Yes, I am using NVDA in the headset.

How do I turn down the volume of my soundcard once my headphone volume
control is maxed since all of my sounds are going to my headset?

The micraphone and the headphone run along side of each other and the output

I hope this will help.

I am using a pair of Andrea 205-B binaural microphones. These are earbud

use them to record they pick up my screen reader in the background.
Obviously this is very distracting but I haven't figured out a way to

connecting surroundsound speakers to computer?

2013-03-01 Thread Scott Delventhal
Hello,

I was looking for advice/direction on if and how to connect speakers from a
5.1 home theater/DVD system.

I only want to hook up the four surroundsound speakers to my computer. The
speakers are made by Sony and were prepackaged with the DVD player and sub
Woofer.

My computer is a Dell desktop with the stock soundcard and the operating
system is windows seven - 64.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks, Scott.

important article i found about music

2012-03-16 Thread Scott
Ok for starters, i myself do not pirate. But I think this is important
anyway because it may affect more than just piracy someday.

Internet providers pull the plug on downloaders

If the Recording Industry Association of America doesn't send you a nasty
letter in the mail for that Steely Dan album you downloaded, you might not
necessarily be quite off the hook.

Internet providers to start policing the web July 12

Published: 15 March, 2012, 20:49

TAGS:Scandal, Politics, Internet, Information Technology, USA

Some of the biggest Internet service providers in America plan to adopt
policies that will punish customers for copyright infringement, and one of
the top trade groups in the music biz announced this week that it could
begin as soon as this summer.

The chief executive officer of the Recording Industry Association of America
told an audience of publishers on Wednesday that a plan carved out last year
to help thwart piracy is expected to prevail and be put in place by this
summer. RIAA CEO Cary Sherman was one of the guest speakers among a New York
panel this week and he confirmed that, at this rate, some of the most
powerful Internet providers in America should have their new policies on the
books by July 12, 2012.

Last year, Time Warner, Verizon, ATT, Comcast, Cablevision Systems and
other Internet service providers proposed best practice recommendations that
they suggested would help curb copyright crimes on the Web. The end result
largely settled on consisted of a graduate response approach, a plan that
would mean culprits could be issued a series of warnings for illegally
downloading suspect material which, after a certain number of offenses,
would lead to mitigation measures, connection speed throttling and
termination of service.

We anticipate that very few subscribers, after having received multiple
alerts, will persist (or allow others to persist) in the content theft, the
Center for Copyright Information said in an official statement last summer
as plans were first publicized. Now nearly a year after developments made by
the big ISPs were first discussed, the RIAA's Sherman says that online
censorship sanctioned by corporate conglomerates such as Time Warner and
Verizon are practically set in stone.

Discussing the road to realizing how to implement the policies, Sherman
briefly touched on the technical aspects of the plan this week during the
panel. Each ISP has to develop their infrastructure for automating the
system, Sherman said. They need this for establishing the database so they
can keep track of repeat infringers, so they know that this is the first
notice or the third notice. Every ISP has to do it differently depending on
the architecture of its particular network. Some are nearing completion and
others are a little further from completion.

So what does this mean for you? If you're an Internet user in America,
almost certainly something significant. Between Time Warner, Verizon, ATT,
Comcast and Cablevision, those ISPs alone accounted for around 51 percent of
the market in America back in 2008. Figures from June 2010 collected by the
United Nation's ITU division suggests that there are around 240 million
Internet users now in the US, which means more than three-fourths of the
country's total population. With those big ISPs only thriving since their
last figures were disclosed, 51 percent coverage of the market today would
mean that around 120 million users can expect to fall under the umbrella of
a massive campaign that could soon see half of the country at risk of having
their Internet shut off.

