And yes, it is almost completely accessible so far as I can tell with my Window Eyes 8.4. There are a couple of unlabeled buttons, but it's not hard to figure out what they do from hitting them. For example, there's a button to let you browse to where you want it to put the files it rips, but my Window Eyes doesn't say Browse. Also, I can't find any Save button in here anywhere, so I need to check to make sure it still has my settings whenever I open it. You can edit profiles, but I still haven't totally got the hang of how to save them exactly. And when you try to delete a profile, it starts at the top of the list, and not on the profile your cursor is on when you go into the Edit Profile dialogue box. Still, it is working very well overall. However, I have noticed that accessibility has deteriorated in both the iPhone app as well as on the PC web browser side of things. About two months ago a new series was supposed to show up on Netflix or should I say a series new to Netflix and it did not show up on the Apple TV. Because the web site is so convoluted it took me about an hour to get through all those taste profiles or whatever all that new distraction type crap is called and just get in to find out if it was indeed added like it was supposed to be. Then once I found that it was indeed there it took me another half an hour to find the correct link in order to add it to my list because it is not as simple as it used to be where you just added shows or movies to a list of shows and you could move their order up and down by simply changing the number in an edit box. And all the while it kept nagging me to rate movies I had no interest in watching. And all this was for a series someone else in the household wanted to check out not even me, smile! So yes I think Netflix has lost some accessibility ground. Part of it though I think is just poor site programming. Merv

I’ve had my new Mac Mini for about a month now and thought I’d share some observations with you. The Mac Mini is fast turning into my main computer of choice because of its speed and power, here’s an example which I think illustrates the point rather well. I’m testing a Mp3 player, I deleted all my Mp3 collection a few weeks back so I needed to create or download some more, given I have a good FLAC collection it made sense I guess to convert some of those, I started with the Beatles Singles collection 4 CD set from 1962-1970 which contains more than 40 tracks. Conversion was over in around 30 seconds and I was using the highest settings with the LAME MP3 encoder to get the best I could out of it, on my Windows desktop and other machines such a conversion task would have taken around 20 minutes or even longer. I spoke to someone about this and he reckoned it would have only taken 5 seconds or so with his Mac Pro machine and so it ought to given that his machine contains 8 quad core i7 processors smile, mine only contains one but I think the major contributing factor here is the Fusion Drive that my Mac Mini uses, put simply a fusion drive is a 1TB standard hard drive with a 128GB SSD drive incorporated into the design, when idle the operating system decides what resides on the SSD and what doesn’t based on the most accessed files, most run applications and so on. Now I’m not writing this post as an advertisement for Mac Mini machines as I’m sure similar can be accomplished with Windows PC’s, I’m writing this because I’m amazed at just how far we’ve come, encoding and creating of MP3 files used to take hours if not many minutes not all that long ago. ** Dane Trethowan grtd...@internode.on.net Skype: grtdane12 Phone US (213) 438-9741 Phone U.K. 01245 79 0598 Phone Australia (03) 9005 8589 Mobile: +61400494862 faceTime +61400494862 Fax +61397437954 Twitter: @grtdane

I won't go into the machine in huge detail as this is an audio list and not a tech type list smile so just the uadio highlights and associated stuff. I guess I should explain why I want a Mac Mini machine? Well actually this is my second Mac Mini machine, the first one I bought - at 5 years old - is now showing its age so time to buy a second. The Newer Mac Mini machine is even smaller than the first, a little thicker than a single CD case and about the same size otherwise,. The machine offers plenty of room for expansion, 4 USB 3.0 ports, Firewire, SD Card Slot, Bluetooth 4.0, Full Wi-Fi Capabilities and so on but the really great advance for me - apart from the outstanding Tech Specs sheet - is the HDMI output so the Mac Mini will connect straight into my Denon AVR2113 AV Receiver and associated TV. Yep, I plan to use the Mac Mini as a Media hub, most other things will be able to access the machine over my Network and this includes my TV/Video Tuner box which can be used by everything from Windows Media Center on my PC'S to my iPhone etc. So to say that the next few days will be a busy few would amount to the understated remark of the year, Flat-Out would be a better term.

