Yes, it is indeed from POIKOSOFT. And yes, it is almost completely
accessible so far as I can tell with my Window Eyes 8.4.
There are a couple of unlabeled buttons, but it's not hard to figure out
what they do from hitting them. For example, there's a button to let you
browse to where you want it to put the files it rips, but my Window Eyes
doesn't say Browse. Also, I can't find any Save button in here anywhere, so
I need to check to make sure it still has my settings whenever I open it.
You can edit profiles, but I still haven't totally got the hang of how to
save them exactly. And when you try to delete a profile, it starts at the
top of the list, and not on the profile your cursor is on when you go into
the Edit Profile dialogue box.
Still, it is working very well overall.

Hi,

I generally use Netflix on the Apple TV so as to take advantage of voice
Over. However, I have noticed that accessibility has deteriorated in both
the iPhone app as well as on the PC web browser side of things. About two
months ago a new series was supposed to show up on Netflix or should I say a
series new to Netflix and it did not show up on the Apple TV. Because the
web site is so convoluted it took me about an hour to get through all those
taste profiles or whatever all that new distraction type crap is called and
just get in to find out if it was indeed added like it was supposed to be.
Then once I found that it was indeed there it took me another half an hour
to find the correct link in order to add it to my list because it is not as
simple as it used to be where you just added shows or movies to a list of
shows and you could move their order up and down by simply changing the
number in an edit box. And all the while it kept nagging me to rate movies I
had no interest in watching. And all this was for a series someone else in
the household wanted to check out not even me, smile!

So yes I think Netflix has lost some accessibility ground. Part of it though
I think is just poor site programming.

Hi!

I’ve had my new Mac Mini for about a month now and thought I’d share some
observations with you.

The Mac Mini is fast turning into my main computer of choice because of its
speed and power, here’s an example which I think illustrates the point
rather well.

I’m testing a Mp3 player, I deleted all my Mp3 collection a few weeks back
so I needed to create or download some more, given I have a good FLAC
collection it made sense I guess to convert some of those, I started with
the Beatles Singles collection 4 CD set from 1962-1970 which contains more
than 40 tracks.

Conversion was over in around 30 seconds and I was using the highest
settings with the LAME MP3 encoder to get the best I could out of it, on my
Windows desktop and other machines such a conversion task would have taken
around 20 minutes or even longer.

I spoke to someone about this and he reckoned it would have only taken 5
seconds or so with his Mac Pro machine and so it ought to given that his
machine contains 8 quad core i7 processors smile, mine only contains one
but I think the major contributing factor here is the Fusion Drive that my
Mac Mini uses, put simply a fusion drive is a 1TB standard hard drive with a
128GB SSD drive incorporated into the design, when idle the operating system
decides what resides on the SSD and what doesn’t based on the most accessed
files, most run applications and so on.

Now I’m not writing this post as an advertisement for Mac Mini machines as I’m
sure similar can be accomplished with Windows PC’s, I’m writing this because
I’m amazed at just how far we’ve come, encoding and creating of MP3 files
used to take hours if not many minutes not all that long ago.

Okay, I have my new Mac Mini.

I won't go into the machine in huge detail as this is an audio list and
not a tech type list smile so just the uadio highlights and associated
stuff.

I guess I should explain why I want a Mac Mini machine? Well actually
this is my second Mac Mini machine, the first one I bought - at 5 years
old - is now showing its age so time to buy a second.

The Newer Mac Mini machine is even smaller than the first, a little
thicker than a single CD case and about the same size otherwise,.

The machine offers plenty of room for expansion, 4 USB 3.0 ports,
Firewire, SD Card Slot, Bluetooth 4.0, Full Wi-Fi Capabilities and so on
but the really great advance for me - apart from the outstanding Tech
Specs sheet - is the HDMI output so the Mac Mini will connect straight
into my Denon AVR2113 AV Receiver and associated TV.

Yep, I plan to use the Mac Mini as a Media hub, most other things will
be able to access the machine over my Network and this includes my
TV/Video Tuner box which can be used by everything from Windows Media
Center on my PC'S to my iPhone etc.