As RT reported last year, a flip of the kill-switch is indeed an option that
ISPs can take if they decide they find their customers at fault. That
doesn't mean it's the be-all-end-all response, though. Under the
six-strike policy discussed last year, each alleged instance of copyright
infringement would prompt the ISP to reach out to its customer in question
and inform them that they have detected a violation of US law. Strikes one
through four would constitute email warnings of increasing severity, but
five through six can come with legal action and end with the termination of
service and potentially time behind bars. Although cooperating ISPs said
last year that they would suspend service after a certain number of
infringements, today they are hesitant to announce permanently cancelling
any accounts - but merely putting them on hold while users respond to their
legal requests.

The explanation for a change of heart, of course, comes down to money.
Earlier this year Cary Sherman penned a ranting diatribe in the New York
Times attacking opponents of the failed Stop Online Piracy Act and the
Protect IP Act - or SOPA and PIPA, respectively - two anti-Internet
legislations that had the hefty support of the RIAA.

There's no question that all the companies that are providing access to
music are benefiting in some way, legal companies, and that's entirely

Hi Brett,

I used exact audio copy to rip my cd collection, comprising around 1000
discs to flac. To date I haven't encountered any tracks with audible
artefacts, even those which eac reported as having possible errors.

Eac seems to be generally regarded as the most accurate ripping tool
around.
By utilising both secure mode, and the accurate rip facility, I reckon you
can be pretty sure if eac reports no errors you have a perfect copy.

The process of ripping even a collection of a few hundred discs can be
time
consuming, so it pays to get it right first time.

With this in mind, I personally feel it's well worth taking the time to
learn and configure exact audio copy.

Thank you, Jason. I need to take several audio files that I collect

currently can put them in a an Audio+Podcasts folder and listen to them,
but it is rather buggy at best. I'm still searching and appreciate your

m p 3 and wave files to N L S digital reader

2010-01-14 Thread scott
Greetings: My name is Scott. I'm new to the group. It has been
informative to read through the archives.

Is anyone aware of an open source solution that will allow me to convert
a series of m p 3 and wave files, and compile them into the digital book
format used by the National Library Service's digital book reader.

I am not looking for something I have to pay for, as I just want to
listen to my personal instructional m p 3 files on the N L S player and
have the ability to index them, create bookmarks, put them on a blank
cartridge and make use of the digital player that I carry with me
anyway.

I prefer open source, as I use only the Linux operating system, but a
Windows solution is better than nothing.

I am utterly ignorant regarding the N L S format, so if someone is
willing to take time to summarize the format used or provide a good link
for self-learning, I'd be equally thankful.

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,
Scott

simplest way to create playlist

2009-11-25 Thread Scott Blanks
Hi all,

What method do you folks recommend for creating a playlist? The environment is
Windows XP. The user has both Windows Media and Winamp, both of which have
capabilities similar to or exactly like what is sought. However, I'm wondering
if one of these is your preferred program to create a playlist? If so, how do
you get started? If not, which program would you recommend for creating a
playlist file. And is there any advantage or disadvantage to m3u versus pls?
The user has multiple screen readers installed, including JAWS and Window-Eyes.

Thanks all,

Windows Media Player not recognizing various cd's

2009-11-16 Thread Scott Blanks
Hi folks,

I'm working with both Winamp and Windows Media Player, and though neither
program is perfect, I'm finding that Winamp seems to Excel a bit when it comes
to identifying compact discs inserted into the computer. Is this based upon the
databases accessed by the two applications? Is there a way to enhance Windows
Media to be more productive in this regard? I use WMP to rip discs, and would
like it to automatically identify the artist/title being ripped. On perhaps a
dozen occasions over the past week, Winamp correctly labels the album, but WMP
cannot do so. I have WMP set to go on-line and retrieve additional details. Are
there other settings I can tweak for closer to ideal results?

Some quick search engine work has not produced any clear method for adding

simply put, I can open Winamp and nearly every time receive the name of the

I hope to be moving to using four or even eight tracks eventually and wonder

If you Like Streaming Radio, you'll Love moodio!

2009-08-15 Thread Scott Erichsen
Moodio is a portal for mobile phones allowing you to stream any Internet
radio station. It is easy to sign up, and the site is 100% accessible, both
on your PC and phone.

