[NTG-context] Unsupported Platform

2011-06-13 Thread Kip Warner
Hey folks,

I just downloaded the first-setup.sh to a machine running GNU. In
executing it, I got an error message that self suggested it be reported
to the mailing list.

$ ./first-setup.sh --extra=all
Error: your system Linux mips64 is not supported yet.
Please report to the ConTeXt mailing-list (ntg-context@ntg.nl)

Take care,

PS Please cc me if you need to contact me, as I'm not on the list.

[NTG-context] ConTeXt PPA

2011-06-13 Thread Kip Warner
Hey folks,

Adam was very kind enough to provide us with an up-to-date PPA for
ConTeXt which makes installation much easier for those of us running
Ubuntu.

https://launchpad.net/~reviczky/+archive/ppa

Thanks again Adam!

PS I am not on the list, so you'll have to cc me if you need to.

Thanks a lot for the report.

Since none of us has the ability to compile for that architecture, the
only way to include support is if somebody compiles TeX Live (2011)
binaries as soon as possible and then keeps compiling LuaTeX and
metapost for that architecture on regular basis (once per month on
average, but it is nice to have reacting time within a few days).

Are you willing to volunteer for that?

From the reference manual I don't think it is possible! Maybe another

[NTG-context] Modules inside project structure

2011-06-13 Thread Andreas Schneider
Hello,

I'm currently trying to split our ConTeXt project into smaller parts,
utilizing the ConTeXt project structure. I thought it might be a good
idea to also extract reusable parts into private modules. Now I face
the problem, that I can't find an optimal spot to place these modules.
Currently I just have them at the root of the project where I also
have the environment file that is used. That kinda works, since
\usemodule uses resolvers.findctxfile which also traverses parent
directories. Unfortunately \registerctxluafile doesn't, so the
corresponding lua file isn't loaded (which I currently circumvent with
dofile()).

I guess it might be cleaner to make use of texmf-project or something
similar, however that would require the user (who is working with
that project) to modify their TeX tree and rebuild their formats. It's
also a bit strange, since these modules are exclusive to that one
project - a new project would at least require copies of these files
anyway. So these modules should preferably lie somewhere beneath the
actual project, and not globally on the system of the user.

What would you suggest to handle such projects that should be
separated and independent from the ConTeXt installation of the
users? Would you use modules at all in that case?

Best Regards,
Andreas

[NTG-context] measuring alphabet length

Hi,

I want to measure and typeset the lower case alphabet length. The LaTeX
method doesn't work:

\newlength{\alphabetlength}
\settowidth{\alphabetlength}{abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz}

ConTeXt gives me an error saying that \newlength{...} is undefined. Is
it undefined because ConTeXt is built around TeX and not LaTeX and
\newlength is a LaTeX command (I do not know if it actually is)?

How can I do the same thing in ConTeXt?

plain TeX is ok, for example,

Use CamelCase to avoid conflits with ConTeXt names.

 In mkiv make a lua script using gsub, i.e. something like

... ok, compared to this solution it is for sure easier to manually add \crlf
:o))

The background are hundreds of URL's, which are part of regular text ... now
transformed in a complicated but working beast:
\startbuffer[myurl:01]\catcode`\%=12 \catcode`\_=12 \catcode`\=12
\catcode`\#=12\setupalign[line,block,hanging]\useURL[test][http://www.lfd.m-v.de/dschutz/beschlue/ent49.html#nr.5][][http://www.lfd.m-v.de/dschutz/beschlue/ent49.html#nr.5]\from[test]\removeunwantedspaces\stopbuffer\getbuffer[myurl:01]

If I now again add your lines of luacode too, I go crazy :o)

Is there no handy little context command that could just be pasted before the
string, like the following?
\useURL[...][...][][\ThisHelps
9769387937933hhgiuiuziuziduzid93739837fhieuhifeuhfeiu39739837938398zfhfdkuhfiufhz398739837r98z379dihhfiu]

 Thanks to both of you, all three suggestions work. However, I don't

It’s a high level version of Luigis example. The content of the box with the
text “abc…” is saved in the box nextbox which can be accessed with
\flushnextbox, the dimensions of the box are available through the command
\nextboxht, \nextboxdp and \nextboxwd.

 In your last example, does it define the command \measure just for the next
 box?

