What version of TOAD, Oracle server and Oracle client? See Metalink article 34779.1 for details on your bug, which may be fixed in releases 8.1.7.3, 9.0.1.2 and 9.2.0.1. By default it's set to 'choose' - but if try to use it for looking at locks (or most any ddl) it will take forever to come back -you have to go to the options menu and pick 'rule' for optimzer modeon ddl queries. Re: Re: ora-600 question
Hi! Just for the record, in 9.2 some views such dba_extents use ordered and use_nl hints, which force usage of CBO. If you don't have statistics calculated nor optimizer_dynamic_sampling set to at least 2, then you'll be using CBO with default statistics, which usually are quite misleading. Re: Re: ora-600 question
If there're already hints like ordered and use_nl that tell Oracle how to join, lack of statistics is less of a problem. In fact, you may need to use those two hints in some queries against data dictionary even in pre-9i Oracle. Yong Huang --- Tanel Poder [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi! RE: ORA-600 Error [Possible Data Loss]
We have found the cause of the problem. If populate the varray for a row with 100 values, copy that data to a temporary table and then perform split and exchange partition operations everything is fine. However if we populate the varray with 1000 values for a row and then perform the same operations. Selecting from the partition results in the error. For those wanting details ... create or replace type int_values as varray(16384) of number(38); create table arch_wave_i (pv_id number(38), timestamp date, nanosecs number(9), stat number(8), sevr number(8), ostat number(16), value int_values) partition by range (timestamp) ( partition first values less than (TO_DATE('01/01/2003 00:00:00', 'mm/dd/ hh24:mi:ss')), partition bin values less than (MAXVALUE) ); create index archive_wave_index on archive_wave_i (timestamp, pv_id) local; create table arch_wave_i (pv_id number(38), timestamp date, nanosecs number(9), stat number(8), sevr number(8), ostat number(16), value int_values) partition by range (timestamp) ( partition first values less than (TO_DATE('01/01/2003 00:00:00', 'mm/dd/ hh24:mi:ss')), partition SEP1803 values less than (TO_DATE('09/19/2003 00:00:00', 'mm/dd/ hh24:mi:ss')), partition bin values less than (MAXVALUE) ); create index arch_wave_i_index on arch_wave_i (timestamp, pv_id) local; To create the error To recreate the problem: 1. Re: ORA-600 Error [Possible Data Loss]
Hi! I'm on thin ice here, but I think KO means some sort of object layer (KOC is Kernel-Object-Cache module as far as I understand), so koxsisz1 has probably something to do with objects as well (thus not caching, x might mean execute or transaction or anything else:). On the other hand, varrays are somewhat related to objects as well, at least in sense that they are data structures, not basic datatypes. (This one probably won't work, but try to temporarily increase OBJECT_CACHE_MAX_SIZE_PERCENT and OBJECT_CACHE_OPTIMAL_SIZE in your session (put first one to 1000 and second one to 1048576 for example). Maybe there are some specific problems with caching your varray in client side, but as I said I doubt it will help (but it's easy to try out).) Otherwise, try to isolate those varrays causing you problem. Are all varrays in SEP1603 partition unusable? Only some of them? Only new ones? Are any other partitions affected? One more way would be to take one working record and insert it to new partition. If now the new record gets unusable again, it's possible to take relevant blockdumps for both these records, to see whether theres any difference in low-level data. For summary, since you had some file IO errors (as shown by DBV), you might have corrupted your data during the move operation. Maybe some disk controller or memory caused this error... Hi. This error signals a potential data corruption, but, examine the other messages for a more complete description of the problem. about the ora-12008 A number of events could cause this problem, among them the following: The master table no longer exists. A column was added to the master table, and the view was not altered. The master is at a remote site and inaccessible. Also suggest you try changing the refresh of the snapshot for FAST or you may need to generate an event 10046 trace so youcan see exactly which statement is failing. Alessandro Guimarães P.S. RE: ORA-600
