[NTG-context] Problem typing file with diacritics by \typefile

2010-10-12 Thread Procházka Lukáš Ing . - Pontex s . r . o .

Hello,

I have problem. Suppose having t-TypeF.ctx which is to print itself:

---
\enableregime[cp1250]

\starttext

  ABC

  ŽŠČ

  \typefile[]{t-TypeF.ctx}

\stoptext
---

The letters ŽŠČ to be printed during \typefile are the problem.

I get a long error message, where the key message is:

l.9   \typefile[]{t-TypeF.ctx}

! String contains an invalid utf-8 sequence.

system error on line 73 in file t-TypeF.ctx: String contains an
invalid utf-8 sequence ...

l.73
 ´┐Ż

The file is created with CP 1250 = Windows, Eastern Europe, Czech Republic.

So how do I make ctx accept also Czech letters with diacritics like ŽŠČ?

- I also looked to wiki to \setuptyping, but it doesn't seem to there would be
a command which could change this.

Lukas

[NTG-context] Headers must not be the last object on the page

2010-10-12 Thread Brian Wedde
I'm getting headers as the last item on a page. Following content appears on
the next page. I would like to have headers not be separated from their
content by a page break.

Is there a way to say if a header is the last thing on the page, place it on
the next page instead?

I am aware of the before={\testpage[n]\blank} trick, but this only applies
when you need a specific amount of lines. Because the following content may be
a figure, float, table, or other large object, the space required will vary. I
just want the header to know that it must not be the last object on the page.

Is this possible?

Thank you very much for your help.

Hello,

It seems, that \typefile assumes utf8 independently of the \enableregime.

I would suggest to configure your environment (editor and so on) to use only
utf8.

It's a problem as the file which is \typefiled is generated by another program
and I have no control of which characters or which encoding it uses.

All runs programs run under Windows and all [mentioned] are using CP 1250.

[NTG-context] Page-breakable \subsubsubject?

2010-10-12 Thread Procházka Lukáš Ing . - Pontex s . r . o .

Hello,

I'd have one more question.

I need to have many \subsubject behind each other (again: actually processing
an external file, but a small example is attached):

---
\setupbodyfont[11pt]

\starttext
  \subsubsubject{001}
  \subsubsubject{002}
  \subsubsubject{003}
  \subsubsubject{004}
  \subsubsubject{005}
  \subsubsubject{006}
  \subsubsubject{007}
  \subsubsubject{008}
  \subsubsubject{009}
  \subsubsubject{010}
  \subsubsubject{011}
  \subsubsubject{012}
  \subsubsubject{013}
  \subsubsubject{014}
  \subsubsubject{015}
  \subsubsubject{016}
  \subsubsubject{017}
  \subsubsubject{018}
  \subsubsubject{019}
  \subsubsubject{020}
  \subsubsubject{021} % Last visible on the page
  \subsubsubject{022}
  \subsubsubject{023}
  \subsubsubject{024}
  \subsubsubject{025}
  \subsubsubject{026}
\stoptext
---

The problem is that typesetting n-th \subsubject doesn't go to the next page,
but is typeset on the same page, so that the last ones disappear.

So how to setup (?) \subsubject to allow page breaks inside them? (Wiki did not
prompt.)

Lukas

I usually do the reverse; use .tex for context (or plain) and .ltx for
latex, the later is also identified by vim so I get proper syntax

it's not so much dos but the old iso cd standards but nowadays everyone
uses the extensions that permit long names

so, indeed 8.3 is no longer an issue (one reason why I stick to the 8
for context core files is that it works out quite well in lists and such)

Since the almost total disappearance of 3.5 floppies and bare iso9660

But as far as I know, windows still bases its file type detection
on extension, so that is something to keep in mind.

yes; more generally  I think to customer OS for embedded devices
 Maybe we should restrict our coding as well to ascii...
As long as you impose the filename to follow the ascii 8.3 convention
the OS should be ok.
ConTeXt mkii is already able to manage utf-8 bytestreams (it's not a
OS issue, becuse  it's a binary file for these OSs)

Maybe not the full context, but metatex .
It's a memory+CPU issue so not too serious nowadays.
Also you lua is designed to be small and it's easy to compile luatex
for different targets.

[NTG-context] Synonyms: difference between mkii and mkiv?

2010-10-12 Thread Otared Kavian
Hi all,

When I typeset the following example (ConTeXt version 2010.10.11 16:59, from
the Minimals)

%%% begin abbrev-test.tex
\definesynonyms[abbreviation][abbreviations][\infull][\inshort]
\starttext
\abbreviation{LCTVS}{Locally Convex Topological Vector Space}
\abbreviation{EEG} {Electroencephalogram}
\abbreviation{ERP} {Event-Related Potentials}
\abbreviation{TVS}{Topological Vector Space}

Test inshort: \inshort{EEG}, \inshort{ERP}, \inshort{TVS},

Test infull: \infull{EEG}, \infull{ERP}, \infull{TVS}, \infull{LCTVS}

\stoptext
%%% end abbrev-test.tex

with mkii I get:
Test inshort: Electroencephalogram, Event-Related Potentials,
Topological Vector Space,
Test infull: EEG, ERP, TVS, LCTVS

while in mkiv I get
Test inshort: EEG, ERP, TVS,
Test infull: ELECTROENCEPHALOGRAM, EVENT-RELATED POTENTIALS,
TOPOLOGICAL VECTOR SPACE,
LOCALLY CONVEX  TOPOLOGICAL VECTOR SPACE

I mean in mkii the first command in the definition
\definesynonyms[abbreviation][abbreviations][\infull][\inshort]
that is \infull, is considered to be the short version of the synonyms, while
in mkiv it is considered to be the long version and CAPITALIZED.