So to say that the next few days will be a busy few would amount to the
understated remark of the year, Flat-Out would be a better term.

second, if you are satisfied with Fubar 2000, are you going to sell those

Upon further research, it seems they are stored in a .cfg file which is not
human readable, it is binary. This file also contains other information

So in the end, I created jaws scripts with keyboard shortcuts instead, to
control the functions of Foobar from any application, volume, next/previous

I used to do that, all the time, with Concert Vault, the archive of Bill
Graham's sound board recordings, of classic rock shows, from the Fillmore,
King Biscuit Flower Hour, etc.; it takes a lot of patience, but, it is worth
it sometimes. One has to do a bit of editing, to join the files, as they
gap them, at the oddest points! You can create a great concert, joining the
audience applause, then marking regions, to play tracks, for your sighted

Hi
Do you have the Applian suite of products or just Replay Music 6? The audio
tutorials will show you how to use Replay Music 6. Replay Music 6 is not
available yet as a download. The installation process is very simple. You
simply listen to each installation window that pops up during the install,
if you want to hear the window again you press insert+b, press the next
button each time except at two windows, one window you will tab around to
the I Do Not Agree and press up arrow to go to the I Agree button and then
tab to the next button and spacebar. When the install is finished you have
two buttons, Launch and Exit both accessible with the tab key. Launch will
launch the program and exit will finish the installation.

To upgrade, simply download Replay Music 6 when it is available and install
it.

Run Replay Music 6 from its desktop icon. Read each of its helpful hints.
When done with the hints press spacebar on the ABOUT button within Replay
Music 6.

In the About window you will see the upgrade link.

Press the upgrade link and follow the steps.

Hello. Which editor provides not only equalizer functions but also speed
adjustment? I don't mean speed correction for making something read
faster like an algorithm for speed reading, but one which will change
the pitch as in the case of old cassettes running a shade too slow, etc.
Also, equalizer functions to brighten up old tapes as well is needed.
Does wave pad, and the cheaper version of Sound forge, (is that sound

Get the free program called Freemake Video Converter. It uses menus and
dialogs and will do what you want.

find it at:

Please excuse me if this one has been done to death on the list. I am a

easy-to-use program that will take a video file and extract the audio

2012-10-05 Thread Mac Norins
Oh, I did not notice that you were sending it out to other lists; I guess I
should have realized that. ! BTW, I isolated the add attachments text,
from the WLM 2011 guide, by David Bales:

Adding Attachments in WLM 2011

1.There are a number of ways of opening the Open dialog in which you can
choose files to attach to the message. There's an Attach file button both in
the Insert group of the Message tab, and in the Include group of the Insert
tab. In addition, by default, an Attach file button appears as the fourth
button in the Quick Access Toolbar (Alt, 4, if you're not using the Jaws
virtual ribbon, or Insert + 3, then Alt + 4 if you are).
2.An Open dialog opens which has the same structure as the standard
Windows 7 Open dialog. Select one or more files in the Folder view list
view, and then press Enter to press the default Open button.
3.You are returned to the new message window. The focus within the
window is unchanged, but there is now an Attachments list between the
Subject and message body edit boxes, and in this list you can move between
items by using the arrow keys. Note that Jaws mistakenly reads this as the
message list. Old age perhaps.
If necessary, you can repeat this procedure to add more attachments to the
message. I am going to look at the Insert tab, on the WLM 2011 menu, as
well as the way in which we tried to do it!

Let me know how Blio goes; I just updated my version; I may still try to
send you the guides, that I have!

Have a good weekend and if you come up with anything, let me know. Also,
BTW, Salman Rushdie (sp?) has a new book out called Joseph Anton. Candee
looked at the thing, at her local bookstore and it was about $60, with 22
discs!

