[NTG-context] Bug in framed ...

2012-08-17 Thread Bernhard Rosensteiner
Hi all,

i think there is a bug when using rounded corners in frames (ConTeXt ver:
2012.08.16 22:20 MKIV  fmt: 2012.8.17  int: english/english). Minimal example:

\starttext

%works:
\framed[framecorner=rectangular, bottomframe=off, rightframe=off]{happy
ConTeXting!}

%bottomline and rightline should not be visible, but are:
\framed[framecorner=round, bottomframe=off, rightframe=off]{happy ConTeXting!}

%complete frame is missing, but should not be (according to the Wiki):
\framed[corner=16]{happy ConTeXting!}

\stoptext

Bernhard

 Why is that strange? \cite{...} isn't context syntax. I
 don't find it surprising that wrong usage triggers an
 error.

 I've hit the same problem, though apa doesn't seem to be affected, so in the
 meantime you can use:
 \setuppublications[alternative=apa]

[NTG-context] bug with \cite in latest beta (2011.04.13)

2011-04-14 Thread Bernhard Rosensteiner
Hello all,

there are some problems with the citecommand in the latest beta. I always get a
LuaTeX error...
Actually i was in the middle of narrowing down a bug where a \cite command in a
caption produced a entry in the publication list of the caption text (and also
made that sometimes interaction did not work with some references in the text),
so i tried to update to the latest beta and now the document does not compile
any more. Please see attached files.

Bernhard

 Just a blind guess. Some Adobe fonts use kerning groups (a set of
 characters with equal kerning on left/right), while most fonts, in
 particular all the Polish fonts/LM use just normal kerning (kerning
 defined for each pair of characters). I suspect that only kerning of
 group of characters might be broken.

how exactly should the test code look like? to reproduce it one needs the adobe
fonts.
Here are links to my testing of the adobe opticals:

Probably this does not help much but shows that the problem is not only with

 Seems I spoke too soon: I can indeed get hold of the latest version, but if I
 want an older version (like --context=2010.06.24), I run into the same
 problem as luigi. And I do want an older version, since for some reason the
 kerning is a bit screwed up on current.

confirm that with kerning

 No, that would definitely not help. Your problem was not the
 definition, but that you never actually called the macro.

 You should put the definition back, and add \Mycolor to the
 \OpticalTest macro, perhaps like so:

 \def\OpticalTest[#1]#2{%
   \addff{\OOFeature}%
\definedfont[#2 at \OOSize]%
 \setupinterlinespace
   \hbox to \textwidth{\clip[width=.39\textwidth,
  bottomoffset=\strutdepth]{%
  \Mycolor
  ..\hbox to .39\textwidth etc. etc.

i tried what you suggested (please see attachment), but i think there is
something fishy with the color black. \definecolor[Myblack][s=0] gives same
results as described above but other colors work as they should do.

When you want to use context, you need to initialize the tree by typing:

  . /Applications/ConTeXt/tex/setuptex

in your shell or add
  /Applications/ConTeXt/tex/texmf-osx-64/bin
to PATH variable if you want to set it permanently.
This can usually be done in .bashrc, .bash_profile
(or whatever file is used to initialize your shell).

i don´t know where the problem lies (obviously mtxrun is complaining).
the last update i did worked normal (ConTeXt ver: 2010.05.24 13:05 MKIV fmt:

  \definefontsynonym[MinionPro-Medium][name:MinionPro-Medium]

 \stoptypescript

 then I set up the font with

 \definetypeface [adobe] [rm] [serif] [minionpro] [regular]
 \setupbodyfont[11pt]

 This all looks fine, but then

 {\me This should be medium}

 doesn't work, and neither does \me{...} or \medium{...}. I should say that

 \definedfont[SerifMedium]

 does work though. How can I fix this, short of

 \def\me{\definedfont[SerifMedium]}

when the rest if the typescript works the problem lies here:

instead or additionally of \definealternativestyle[medium][\me][] use
\definefontalternative[me]

then the command \me should be available.
the \definealternativestyle command is only for key value pairs in style= keys
as far as i know

Maybe i have to make a extra „fontfallback-setups“ file, but i don´t know how
it is recognized by context. Please help.

Re: [NTG-context] setups in typescripts

2010-05-30 Thread Bernhard Rosensteiner
ok i have boiled it down as minimal as possible (2 files in attachment). I have
commented out line 123 in my typescript:

%\definefontsynonym[SansSubhead-SemiBold]
[file:CronosPro-SemiboldSubh]   [features=default]

so according to my \startsetups[font:optical:sans:fallback] (line 3 in
typescript) it should do:

\definefontsynonym[SansSubhead-SemiBold] [SansSubhead-Bold] (line 60 typescript)

but it doesn´t.

the line \definefontsynonym[SansSubhead-SemiBold] [SansSubhead-Bold] in my
document restores the wanted behaviour.
So \startsetups … \stopsetups don´t get loaded from the \usetypescriptfile
command.

i hope i have made it clear what i mean.

