There was one major positive from this mornings game:

From the kick-off we didn't pass it straight back to Hennessey, instead it
only went to Ward at left back. So quite clearly we are making progress
 under Connor.

 The rest was pretty ordinary:
Shots on target 12 - 1 to Fulham
 60% possession to Fulham

I can't really think of any other positives. Anyone?

I cannot fathom the studs up shin height challenge from Lampard. Just because

way.
It's a pity the crowd didn't take the fire they had from the first half, into
the second half. I've got the say though that period from Lampard's booking
until the end of the first half was some cracking football. Just a pity we
couldn't convert those two chances.

Ok - so Mick is still with us. Who's going to get up at 5.30 tomorrow morning

Foxtel showing it live.

RE: [NSWolves] MM prediction.

2011-10-26 Thread Paul Taylor

I've kept quiet on this, but have been reading away.

I'm still for MM, as I believe that managerial stability is still the way
forward. However, I do agree that his selection stubbornness is aggravating me,
and that Milijas and Guedioura are the way forward. What can I do about it?
Nothing. Will whinging about it change it? Nup. Will MM pay attention to
anything I post on any forum? I doubt it. But damn it hurts watching some of
the drivel of late.

RE: [NSWolves] MM has no brain!

2011-10-16 Thread Paul Taylor

Truly disappointing display. Why MM is sticking with players that are either a/
out of form or b/ not up to it, is beyond me.

Berra - WWF might be on Foxtel, but his defensive weaknesses are beyond a joke.
I'd much rather see Craddock get a run.
Stearman - every time I see him make a run up the wing it reminds me of a foal
who's taking their first steps and hasn't worked out how to put one foot in
front of the other. You can see his lack of confidence as when he does got
forward, he'll push a pass backwards, lose it, or trip over. Bring on Zubar.
Hammill - I'd like to see more of him, with Hunt on the other wing. Hammill
seems as tenacious as Hunt, whilst Jarvis needs a spell.
Guedioura - being wasted IMO. He likes to take on defenses and push forward.
I'd rather see him on than Henry.
Milijas - Definitely on for JOH say no more.
Doyle - maybe bring on SEB for a while, and whilst Fletcher is injured, give
Edwards a go as the tall go to forward?

The problem is MM won't do this. Whether it's pride or just plain stupidity I
don't know.

I really don't see this current team performing much better than what they are.

How about Mike Phelan at Manure? He might want a change after serving under Sir
Alex for a few years. We need a big clear out and some new ideas. I thought
Clipboard was leaving us, why is he still at the club? I still think Martin
O’Neill could do a job for us. He is available and could start asap. Which is
what we need! Matt, I can see both of these interested in the job. Especially

best work comes if we get the ball to him with his back to goal to hold up for
people coming through from midfield, as despite the fact he does go down very
easily he is actually pretty strong once he's got the ball at his feet and will
either bring someone else into play or draw the foul (in either scenario I
believe we're most likely to benefit with Milijas on the pitch). Last night we
continued to go wide in attack, almost as if no-one had pointed out that
Fletcher wasn't playing. We made nothing from our wide balls into the box but
continued to labour with it. Milijas was picking some great early balls going
forward, but once again was the one to make way. I would much rather have seen
him stay on than O'Hara once SEB got on. O'Hara's shown some great ability but
its not happening for him at the moment - play people who are in form and force
the ones who aren't to find it to get back in. I'm surprised that it has taken
so long for Berra's wrestling to get any real attention from the commentators -
he's an absolute liability at set pieces and if it starts to get talked about
by the commentators it will surely be brought to the attention of refs and
could start to cost us dearly. With the squad we have we should be able to do
alright this year but I just don't believe McCarthy uses his squad most

Agreed, unfortunately we're not going to be able to attract any players of that
calibre. I would like us to try and use the loan system better than we have in
the past.

When you look at players like sturridge on loan at bolton and wellbeck on loan
at sunderland, they are players that have had big impacts and injected pace and
flair to those two teams. Surely we should be able to attract players like that
now that we are establishing ourselves in the premier league?

He is the best manager we've had for some time, at least

With the side we have I think he's about on par.
Could another manager punch further above our current weight?
Possibly, but I think it's unsustainable in the long term. Roy will be
an intersting one to watch next season.
We still have a side that is 50% the same as the one
that won the championship. It's hard to argue that the team should be
doing better on those grounds
I also think Mick gets more out of the team than they
actually have in terms of quality. The team seem to like him very
much.
We've beaten some very good teams. The number we
have beaten makes it very hard to put down to fluke. I think we have

Despite appearing to make bad decisions in selection, I

Well there is 25m in the bank apparently

I can't help but think that with a decent stadium and under fair play rules we
should be in a great position with no debt. A few more years and we could be
winning a cup. Probably league though, not one of the good ones.