This is an error that occurred while recovering from a rolled back transaction. Not a database recovery. This could be caused by doing a control-c while trying to truncate a large table (Bug 1400739 fixed in 8.1.7.1). Could also be from an undo operation on a leaf key of a bitmap index. You should be able to tell this from the trace file. Either way I would open a TAR with Oracle Support to get a proper diagnosis from the trace files. Ultimately, it looks like you have some form of rollback segment corruption, likely block corruption in your rollback tablespace. I would strongly suggest that you open a tar with Oracle Support. Check your alert log for related trace files, in particular SMON trace files. In the mean time check out Metalink note 28814.1 regarding dealing with block corruptions just to get an idea of the possible implications (e.g. logical data corruption). RE: Ora-600
Ravi - I'm assuming you want the ORA-600 Argument Lookup feature. It appears to be associated with Note:153788.1. I can click on the link and get the screen to appear, but it doesn't update the address part of the browser, so I don't know how to give you specific directions. RE: ORA-600 [3708] During Database SHUTDOWN
Vivek: Oracle Support is right. THis is a typical LGWR problem. The first thing you should do is.. You need to reduce the size of Log Buffer (it should be in KBs.. While shutdown, Oracle routine (kcttsc()) sends a message to LGWR to change the state of a redo thread and waits for confirmation. If the return message never comes, then LGWR times out after 15 minutes which is the second argument in the ora-600 (910 secs ie. 15mins.) In the situation we faced , lgwr had RT enqueue and waiting for 'direct path read' on file 197. Becuase of some OS issues the read took more than 15 minutes and lgwr gave a timeout. There is a workaround to keep a underscore init parameter to overcome any OS issues and tell lgwr to wait for more time. But this is suggested only after checking OS for any performance issues. RE: ORA-600 and ORA-603 issues with dlm resource hash list
hmmm..HP do a man -k dlm and find something like 'dlmstats'. It'll be a 'big' command with lots of cmd line flags. That should get/find you lock up/down converts. Go to the specifics from there. Expect to find most of your converts are from null to shared, or vice versa...then, an order magniture (at least) fewer from shared to exclusive, etc. That's normal. Most decent dlmstats utilities will give you rudimentary waits and statistics. See if everything seems copacetic there. There are (although i honestly do NOT think this is your issue) UDP internode comms parameters that might be optimized up to, say, 256K-size send/receive buffers. What I'd look at is is the OS dlm version and patching and *its* kernel settings. I know nothing about HP, so maybe one of the truly informed on the list can chime in on that. If, OTOH, you are in a version of Oracle that internalizes the dlm (9i for sure, e.g.) then you'll likely have more knobs and dials to twist there. hope these hazily recalled, partially correct, and potentially irrelevant comments prove useful, if only as an example of what *not* to do. - Ross -Original Message- Sent: Monday, December 17, 2001 12:20 PM To: Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-L Ross, The HP info for one of the two nodes is, HP-UX proteus B.11.00 U 9000/800. RE: ORA-600 and ORA-603 issues with dlm resource hash list
Paul, I missed your original thread on this problem, but I suggest you call support. The problem you are seeing may be related to bug# 2009263. I am making some assumptions that you are running on HP 64bit and you are running on either 8.1.6 or 8.1.7. There are some little things you might need to know. In 8.1.7 lm_lock and lm_ress parameters can't be set using the syntax you have used below and the _lm_direct_sends parameter should be set to all which is the default or just removed. The bug 1189628 only appears to cause problems with tru64 or HP 64bit OPS and there is a patch for the problem. Setting _lm_direct_sends forces Oracle to use only 1 message channel and this can become performance issue. Hope this helps, Scott --- Mohan, Ross [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: just out of curiosity, what flavor of Unix? Re: ORA-600 when querying DBA_SOURCE, ALL_SOURCE.