Just another thing for you to look for, you know?

hello fellow listers:
I'm planning to join the team of djs at mushroomFM sometime in the near

broadcasting software. I'm trying to decide between Stationplaylist
Studio and Winamp. I've heard that both programs are capable of
broadcasting content online. The only trouble is, I'm on a tight
budgit, and can't aford expensive equipment. Have any of you ever used
either of these two programs? if so, what's it like to use them? Are
either of them accessible with a screen reader? I'm basically looking
for software that will allow me to turn the mic on and off at any point
during the show, and be able to talk over the music and get a balance
between my voice and the audio going out over the air. I know this can
be done with an audio mixer, but I don't have one. Is having one
necessary to broadcast online? Finally, does anyone know of a software
program that I could use as a virtual cart machine to play sound
effects? Thanks.

Hi, I posted this to the Winamp for the Blind list yesterday but got no
responses. Not sure if that list is still operating. Anyway, it was doing it
last week, but now when I select all the tracks in a CD I've ripped, Winamp
does not automatically advance to the next track when I start playing the
selected tracks. I know they're all selected, because when I hit b, Winamp
will advance to the next track and start playing it. But when I just let it
play, it stops at the end of the track it's currently playing. I've been
through the Preferences, but I don't see anything that I recognize as
something that will fix this. Any advice? As I said, it was doing it last
week. I have no idea what has changed since then.

Thanks much.

If you find out about putting SF 6 into a Windows 7 platform, let me know

I think it's perfectly OK for someone to provide an answer without
necessarily providing the link. Not every utility I have on my system
has an easy way to grab the link from where I found that utility. I
assume the person asking the question can use Google just as much as I
can. If after looking for it, they're having some trouble finding it,
then I may be able to help out. Of course, if I have the link handy,
I'll also send it along, but I don't see anything wrong with this
answer. None of us are paid to provide customer support on these lists.
If you don't like an answer then use the delete key.

Hi folks!

The title of this list if pretty self explanatory I should think, the
uni-audio (Universal Audio) mailing list is pretty much open to any
audio topic, that can be anything from an audio editor for Windows or
Mac to the latest FM radio station which has opened, a music
subscription service, an iPhone app for audio, your 1923 radio set using
a cats whisker etc.

For more information and subscription details see

I must assume that what you call mp3 ripper is also called audio grabber, on
Tom's web site, because there is nothing, that I could see, on White Stick
by the name mp3 ripper.

Dane,

It sounds to me, here in the U.S. that you may have experienced a phishing
expedition, from an unknown source, looking for your secret question, etc.
I am not trying to be alarmist, but, did you see any other information, from
Apple, as to your identity, or was this just a plain text thing, without

Hi!

Has anyone had trouble doing this?

I got a message on Sunday that my iTunes account had been disabled and I
was advised to reset the password so I pressed the Reset button in
iTunes and a web page came up.

All went well and I was able to get to the Reset Password page by
typing the answer to my secret question and here came the problem.

No matter how many times I typed in a new password I couldn't get the
account to reset, there are 2 buttons a Next and a reset button,
which one do you press and where? The page isn't terribly specific, can
anyone help with this? Thanks in Advance.

Thanks, Dane and James; I finally got the chat downloaded, but had to

hear, when downloading one of Mosen's Mushroom podcasts, I am afraid. This
one started playing at about 65% of the download -- imagine that! I will
peruse this puppy for awhile; sounds like a great alternative to Sonar!

I just clicked the link here and it works fine, but if you go to

http://www.cucat.org/class_notes/Thursday%20chats/2011/

the Reaper tutorial/introduction is the last one on that page and is
called 20110408 Intro To Reaper.mp3.

In regards to your query about documentation, a lot of the Reaper manual
is useless for blind beginners as ReaAccess (the plug-in I mentioned
earlier) changes many of the hotkeys and when using a screen reader many
of the procedures to accomplish the basics are slightly different. That
audio file should hopefully get you up and running, however if it does
not, the ReaAccess website (http://www.reaaccess.com) features details
on how you can join a mailing list specifically to talk about the use of
Reaper with screen readers. I'm sure people will be happy to help you
on there.

