Re: [Origami] "Korean Crane" designer?
보낸 사람: Bonnie Hurley via Origami 대신 Origami 보낸 날짜: 2021년 12월 30일 목요일 오전 3:37 받는 사람: origami@lists.digitalorigami.com 제목: [Origami] "Korean Crane" designer? Several years ago, a Korean Crane pattern was included in Margaret Van Sicklen's Page-a-day origami calendar. No designer was named. It's a crane that sits well and has a thicker chest and tail than the traditional Japanese crane does. I'm looking for the name of the designer and the reason for naming it 'Korean.' Bonnie Hurley, Older Folder Have without holding: catch and release. Dear Bonnie Hurley This shape of crane is also traditional as I know. I'm not sure why it named 'Korean', In Korea, educational origami is very popular since 1989, Korea Origami Association(https://origami.or.kr/) founded. It's not strange that kind of variation occured... Sincerely, jassu from Korea

It's on page 22-27. The publication date is 2009. No model credits are given except on the last page of the book, it says, in addition to giving thanks and credit to several people for other contributions, "...special thanks to the origami artists and creators who consented to the inclusion of their original designs in this book: Dokuhotei Nakano: (pgs) 26, 28, 66, 74; and Isamu Asahi: (pgs) 70, 73, 76, 80, 83, 86. - No credit for the model on pg 22. - I assume from this that Mari Ono considers the "Koma spinning top" to be traditional. Or it may be that they just don't know who is the designer. - I also have a handwritten note at the top of pg 22, that tells me that someone, doesn't say who, told me in approx 2012, that the design is attributed to one Aso Reiko. - It's a great design; wish I knew more about it. - I would guess that "Makoto-koma" means Makoto's Spinning Top. . from Chila Caldera ///

Re: [Origami] Name of these models and their creators?
Dear Gerardo This is my investigation about Origami spining top, at 8 May 2019. https://blog.naver.com/titan101/221532361589 - About the author of Origami spining top(Paper blade, おりがみコマ) day/month/year 5/3/2007 The view that it is a variation of the Himauri brooch(ひまわりのブローチ) by Kyoko Nakahara(中原恭子), which was included in the Moving Origami(動くおりがみ)(1992) by Tomoko Fuse(布施知子) https://gayasan.exblog.jp/5993471/ ※But I think brooches and tops are different areas so should be viewed separately. 1/25/2007 Tanteidan Magazine No.101 - Makoto Yamaguchi(山口真) announced it named 'Makoto koma(マコトコマ)' http://www.origami.gr.jp/Magazine/Index/97-102.html 9/1/2006 There is a record of making a top by three pieces of paper in the NOA monthly origami magazine 374(月刊おりがみ 374号). https://www.fujisan.co.jp/product/1281681367/b/117643/ 8/21/2006 She learned it from the Silver Lessons. http://blog.livedoor.jp/fmtouch/archives/50671367.html 6/8/2006 She saw it at the Center https://plaza.rakuten.co.jp/nyginnofue/diary/200606080001/ - 1. 1st publication is Makotama by Yamaguchi Makoto, 2007-1-25 2. Re: [Origami] korean cranes
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4BlI8IYkDc Oh, I have seen it before. I asked people about this crane. I'll gather more information and tell you soon. Sincerely, jassu from Korea

[Origami] Question about old chinese origami example
Dear O-L I found many website mention that 'yuan bao origami' is the oldest example and it may be started around A.D.1000. I have purchased and read 'Up in Flames(by Ellen Johnston Laing, Helen Hui-Ling Liu)' as a reference, and also tsien tsuen-hsuin (1985). paper and printing. https://monoskop.org/images/7/7d/Needham_Joseph_Science_and_Civilisation_in_China_Vol_5-1_Chemistry_and_Chemical_Technology_Paper_and_Printing.pdf As far as I know, yuan bao is the money (made by gold or silver) of Ming dynasty(A.D.1368~1644). People of Song dynasty had burned paper money for their ancestors but I can't find the evidence it's folded one. Does anyone have more information about the evidence of old chinese origami? [Origami] Case about a Japanese origamist and a TV station --- I'm interested in writing an article about origami models and intellectual property. http://www.keisenassociates.com/japanese-origami-artist-loses-copyright-battle-against-television-station-2/ Do any of you know a bit more about the case? Gerardo, neorigami.com --- That is about *Transformed spinning top* of Mr.Yamada Katsuhisa. Nippon TBS Televsion had made it's diagram(renewaled) public in website, June 27, 2010, and deleted it after 10 days by the author's complaint. Summary of the result: 1) The Original diagram of Mr.Yamada Katsuhisa is copyrighted work. 2) The renewaled version is not infringement of 1) a. 1) use arrow for the folding but 2) use circle numbering for folding. (I'll send image files to Gerardo personally) b. 1) use pictures for explanation but 2) does not. c. There is a new tip in 2) d. It is impossible to finish the model by 2), becuase of error step. 3) No author's moral right infringement becuase of 2)a.b.c.d. 4) About the injury of business interests from distribution without authors agreement, is unadmitted because of 2)a.b.c.d. Also TBS had took follow-up measures such as apology, making introduction of author's book and hyperlink to author's website. ***Thanks to Anne LaVin.
