plan a route wiht map markers and use it with navigation

2023-07-19 Thread fixifoxy
I proceeded as follows:
-chose map markers. 2 Markes were shown. Start and Destination
-click more
-plan a route
-select profile
-options (should offer the option . new file?)
-select navigation
-details
-save as new track
Most of the time I show the track on the map and ride my track.
This time I started on my new track and selected navigation.
And was astonished that Osmand started anew calculating a track.
Seeing this I recorded it.
See all this in the Zip-File.

Map markers interfering with fully clearing a route?

2019-03-13 Thread Bart Eisenberg
I know this sounds crazy, so I'd appreciate someone confirming or refuting.
On 3.3.4, if I have one or more map markers displayed - and I clear a route
- pressing the directions button again seems to automatically re-navigate
the route. Which means I'm not seeing the redesigned directions screen with
its Previous routes and History. Clearing the map markers fixes the
problem.

Thank you very much for your quick and detailed response.

Yes, exporting markers before OsmAnd quits working is the right way to do,
and had I known that it would not allow me to restart it, I had saved the
markers just before the incident.

Maybe it would be a good suggestion to save map markers automatically
(similar to the saving of the favourites), such that they are accessible
even if OsmAnd refuses to get started.

But anyhow: I do like OsmAnd very much. Thanks again for your response!

I'm afraid the map markers are gone. These are in the hidden (for user not
accessible) /data/data directory in a database. Unless you export these
(see next), this will be deleted on app uninstall, and on new install, a
new (empty) direcory will be created.

For the future:
You can save the map markers as gpx file. The suggested name is
Markers__MM_DD in the Osmand/tracks/map markers subdirectory.

If you have lot of map markers, OsmAnd will get slower. It is best to save
these as gpx file, and open it as needed. The gpx file works better than
the map markers.

How to recover map markers?

2018-11-12 Thread 'Werner Weichert' via Osmand

Hello,
I'm using OsmAnd Plus since long and always loved it. I am using version
3.1. always with the latest updates on a Samsung S5.

End of last month, I went on vacation to southern France, having downloaded
the map files of the area before.

After having arrived in southern France, I used OsmAnd Plus for some
navigation, but mainly using the map marker feature to remember the precise
location of sightseeing, landmarks and other places visited.

All of a sudden, OsmAnd Plus started to heavily slow down. I finished and
restarted it, no help. I also turn off and on the mobile phone, but OsmAnd
Plus kept working vey slow. However I still continued to use it, just
had to spend more time for every action. However, when moving the map or
zooming it, OsmAnd quit working (died completely) after approximately 3 or
4 move or zoom actions. I still used OsmAnd Plus for another 2 or 3 days,
until all of a sudden OsmAnd Plus stopped working at all. Whenever I tried
to start it, it gave me an error message and immediately died.

>From this moment on I could not use OsmAnd Plus at all!!!

To try to get OsmAnd Plus back into operation as quickly as possible, I
uninstalled OsmAnd Plus and reinstalled it. And yes, it worked fine again.

However I had lost my favourites and my map markers!

I was able to recover my favourites because I had saved my
favourites-backup file before uninstalling. From that i could at least
recover my favourites.

However, I could not find the location of my map markers and therefore was
not able to to save and later restore my (more than 150!) map markers. They
seem to be unrecoverably lost.

For any future mishappening, I would like to be able to also save and later
recover my map markers, but to able to do that, I would need to understand
where the map markers are saved.

Therefore: Can somebody please let me know where (in what file and possibly
what format) the map markers are kept, such that I may avoid a similar
desaster in future incidents. Please note that it does not help to
recommend to export/import of the map markers, since I can no longer use
export when OsmAnd is not willing to be started.

Thanks in advance for every bit of help!

Werner

There is a solution. First place the marker flag and then long press the
flag, then move the orange symbol and APPLY. This way you can move all
already placed marker flags.

Each marker in history must be cleared individually. I think the general
idea is that, as these markers aren't displayed on the map, there's little
need to clear them.

Re: map markers

The "Change marker position" menu selection, which you can also get to with
a long press, was a way to precisely position the orange marker. It's a
useful function that no longer seems to work. Instead, the Apply button
simply returns to the orange marker's original position, leaving it
unchanged. See my video, above. The Change Position function does still
works forMap Markers and Favorites. But for the orange marker, this feels
like a bug. I think that either the menu selection should be removed, or,
preferably, the function should be restored.

The marker reverts back to the original spot.

Favorites to Map Markers problem in v2.8

2017-10-29 Thread Thomas Patterson
I've been using the new useful feature of version 2.8 which allows
Favorites to be turned into Map Markers to construct a route. However I
found after using the feature for a while that I couldn't get some selected
Favorites to appear in the Markers list, empty or otherwise. After some
investigation I discovered that these items were in fact present in the
Markers History list having been put there after deletion on another
occasion. As soon as I cleared out the marker history everything worked
fine again. It seems that if an item is present in the history list, the
associated Favorite is prevented from being added to the Markers list. It
can of course be re-activated from the history to get it back.

This seems like odd behavior. I would have thought that history list meant
exactly that, namely, it recorded everything that one had done in the past
including repetitions. Has anyone else experienced this?

Re: Map markers do not display expected direction

2017-07-21 Thread Sydney Brown
I figured out what was going on. The marker's location points correctly
but is *relative to the compass* even when the view setting is "north
always up" and seems to only work properly in portrait mode. This can make
it pretty confusing and difficult to interpret on a motorcycle. Using
"direction of travel" or "compass mode" makes more sense, but moves around
more when riding bumpy roads, which also makes the screen less legible.

A workaround suggested by Bart Eisenberg is to change the navigation
service setting to "straight line" (Settings > Navigation Settings >
Navigation Service). Though I haven't yet tested this, I expect this
approach to be more legible while riding the moto and useful in the "north
is always up" mode.

I don't have the answer. But you can use the Map Markers menu to convert

Yes, you are right.
I would like to have the 2 topmost markers of the **current** list.

Re: Video tutorial on Map Markers -- Rename map marker?

2016-07-28 Thread Bart Eisenberg
Agreed: renaming the labels would be helpful, especially as the street name
defaults are not often the best identifiers. The other thing I puzzled
over is the list order of the map markers. Even if you change the order,
it's still the first two markers you *originally entered *that show up on
the Configure screen/Map markers/ Topbar and Widgets selections

Re: Video tutorial on Map Markers

2016-07-28 Thread Bart Eisenberg
Thanks so much Harry--I keep learning more about OsmAnd and video-making as
I go. Good point about "Android 2.3.5"--I got it right on the narration,
but not the slide. I've added an annotation to that section to clarify any
ambiguity.

Re: Video tutorial on Map Markers -- Rename map marker?

2016-07-28 Thread Peter B
I would like this as well very much.
Until now I use a workaround if the name is important:
- save the marker as favourite, change the name
- then set a new marker on this favourite.
 Not comfortable but it works.

Why map markers cannot be renamed? I think it is quite important feature.

Re: Video tutorial on Map Markers

2016-07-28 Thread Harry van der Wolf
Excellent video.
I didn't know the option to store them as a GPX-track. That's handy. Thanks
for explaining.

One remark about your video "loading Maps for hiking". After 16 seconds it
mentions "Android 2.3.5". For inexperienced users this might mean "for
Android 2.3.5" instead of "Osmand 2.3.5 for Android", or something alike.

But as I mentioned before: clear videos, clear instructions, clear
narration.