\definemeasure is a alternative to dimension and use a macro to store a length.
The first argument is the name of the length and you can access the value with
the command \measure{name} but i forgot to expand the value of the box in my
example and it should be:

\dowithnextbox
  {\expanded{\definemeasure[alphabetlength][\the\nextboxwd]}}%
   \hbox{abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz}

The key point is
 % maybe only some chars...
 %s= string.gsub(s,'[=/]',\%1\\hskip0sp)
With '[=/]'
you define a set of chars (only '=' and '/' in this example)
so that only '=' = '=\hskip0sp'
and
'/' = '/\hskip0sp'
i.e. breaks appear only on '=' and '/'.
It' possible to define whatever char you want, but you must pay attention to '%'
'#' etc. (as you do with \catcode)

[NTG-context] Placing figures flush right and captions in the margin

2011-06-13 Thread Christoph Redecker

Hi,

I want to place my figures flush right, so that they are aligned with
the right border of my text area. Captions should be in the right
margin, flush left, ragged right. It is a one-sided document.

I've tried

\setupfloats[
location=right]
\setupcaptions[
location=rightmargin,
align=flushleft,
headstyle=\tfx,
style=\tfx]
\usemodule[tikz]
\starttext
\placefigure{Test figure caption with a pretty long text which might
eventually require a line break.}{

\starttikzpicture
\draw (0,0) rectangle (2,2);
\stoptikzpicture
}
\stoptext

and the figure is placed left, and no caption is shown. When I remove
location=rightmargin, the caption is visible. Other settings I've tried:

outermargin - invisible
righthanging - invisible
right - caption is typeset in the gap between text and margin

I found this old thread:
http://archive.contextgarden.net/message/20090707.065101.8175a86c.en.html,
but it is not very enlightening.

I'm taking the options from http://pmrb.free.fr/contextref.pdf. My
ConTeXt version is 2011.06.11.

How can I place figures flush right?
How can I place the captions in the right margin?

Regards

Christoph

 Hey Mojca,

 I could, but on the condition that it doesn't require any more than a
 few minutes of my time each month because I am pretty task saturated
 already.

When sources are updated and if everything is set up properly, you
only need to run a single command from terminal (at the end you need
to provide svn password unless you configure svn to store it for you).
It takes about 10 minutes to finish compilation, but it only takes
processor time, no work for you. You can also set up a cron job to run
each night in which case there will be absolutely zero work for you
unless compilation fails.

What is more important is not to abandone the work once you start it.
It makes little to no sense to provide binaries if you happen to, say,
not have time to update the binaries for a month.

You can try
svn co http://svn.contextgarden.net/minimals-src/build-binaries

Try to run bin_update_src.sh and try to build luatex and metapost (you
can also run bin_buid.sh, but then you need to patch platform.sh
first). Usually you just hit do_all.sh.

However the first required step is to build TeX Live sources. See
http://www.tug.org/texlive/build.html

The deadline for release of TeX Line 2011 is end of June. It would be
most helpful for me if TeX Live's SVN could include binaries. Updating
TeX Live binaries is only done once per year and you might need to
repeat that two or three times within a month (when bugs are
discovered).

Can you please try if you can build the successfully?

Mojca

A few variants ...

local s = gsub(s,'.',\%1\\hskip 0sp plus .1pt)

end
local gmatch = string.gmatch

\def\ThisHelpsLuigiY#1{\ctxlua{LuigiY('#1')}}

\def\LuigiYY#1{#1\hskip\zeropoint plus .1pt\relax}

The disadvantage of the lua way is that for long strings we end up with
a lot of data collected at the lua end that gets passed to tex. Normally
this is no real problem.

Oh, btw. \su stands for Sundanese, so I strongly suggest not to use it
for units ;)

Or \language[italian] etc. I think it depends on how often one switches
language. I seldom switch fonts mid-document (using \it etc) as normally
it is done in an environment.

No. Always.

This is exactly like saying that be should refer to Dutch language,
that ch and si should refer to Italian and it should refer to
German language.

I suggest to switch the language code for Dutch into be and call the
format cont-be :)

you mean flemish (as belgium also has french) .. actually belgians
always win the language contest so maybe we should switch to be indeed -)

(which makes me wonder, as animation movies can come with dutch and
flemisch voice over, there must be such significant differences that we
might consider flemisch pattern files so it might backfire to you)

Re: [NTG-context] Unsupported Platform

 Mojca

Hey Mojca,

I think you raise some good points and this would be a useful
contribution to the project. I think the easiest thing to do would be if
I just give you a shell account on a MIPS64 machine and you can run this
yourself, if you like. I haven't much time.

If that is ok with you, please email me off the list.

Take care,