Bernhard

maybe someone can also explain how the OFF key works. the behaviour is strange

Re: [NTG-context] Example markup

2010-02-12 Thread Bernhard Rosensteiner

 Hello,

 There are examples (usually one paragraph long) in my lecture text, and I
 want them to be typeset in smaller font (\tfx). An excerpt:

 The entities in question fall into two broad categories: {\em endogenous}
 (intrinsic to the SUI itself) and {\em exogenous} (belonging to a system's
 environment).

 \example{All processes that take place inside Earth (and other planets) are
 considered endogenous. These processes make the continents migrate, push the
 mountains up, trigger earthquakes and volcanism, and are driven by the warmth
 that is produced in the core of Earth.}

 More text...

 I hesitate about how to define \example. I know about \definedescription and
 \defineenumeration, but they seem not much logically suitable to me. What
 could you advise?

 Regards,
 Vyatcheslav

Hi,

maybe you mean something like that:

\define[1]\example{\tfx#1\tfa}

\starttext

\input tufte

\example{\input tufte}

\input tufte

\stoptext

 brr, when you want to define it in this way you should use grouping, e.g.

 \define[1]\example{{\tfx#1}}

 a better solution is

 \define\example{\groupedcommand{\tfx}{}}

 because you can now write

 \example{...} and {\example ...}

 The best way is to use \definealternativestyle, e.g.

 \definealternativestyle [example] [\tfx] [\tfx]

 the command takes three arguments because you can set with
 the third argument a different behaviour in titles etc.

 A third way is \definestartstop, e.g.

 \definestartstop[example][style=\tfx]

 this creates not only the command \example but also a example
 environment where you get a smaller font.

Hi,

there is a nice LaTeX package called floatrow. Most of the things what it does
you can do with ConTeXt much more easily expect (i think) one thing: placing
more than one picture in a given width with automatic rescaling of the images
so all images in one row have the same height. This feature is really handy for

something?

 Most definately: all the details of Philipp Lehman's BibLaTeX package
 which is one of the greatest things LaTeX has to offer: multi-part
 bibliographies, lots of different citation rules, manifold idem/ibidem/
 op. cit. c handling, authoring new styles -- all solved in one single
 stroke and neatly documented.

yes, apart from floatrow i mentioned earlier biblatex features are superior.
AFAIKS the bibliography module will be rewritten and maybe will have similar
features?
nevertheless for me ConTeXt is way ahead of LaTeX!

[NTG-context] typescript question

Hello all,

i have finally made my first typescript. Since i use Adobe Opticals i was happy
to find a description on the wiki how to make a typescript for proper use.
However i have one little problem (i don´t know if i make something wrong or it
is a bug):
when i switch to an bodyfont smaller than 13pt my rm typeface don´t work
anymore (above all is ok, even opticals). The ss typeface works normally. I´ve
attached the typescripts, .tex file, log and the pdf output with some
\showbodyfont commands (12pt, 13pt, 14pt) which shows what i mean.
Honestly i have to say that i´m understanding typescripts not completely.
Please help.

[NTG-context] mailing list question/problem

2009-11-16 Thread Bernhard Rosensteiner
Hello all,

i´m new to the mailing list. i posted a few questions on the mailing list for a
while but got never an answer. The last thing i posted was in the [NTG-context]
BibTeX/Publications thread:

http://archive.contextgarden.net/message/20091115.194137.4395932d.en.html

it seems that i make something wrong with posting because i get always ignored
(see following discussion on in the mail...).

Please can somebody write back only that i can by certain that my messages
become properly posted -  thanks.

best regards
Bernhard___

 Yes, your messages are posted correctly. I think you got no reply to
 your first question because there was no minimal example (your code
 referred to a bibtex file that wasn't included). But this list is
 sometimes a bit busy, so things just get lost in the excitement of it
 all. Don't feel embarrassed to post your question again.

 I would like to add that messages without example file are much more
 likely to get 'lost'. I myself do not even look at questions on the list
 that require me to reverse engineer the input, and I suspect the same is
 true for many of the regular posters.