Moodio has a large database of streaming radio stations from which you can
choose. If a station you want isn't in the database, you can add it with an
easy form. Once you've added the stations you want, you log in with your
phone and your list of stations is available to you.

The service transcodes the stream for you, and sends it to your phone. There
are two reasons why this is very cool. First, my one ongoing annoyance with
Symbian is its lack of streaming Windows Media support. But with Moodio, any
Windows Media stream is available to you on your phone, as our Shoutcast
streams and a wide range of other formats.

Second, even if your phone supports some of these formats out of the box,
Moodio might save you money. If you have a cap on the amount of data you can
use each month, Moodio can send you the stream at a lower bit rate than the
original stream. let's take the stream for The Legend as an example. It is a
128KBPS MP3 stream, which uses about 15 K per second. In a little over 1
minute, you'll have used a meg. The default bit rate from Moodio is 24KBPS
parametric stereo. For the same stream transcoded by Moodio after a minute,
you'll have used only 180K. So you are getting the same stream, using about
a fifth of the data. Now because of the transcoding, and the lower bit rate,
it's not going to sound as good as the original. But the bit rate of the
stream you receive is configurable, so if quality rather than data
consumption is your aim, crank up the bit rate.

I'm thrilled to have found this, it really does rock.

I was just recommended a service I haven't seen before, and it is very cool
indeed.

Hi everyone. I've got a Realtek High Definition Audio sound card in my
Windows Vista system. There are 6 or 8 jacks on the back of my computer, and
two on the front. The front ones are no big deal, but I'm wondering if
anyone might have this card and know the configuration of the jacks on the
back. I'm attempting to get the Stereo Mix setting working in Goldwave, and
it won't work using my front microphone jack so I'd like to just see what
happens if I use the rear jack. But, I don't know which one it is, and if I
plug in something to one of the jacks I'm very politely told that a device
has been connected, but not what device it is. SMILE!!! So, any assistance
here would be helpful. I'm not sure I can get this working, and I was
extremely lucky with my last Vista machine and audio, but I'm also not
giving up until I've tried every possible option. Thanks in advance for any
thoughts.

Frequency modulation and vibrato control questions

2009-04-23 Thread scott
Hi folks,
My name is Scott Treeman, and I've been subscribed to this list for about
two years. It has been great to get more information than I know what to do
with, and learn a lot, and find just how much I don't know about production
etc.! I have a question that I've never had answered, and wonder if you can
help.
My setup is like this: One Dell desktop, One external hard drive for storage of
music only, One Cassio keyboard, used for audio tracks, and a Yamaha Clavanova
cvp/94 which I use for a controller. I have also, a dinosaur of a keyboard,
which was my first keyboard on which I had a sequencing program, this being
the Korg o1/w pro x, and have been given some tips as to its use in my setup by
the folks at Dancing Dots. My problem is as follows, It is strictly visual in
nature, in that it has a curser, which one has to line up with the track on
which one is working, and then value buttons to change the sounds in it. This
isn't really my problem, however. My problem is that I am unable to turn
local, off on the board, and thus it's unusable to me in my setup. I am
hoping to be able to bend notes and control the pitch modulation of sounds
controlled by my Clavanova, or Cassio if possible. Any suggestions in this
matter would be greatly appreciated. If possible, could you send
step-by-step, instructions as to how to get this done. When I contacted
Dancing Dots on this matter, the founder said that I could incorperate the
board into my system. If this is so, and I can use it to do this, it would be
great. Any help would be appreciated, Scott C. Treeman.

ripping and burning dvd's

Hi folks,

I am, for the first time, dipping my toe into the murky waters of copying a

and then copy that info onto another dvd disc. So basically I want to copy
disc to disc.

I have read conflicting information on how to accomplish this. Some say to
use dvd shrink, others recommend dvd decrypter, but I haven't been able to
successfully complete the process . I've used decrypter to get files onto my
computer, but couldn't proceed further.

My specs: windows xp, JAWS 9, and Roxeo is also on the system, if that
detail is important.