Hi all

Since other apps are talked about here, I thought I'd ask.
Is Cubase or Nuendo at all accessible with Jaws, or are there scripts
available that will let you work in 1 of these apps?
How does Cubase or Nuendo compare with Sonar?

Another important issue, is voice tuning.
The studio where I work, use Melodyne to do voice tuning, since it sounds
very natural, not as synthetic as some of the autotuners out there.
Also, with melodyne it's possible to tune small portions of music, even
parts of a single note.
I wonder if Melodyne can be accessed at all with Jaws, or is the lay-out too
graphical?
What good alternative is there to melodyne, if any, something that would
enable you to achieve almost the same success as with Melodyne?

Thanks for any help, it would be highly appreciated.

XP Home, with JAWS 12, will only play one file at a time. I had thought
that Control A would do the trick, but, it must be a preference setting,
right? I may have my preferences screwed up -- I just don't know! In
Windows Media Player, Control A does the trick, gaplessly; why not Win Amp
5.581? Did the developers trick this out too much or am I missing
something, in preferences?

Any help appreciated,

-Mac-

Open the Playlist section of Winamp Preferences, and make sure that the

Re: Winamps audio playback capabilities

2010-09-20 Thread Mac Norins
OK, Never Mind, as I took a look at the new version, of Win Amp and
installed it, over my last Pro version. This time, however, I unchecked any
and all of the On Line media functions, as Win Amp would freeze up, anytime
I opened the Media Library, but does not freeze up now, enabling me to put
content into it, from both of my external drives! It used to come up on
some AOL or other item and just sit there, requiring shutdown and start up,
of my entire system, to bring Win Amp back.

Hope this further reply gets to you and you can honor all of us with a
reply, David!

Hi1

This message may e a little long-winded so please excuse and bare with me.

One thing I like about Itunes is the ability of Itunes to remember what
songs I've played and how many times I've played them, you can using this
memory create favourite playlists for example so those songs you play
often are automatically added to that list so you can Sync it with your
Iphone and no that when you're on the move you'll only hear those songs you
like when you start playing the Ipod, so far so very good.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on a Yamaha TSX_130 clock radio on
Thursday which includes amongst other things a multi-format audio CD
player, an Ipod dock and a port for a USB memory stick so here's the
question, I'd like to start using memory sticks with the Yamaha and I have
Winamp on the Windows PC, is there a similar function in Winamp or a way
using Winamp that I can have my most frequently play songs remembered and
copied to the Memory stick in a similar way as illustrated in the above
example with Itunes?

And finally, for those wanting to know more about the Yamaha TSX-130? I
plan to cover that in more detail in a future email and if you have one of
these little beauties? Then may you be enjoying every minute of your
listening experience smile.

Re: scripts for winamp

2010-07-15 Thread Mac Norins
There used to be scripts, that David Truong originally wrote ( I may be
wrong as to him being the originator), but, I guess advanced users can get
around the foibles that are usual stops to navigating and creating content,
for rank amateurs, like myself! This is an old conversation and I am not
trying to open it up, again, rather, just curious as to why it never has
been addressed, in the past couple of years. Then again, I don't subscribe
to the Win Amp 4 The Blind list, anymore, so I am not aware of any
improvements, that may have been made, or discussed, there. I never did
figure out how to use the Win Amp forums, either, so, I cannot attest to any
tips, that show up in that area, plus I do not know how to contact the
developers. I used to be able to create playlists, with crossfades in them,
then use the Disc Writer plug in and make discs, with tracks in them, for my
sighted friends, but the Eye Candy and other stuff, that is ever present,
in the current versions, has made it nigh on to impossible, for me at least,
to do that, at all. Win Amp usually frreezes up, when I try to navigate,
through the Media Library, at all, now!

That's about all I can muster on this subject!