Interesting idea. A couple of loan or bosman signings might be the way to go
now to give us that kick start to another level without big capital outlay. We
should be able to get some better players than Mancienne in on loan. Lescott
from City? Most other clubs do it. We've tended to get the young and hungry
players from the fringes rather than those that are towards the end of their
career and that might be time to change now.

I still can hardly believe we stayed up. It looked bleak for much of last
season.

Agreed. We just need some quality now. I don't mean a Rory Delap type player,

real creativity along with decisive defending.

We were playing some old Wolves DVDs on the weekend, and on one was a match
from the Championship against Watford pre-MM. It was sobering to be reminded
how bad wee were back then compared to now, and far MM has really bought us.

The need for tough tackling midfielders ? For creative midfielders ? For goal
scorers ? For a manager capable of getting us into the PL / And for keeping us
there ? MM got us there, and has kept us there 2 seasons running, on a
shoestring budget.

Remember all the fans constantly moaning there wasnt enough commitment, passion
and desire to win ? 'Wasters' ? MM clearly has turned that one around and
deserves full credit for it.

With the side we have I think he's about on par. Could another manager punch
further above our current weight? Possibly, but I think it's unsustainable in
the long term. Roy will be an intersting one to watch next season.
We still have a side that is 50% the same as the one that won the championship.
It's hard to argue that the team should be doing better on those grounds
I also think Mick gets more out of the team than they actually have in terms of
quality. The team seem to like him very much.
We've beaten some very good teams. The number we have beaten makes it very
hard to put down to fluke. I think we have looked really good at times.
Despite appearing to make bad decisions in selection, I have to assume that he

Marcus is right – the only positive was a point that I hadn’t banked but (but
had publicly hoped for).

It was an away game – this Sunday is huge. But it’ll probably still come down
to a win against Blackburn so that we scramble over Wigan and Blackpool
to survival.

A bit disappointed – all my ducks were lining up. Walsall
won and only need a draw to survive. Shrewsbury
won and a final win would see them promoted. Bundanoon Wombats had a shock win
and will still be relegated. Wolves…? Glad I don’t get to watch the tripe
they’ve dealt out in recent weeks.

Everything that we know is poor in the team came back to the surface today.
Nenad's ability to sometimes crumble under pressure. Our non-performing left
back space. Our defence which doesn't communication with each other. A keeper
that has the very rare howler. A forward who will miss the open net. People who
give the ball away. Yellow cards early in the game.

Everything went wrong today. Hopefully it's all out of the system now. I had a
feeling that we were getting complacent with all of this talk of we are safe.
We're not safe until the last ball is kicked. It was the hiding and performance
we needed to get our act together leading into the last games.

On that basis, every game for us bar Sunderland is a six pointer! All of
those teams with touch matches will see us as a must win game.

I am optimistic about our chances but I do fear that we'll fail. It will be a
big lost chance for us. We have a team now that is capable of holding our own
with anyone in the league and a couple more signings in the summer could really
lock us in to the Prem.

RE: [NSWolves] The run in [sec=unclassified]

2011-03-07 Thread Paul Taylor

My thoughts exactly Steve. We have a real strong core now, some great skills,
so go getters, and some guys to put in a shift. The team has come on immensely,
and if we do stay up, we have something really strong to build upon. I'd hate
to see what could happen to the team if we do go down.

I've changed my mind and think West Ham could still go down with those

I've just watched it for the third time. I think my missus finally understands.
I think even she knew this was a big deal.

I liked Henry sitting in behind O'Hara and Milijas. To me it said that we were
going forward, with Henry beefing up the back 4. Hammil must start. He's shown
great tenacity and a wonderful ability to hook the ball across instead of
pissfarting around with it. I bet he didn't think 4 weeks ago that he would
play in a side that beat Manure.

Good things are going to continue to come before this season is up.

I've just been looking at the fixtures for the bottom six teams. My informed
guess at this point is that the three relegated teams will be:

18. West Ham
19. Wigan
20. West Brom

I think Birmingham and Wolves will get enough points from the teams they have
to play. Blackpool will just scrape by.

Anyone else care to stick their neck out now and we'l compare at the end of the
season?

So we have some positive news that Tevez will miss the game
and possibly Toure will be out as well. Shame that they will probably slot
Emmanuel Adebayor in to replace Tevez and any number of internationals could
replace Toure.

The biggest selection questions though are:

1.
Should Henry walk back into the side after his
suspension? I’d argue we have looked better without him.

2.
Should Craddock be restored to the starting line-up?

RE: [NSWolves] No comments?