Brian, A couple of questions. Are you satisfied that fubar 2000 is a good replacement for Win Amp, would be my first question; since the Win Amp people, although new people, still don't have Win Amp together? I have been corresponding with a member of their tech. support team, but have not gotten results, that Blind people can use. I was trying to repopulate the Media Library and it turned out to be, thus far, a boondoggle! second, if you are satisfied with Fubar 2000, are you going to sell those scripts or pass them along? Maybe you could dropbox them, to me or anyone else who might want to try them? I don't have Fubar 2000 installed yet, but I think I have the installer in my downloads list, already. This works much better. Brian

I used to do that, all the time, with Concert Vault, the archive of Bill Graham's sound board recordings, of classic rock shows, from the Fillmore, King Biscuit Flower Hour, etc.; it takes a lot of patience, but, it is worth it sometimes. One has to do a bit of editing, to join the files, as they gap them, at the oddest points! Oh, I did not notice that you were sending it out to other lists; I guess I should have realized that. ! BTW, I isolated the add attachments text, from the WLM 2011 guide, by David Bales: Adding Attachments in WLM 2011 1.There are a number of ways of opening the Open dialog in which you can choose files to attach to the message. There's an Attach file button both in the Insert group of the Message tab, and in the Include group of the Insert tab. In addition, by default, an Attach file button appears as the fourth button in the Quick Access Toolbar (Alt, 4, if you're not using the Jaws virtual ribbon, or Insert + 3, then Alt + 4 if you are). 2.An Open dialog opens which has the same structure as the standard Windows 7 Open dialog. Select one or more files in the Folder view list view, and then press Enter to press the default Open button. 3.You are returned to the new message window. The focus within the window is unchanged, but there is now an Attachments list between the Subject and message body edit boxes, and in this list you can move between items by using the arrow keys. Note that Jaws mistakenly reads this as the message list. Old age perhaps. If necessary, you can repeat this procedure to add more attachments to the message. I am going to look at the Insert tab, on the WLM 2011 menu, as well as the way in which we tried to do it! Let me know how Blio goes; I just updated my version; I may still try to send you the guides, that I have! Have a good weekend and if you come up with anything, let me know. Win Amp won't play more than one file, of an album, at a time!
Dear Listers, I have a different problem, than Evan has! My Win Amp version 5.581, using XP Home, with JAWS 12, will only play one file at a time. I had thought that Control A would do the trick, but, it must be a preference setting, right? I may have my preferences screwed up -- I just don't know! Re: Winamps audio playback capabilities
OK, Never Mind, as I took a look at the new version, of Win Amp and installed it, over my last Pro version. This time, however, I unchecked any and all of the On Line media functions, as Win Amp would freeze up, anytime I opened the Media Library, but does not freeze up now, enabling me to put content into it, from both of my external drives! It used to come up on some AOL or other item and just sit there, requiring shutdown and start up, of my entire system, to bring Win Amp back. Hope this further reply gets to you and you can honor all of us with a reply, David! One thing I like about Itunes is the ability of Itunes to remember what songs I've played and how many times I've played them, you can using this memory create favourite playlists for example so those songs you play often are automatically added to that list so you can Sync it with your Iphone and no that when you're on the move you'll only hear those songs you like when you start playing the Ipod, so far so very good. I was lucky enough to get my hands on a Yamaha TSX_130 clock radio on Thursday which includes amongst other things a multi-format audio CD player, an Ipod dock and a port for a USB memory stick so here's the question, I'd like to start using memory sticks with the Yamaha and I have Winamp on the Windows PC, is there a similar function in Winamp or a way using Winamp that I can have my most frequently play songs remembered and copied to the Memory stick in a similar way as illustrated in the above example with Itunes? And finally, for those wanting to know more about the Yamaha TSX-130? I plan to cover that in more detail in a future email and if you have one of these little beauties? Re: scripts for winamp