Thanks for your input,

Re: Total Recorder Pro 8.1 released

2010-06-29 Thread Mac Norins
Norma,

Is this a newer build, of the 8.1 version, or are you just getting around to
announcing this to the list? I had thought that Steve Patison had announced
this, quite awhile back and so had High Criteria. So, is it a newer build?
My reason for asking is that I have already installed the 8.1 version and
the last time I got a note about this, I started to install it, based on the
reliability of who sent out the note (your credibility is great, don't get
me wrong Big Brin), only to have a message come up telling me that I
already had the version installed. I don't, frankly, know how to tell which
build I have -- do you know how to find that information, in the program? I
think these are pertinent questions, although a bit long winded! In fact,
it took me longer to write my questions , than it might have taken to get
the message, telling me that I already have it installed!

Telll me why you are writing this now, if this is not a new build, won't
you?

Thanks,

Yes, thank you, it's in playback, I found it and turned it on. It now
hisses when the music commences, about a minute plus some seconds into

That is where you are wrong. There are many folks whom have made very
handsome profits from BARD. Those players don't just fall from the sky
you know. They cost money to make and design and that is profit for
someone. Also the very existence of BARD is, and has always, been to
provide paid positions for some very connected blind folks. Think
 about
it. Why do we even need our own system of libraries? Hundreds of
thousands of local lending libraries throughout the US provide a range
of print, audio, visual, and electronic media to lend to the masses
every day without the same knee jerk concerns of copyright violation.
You can just as easily go to your local library and photocopy a book,
dub a audio tape or copy an overdrive book. Does the government think
blind folks are more predispositioned to piracy than ordinary folks,
that we need such extreme measures that the rest of our culture does
not? There is no reason why our nations infrastructure of lending
libraries could not be the venues for electronic media not just for
 the
sighted but blind alike but that would take payola out of the pockets
 of
quite a few blind folks now wouldn't it? Yes folks you cannot leave
profit out of this conversation, sad to say.

High Vicky,
I never could get that key combo to work for me in any version of Winamp.
What I had to do to bookmark a radio/TV station, is play the stream.
While it's playing, I would pull up the bookmark menu.
Then I would scroll down to where it says, add currant bookmark and press
inter on it.
And the bookmark is added!
Hope this helps.
My best regards.

I asked this question to the Winamp list the other day and there didn't
seem
to be a solution, so I thought I'd try here.
I'm using the latest version of Winamp with Vista. I'm having two
 problems.

 1. When I add a bookmark using the shortcut key Alt I, it says the
 bookmark
 is
added, but no bookmark is ever added.

 2. I have placed my winamp.bm file into my winamp folder and no bookmarks
 show
up. On my netbook with XP the BM file was added fine.

I don't think you are following what I sent you, from Steve p. ! Read it

Hi. Thanks for answering by previous post about this. I tried what you
suggested but when I go to the media library, the stations aren't listed. To
delete radio stations, I used to be able to right arrow to winamp sub menu,
then down arrow to bookmarks sub menu, then right arrow. The first thing I
here Jaws say at that point is edit bookmarks control altI. At that point
I hit the enter key and Jaws says, you must first have the media library
installed to edit bookmarks and there's an OK button. I do have the media
library installed and checked. Is there anything in preferences that I must
change to get this to work? I hope someone can tackle this and help me.
Thanks, Joe.

Re: deleting bookmarked radio stations in winamp

2010-03-03 Thread Mac Norins
Joe,

OK, I found more time to send this to you again! The page , or whatever it
is called -- might be a frame, I don't know -- that you have been referring
to is the Bookmark List page. Yes, you get to that page, using the Win
Amp sub menu, from the main page. The media library page, however, is a
different page, which is accessed by using the command Alt L. So, once
you do that, then you can follow the list below, with the first instruction
repeating what I just said, above:

1) When in the main window of Winamp press ALT L to open the Win amp
library.

2) When in the library press TAB until you get to what is called a
treeview. Move through the treeview with the up and down arrow keys
until the section called Bookmarks is selected.

3) Press TAB until you get to a listview containing a list of all of your
bookmarks. Using the up and down arrow keys select the bookmark
you want to delete.

4) Press TAB in the Winamp library until you get to the Delete button.
Press space on this button and the bookmark is deleted. You are not asked
to confirm that you want to delete the bookmark beforehand so be careful
when deleting bookmarks.

