Venue or no venue being the reason the ticket price is so "high", if u guys

take the bite of paying $312.01 to go to this show, he will know that the
demand is there and I can say without a doubt that $312.01 will be price
for the
best seats or GA area for his future concerts.

If u truly "care" 4 the fans, then u wouldn't be doing the gig in the 1st
place at this venue if u need 2 charge that much to turn a profit. It's
gonna
make news but in the end, will it be remembered?

Madge and U2 have 2 charge that much cuz they have nothing else. P on the
other hand has so much more 2 offer. Music and buisness don't mix. Tell
me
where the brother went who said that? Cuz that guy had heart. A purple
heart
is worth more than any green $$$ in the world.

NPNY: [thebumpsquad] 3121 Purple Ticket Winner Review

2006-05-08 Thread thebumpsquad
Posted by Exdeus on the Quake.

Like others, I received a call on April 14 notifying me that I had
won a purple ticket in the second chance sweepstakes. According to
the Universal Records rep, only one purple ticket was found in a CD.

My guest and I flew out to LAX on Friday morning (May 5th). We
arrived in L.A., got settled in our room at the Beverly Hills Hilton
Hotel, just 3 miles from Prince's (rented) home in the Hollywood
Hills, and went out to the Sunset Strip Friday night to see the
sites...

After a couple schedule changes, a chartered coach was scheduled to
pick up the U.S. winners from the Hilton at 8:30pm Saturday night
(the international winners stayed at another hotel), with hors
d'oeuvres to be served and a tour of his home to be conducted upon
our arrival. A letter we received on Friday stated dinner would be
served at the party, but the Universal rep informed us while waiting
to depart on the bus that trays of hors d'oeuvres, not a sit-down
meal, would be served. The rep didn't know what kind of contact we
might have with Prince, but instructed us to be prepared to speak to
him, Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, or Prince's own film
crew, with the proper amount of enthusiasm for the event and the
album.

The bus departed a little after 8:30pm, and we arrived at "3121"
(actually 1235 Sierra Alta Way, West Hollywood) at about 9:10pm. The
address (1235) was painted on the curb, but gold lettering
for "3121" was placed on the entrance.

We exited the bus and waited at the gates, with the usual warnings
against cell phones, cameras, and recording devices. Groups of six
were searched and then escorted to a van for the 200 foot drive up
the driveway to the door. With the U.S. and international winners,
plus guests, approximately 50 people were assembled at the base of
the stairs leading to the front door (see NPGMC pics) at about
10:10pm. While we waited for a moment, Prince's film crew captured
the arriving guests, and Kevin Frazier began interviewing winners
for Entertainment Tonight.

A few moments later, a hostess (I did not catch her name) welcomed
us to the party, and escorted us past the threshold into the
entryway to Prince's home. We were brought up the main staircase to
the balcony and into the 3121 performance room. Unfortunately,
Prince did not speak to the contest winners, and no tour was
provided.

A large chandelier and table occupied the center of the entryway,
with a staircase leading up to the second floor, where the 3121
parties take place. To the left was a bar and pool table, some
bookshelves with a few decorative books and photos (Morris Day,
Malcolm Jamal Warner, The Twinz with their mother). Down a hallway
shooting off from that room, was the 3121 listening room pictured on
the NPGMC (formerly the Glam Slam room where the weekend tracks are
played).

Up the main staircase from the entryway are the split-level balcony,
indoor and outdoor bars, and the performance room where the 3121
parties have been thrown. The concert area was all one level, no
stage setup, with hardwood floors and a mirror across the entire
length of one wall (picture a dance studio or workout room, with a
large O(+> symbol made of inlaid wood on the floor). Circular tables
were lined against the walls, three per side.

The main doors to the performance area are pictured in the 3121
booklet, with "3121" and the symbol of an eye painted in purple
above the doors. Above there, a laser projector spread a white O(+>
across the balcony floor. Another O(+> symbol was projected on the
doors. To the right of the doors, a staircase led up to the second
level of the balcony, with the 3121 fountain to the right (see NPGMC
pics) and tennis court above the performance room.

