed. If we could have got signed and not gone to university
we would have done it. I think it was the culture at the time, that grunge
thing, that indie thing. You know you don't have to be a really talented
virtuoso guitarist. It's just about simple songs, rawness and emotion. It was
all about being able to hold the attention of a crowd. Everybody wanted to be
in the band and everybody wanted to make it in the industry tour and have
albums out

In your music there's a particularly strong visual element. Can you expand on
why that is?

I feel that like 'I'd Like To' [from my album] is a song I can always sing
with a smile on my face because I can remember all those summers. I remember
what the blanket looked like, I remember what our old barbeque used to look
like and what our old garage used to look like. It puts me back in that place.
I do like to make my songs visual and evocative. I try to use all the senses
in all the songs 'cos I just think it helps to stay in your mind more. I just
like describing things.

You have an indie rock background and you've also played in many jazz clubs.
How have you managed to avoid being put in a specific genre box?

I think nowadays there's less of a thing about genre 'cos of the iPod thing
and also because of hip-hop sampling. You can get a sound from the dawn of
time up until yesterday in all different styles of music. You're not defined
by what you like. I personally love seeing all connections between different
types of music. I like hearing the funk in Carole King and the rock in what
Jimi Hendrix does or Led Zeppelin. When you think of the drummer you think it
could be Sly and the Family Stone.
Everything's crossed over. All musical styles and all musical cultures have
always communicated and have always

RE: NPNY: Happy 4th? - Re: Music Club Hiatus

2006-07-05 Thread Turner, Robin T C-E LCMC LRC LEO
I'm with ya on this one.

2004 was a slammin' year with all the hype attached. But, this is a good way
to weed out the ones who were just there for the joy ride. Even when the club
was $100 a year, you knew only the hardcore fans would be crazy enough to join
and keep the club alive.

Sometimes you just need to clean house and start over. However when Prince
cleans house, he REALLY CLEANS, even if he is throwing out the good with the
bad.

Not like we haven't been here before and we won't go there again. And Again,
And Again...

But it's Prince, so you either go along for the ride or get off the bus.
Through it all, I'll take the ride.

Peace and wonderful observation.

Even I, a person with pretty much no entreprenurial sense whatsoever, knew that
the $25 membership was a bad long-term business move. Sadly, those new to the
Prince way of thinking probably believed that lifetime meant THEIR lifetime,
not the lifetime of his attentian span.

I do think if he offered more than just concert tickets, overpriced merchandise
and token bits and pieces of music and video hardcore fans could have kept the
site alive and profitable for him.

Oh well. I will definately miss the access to tickets, but I am hopeful at
least that will come back. And maybe if he charges a reasonable yearly fee all
of us tried and true fans will still have that access without the clutter of
those who arrived during Musicology and went just as fast.

I also have to say, this is so Prince: Win awards and recognition, then, in
essence, say Yawn, what's next?

Rob

From: NuPwrSoul [EMAIL PROTECTED]

From a business perspective that $25 lifetime membership was a
horrible financial model from the very start--in order for the club to
make money it depended on a constant addition of NEW members, while
the existing members probably wore out their profitability in terms of
bandwidth, etc. after the first year.

Any speculations on what it can mean?

Actually according to one of the PP's over at NPGMC, everyone had to pay to get
in, including the celebs who paid substantially more. And their seats
probably cost them a good $1,000 or $2,000 bottle of champagne.

RE: NPNY: NPGMC is not accepting new members

2006-06-26 Thread Turner, Robin T C-E LCMC LRC LEO
Any speculations on what it can mean?

- Upgrading the database? A possibility, but Prince not taking any $$
(fainting in NJ)

- Changing the terms of membership? Big possibility. Especially if he's gonna
charge big money for a tour. But doesn't that change the contractual terms for
those of us who have become life members Could be breach of contract. (Lawd
know they've tried that one already, I'm sure he doesn't want that againg)
More than likely, those with inactive accounts may be affected. Any new
members would have a different price for membership, possibily yearly.

- In preparation for a tour, they've capped the number of members to allow for
presale opportunities for all existing members? (yeah I know that's a long
shot) That really does seem like the most ligitamate reason. Especially if he
goes back to the smaller venues again like ONA Tours. To many people jumped on
the Musicology Bandwagon in 2004.

- The end of the site? After receiving two Webbies? I doubt that. So many
upgrades etc.

As I've said, It's Prince, who knows?

*Very interesting*

RE: NPNY: BUTTER review set list

2006-06-19 Thread Turner, Robin T C-E LCMC LRC LEO
Actually the I think both (please correct me) are from Sheila's Crew. I know
the guy with the trumptet was definitely at her Birthday party at the Roxy a
couple of years ago blowing his a** off. And the trombone player looked
familiar from the same crew.

Perfect review...glad we got there about the same time.

One note - the trombone player is not greg boyer from musicology and maceo's
band but a new guy.

Subject: NPNY: BUTTER review set list

Here's my review of the Butter show... feel free to correct any mistakes on
the set list, etc.

Show started at approx 1 a.m., ending at 3:50 a.m.

Venue was VERY SMALL. No stage/raised platform. Seemed like about
125 members in the NPG line (def no more than 150 in the joint).
Celebs in attendance included Nas, Kelis, Jay Z, Beyonce, P. Diddy, Paris
Hilton, Lindsey Lohan, Stephen Hill (BET Dir of Programming), ?uestlove.

Let me say this tho, Prince co. had to see that were it NOT for the NPG
Members who were there, the party would have been DEAD. With few exceptions
the celebs spent their time text message each other and their friends, talking,
and just basking in the status of being a VIP at a private exclusive Prince
party. The only energy from the audience was brought by the NPGMC
members!!

