Hello, 2 years later I did finally get my changes posted for the two bugs I

[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Evergreen Self Check and Multiple Languages

2019-01-30 Thread Jennifer Pringle

Hello,

Is anyone currently running the Evergreen self check in multiple
languages or can give us guidance on how to do so?

We'd like to have the self check available in both English and French
but there doesn't appear to be a locale picker in the self check
codebase to enable French as an option. Is there a different way to
enable the translated self check?

Thanks,

Jennifer

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Evergreen Self-Check and locking media cases

2017-08-11 Thread Bill Erickson
I'm late to the thread, but wanted to chime in that we at KCLS make heavy
use of the self checkout interface. It's heavily modified, primarily for
look and feel, but we are also testing a locally coded version of bug
#1512171 (My OPAC-style renewals). Unfortunately the code is not easily
shared, since it's built atop years of customization, but we hope to
eventually rebase to the community code, so having it be part of stock EG
is something I'm interested in.

Also, when the time comes for major overhaul, I started a proof-of-concept
branch to port self checkout to Angular. It's bare bones, but mostly
works, minus a lot of edge case handling.

http://git.evergreen-ils.org/?p=working/Evergreen.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/user/berick/angular-selfcheck-exp-wip

I'll open a bug for this...

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Evergreen Self-Check and locking media cases

2017-07-26 Thread Josh Stompro
Joe, I have a fix for keeping the cursor focus always on the scan box. We also
use touch screens for our self checks and we were having trouble with the fact
that it was easy to move the focus, which would cause the next scan to silently
fail, and sometimes switch screens.
I have a bug report on it, but haven’t actually posted the code there yet.
I’ll try and do that soon.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1560601

We have also had trouble with the print list button that exists on the checkout
screen. Some significant portion of users would press that when they were
done, get a printout and then walk away. I guess they thought that was the
logout and print a receipt button. Then the next users would walk up and
sometime check out items on the first person’s account.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1555791

I would love to collaborate with you on making the self check more touch screen
friendly. I can share the css changes I’ve made just to enlarge everything to
make it easier to see and to make the buttons easier to press.

While we’re on the subject of user-friendliness of the built in self-checkout,
does anyone have any .tt2 modifications that they are pleased with and would be
willing to share?

I’ve had tweaking the scripting to make the navigation links more button like
(ie touch screen friendly) on my to-do list, but it’s taken me an especially
long time to get around to the first step of teaching myself a basic amount of
tt2 scripting.

Have a good day.

Interesting. There's nothing in the interface that tells the patron that they
can do that, or that tells them how. Patrons typically don't have books in hand
when they wish to renew, so they'd need to understand that they could go to the
Items out screen and copy and paste the barcodes. Online instructions would
help, but it still wouldn't as user friendly as the method of renewal in My
Account.

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Evergreen Self-Check and locking media cases

2017-07-26 Thread Josh Stompro
Here are links to the bugs for the issues mentioned by Terran:

1. #1512171 Wishlist: Self Check Item Renewal without item
present<https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1512171>

2. #1528685 Self-check - pay fines doesn't work with
Stripe<https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1528685>

Please comment and mark the bugs as affecting you. Also, if you have an
internal process for choosing which development projects to fund, you could add
some of the self check bugs to the list of items to consider.

We are one of the sites that heavily use the self check feature, it handles
between 50% and 90% of the checkouts at our sites. This discussion reminds me
that we need to put some time and money into improving it.

Interesting. There's nothing in the interface that tells the patron that they
can do that, or that tells them how. Patrons typically don't have books in hand
when they wish to renew, so they'd need to understand that they could go to the
Items out screen and copy and paste the barcodes. Online instructions would
help, but it still wouldn't as user friendly as the method of renewal in My
Account.

Hi Joe,

I don't have any customizations, but for the specific improvement you
mention, you might want to take a look at

https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1494748

It's available in 2.12

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Evergreen Self-Check and locking media cases

2017-07-26 Thread Rogan Hamby
Just a quick thought that regardless of where the code resided to do the
unlocking (internal to Evergreen or in a third party product) some third
party hardware would be required to do this so the inherent division
between ILS code and vendor hardware is always going to be there and
therefore it's more likely that the unlocking will remain on the side of
the hardware vendor.

That isn't to say that someone couldn't write their own native Evergreen
client to do all this with their own hardware but the task would be ...
non-trivial. :)

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Evergreen Self-Check and locking media cases

2017-07-26 Thread Terran McCanna
Hi Jesse,

I just wanted to chime in that I'm not aware of anyone who is working on
developing functionality like that. The self-check interface hasn't gotten
a lot of attention in the past few years, possibly because not a lot of
libraries are using it. (Only 2 or 3 libraries out of our 285 total
libraries that have opted to use it.) There are a number of things that
could be done to improve it which would encourage more people to adopt it,
like adding the ability to pay fines through the same functionality that
the OPAC uses, and to allow patrons to renew books through it.

Jesse

We Also have ITG self checks (Now Bibliotheca) with built in lockers and as far
as I am aware it is the self check software that activates the unlockers
depending on the SIP response received from the ILS server.

Subject: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Evergreen Self-Check and locking media cases

Hello Everyone,

Currently we are running an ITG self-check system that utilizes magnetic
locking cases for DVDs and CDs. I know the documentation references no security
mechanisms in Evergreen self-check, but I was wondering if there is a way for
the Evergreen self-check to interact/activate the magnetic unlockers for
security cases? Is this a sought after feature/planned possibility? Or is the
built in self-check designed to be nothing more than its current basic form?

Thanks in advance,

[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Evergreen Self Check

2016-09-29 Thread Joan Kranich
Hi,

I have a few problems with using the Evergreen self check that I haven't
been able to solve.

1. Often times after checking out when I click Logout the tracking bar
just hangs and nothing prints. I have enabled pop-ups and set my receipt
printer as the default. The library has open hours entered in the org
unit. The computer will print to the printer. It's just a problem after
checking out items in the self check. This is more of a problem in Firefox
than Chrome.

2. Using Firefox if I assign workstation then when I try to log in with
the staff login I get Login Failed. If I do not assign a workstation the
login works.

https://[hostname]/eg/circ/selfcheck/main?ws=[workstation name]

[hostname] is my server and I do enter a real workstation name at the end.

Testing today was on 2.10.5. A library experiencing these problems is
using 2.9.5.

Thank you for any tips.