Thanks,

My wife purchased a Nokia N75 Cell phone for me from ATT this Christmas.
Can anyone tell me whether or not Code Factory or Talx speech programs work
with this phone. I think ATT subsidizes either one or both of these cell
phone screen readers. Also, I already have Mobile Speak for my Singular

which I think the N75 Phone is.

Thanks for your help and have a Happy New Year.

playing dvd's with windows media 11

2008-08-27 Thread Scott Blanks
Hi all,

From all indications, Windows Media 11 should support the playback of dvd
media, both the old school variety and hd dvd's. However, I am unable to get
wmp to play back the audio ... video may be coming through but I have no sight
so ...

I've set up wmp to be the default player for dvd media, and I've also made this
the action the drive should perform when a dvd disc is inserted.

wmp does open, but no sound is forthcoming. I can locate the list view
indicating the correct name of the dvd disc, but I can get no further.

Help me end my long separation from dvd movies. I'm going through withdrawal!

Thanks in advance,

I use two different programs which can take you directly from an AVI
(and several other audio and video formats) directly to an MP3 (or
several other audio and video formats). They're both very easy to use
and totally accessible with JAWS, and I would assume any other screen
 reader.

The first is Replay Converter at
 http://www.applian.com/replay-converter/index.php. It's simple to use
and can take you directly from an AVI to an MP3. It is not free.

The other program I use is Switch Sound File converter from
http://www.nch.com.au/switch/. It comes with a full functional trial
which lasts for 21 days (I think.) and then it becomes a free program
with some limitations. Even with the limitations, it can still strip the
audio from a AVI file and give you an MP3. Of course, you can purchase
this program to keep the limitations from kicking in after the trial.

I'm not sure what the current cost of either program is, but I'm sure
you can get that from their web sites.

VRStream VS Ipod: a sited users perspective

2008-04-11 Thread Scott Erichsen
VR Stream vs. iPod
4/4/2008

Although this blog post bears the ominous title of VR Stream vs. iPod,
making it sound like an epic face-off, I would like to begin by stating that
I do not think it is an either/or proposition; nor do I pretend to be doing
a full comparison of these two devices. Here's my aim: I want to describe my
experiences as a sighted user confronted with both devices, and using them
side by side.

Here's how it all started: I have owned an iPod nano for a year or so. I
like it a lot. My husband has the full-size iPod. When the VR Stream came
out, I got an early look at it, and liked its design and functionality. I
could not (and can not) see any reason why a sighted user might not enjoy
one. I convinced Anne (Taylor, our Director of Access Technology) to let me
put this hypothesis to the test, and have been using the VR Stream ever
since. This post will cover some of the pros and cons that I have come
across in everyday use.

I am perhaps an atypical iPod user in that I don't care for video content
(the screen is too small, even in the latest releases; and besides, I just
don't see the point), so I don't much miss the iPod visuals on the VR
Stream. The coverflow and video are pretty, but mostly I just want to shove
the thing into my pocket or iPod dock and listen to it. What I did miss were
the basic visual cues that tell me where I am. As a sighted user learning to
navigate by voice feedback rather than visuals takes a little bit of an
adjustment. The learning curve is a little bit longer, and the navigation is
more complex in the VR Stream than it is on the iPod. Fortunately HumanWare
has a great concise user guide online, and yes, I may have asked my blind
colleagues one or two questions; but only one or two. It would not do any
harm if HumanWare would put out an expanded manual as well as the short
manual they currently have. Mostly, though, the operation of the VR Stream
is pretty intuitive, once you get used to the audio cues.

