Re: [onap-tsc] Edge Automation working group proposal

2018-10-12 Thread Alla Goldner
Hi,

Currently, we have TSC structured and including e.g. architecture, use case,
modelling subcommittees etc. i.e. not split per particular technical area (e.g.
Edge Automation, cloud native etc.), but per tasks the group must accomplish.
I am in favor of continuing with the existing structure.
Each of the "task forces" has no limitations on contacting with external Open
source or Standards communities. I tend to agree with Ramki we should not call
it "task force" any longer, as task force has (typically) limited timeframe and
responsibility. One way is (similar to standards) to appoint/elect Rapporteur
(we can call it coordinator or any other appropriate word) and call it "work"
or "study" item (or any other more appropriate word) - terminology is rather a
minor thing and can easily be resolved.

Best regards,

Alla Goldner

Hi Pasi and all,

Thank you for the input. I sent one response to Catherine. Our emails crossed.

This group is trying to gather requirements(such as MEC, Distributed analytics,
scaling, security, regulatory, constrained environments), figure out the
architecture with ONAP to meet those requirements, identify gaps and feed them
to various existing subcommittees. I agree that much of the output (can be new)
that comes out of Edge group may be generic in nature.

Team is also very flexible in listening for ideas on best way to take this
forward - Status Quo as it is today (working group under use case subcommittee
with additional coordinator position), Edge subcommittee or a task force under
TSC. The term 'task force' does not appeal to me as it appears that it is for a
task and give impression that it is temporary.

I don't want to get ahead of what the edge group plans to present in TSC :). I
think team will get chance to present this in next TSC and we can go from
there.

Re: [onap-tsc] Edge Automation working group proposal

2018-10-12 Thread Srini
Hi Catherine,

Thank you for the email.

Based on the discussions in last edge-automation working group and also the
slide deck, the working model is no different from current model. That is,
output of this group will be fed as another input to various other
subcommittees. So, there is no additional complexity. Group is only asking to
increase the visibility in ONAP member companies as well as to other edge
related open source projects/standard-bodies by making official ONAP entity.
Also, group provided two options. 1. Making it subcommittee 2. Increase
visibility by other means + creating coordinator position. Group preference is
option 1. But, it is up to TSC to decide.

Just for easy reference, I am adding the picture from the presentation deck.
This is the working model now and continue to be working model even after
making it as subcommittee.
