mp3 players
okay, this old chestnut again. i'm looking for a hard disc based mp3 player as they have by far the largest capacity storage. i don't have any useful sight to read menus etc. i'd like a record facility, but my research shows this is limited to mostly archos players (within my price bracket anyhow!) anyone got any recommendations? i like the look of several archos players but have no idea how accessible they are in general. i'm not fussy on price as i seen prices for the same model vary whildly and so can scout around if anyone's got a recommendation. roughly between 100 and 200 pounds. email or msn [EMAIL PROTECTED] cheers - kevin ___ PC-Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: Windows Media Player 10
Hi Mari. Your question could be extended to nearly every program out there. I recently purchased DC6, a great sound editing program which I have found to be quite accessible for the most part and priced at a level that lives between Goldwave and Sound Forge. . The problem is that it comes with this huge book, which tells me that there is probably much more that the program could do, if I only knew how to do it. I wrote the company, asking about an online copy of the manual in text or PDF, but have received no answer. splitting a large wave file into smaller files using GoldWave
Hi Sunsparkle, Larry and anyone who is interested in this topic. To split a single file which contains multiple tracks into individual files using Goldwave. 1. Open the file you wish to split and if necessary, save it immediately as a WAV file. 2. Press F4 to start listening to the file. 3. When you have reached the point were you wish to split, press F7 to pause, then do a Control Q, to drop a q point at that point. NOTE: If you overshoot the point were you wish to cut, press F5 to rewind back. NOTE. If you wish to slow down the speed of rewind, do the following. 1. Press F11 and TAB until you hear Fast/Rewind Speed, Rewind. This will be followed by numbers. Change these temporary to 0.10. This will significantly slow down the rewind speed. Press OK. Continue dropping q points until you have reached the end of the file. 4. Press AltE F and arrow up once to Q Points and press Enter. Select Split File from the list of options. 5. You will be prompted for a location to send the individual files to, so complete this and press Enter. All you need do now if necessary is convert the files back to mp3 individually by opening each file and changing the Save As option. Alternatively, there is a Batch process in Goldwave which can convert whole directories of files from one format to another. If anyone would like to know how to do this, please let me know. Good luck and get back if you run into difficulties. Best wishes. real player question
Hi all, I'm having a problem with real player, I subscribed to a service on www.nascar.com, and when I was on vacation, it worked perfect, on an aol dial up connection, now I'm at home on my Comcast cable connection and every time I try to load that content, it comes up and says warning security and there's a close button there and the URL, that's it. I believe this might be a firewall issue causing this, but has anyone seen this? Any ideas on what might fix it? I'm sure it would happen with other things as well but I don't use real player much, just when I absolutely have to. If anyone's seen this, or can offer suggestions I'd appreciate it, I'd like to get it working if I can't I'll have to cancel it, it's costing me money. Re: real player question
I wonder if your internet security settings are set to forbid the sort of stream that you're trying to activate. I'm not sure how your firewall works, but if mine has an issue with something it offers me the chance to ignore its warning and go ahead with the action in question. I'm also wondering if you have XP and have taken advantage of their latest upgrade. Ever since I've done that a warning pops up with certain internet audio feeds. When it does, I simply tab twice to open and press enter. Well, my firewall is in my router so it can't pop up and tell me, but I know what you mean, I had zone alarm before the router and that worked. I don't know about my security settings though because I was set the same while on vacation when it did work, as I am here where it doesn't. I suspect the firewall in my linksys router, unless Comcast has something blocking that out though I did upgrade to SP2 and don't know if that might have something to do with it since I did get that the day I got back from my vacation last month but I can't find any settings that I could think of doing that, thanks for the suggestions though I'm thinking a little more now.