oracle's answer will be patch to 8.1.7.2, thats what we were told just recently on a different ora-600 error. Whenever we try to query any of the *_SOURCE views we get an ORA-600. If you look at the view text for DBA_SOURCE: select u.name, o.name, decode(o.type#, 7, 'PROCEDURE', 8, 'FUNCTION', 9, 'PACKAGE', 11, 'PACKAGE BODY', 13, 'TYPE', 14, 'TYPE BODY', 'UNDEFINED'), s.line, s.source from sys.obj$ o, sys.source$ s, sys.user$ u where o.obj# = s.obj# and o.owner# = u.user# and o.type# in (7, 8, 9, 11, 13, 14) union select u.name, o.name, 'JAVA SOURCE', s.joxftlno, s.joxftsrc from sys.obj$ o, x$joxfs s, sys.user$ u where o.obj# = s.joxftobn and o.owner# = u.user# and o.type# = 28; I can query either side of the UNION separately and it works fine. It is an error of latch contention. IT IS NOT AN CORRUPTION ERROR. Maybe in those times when the error occurred you were experimenting some sort extent pool latch contention. Therefore identify for the next time identify which session is causing the contention and what it is running with v$session_wait, v$latch and v$sqltext or v$sqlarea. Or try with temporary local extent management. Re: ora-600 ..sort extent pool??
Raghu: What I have found suggests that you are having latch contention on the SORT EXTENT POOL. The 510 indicates that a call was made to free a latch that is unowned. The second parameter is the address for that latch. The third argument is the type of child latch that the kernel was trying to free. Oracle processes doing sorting that require access to a sort segment in a temporary tablespace are coordinated by a SHARED POOL structure called the SORT EXTENT POOL. This structure contains a description of all of the active sort segments and their extents in the sort segment. Access to this structure is controlled by the SORT EXTENT POOL latch. Your problem could be due to latch contention on this latch. You can view the statistics on this latch by joining v$latch and v$latchname on latch#. To reduce contention on this latch, increase the extent size by changing the NEXT value of the DEFAULT STORAGE clause of the temporary tablespace in which you are sorting. Re: ora-600
Thank you Deshpande, It's nice to hear good results. I genarally recommend search depth=1. Search depth=0 may return a lot of bugs and it may take time to find which one is yours. And, You may not see all bugs. It depends on your license and bug status. Many bugs are un-published(not only bugs, but also everythingl. This list has more internals than Metalink). If iOraBugFinder returns no hit, email Oracle support with HTML or URL returned by iOraBugFinder. Since Oracle support can see all bugs, That will reduce your support response time from Oracle support. I added new features on 1.0.1 version. It's now better to find bugs. If you have any recommendations, please feel free to contact me. "Deshpande, Kirti" wrote: Hi, It generally means Contat Oracle Support. RE: ora-600
Kevin, ORA-600's and ORA-7445's are very similar in some respects in that they are related to the death of a process. ORA-600's are essentially exception handlers so there are literally thousands of different ORA-600's. Some errors are signaled in only one situation, others can occur in hundreds of cases. An ORA-7445 is merely the Oracle error assigned to the return code when the OS terminates the process (bad process!). BTW, ORA-7445's are not signaled on NT, NetWare or Linux. Instead, the following errors are signaled: Dr. Watson errors (NT), abends (NetWare) or Errors in file... entries in the alert.log and trace files containing Exception signal... (Linux). With ORA-600's the first argument is very specific, so when searching on metalink include the first argument. Any additional arguments are specific to the environment (DBA's, object ID's, memory addresses, etc...) so they should not be searched on since they are unlikely to be the same. The arguments on ORA-7445 errors are usually irrelevant as they are frequently generic ([SIGSEGV], [SIGBUS], [Address not mapped to object], [Invalid address alignment] etc...). If you can identify the type of operation generating the error, then it helps to search on that along with the error. In some cases this will be in the trace file under the heading Current SQL statement for this session. These errors frequently indicate bugs, but can also occur due to other reasons such as hardware/OS problems, corruption, or incorrect environment settings. For example, a corrupt block can signal an ORA-600 error because the information in the header of the block is out of