Re. "Screen on/off at turns".
Thank you Majka, you are right, I had not noticed.
It still seems to be missing at version 3.3.6. (Or have I missed
something?)
Can anyone offer a solution?

Re: two feature suggestions/things that bug me

2019-03-20 Thread Majka
Just be careful, with the latest Play Store version the screen on/off
feature seems to be missing. We can thank Google again
- https://github.com/osmandapp/Osmand/issues/6675

For the mount: I am using cheap mount with clamp, where the additional
silicon holder is finn-like, works perfect and holds the phone without
complicating the manipulation with the phone. I have no problem with it,
even on trails, for a road bike, I could use just the clamp. Not even our
potholed roads make a problem. Using poly-bag (or for more "weight" clear
freezer bag which can be reused more easily) when it is raining works fine
as well.

I use the finn as well. Very nice, very simple, universal and they are even
cheap. Before this one I had a "brand specific" one for my previous Samsung.
It was quite expensive and not universal.
The finn can be ordered by most internet shops.

Hello Gildo Schuster.

your phone is rain-proof. If not, tuck a polythene bag over the front &

two "Finns" (in case one failed), and I'm still using the first! It can be

There is another solution I like for wet weather is "Topeak Smartphone

Re, 2, 3, 4, 5.
To keep my phone running OsmAnd all day (eg 8 hours full-on navigation) I
use a combination of methods.
a) Always use Voice Navigation.
b) Always turn screen off, but first set it to come on automatically for 10
seconds at each voice announcement - That is plenty to see the nuances of
tricky junctions.
c) If bright sunshine requires the use of full screen brightness; (i)
you've got the voice announcements doing their thing; (ii) attach a solar
charger/battery - One about the same size as the phone itself makes for
easy packing, and will have enough area for charging. Its internal battery
will tide you over any dull periods. You won't need a waterproof one
because when the sky is cloudy you can turn down the screen brightness!
ie. When you can't get enough sunshine for the solar charger, you don't
need the brightness full up.
QED?

Good luck

Re: two feature suggestions/things that bug me

2019-02-23 Thread Poutnik Fornntp

I do not use Osmand much these days,
using LocusMap Pro + BRouter,
with Locus pronouncing BRouter navigation hints for Locus.

AFAIK OsmAnd does have the voice navigation guidance system to use it
for its native routes,
or to follow we the navigation hints for Osmand
embedded in imported BRouter routes.

( In contrary to LocusMap, Osmand does not support transfer of BRouter
hints via navigation interface to 3rd party routing engines )

Dne 23. Ășnora 2019 20:31:25 Gildo Schuster napsal:

2) One big problem with navigation apps for (long distance) cycling is the
huge screens that todays smartphones come with. They consume so much
energy, that one has to reduce the brightness. This however comes at the
expense of the visibility of smaller objects, such as the indicators
(making them larger would perhaps make the map appear crowded).

Ps.: I know that this is a lot to ask for.