2010-09-13 Thread Paul Taylor

I watched the game on a live stream - iraqtv.net or something like that. I'll
dig it up again next time if we need it.

We were good until Zamora was taken off, then we seemed to struggle. The goal
was our only shot in the first half, yet we seemed to be dominating the
midfield. The tackle on Zamora was fair, no matter what all the whingers are
saying. Got the ball fair and square, just that his leg got caught up. The
turning point I think was taking JVD off - we ended up with Doyle, SEB, and
Fletcher all on at the same time. Why Terence Trent Darby started I'm not sure.
When Jones came on he didn't play with any passion - no doubt p'ed at missing
the run-on squad? I'd like to see Gianfrancodora starting with Henri some time
in the future. Jarvis head and shoulders above everyone on the pitch, with
cries of Jarvis for England coming from the travellers. The yellows being
given were flimsy, although Berra deserved both of his - both occasions
blocking someone who wouldn't have got the ball anyway. The second one lost it
for us - along with the jumping wall.

[NSWolves] Lineup preddy

The loss to Reading didn't read too well for Big George. Here's my first game
line-up prediction for Stoke.

Hanneman

Zubar Craddock Berra Van-Damme

SEB Henry Jones Jarvis

Fletcher

Doyle

The bolter is SEB on the right. He's lazy so will he do that trotting back that
Foley does, although he has shown some spark so far. Van-Damme is younger and
more mobile than George. His main challenger there for LB is Ward.

[NSWolves] God bless his cotton socks

2010-04-22 Thread Paul Taylor

http://www.premierleague.com/page/Headlines/0,,12306~2032127,00.html

It makes you wonder looking at the table especially our home goals for, just
where we'd be if we put another 10 in the net, the same as the other teams
around us. Mid-table perhaps?

So what do we need next year? Someone to work with Doyle, some to cover injury
prone Kightly, another Henry, and then a couple of extra backs. Is that about
it?

Apart from the dead-wood who we already know, who else would we let go? SEB?
Ward? Keogh?

RE: [NSWolves] MM to be replaced at end of season?

2010-04-13 Thread Paul Taylor

Maybe so, but what are the chances of that happening? How can we get rid of
our best Manager in 30 years?

Next year with more confidence, our run won't be built upon our defence like
this year (which has been pretty good in comparison to others). With a bit more
dosh and quality MM may be able to build the squad, but will he spend wisely
enough? I can't see him being booted unless we are in trouble. It will be a big
call if he is let go.

Who thinks we should replace MM at the end of the
season?

Let’s face it 10 goals in all home games this season is not
going to be acceptable again!!

As for the 4-5-1 tactics that have apparently saved our
season, these will not work again next season. Other Manager’s now know how we
play and will change tactics to beat us.

As much as I like the man I think he has taken us as far as
he can and is capable of. He should be given a big pat on the back, a nice
golden handshake and sent on his way. Moxey can join him at the Taxi rank as
well.

Time for a new broom and fresh ideas.

RE: [NSWolves] So close but still not quite there!!

2010-04-11 Thread Paul Taylor

I think we had better ball at feet possession, and it showed as the game
progressed that we looked more the likeley to score. That rolled volley from
Foley was oh so close. 25 throws from Delap doesn't mean they had us under
pressure, yet the papers seem to think so eh?

2010-03-13 Thread Paul Taylor

I'm not sure why he changed from 4-5-1. It was suiting us, then with the change
they started to come at us. SEB still seems to have no heart to work hard after
the ball.

Not enjoying it as much as I hoped but as much as
expected.

The last 20 or so minutes last night at least gave
the game a bit of tension.
Would have gone for a couple more goals myself to
improve our goal difference rather than shutting up shop and giving Burnley the
initiative.

I'm not sure I've really enjoyed this season very much. What does
  everyone else think?

I know we should be competing at the highest level but I haven't
taken as much pleasure as I thought I would. I am happy with out
position in the league, as it's in line with my expectations, but I'm
just not enjoying the Prem. Even if we survive, what have we got to look
forward to? Relegation battles each year, or at best, having nothing to
play for by this time of the season.

The fine over the Manure game was ridiculous, as was Liverpool's keeper
running the length of the pitch to get Ward sent off. At least in the
Championship it was proper football, less cheating and more British
  players.

Was it really that bad? We had a go – scored first (away at Brum!), 15 shots
with 4 of them on target,
Could have nicked all three points until the last 5 mins.
Yes the score could have been 6-0 or 6-6 or 2-6.
But it was a darn sight better than our cup performance or Hull.

Watch it if you can. If anything to learn...