There are a number of features available to blind users on the VR Stream
that a sighted consumer won't use – NLS books, RFBD books, and similar
content is not going to be available to a sighted user; but much of what is
designed to benefit a blind user can be useful to a sighted one. I love the
fact that when I am driving or walking around, I don't have to check a
screen to navigate. I like the text-to-speech, and the fact that I can put
the latest BBC News articles on it and have those read to me. It takes a bit
of getting used to the speech, but it works well for me, particularly when
I'm reading for information, rather than pleasure; but then who would use
text-to-speech for reading for pleasure when there are audiobooks? I signed
up for Audible when I got the VR Stream and was immediately hooked. The
digital format has made the prices a little more reasonable, and as a
stubborn multi-tasker I am enthusiastic about audiobooks. I can read and
cook, read and drive, read and do laundry; it's fabulous. Of course, one can
listen to audiobooks on the iPod, and I have certainly done that; but there
are considerable advantages to the VR Stream. It is much easier to lose
where you are in a book on the iPod, and it doesn't allow you to bookmark.
On my nano, the iPod forgets where I am whenever I sync it with iTunes. The
VR Stream on the other hand remembers where you are unless you tell it to go
elsewhere in the book. It is also much easier to navigate within audiobooks
on the VR Stream, since you can set by which time jump you want to go
back/forward (1-5-10 minutes), and can go to the next header, or to a
bookmark you choose; and you can put in a time index manually.

HumanWare’s choice to use SD cards rather than internal memory to store
content is handy if you like switching out batches of content or if you want
to be able to simply plug the card into another device like a PC or stereo.
The SD cards are also easily replaced if any mishap occurs. Some people will
prefer the iPod’s internal memory, especially in the larger capacity iPods.

The biggest handicap that the VR Stream has when compared to the iPod is not
any one capability or feature though – it is the package you get. With the
iPod and iTunes combo, the user has a single interface to manage the
library, purchase any kind of content, gather podcasts and upgrade the
software. iTunes has its downsides, and not everybody likes being locked
into one not-so-flexible system, but overall the ease of use outweighs the
downsides, especially for less tech-savvy users. If I want to use the VR
Stream to listen to podcasts, listen to Audible books, upgrade software, and
buy music, I have to (and please correct me if I am wrong – I hope there's a
better way!) use, for example, Mediafly for podcasts, Audible's interface
for their books, the HumanWare website and Windows Explorer for the software
upgrade and Napster for the music. I realize that a big part of the reason
for this situation is Apple's near-monopoly

Hi John, there sure is. Universal Radio has it, and actually, Julia bought
one for herself when she was back with family over thanksgiving, from
Circuit City. They had it on special for $299 which is one heck of a deal
for what it is.

Recently my Sangean AS909 gave up the ghost, so I did some research on
what's out there.

In the end I chose the Eton E1, made by Grundig. In the US, there is a
version of the Eton E1 that also offers XM capability. The E1 is the best
receiver I've owned since my good old Sony 2010, and there really is no
other portable out there that came close on specs. The wide filter makes
broadcast AM sound fantastic. Even for AM though, you do need to have the
antenna extended.

Here's some of what universal Radio has to say about it.

The Etón E1 XM (originally announced as the Grundig Satellit 900) is the
world's first radio that combines AM, FM, shortwave and XM Satellite radio
into one ultra high-performance unit. In development for nearly ten years,
in collaboration with RL Drake Company and XM Satellite Radio, the E1 XM is
simply the finest full-sized portable in the world. The E1 is an elegant
confluence of performance, features and capabilities. The look, feel and
finish of this radio is superb. The solid, quality feel is second to none.
The digitally synthesized, dual conversion shortwave tuner covers all
shortwave frequencies. Adjacent frequency interference can be minimized or
eliminated with a choice of three bandwidths [7.0, 4.0, 2.5 kHz]. The
sideband selectable Synchronous AM Detector further minimizes adjacent
frequency interference and reduces fading distortion of AM signals. IF
Passband Tuning is yet another advanced feature that functions in AM and SSB
modes to reject interference. AGC is selectable at fast or slow. High
dynamic range permits the detection of weak signals in the presence of
strong signals. All this coupled with great sensitivity will bring in
stations from every part of the globe. Organizing your stations is
facilitated by 500 user programmable presets with alpha labeling, plus 1200
user definable country memories, for a total of 1700 presets. You can tune
this radio many ways such as: direct shortwave band entry, direct frequency
entry, up-down tuning and scanning. Plus you can tune the bands with the
good old fashioned tuning knob (that has new fashioned variable-rate
tuning). There is also a dual-event programmable timer. Whether you are
listening to AM, shortwave, FM or XM, you will experience superior audio
quality via a bridged type audio amplifier, large built in speaker and
continuous bass and treble tone controls. Stereo line-level output is
provided for recording or routing the audio into another device such as a
home stereo. The absolutely stunning LCD has 4 levels of backlighting and
instantly shows you the complete status of your radio. Many receiver
parameters such as AM step, FM coverage, beep, kHz/MHz entry etc., can be
set to your personal taste via the preference menu. The E1 XM has a built in
telescopic antenna for AM, shortwave and FM reception. Additionally there is
a switchable antenna jack [KOK] for an external antenna. There are jacks for
Line Input, Line Output, earphones, and external speaker. The E1 XM comes
with an AC adapter or may be operated from four D cells (not included). 13.1
x 7.1 x 2.3 inches 4 lbs. 3oz. Assembled in India. This model is not
available for export.