There used to be scripts, that David Truong originally wrote ( I may be wrong as to him being the originator), but, I guess advanced users can get around the foibles that are usual stops to navigating and creating content, for rank amateurs, like myself! This is an old conversation and I am not trying to open it up, again, rather, just curious as to why it never has been addressed, in the past couple of years. Then again, I don't subscribe to the Win Amp 4 The Blind list, anymore, so I am not aware of any improvements, that may have been made, or discussed, there. I never did figure out how to use the Win Amp forums, either, so, I cannot attest to any tips, that show up in that area, plus I do not know how to contact the developers. I used to be able to create playlists, with crossfades in them, then use the Disc Writer plug in and make discs, with tracks in them, for my sighted friends, but the Eye Candy and other stuff, that is ever present, in the current versions, has made it nigh on to impossible, for me at least, to do that, at all. Win Amp usually frreezes up, when I try to navigate, through the Media Library, at all, now! That's about all I can muster on this subject! Re: Total Recorder Pro 8.1 released
Norma, Is this a newer build, of the 8.1 version, or are you just getting around to announcing this to the list? I had thought that Steve Patison had announced this, quite awhile back and so had High Criteria. So, is it a newer build? My reason for asking is that I have already installed the 8.1 version and the last time I got a note about this, I started to install it, based on the reliability of who sent out the note (your credibility is great, don't get me wrong Big Brin), only to have a message come up telling me that I already had the version installed. I don't, frankly, know how to tell which build I have -- do you know how to find that information, in the program? I think these are pertinent questions, although a bit long winded! In fact, it took me longer to write my questions , than it might have taken to get the message, telling me that I already have it installed! Steve, I don't know anything about the kind of file you are trying to get to play for you, but you mentioned 24 bit and I think there is a place in the Win Amp preferences, also, where you can change bit rates. I will try it on another machine, but now I'm starting to think maybe the sound card isn't handling it right. Yes, thank you, it's in playback, I found it and turned it on. It now hisses when the music commences, about a minute plus some seconds into the file, which is pretty accurate. Hundreds of thousands of local lending libraries throughout the US provide a range of print, audio, visual, and electronic media to lend to the masses every day without the same knee jerk concerns of copyright violation. You can just as easily go to your local library and photocopy a book, dub a audio tape or copy an overdrive book. Does the government think blind folks are more predispositioned to piracy than ordinary folks, that we need such extreme measures that the rest of our culture does not? The first thing I here Jaws say at that point is edit bookmarks control altI. At that point I hit the enter key and Jaws says, you must first have the media library installed to edit bookmarks and there's an OK button. I do have the media library installed and checked. Re: deleting bookmarked radio stations in winamp
Joe, OK, I found more time to send this to you again! The page , or whatever it is called -- might be a frame, I don't know -- that you have been referring to is the Bookmark List page. Yes, you get to that page, using the Win Amp sub menu, from the main page. The media library page, however, is a different page, which is accessed by using the command Alt L. So, once you do that, then you can follow the list below, with the first instruction repeating what I just said, above: 1) When in the main window of Winamp press ALT L to open the Win amp library. 2) When in the library press TAB until you get to what is called a treeview. Move through the treeview with the up and down arrow keys until the section called Bookmarks is selected. 3) Press TAB until you get to a listview containing a list of all of your bookmarks. Using the up and down arrow keys select the bookmark you want to delete. 4) Press TAB in the Winamp library until you get to the Delete button. Press space on this button and the bookmark is deleted. You are not asked to confirm that you want to delete the bookmark beforehand so be careful when deleting bookmarks. 