Here's the set list as I remember it.

Peach
Te Amo Corazon
Forever In My Life
Everyday People (Sly Family Stone cover) The Ride Never Loved A Man (Aretha
Franklin cover / Tamar on vox) Love Changes (Mel'isa Morgan Kashif cover /
Tamar on vox) Break the Chains (new song?) Come Together (Beatles cover / Tamar
Prince on vox) When A Man Loves A Woman (Percy Sledge cover / Tamar on vox)
Red Headed Stepchild (Tamar) Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin) (Sly
Family Stone cover / Tamar Prince on vox) Play That Funky Music (White Boy)
(Wild Cherry cover / BET Director of Programming Stephen Hill guest on vox)
Partyman

3121
Lolita
Satisfied
Black Sweat (Prince on keys vox)
Kiss
Joy in Repetition (with Tamar song? interpolated) Anotherloverholenyohead If I
Was Your Girlfriend Ecstacy (Barry White cover) jam with Be Happy, The Bird
(Mary J. Blige cover / Tamar Prince on vox, ?uestlove on drums)

Some notes:

Personnel: Prince, Tamar, Morris, Josh, Cora, Ray (trumpet), Greg (trumbone),
?uestlove (guest on drums), Stephen Hill (guest on vox).

There were some undertaker moments where Prince just went CRAZY with the
guitar. All the songs were performed in their entirety, or event in extended
jams. The 3121 material sounds AMAZING live. Prince's reinvention of some of
the classics--esp Anotherlover... is a guitar playing frenzy--it's almost heavy
metal what he was doing to that song. He was in a very playful mood, the sound
/ acoustics were amazing, his vocals were in tip top shape (some of his best
vocal work in terms of range, sustain, and timbre, in a long time), he even
danced around a bit. Because there was no stage or raised platform, this was
truly a LISTENING experience more than a visual one, and it was a great show.

RE: NPNY: 3121 drops 13% in Sales

2006-06-09 Thread Turner, Robin T C-E LCMC LRC LEO
Okay my two cents being dropped in the pot. I wonder why he chose GMA, when he
always did the Today show. I think it's the most popular daytime news station.
And when I watched the other morning at the very end it said Universal. (now
if I'm wrong, I know I'll be corrected on this.)

But, I can't even remember the last time I watched GMA. But hopefully, this
broadcast will bring his sales up to the Gold level at least. Especially if he
announces a real concert season. Getting a little late in the year now.
Unless he's going to do all of his shows from Vegas.

Any wayJust wondering...

Robin aka CherryMoon

Moderator: Me personally I am Good Day New York fan. Never watched GMA
for more then 1 then changed channel. I need my hit and run news, traffic
and weather and then I am out the door. In the morning there is no time

After showing a nice increase in sales proceeding the American Idol appearance
you guess it! 3121 drops again. Dropping from 79 to 90 on the Billboard Top 200.

This weeks sales 11,384
Last weeks Sales 13,604

On an interesting note 3121 is selling better then it do 2 weeks ago. We have
to thank the little bit of exposure for this.

Total Sales To Date as of weekending 6.4.06: 435,440 Total Left Till Gold:
64,560

Number of weeks Derek Estimates it will take before it hits gold: 8 weeks with
Prince current trend of non-promotion

RE: NPNY: FW: [thebumpsquad] 3121 in Las Vegas tix in4mation !

2006-05-09 Thread Turner, Robin T C-E LCMC LRC LEO
Okay, if they had assigned seats etc. Then I would probably think seriously
about it. (didn't think twice for Vegas 2004) But, in the heat...I'm sorry.
I can't do it. Would love to, but gonna have to letitgo this time.

Yall have fun out there, and don't forget the sunblock...

Come to think of it, the last big Celebration for $250 for the whole week,
guests and Prince every night. I'd rather spend the money on a Celebration.

Robin aka CherryMoon

(Hell, I spent that trying to get that damn purple ticket) LOL

Moderator: Its amusing to know that only 1 purple ticket was actually
found :-D -Derek

I can't imagine actually being able to pay for it at this stage in life and
still turning it down. :-O No harm. General admission at my age?
I'm already going to have to see a chiropractor after last night. LOL

Musicology had assigned seats, preferential seating arrangements etc.(even
though they were a surprise) And those tickets were around $70 and up.

The scalpers are gonna have a field day if Madonna's tickets are reaching the
$5000 mark. (But that to them, not Madonna)

$312 to stand up and bum rush the stage like at Lincoln Center: (Won't ever
forget that fiasco) And standing in Vegas at that? We're talking Memorial
Day weekend. Don't the temperatures start to rise about now?
In fact, Someone remind me. The Tiger Woods/Prince shows were in may also
weren't they? Gonna be in a Black sweat for real

I also hope this is not a precursor for the future.

Peace

That's what I'm saying. And we're talking vegas, 100+ degrees in the shade.

If he complained about people falling out at the Celebration, what does he
think is gonna happen in Vegas?

I don't know, Life's a Bitch.

THANK YOU! Ppl need to stop acting like he is going with a market rate by
comparing this to U2 or Madonna. This is GENERAL ADMISSION. You are paying
for the inconvenience of standing in line for hours before, and standing even
some more during the show in a crowd of 1300 people all trying to bumrush the
stage!

The 3121 theme is just not cute. 31.21 for t-shirts, 31.21 for
Tamar's show (which was a pretty good deal considering)... but 321.01
for a show... it means not only is the price high, but that Prince
co. are trying to be cute about it. I'm like, twist the knife why
don't you?

Somebody jokingly said, I hope he titles the next album 9.99 hahaha
