Re: No Speed Camera warning.

2022-09-23 Thread Massimo Mula
Hi Jon,
OsmAnd has very basic map editing capabilities: you can just add some POI
you may encounter along the way (i.e. a restaurant), it has no capability
at all for what concerns editing existing objects or creating new, complex
ones, as a relation is. So, unfortunately, you need to use a real OSM
editor to manage that.

One thing you can try is to make it announcing POIs along the calculated
route, you can set this in Configure Profile -> Navigation settings ->
Voice prompts.
The Problem is that this way every POI you're approaching will be
announced, restaurants, cafes, shops, drinking water fountains, etc.; it
can become quite messy when driving across an urban area.

If you want a specific announcement for cameras only, I would recommend to
use CamSam: it can run in parallel with OsmAnd and you can also have a
small widget superimposed to the OsmAnd navigation screen (paid version
only).
CamSam is free for fixed cameras, while the paid version will also report
mobiles (BTW, make sure it's legal in your Country to have such
announcements).

Kind regards,
Max

Re: OsmAnd+ 4.1 and SD card

2022-02-22 Thread Massimo Mula
Hi there,
when you select "manually specified" as the directory for data storage, you
are likely going to mess with issues wit Access Permissions.

In all Unix/Linux-like file systems (and Android is in effect a variant of
Linux), when a directory is created, access to it is granted only for the
user who created it (the "owner"); Separate permissions are used for
reading, writing and executing programs from it; also, the same permissions
can be extended to the users belonging to the same "group" as the owner, or
to "other users" (for more info, you can just check some basic tutorial
like this: https://www.geeksforgeeks.org/permissions-in-linux/ : there are
plenty around the internet)

Basically, the error shown by OsmAnd when you select such a directory is
happening because permissions to access that particular directory have not
been set properly.

In order to solve it, you would need to edit the permissions with an
advanced file manager, i.e. Total Commander, or with the chmod command
through a textual Console session, if you are brave enough, by setting them
to "rwx rwx rwx" (aka "777").

Problem is that also an advanced file manager or Console might have limited
access to the directory, if you're not accessing as a root/super-user,
hence the limitations experienced by many people.

My personal choice for OsmAnd would be setting the storage to "external 1"
(storage partition integrated into the device's memory support), of it's
bug enough (i.e.128GB) or "external 2" (partition on expansion Micro-SD
card), if available. In that case, OsmAnd itself should ask for access
permission (just grant it), but more limitations may be present due to
vendor-imposed "security" choices.

Hope this helps,
Max

They fixed a number of issues in v. 4.1.11, most likely that was one.

I tried too on my phone ( Samsung Galaxy A50, Android 11 ):

- I have *GPS S* installed and working : if I tap the GPS status
button in OsmAnd (I have v.4.1.9), a list of GPS helper apps shows up,
 and *GPS
S* is listed among them;

- I select *GPS Status and Toolbox* but I get a popup saying the
app is not installed (false, it is) and asking me to download it from
market (Google Play store). Of course, once Play Store is opened, I see
 no
"Install" button but "Open" instead (as I said, the app is already
 present
and properly works if I run it from the Home);

- The same happens even if *GPS Status & Toolbox* is already
launched and running in background.

Guess there's some issue with this feature.

 Max

I tried by pressing the GPS-Status in the upper right corner and

Didn't work. Uninstalled it, installed it again -> No joy.

Re: Online google maps in osmand. Pls Help to enable

2020-08-02 Thread Massimo Mula
Hi james,
basically, the idea was:
1 - get a working http link inJOSM. After trying around a bit, I managed to
find a way to display the " Cartografia di base - IGM 25.000" layer.
I tried it again, and found that a good one is:

http://wms.pcn.minambiente.it/ogc?map=/ms_ogc/WMS_v1.3/raster/IGM_25000.map=image/png=TRUE=1.3.0=WMS=GetMap=CB.IGM25000.32=={proj}={width}={height}={bbox}

(BTW, this will only display half of the Italian peninsula, to show the
other half you need to request layer "CB.IGM25000.33"

2 - Carefully copy the link into OsmAnd "Map Source" and set the online map
source as a layer (underlay map, overlay map, etc.)

I tried it again, today, but it doesn't seem to work.
Unfortunately, it was a long time ago when I managed to display that layer:
It could have been OsmAnd v. 1.something.
Since then, the app has changed a lot and I'm not sure this is possible
anymore.

Looking for a possible hint, I've found this post on GitHub:
https://github.com/osmandapp/Osmand/issues/4201

Looks like a possible workaround is to run a custom server that forwards
the requests from OsmAnd to the proper WMS server. Nothing officially
supported, however.

Maybe, in the future, this feature will be (re-)implemented? After all,
there's a lot of WMS services around and it could be very useful to have
them at hand! :)

Kind regards,
Max

Actually, OsmAnd implements different navigation modes and presents them to
the user as "profiles": you can also create your own, if you are not
satisfied with the provided ones, by "mixing" the features you like: just
check menu *Settings -> Manage app profiles -> (+ Add)* button.

Best things,

Re: Issues with GPS fix in mountain areas

2019-08-18 Thread Massimo Mula
Could it be some issue related to energy saving in your device?
You can try looking into Applications and/or Battery settings: if one of
the apps using the GPS receiver is set to be put to sleep automatically,
just change the settings to "never sleep" (menu and options names may be
different depending on the Android version you have)

BTW: AGPS only works when a network connection is available, since it
downloads from there all the data almanacs that would be received from the
satellites (download only takes a couple seconds, receiving on-the-air
from satellites would require several minutes).
You can update data via AGPS when you are in the village: they will then be
valid for several days (7 if I remember well), even if no network is
present.

Max

Because this is OpenStreetMap, Not Google Map.

OSM is an Open foundation: data produced by OSM mappers are released under
Open license and available to *anyone* who requires them... Google included
(even though I'm not sure they use them).

Google data are released under commercial license, so if you map for GMaps
you are working for Google, if you map for OSM you are working for everyone
i the world (just guess to whom I am a mapper).

Re: (old) Legacy Search ist lost

thing we're looking for (street, city, store, lake, river, ...)

Yes, this is exactly what I intended!
No need to show up streets, squares and PDI when user is looking for a
city/town.

BTW, if you do a POI search, it is already possible to choose the desired
categories (i.e. Food, Accommodation, Parking, Sport, etc.): cities, towns,
hamlets and streets/squares should be considered as "categories" as well...

Re: Important discrepancy between OSM and Osmand map (Padua, Italy)

2018-05-28 Thread Massimo Mula
Ciao,
Scusa il ritardo ma ho trovato solo ora il tuo messaggio nella mia mailbox!

In effetti mappare in modo dettagliato è abbastanza impegnativo.

buona? :)

In ogni caso quest'attività mi sta prendendo abbastanza, considerando che
me ne occupo nelle pause-pranzo e la sera tardi.
OSM, ecc
Il divertimento non manca di certo. :)

A presto!
Max

Re: Country or region files

2016-10-09 Thread Massimo Mula
I think the problem is in the Java version you are using, try updating it
to the latest version.

Or, maybe, there's some issue with OsmAndMapCreator, you actually get the
latest nightly version from their site, so it's possible, sometimes, to
download a non-working executable; retry in the next days and maybe you'll
be more lucky...

I'm not at home now, but if you want I can send you a copy of the working
version I'm using, once I'm back.

Btw, consider you'll need LOTS of free RAM ): cjrrently it takes about 8-10
Gigabytes to to generate a full map of Italy.

Regards,
Max