Inside the performance room, a portion of the "Roots" television
series was projected across the back wall. When we arrived,
Housequake was spinning on the turntables, with a voiceover
comprised of a mocked-up interview between DJ Rasheeda and Prince in
his "old man" character (?). She asked Prince something about
biscuits, and Prince replied something along the lines of `I like
them crispy on the outside, but not too flaky.'. Later on in the
evening, interspersed between cuts from various Prince-related
records, DJ Rasheeda provided a "station announcement" for "3121
Radio on Sirius Satellite Radio".

A catering staff wearing matching black robes with "3121" in gold
lettering written on the collar made the rounds with trays of crab
cakes, eel, sushi (California rolls, Philadelphia rolls),
veggieburgers, quiche, spring rolls, and tuna. Late in the evening,
strawberry sorbet was served with mint leaves and chocolate wafers.
An open bar served a full stock of liquor, beer and wine all evening
and no tips were accepted. There was no champagne served in a glass
with chocolate handles, nor any Japanese robes or sandals. The
servers outfits did, however, resemble a kung-fu

Re: Fwd: NPNY: FW: [thebumpsquad] 3121 in Las Vegas tix in4mation!

2006-05-08 Thread jewell_r
I think the price is ridiculous. I am a 44 year old woman with a good job and
good credit and I am not paying that price. What about your typical college
student? How can they see a Prince show at that price? The man is giving us a
message about who he wants his fanbase to be, because he has no reason to
believe his current fanbase could easily pay that kind of price.

Moreover, $300 for a general admission ticket is larceny. I MIGHT understand it
if that was the cost of the first few rows in an intimate venue, with other
seats going for a more moderate price, but to charge that kind of cash to stand
in line and MAYBE be able to see shows a distinct lack of respect for his fans.

I hope this is not a predictor of future prices. I can't imagine being a fan
this long, only to be priced out the market.

Rob

NPNY: $312.01...

2006-05-08 Thread Derek

$312.01...

For the uninitiated I will get you up to speed. Prince's website NPGMC
announced that Prince was doing 2 shows Memorial Day weekend for $312.01 each
show. This announcement immediate created a tremendous backlash amongst his
fans.

So I have been thinkin' about this $312.01 ticket price thing. Is this the
future or just a one time thing?

HOPEFULLY it’s a one time thing. One fan reported that the venue they are
using is VERY expense! I have question why they choose this venue?

Because it’s "Envogue"? and Prince request to there...

Maybe it was the only one they could get at short notice? Which has
happened in the past...

Maybe nobody made a real effort to find a cheaper venue...

Could be all of the above...

I have to ask...

Where is the consideration when it comes to the fans? That is what bothers
me.
On many occasions cost has been the answer for things. $31.21 is a lot of
money
for a t-shirt. Try $12.13. You can sell a lot more in mass that way. Why
can't
they find a cheaper way of doing things?

Value...
Some people argue about value. Prince performances are PRICELESS. Besides the
recent Tamar show [which wasn't a really Prince show anyway] I don't ever
recall walking out of a Prince show dissatisfied. You get what you pay for
always, but it still doesn't justify the high ticket Prices. I never really
understood this argument.

Oh and BLAHBLAHBLAH Madonna's ticket prices! Her fans are outright stupid I
don't want to here it!

The Future
Who knows what is going to happen in the future. All I know is at that
price,
I personally won't be going to anymore Prince concerts.

Its like all the sports franchises, the athletes and owners make crazy
amounts of money, meanwhile the fans who cant afford luxury prices are
shut out and only the rich or those with expendable income can go or the
true fanatic who'll take out a second mortgage to fly around the world to
see Prince. I'm sorry at the end of the day, I got to provide for my
family and myself, if this is going to be the standard price of tickets,
I'll be buying a bootleg of the show once its available.