sync. The best way to determine the cause of these errors is to log a tar with support as much of the information in the bugs is viewable only to support. They will need the alert.log (preferably going back to the last startup, but at least the last 3-10 days) along with the trace files generated (upload the whole file, don't just cut and paste portions of it). In the case of multiple errors in the alert.log, supply the trace files from the first couple of errors as often the first error can cause cascading errors. If a trace file is not generated by an ORA-7445, then you should try to extract a stack trace from the core file (see notes 1812.1 and 1007808.6). This needs to be done using the executables that generated the core file, so don't bother sending the core file to support. I'm developing this into a presentation that I hope to present at OpenWorld (ORA-3113's, 600's, and 7445's Oh My!) so please feel free to send me questions or topics I should cover. Re: ora-600
I worked with RDBMS support in Oracle Denmark for far too many years, and I'm not that scared of 600's anymore. To provoke a bit, I find that they are in general harmless, and then in some cases indicate serious stuff. When looking at Oracle source code, you will (if you ever get the chance :) ) see this kind of thing: If then signal ORA-942 (or rather OERR(00942)) if something unforeseen happens, signal 600 with specific arguments (OERI(17112)) Else... signal ORA-1000 (OERR(01000)) Of course I'm making up these numbers, but the two functions called are OERR for normal errors and OERI for Oracle ERror Internal. So the ora-00600 [17112] is because the normal error codes couldn't handle the situation. So the first argument for an ora-600 error is the error code and is indeed specific for a certain part of the Oracle code. Support/Development can easily look up where in the code this is signalled, but it can be very difficult to find out why it was signalled (I'm saying this, because I rarely could figure it out - of course all the smart types could, but I couldn't). In the case of ORA-00600 [17112], however, I do have some notes: Internal heap errors/corruptions: [17066] [17112] [17114] [17148] [17182] E.g. BAD MAGIC NUMBER in trace file So look in the trace file for BAD MAGIC NUMBER and you will know that a problem occurred in the heap. There can of course be a lot of reasons for this magic number to give errors when computed. Check the bug database or Support for specifics. But it's not fatal or anything. A. RE: ora-600
Raghu, as Mladen said .. it means that u have hit an oracle bug.. generally the first parameter tells Oracle what code path encountered the bug. Other parameters are specific and relavant measures that might vary based on what the first parameter is. In addition, ora-600 is accompanied by a trace file that dumps a lot of crap in addition to the stack tace that is nothing but the sequence of kernel calls that lead to the failure.. hth Deepak -Original Message- Sent: Monday, June 04, 2001 2:47 PM To: Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-L It means that you should be calling 1-800-223-1711 and have your CSI ready instead of having fun on this mailing list.. -Original Message- Sent: Monday, June 04, 2001 4:11 PM To: Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-L Hi Friends What does it mean?? One of my fellow employees just called me and told me that the production instance at a clients site just went down with ORA 600. He said that it said in paren's, (with complications). Now what in the good lords name does that mean? I looked on Metasuck and I haven't seen anything. Is the only answer to call support, or just hammer away until he figures it out? Anyone seen this before. And yes I know, it 8.1.5 on NT.. Re: ORA-600 and iOraBugFinder available
Hi, it's a a good news... and, It's not possible to suggest a bug number. but, bugs are ordered by metalink's score. to narrow down problem, select high level search depth and read high scores first. Rajesh Dayal wrote: Sorry for the delay. Yes you are quite right on this. SHMMAX had a value of 40 M, which I changed to suggested value and things are OK now. We would be benefited more, if these various levels are explained to list. I tried once more generating report through the Tool but it doesn't suggest me about any bug no. directly. Hope this will start working soon perfectly. I am sure this tool would be of great help in crisis. Zabair I have no idea of argument 17090 but 15212 appeared on our database last week. We have HP-UNIX 11.0.32 with 8.1.6.2.