5) Press ALT L once more to close the Winamp library. Note: The tabs are
labeled Play, Encue, Edit and Delete, which is the last tab, in the list and
is the one that you want. You have to arrow to the bookmark that you want
to delete, before you can expect to get this to work! So,

I hope this is clear. I find that sometimes, you have to go back over the
bookmarks, that you delete, with this process, toreally get rid of them,
as they can still show up, after you have done this process. Read it over a
few times and it should work. I am using the current version,of Win Amp
also, with JAWS 10, in the current build of JAWS 10.

If this doesn't work for you, then you are still in the wrong area, of the
sub menu, not the library menu! Another thing is that once you have accessed
this once, I think, it will tell you that you are in the bookmark area, from
then on!

Got it?

Regards,

-Mac-

Joe,

Here is a note, that I got, quite awhile ago, from Steve Pattison:

I don't use JAWS but I use Window-Eyes. I'll try to describe the process of
deleting bookmarks. The method I'm using here is purely using Winamp
commands and should work no matter what screen reader
you're using.

1) When in the main window of Winamp press ALT L to open the Win amp
library.

2) When in the library press TAB until you get to what Window-Eyes
calls a treeview.

I hope this is clear. I find that sometimes, you have to go back over the

Re: Sound Forge Audio Studio, another point of puzzlement?

2009-11-13 Thread Mac Norins
I don't know if the CDArchitect thingy is of interest to you, Dane, but that
was one of the parts of the bundle that Sony offered, that I bought into a
few years back, when version 9 of the Pro version came out. It would allow
one to create a CD from those regions that you spoke of, with individual
tracks involved, which I am sure, from your conversation, that Goldwave
could do as well, right? I could never figure out how to create the regions
in version 9, hence I would import them, from version 6, which I was told,
by Jim Snowbarger, the Snowman, at one time, that his way of doing that was
the same! I am digressing here and don't have anywhere near the knowledge
that you have, judging from listening to some of your posts, so I will
close; just wanted to offer another viewpoint on this subject!

Regards,

Mac Norins

Unfortunately I have to say that I can see exactly where you're coming
from and I'm nodding my head, just a money making exercise on behalf
of Sony Software by the looks of things.

As I detailed in a previous message to this list, you had to pay more
than half the purchase price of Sound Forge Audio Studio for the MPg
plug-in, what a joke!

 Hi!

In previous versions of the Sound Forge Application I used - that's
now known as Sound Forge Pro - the regions facility was extremely
useful, you could for instance make regions of different portions in
your project and treat those as a playlist - only your regions would
play when you hit the spacebar -, treat them as a cutlist -
everything but those regions of your project in the cutlist would
play when you pressed the spacebar, - or you could extract the
regions to files - each region of your project would be a separate
file -, so far so good. It seems that with Sound Forge Audio Studio
these features have been removed so - given that - I have to ask
myself the question, why bother with regions at all? What's the
difference then in Sound Forge Audio Studio between regions and
reference markers? As far as I can tell there are absolutely noe.

For your reference, you can put a Reference marker anywhere in your
project - no matter what mode you're in - - by pressing the M key.

So again, another reason to stay away from Sound Forge Audio Studio
in my humble opinion, with those useful region tools removed I see
little point in the software, Goldwave has a similar feature to Sound
Forge's regions in the form of Cue points, highly useful and
further more they can be shared amongst applications that support cue
files, you can edit them in a text editor and so on so another damn
great reason to purchase this product.

And as a final sorry note on Sound Forge Audio Studio, this version
seems far less accessible than past versions of the software and I
don't think its my imagination either smile though perhaps I'm just
used to the excellent accessibility provided by Goldwave under
Windows or amadeus Pro for the Mac smile.

Re: multi track editers

2009-11-13 Thread Mac Norins
I had a bit of trouble, trying to figure out which link, on the page that
comes up, to download from. I have an XP Home system running JAWS
10.01167U. Any suggestions on which download link to use? I don't have a
lot of experience figuring these kinds of things out big grin!

Thanks,

Mac Norins