- 1x goal from set play - Mancienne flat footed.
- 1x Hennesey fumble
- 1x Hennesey through the legs

Hennesey doesn't command the area like Hannemann.

We were no good with long balls hoofed through, which seemed to be their plan.

Maybe we should play Zubar upfront? Less
likely to give away penalties and can’t do any worse than He Eats Cake!

Is anyone else going

the score will be and will we put out a full strength team considering we have
Birmingham away on Sunday?

I reckon we could
cop a flogging at Birmingham on the weekend unfortunately as they have been
playing some pretty solid football lately.

We're also 14th on form at the moment, so if we keep this up we may slide up a
couple more spots. I'm still very confident in the squad, just amazed though at
our inability to put the ball in the net. That strike by Mujangi Bia at the end
against Hull had me savouring things to come. 2 feet to the left and it was 3

Not a dickie bird so far.

Stuff em tomorrow, bring him in. I believe that Portsmouth and Burnley will go

transfer.

2-0 to Wolves. Henry header from a Jarvis cross and then a Milijas strike from

RE: [NSWolves] Liverpooh [sec=unclassified]

2010-01-26 Thread Paul Taylor

I liked the new formation too. Felt pretty chuffed seeing the teamsheet when
they ran out that SEB was nowhere to be seen. We were strong across the back
and midfield. I agree Mancienne is still a concern, but he did some good
closing down, fixed in with some poor passes. That run of his in the second
half was freeflowing. Milijas just couldn't get a run on it with the bounce
alluding him many times. Jarvis was great, and Doyle just never gives up. I
thought Henry was good too, and Craddock and Berra are a good combination.
Zubar seems to lug around a bit, but is strong when he needs to be. Guedioura
for the few mins he was on looked strong and willing to impress too.

Happy with the point, although we could have nabbed it. Other results went our
way too. A win against Hull will do quite nicely thanks very much.

That 451 arrangement is good. We still created plenty of chances. Another
Jarvis style winger on the right and three in the middle would create a lot of
chances.

Liverpool can never finish top four can they? Something for the fans to think
about as they're queueing at the post office to pick up the pension for their
long-dead nans.

2010/1/27 Morris, Lee SGT lee.mor...@defence.gov.au

Thought Liverpool were quite poor. We battled hard and were unlucky not to
sneak a goal.

Doyle continues to impress, had a very good game today, always a danger to
Liverpool, if only we could find someone to score a few goals to compliment him.

Jarvis had a good game, he blows hot and cold but has the ability to get
crosses in when they look unlikely.

Reasonable defensive performance but Mancienne scares the living daylights out
of me.

A result against Hull on the weekend is vital.

I've got to say, I'm not sure what those commentators were on last night. Did
anyone seem to think that they were very pro-Burnley? I thought we totally
outclassed them in all facets. Everyone did their job, and I reckon it could
have been at least 5-1. SEB seemed a lot more comfortable, and as the papers
have said, he and Doyle really worked some nice play. Hanneman I think it
getting stronger and stronger, and seems a lot more direct than Hennesey. Henry
nearly let them back in with a silly shirt pull which was missed (another one
back our way, even though I still think we are owed two more favours). Ward and
Stearman did a great job out wide, and Craddock and Berra were as strong as
dominant. Good to see someone has done some work on our play at corners with
Foley covering the post (and saving a goal) on one occasion. Gee even Terrence
Trent Darby looked competent when he came on making a lot of tackles in front

How can it be understrength if all that played were fit. When you look at it,
all of them except Hill have played this year. There's really nothing that can

Chelsea's or Man U's. Would they be complaining if we nabbed a point due to
fresh legs?

Apparently Chelsea
have put in a formal protest about Wolves fielding an under strength team
;)

2009-12-15 Thread Paul Taylor

True, true. Not the best move, but as Matt said we'll find out on the weekend.

Got a note from Tom this morning (remember him??). He was glad he didn't spend
the 43 quid to travel to Old Trafford to watch the reserves.

the Premier League have confirmed that there has been no wrong-doing
and that Wolves are entitled to pick any 11 from their registered player
list.

I feel sorry for the strongest 11 who have been denied the
opportunity to play at Old Trafford and test themselves against the current
champions in front of 76,000 people. Surely as a professional these are
the types of matches that you can look back on and say that you completed with
the best in the game.

I can just picture the stories to the kids: Dad, what was it
like to play against Man Utd at Old Trafford?, Craddock says I didn't get
to play that one son as I was saving myself to play Burnley the
following weekend.

Mick has made us a laughing stock.

How can it be understrength if all that played were fit. When you
look at it, all of them except Hill have played this year. There's really
nothing that can be done about it I feel. It's just that our second 11 isn't as