5) Press ALT L once more to close the Winamp library. Note: The tabs are labeled Play, Encue, Edit and Delete, which is the last tab, in the list and is the one that you want. You have to arrow to the bookmark that you want to delete, before you can expect to get this to work! So, I hope this is clear. I find that sometimes, you have to go back over the bookmarks, that you delete, with this process, toreally get rid of them, as they can still show up, after you have done this process. Read it over a few times and it should work. I am using the current version,of Win Amp also, with JAWS 10, in the current build of JAWS 10. If this doesn't work for you, then you are still in the wrong area, of the sub menu, not the library menu! Another thing is that once you have accessed this once, I think, it will tell you that you are in the bookmark area, from then on! Got it? Joe, Here is a note, that I got, quite awhile ago, from Steve Pattison: I don't use JAWS but I use Window-Eyes. I'll try to describe the process of deleting bookmarks. The method I'm using here is purely using Winamp commands and should work no matter what screen reader you're using. 1) When in the main window of Winamp press ALT L to open the Win amp library. 2) When in the library press TAB until you get to what Window-Eyes calls a treeview. Okay, there seems to be a little confusion here, I put Exact Audio Copy up on sendspace a little over a week ago now so the link will no longer work. Secondly I didn't put up any tutorial on the software, I know there are tutorials about but I've never need one so as a consequence of that I've never gone looking for one nor do I own one smile. People have been contacting me privately about an Exact Audio Copy Tutorial so I don't know where that all came from however, if anyone wants the software then certainly! I can upload it again. Re: Adobe 9.2.
You are right -- this list is for PC Audio only! However, if you just go into the help section of your Adobe Reader, you can get to the downloadable update, right away! Re: Sound Forge Audio Studio, another point of puzzlement?
I don't know if the CDArchitect thingy is of interest to you, Dane, but that was one of the parts of the bundle that Sony offered, that I bought into a few years back, when version 9 of the Pro version came out. It would allow one to create a CD from those regions that you spoke of, with individual tracks involved, which I am sure, from your conversation, that Goldwave could do as well, right? I could never figure out how to create the regions in version 9, hence I would import them, from version 6, which I was told, by Jim Snowbarger, the Snowman, at one time, that his way of doing that was the same! I am digressing here and don't have anywhere near the knowledge that you have, judging from listening to some of your posts, so I will close; just wanted to offer another viewpoint on this subject! Unfortunately I have to say that I can see exactly where you're coming from and I'm nodding my head, just a money making exercise on behalf of Sony Software by the looks of things. As I detailed in a previous message to this list, you had to pay more than half the purchase price of Sound Forge Audio Studio for the MPg plug-in, what a joke! Hi! In previous versions of the Sound Forge Application I used - that's now known as Sound Forge Pro - the regions facility was extremely useful, you could for instance make regions of different portions in your project and treat those as a playlist - only your regions would play when you hit the spacebar -, treat them as a cutlist - everything but those regions of your project in the cutlist would play when you pressed the spacebar, - or you could extract the regions to files - each region of your project would be a separate file -, so far so good. It seems that with Sound Forge Audio Studio these features have been removed so - given that - I have to ask myself the question, why bother with regions at all? What's the difference then in Sound Forge Audio Studio between regions and reference markers? As far as I can tell there are absolutely noe. For your reference, you can put a Reference marker anywhere in your project - no matter what mode you're in - - by pressing the M key. So again, another reason to stay away from Sound Forge Audio Studio in my humble opinion, with those useful region tools removed I see little point in the software, Goldwave has a similar feature to Sound Forge's regions in the form of Cue points, highly useful and further more they can be shared amongst applications that support cue files, you can edit them in a text editor and so on so another damn great reason to purchase this product. And as a final sorry note on Sound Forge Audio Studio, this version seems far less accessible than past versions of the software and I don't think its my imagination either smile though perhaps I'm just used to the excellent accessibility provided by Goldwave under Windows or amadeus Pro for the Mac smile. Re: multi track editers
I had a bit of trouble, trying to figure out which link, on the page that comes up, to download from. I have an XP Home system running JAWS 10.01167U. Any suggestions on which download link to use? I don't have a lot of experience figuring these kinds of things out big grin!