The thing is, at least with Madonna and U2, you get a pre-assigned *SEAT*...

That is NO comparison to having to stand in line for hours only to get the
chance to bumrush the stage and STAND ALL NIGHT in a crowd of 1,200 people,
waiting for Prince to perform.

$300+ for that? Helzzz naw

For that, they better have tables and chairs, have that joint set up like a
supper club, and serve DINNER.

Back from Cali. I just wanted to send out a personal thank you to Kelli for

Just to play devil's advocate:

If you had a product for sale and you sold it for $100 and then went onto a
website like Ebay (or Stubhub) and you saw that same exact product being sold
by the person who bought it from you for $300-$500 (and the product sold)

I think these artists get sick and tired of seeing the scalpers make more
money per ticket then they do. And I don't blame them. If he sold these
tickets
for $100, don't you think some fool would buy them off Ebay for 3 times that?
Or maybe 5 times that? So why shouldn't that money go to the artist?

Just a different angle on it, that's all

I can't imagine actually being able to pay for it at this stage in life
and still turning it down. :-O No harm. General admission at my age?
I'm already going to have to see a chiropractor after last night. LOL

Musicology had assigned seats, preferential seating arrangements etc.(even
though they were a surprise) And those tickets were around $70 and up.

The scalpers are gonna have a field day if Madonna's tickets are reaching
the $5000 mark. (But that to them, not Madonna)

$312 to stand up and bum rush the stage like at Lincoln Center: (Won't
ever forget that fiasco) And standing in Vegas at that? We're talking
Memorial Day weekend. Don't the temperatures start to rise about now?
In fact, Someone remind me. The Tiger Woods/Prince shows were in may also
weren't they? Gonna be in a Black sweat for real

I also hope this is not a precursor for the future.

I understand what you are saying but then turning it around, why not
sell it for $1000, there will always be a group of persons willing to
pay any price. And in that case wouldn't someone who did buy it for
$1000, go on Ebay and sell it for $1500 or more? You are still squeezing
the consumer and someone will always have an angle to make more , so you
as an artist do you make it affordable enough for your core fans or do
you squeeze them out and go for the most bang for your buck like the
sports leagues?

The 3121 theme is just not cute. 31.21 for t-shirts, 31.21 for
Tamar's show (which was a pretty good deal considering)... but 321.01
for a show... it means not only is the price high, but that Prince &
co. are trying to be cute about it. I'm like, "twist the knife why
don't you?"

Somebody jokingly said, "I hope he titles the next album 9.99" hahaha

If I had a product for sale and sold it for $100, the transaction
would be complete. It's up to me to make sure all my costs and
markup are covered when I sell my product. If I failed to price
my item at a higher price, and the person who bought my product saw
a way to do that, that's called retail. The issue then becomes is
the seller licensed to sell.

A CD costs a dollar. if you buy i bulk or manufacture the things, it
can cost as little as $.06. So, if I put my band's music on it,
that I've already paid for the recording of, and resell it for
$9.99, I'm doing the same thing. Profit is not a crime. Illegal
reselling of something you don't OWN is.

Just to play devil's advocate:

If you had a product for sale and you sold it for $100 and then went
onto a
website like Ebay (or Stubhub) and you saw that same exact product
being sold
by the person who bought it from you for $300-$500 (and the product
sold)
wouldn't you say to yourself, well that's what the product is worth
then. If the
market will pay that much, then why aren't I charging that much?

I think these artists get sick and tired of seeing the scalpers make
more
money per ticket then they do. And I don't blame them. If he sold
these tickets
for $100, don't you think some fool would buy them off Ebay for 3
times that?
Or maybe 5 times that? So why shouldn't that money go to the artist?

Just a different angle on it, that's all

Mike

PS - When I say "Some Fool" include me in that category... cause I've
been
there and I've done that.

Better be careful with the 9.99 thing as wellshoot, at the rate it's
going with the ticket price hike, that will be interpreted as $999! LOL