 Best wishes,
 Taco

Re: [NTG-context] BibTeX/Publications

2009-11-15 Thread Bernhard Rosensteiner
Hello,

i had the same problem with the refcommand=authoryears for a while. Since
nobody had an answer in the mailing list i tried to investigate the problem for
myself.
Apparently when the conversion from the bibtex file to the .bbl file takes
place the .bbl file gets the same name as the document and this, i don´t know
why, is the reason for the line break after the first parenthesis. Solution:
rename the .bbl file in whatever you want and do \input filename.bbl in your
document (delete or remove the original bibtex file from the document folder!).
For me this solution worked, but since i´m no programmer i´ve no idea to solve
this problem professionally.

best regards
Bernhard

 Hi all!

 I've two or more problems with bibliographies:

 1) look at the attached attachment, the first brace.

 I guess you mean the parenthesis. That appears to be a bug with the
 refcommands author and authoryears. If you use refcommand=authoryear, the
 output looks right. Hans, Taco?

 2) @book{b,
  title={B Titel B},
  author={Brüser}, % error - ü!!!
  year={2000},
  publisher={VS Verlag}
 }

 Something is fishy with your file. I suspect your editor doesn't really
 support utf8. If you look into the bbl-file which is produced, you'll see the
 effect. When I try here with a file in a proper utf encoding, I don't get the
 error.

 3) I want just get a typeset version of the used database (without
 \cite[a,b,c,d]), how to achieve this?

 I was going to write add criterium=all to the \setuppublications command,
 but it worketh not.

Re: [NTG-context] A few questions

2009-11-13 Thread Bernhard Rosensteiner
Hello,

following the new structure code the answer for your second question is:

\definestructureprefixset[figureprefix][section-3]
\definestructureseparatorset [septest][--,--,--,---][?]
\setupstructurecountering[way=bysection, prefixset=figureprefix,
prefixseparatorset=septest, prefixconnector=--]

explanation: with definestructureprefixset you declare a new prefix which is
always inserted when it is invoked with the prefixset key (in this case
section-3 is the section while section-2 is for example the chapter and so
on... look in the source code for more) you can have
\definestructureprefixset[figureprefix][section-2,section-3,section-4] for
example and the prefix gets inserted at the right place in your figure number.
\definestructureseparatorset [septest][--,--,--,---][?] works similar (the [?]
is in this case the fallback when no specific separator is defined for that
position). the prefixconnector is the character which gets inserted between the
figure number and the rest of the prefixes. All that prefixthings you can also
do with pagenumbers and section numbers...

i don´t know if this code will see some changes in newer context mkiv versions
because i think it is still experimental but at the moment it works.

third question: you could define a new head with \definehead then it gets a new
counter. When you only want that a specific sectionnumber is different from the
others than do: \startsection [title=dritte section, ownnumber=243]

first question: i don´t know because i don´t needed it.

hope this helps

best regards
Bernhard

 Hello,

 I have a few (I suppose easy) questions:

 1) asking about this again and again... how to setup itemization so that the
 first line were indented too?

 2) how to setup figure captions so that they include section number, like
 sectionNumber.figureNumber
 (no sub-sub-subsections)?

 3) How to start section numbering from, say, second section?

 Vyatcheslav

[NTG-context] bib module in ConTeXt MKIV - first cite problem

2009-10-07 Thread Bernhard Rosensteiner

Hello all,

following minimal example:

\usemodule[bib]
\setupbibtex[database=Grundexkursionen]
\setupheadtext[de][pubs=Literaturverzeichnis]
\setuppublications[alternative=apa-de,  numbering=yes, autohang=yes,
refcommand=author]

\unprotect\def\scAuthorname#1#2#3#4#5%
   {\bibdoif{#2}{#2\bibalternative\c!vonsep}%
\sc{#3}\bibalternative\c!surnamesep\tf
\bibdoif{#5}{#5\bibalternative\c!juniorsep}%
\bibdoif{#4}{#4\unskip}}
\protect
\def\textcite#1{\sc\cite[authoryear][#1]\tf}
\def\ccite#1{\cite[authoryears][#1]}
\setuppublicationlist[artauthor=\scAuthorname, author=\scAuthorname]

\starttext

That´s a literature test \ccite{Burrows:2003rm}. Another literature
test \textcite{Pareyvogel}. And the last literature test \ccite
{Burrows:2003rm}. That´s all.

\completepublications[criterium=all]
\stoptext

when I do it with ConTeXt MKII all is ok, but in ConTeXt MKIV the
first \cite (in my example \ccite) always breaks the line after the
first left delimiter (when i use refcommand authorstyles). Is this a
bug? Are there any workarounds? refcommand=num and refcommand=key don
´t break the lines but all others do. Thanks for help.
