To: mailing list for ConTeXt users ntg-context@ntg.nl Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Hi Wolfgang, it seems to me that referenzline, subject, foldmarks, etc, are about 4mm or 5mm to big (A4 paper). The foldmark for example should be 105mm from papertop. It is 110mm from top. The horizontal offset (3.5mm) of foldmarks ist to small. A laserprinter often is not able to print 5mm or more from paperedge. So the foldmarks are invisibel. I never measured the real values and it should be simple whitespace problem somewhere in the code. Have you found that whitespace? Aren't the foldmarks positioned in absolute values relative to the page? There is no whitespace involved, isn't it? So I don't understand this 5mm offset at all. Are your vertical foldmark positions ok? The address field was wrong placed and I corrected it, the place for the referenece line should work but I change the position dependen on the alternative for the layout and the value in the default letterstyle is ignored at the moment. Don't what do you mean about the subject, the position is controlled with the normal page layout. But the bodyspace depends on the space occupied by the header (addresfield, referenceline etc.). Wrong? I could change the values for the foldmarks, I corrected the position already and it got them at least on my own printer. You could try to play with \setupletterstyle[topmark,botmark,cutmark][hoffset=...] and give me a value that did work for your printer. 6mm should be enough for laserprinters. I found the whitespace and it is was not 4 or 5mm but \lineheight, the problem was I place the content for the layers in a frame and the strut moved the symbols a little bit down by \strutht, I fixed it for the marks and this was also the problem for the address field. I put a new version online and you could test it, the horizontal position and the length for the marks are unchanged but you could try different values and report which of them did work for you. The address field was wrong placed and I corrected it, the place for the referenece line should work but I change the position dependen on the alternative for the layout and the value in the default letterstyle is ignored at the moment. Wrong? The distance between the top of the subject line and the topmargin of the page depends indeed on the height from the reference line and the address field, the DIN specification is very unclear in this point and what i wanted is to have always the same distance between the reference line and the subject. [NTG-context] two small questions about the mkiv roadmap
Hi all, esp. Hans and Taco, just two simple questions about some minor imperfections in mkiv/ luatex. I'm not impatient, just wondering if these are things that you're working on right now or if they will have to wait: 1. processing xml files with a DTD. This is something we discussed a couple of weeks ago: when I process a valid xml file which begins with a DTD, the output I get in mkiv is invalid xml file; the same file processes fine when I remove the DTD. Back then (on 08-03-17), Taco wrote: It is a bug in luatex, but not an easy one to fix. So I'm wondering if there's any progress on this one, or if it has to wait. 2. error reports in luatex. This is something that comes up time and again on the mailing list and which I experienced myself yesterday. I had inadvertently deleted my luatex-cache and tried to run mkiv on a file. The report I got was attempt to call field 'error' (a nil value). Now I'm aware that TeX error reporting could be cryptic at times, but at least it was a kind of cryptic to which we had gotten used. With luatex, I'm constantly baffled - in a 100 years, I wouldn't have guessed that this error message meant I can't find the cache and the format. So I was wondering if this is something that you're working on: making error messages more informative/comprehensible for users. Again, I'm not impatient, just curious. With this fix applied, If one now put a formula inside an enumeration one gets double space before the formula. This is a test file that shows the problem: This is basically because in enumerations indenting is set to never. You can see the same affect with \setupindenting[no] \testtext One possible fix is to add indenting=(reset|next|first) %default is never to the \setupenumeration command. For example \defineenumeration[example] [text=Example, location=serried, width=fit, indenting=reset, %% Add This distance=0.5em, way=bysection, ] Another is to change \startdisplaymath to \def\startdisplaymath {\ifgridsnapping \beforedisplayspace \snapmathtogrid\vbox \bgroup \informulatrue %\forgetall % breaks side floats \else \bgroup \parskip\formulaparskip % ! ! \informulatrue %\forgetall % otherwise backgrounds fail \ifdim\lastskip\zeropoint\else \par \ifvmode \ifdim\parskip\zeropoint\relax \whitespace \vskip-\parskip % kind of forces and cancels again \fi \fi \fi \doif\displaygridcorrection{-\v!top}{\kern-\strutht}% new, currently only option/default \beforedisplayspace \par \ifvmode \ifdim\parskip\zeropoint\relax \else \ifindentfirstparagraph \verticalstrut \vskip-\struttotal \vskip-\baselineskip \fi\fi \fi \fi $$\setdisplaydimensions \setpredisplaysize\lastlinewidth \startinnermath} But this is getting ugly. Also, an helvetica like typeface is a must. In the old times some PS Level2 RIPs couldn't handle Truetype fonts. And most bad fonts are Truetype. But in fact the format tells nothing about quality or printability. OpenType fonts can contain Truetype-based outlines as well as PostScript-based (quadratic vs. cubic curves). Usually .otf files contain PostScript-based outlines, while .ttf can mean old Truetype as well as TrueType-based OpenType. I.e. the TrueType format can encode its slots in Unicode (obligatory for OpenType) or in any other encoding. I have just uploaded a new version to the garden. good. Re: [NTG-context] Trouble with Index
Indeed. Question to the developers: given that our rule of thumb is material within {} will be typeset; material within [] is for setups etc., wouldn't it make sense to have the command as index[]? (Maybe with an alternative \index{} which will typeset the word AND put it in the index?) Ok, but what am I doing wrong? Should I typeset \index[] or \index{}? Or am I missing some trick? Or is this problem waiting for solution. I have put both ways in my file and the page with Index is still empty. Armando Martins Citando Thomas A. I haven't finished adapting the module with XeTeX, but the error you report has nothing to do with XeTeX; it simply shows that you haven't installed the module in the right way.