Is this a bug or a change between mkii and mkiv?
How can one set up the command in mkiv so that it is not all CAPITALS?

Thanks for your attention: OK

 Maybe not the full context, but metatex .
 It's a memory+CPU issue so not too serious nowadays.
 Also you lua is designed to be small and it's easy to compile luatex
 for different targets.

The point of these systems generally is to limit the use to a single
(real-time) task, on the factory floor, for example.

I guess now there is an explosion of embedded systems in handhelds,
phones, etc. and one might like to have luatex available.
We did see the beginnings of putting ConTeXt on an ipad, after all.

When I have to deal with documents that were written in MSWord and export them
to eg. TEI XML, it looks like this:

anchor type=bookmark-start xml:id=Keyword/
... text, text ...
index
   termIndexentry/term
  index
 termSubentry/term
  /index
/index
anchor type=bookmark-end corresp=#Keyword/

So, setting the index entrie at the end matches this order quite well ...
And as a lot of documents originally are written in MSWord your feature is very
useful!

There is one attached - t-TypeF.mkiv - it contains all Czech letters with
diacritics.

You can see also all letters with diacritics in Czech - Cz.txt (CP 1250) and their
translation to UTF8 - Cz-UTF8.txt.

[NTG-context] Error message wrong when \component is used

2010-10-12 Thread Robin.Kirkham
Dear all,

I find that when there is an error (at least, undefined control sequence) in
a file included using \component, the supposedly erroneous lines printed are
from the calling file, not the file where the error actually is (although the
line number seems correct, and there are clues where the error really lies).

Minimal example ...

file1.tex:
\startproduct file1
\starttext
Bla bla bla.
Bla bla bla.
Bla bla bla.
\component file2
\stoptext
\stopproduct

file2.tex:
\startcomponent file2
Bleh bleh bleh.
Bleh bleh bleh.
Bleh bleh bleh.
\zorg
\stopcomponent

When I run context file1 I get an error:
...
ConTeXt  ver: 2010.10.12 01:03 MKIV  fmt: 2010.10.12  int: english/english
...
systems : begin file file1 at line 1
systems : begin file file2 at line 6
(file2.tex
! Undefined control sequence.

system error on line 5 in file file1.tex: Undefined control sequence
...

1 \startproduct file1
2 \starttext
3 Bla bla bla.
4 Bla bla bla.
5   Bla bla bla.
6 \component file2
7 \stoptext
8 \stopproduct

l.5 \zorg

If I replace \component with \input in file1.tex, all works correctly and the
error (\zorg) is correctly pointed out.

Best,

Robin

mkii \setupnote[footnote][next=\autoinsertnextspace] but the ”next” key is
missing in mkiv.

Indeed!
What to do?

Patch strc-not.mkiv

Did not see this before I posted my reply. Of course, using a proper key
is better than explicitly add \autoinsertnextspace in the definition.

[NTG-context] beta

2010-10-12 Thread Hans Hagen

Hi,

I uploaded a beta. This weeks undocumented feature:

\starttext

test \placefigure{}{}
test \placefigure[somewhere:alpha][whatever]{}{}
test \placefigure[somewhere:beta] [whatever]{}{}
test \placefigure[somewhere:gamma][whatever]{}{}
test \placefigure[somewhere:delta][whatever]{}{}
test \placefigure{}{}

in \in{figure}[whatever] bla bla

\placenamedfloat[figure][*l*]

\placenamedfloat[figure][gamma]
\placenamedfloat[figure][beta]

\stoptext

Experimental of course. Alan and I are discussing up some more clever
mechanisms (follow up on conference chats) but this will probably stay.

This is sort of tricky and occasionally Taco and I look into it as it

How about a DocuWare license? To use ConTeXt, each month you have to enter

return {

   TEXMFCACHE = '~/Library/texlive/2010/texmf-var',
   TEXMFHOME  = '~/Library/texmf',

There is no way to update TeX Live to fix this file as this is a local

 Why do you use start-/stoptext inside start-/stopproduct?

 Steffen

Hi Steffen,

By mistake!  8-)

However, if I take out the start-/stoptext, it makes no difference, Context is
still printing text from the wrong file in the error message:

file1.tex:
\startproduct file1
Bla bla bla.
Bla bla bla.
Bla bla bla.
\component file2
\stopproduct

file2.tex:
\startcomponent file2
Bleh bleh bleh.
Bleh bleh bleh.
Bleh bleh bleh.
\zorg
\stopcomponent

and I get:

...
systems : begin file file1 at line 1
systems : begin file file2 at line 5
(file2.tex
! Undefined control sequence.

system error on line 5 in file file1.tex: Undefined control sequence
...

1 \startproduct file1
2 Bla bla bla.
3 Bla bla bla.
4 Bla bla bla.
5   \component file2
6 \stopproduct

l.5 \zorg

? q
OK, entering \batchmode
MTXrun | fatal error: return code: 1%