bluetooth headset microphone

2008-03-08 Thread Scott Blanks
Hi all,

Wondering if the following scenario is feasible, and if so, which mics you
all might recommend.

I would like to be able to use a headset type mic, the sort which goes over
your head, and has a mic which curves around one side to point at your
mouth. However, I'd like it to be wireless or bluetooth, whichever would be
more effective. My intention with this set up is to be able to interact in
chat rooms, without having to be completely tethered to sitting at the pc.
It would seem that bluetooth is the stronger choice, but I will defer to
others with greater experience than myself.

Thanks,
Scott

Simple program for copying cd's

2008-01-24 Thread Scott Blanks
Hi all,

I'm searching for a program which will allow me to put a cd into my
computer, copy the contents to the hard drive, then remove the original and
put in a blank disc to make a copy. The catch is, I need this process to be
as simple as possible. I'm seeking the simplicity for a client of mine.
Earlier versions of both Nero and Roxio offered a very straightforward
interface, but I'm being told that the more recent versions of these
programs have moved away from their accessible roots. Also, I realize that
Windows Media player would allow me to accomplish this task, but I would
have to break the process into two distinct parts, ripping, and burning.

Do I have other options? Where should I begin?

Thanks,

ripping cd's into one audio track?

2007-12-04 Thread Scott Erichsen
Hi all,

I have here a number of audio books on cd I wish to convert to files to take
on my audio player. It supports mp3 or OGG. I prefer OGG.

I want to be able to rip the cd and instead of having 20 or so tracks for
each cd I want to have 1 track for each cd. so I have 11 files instead of
over 300. (SMILE)

What application would give me the best result? remembering that I don't
want to have to join all the files after ripping them. I use CDEX but it is
very tricky to do that with.
I also have soundForge with cd arketect but have never used it.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

 High Mike,
 I agree with you 150%.
I believe what the message poster was asking was how to find the titles to
untitled tracks on his hard drive.
Some store bought CD's especially older CD's from the mid to late 1980's
 don't rip properly.
You get the songs, but you don't get the info that goes with them.
All you get is unknown artist and unknown alvem.
And even after you open that folder, all you see is 01 track 1.wma or
whatever format it was ripped in.
CD's that were made after 1992 don't have this problem.
There were some 100 disc changers that would display all of the text on
 the
CD's in their LCD display windows.
I should add, there are still some CD players out there that will still
display the text on any CD you play in them.
I hope this helps us all to better understand what's going on here.
By the way Mike, thanks for the info.
  John.

This list, along with Blindtech, started out in the stable of Jonathan
 Mosen.
And up until the last year or so, the lists went in tandem through a
number of managers, including Jonathan for a 2nd time.
Last year, Tom took this list and BlindTech went its separate way.
As for the rule, Jonathan wanted to steer clear of possible copyright
infringements occurring via the list; hence, the rule on music.
I doubt that he had ever envisioned the particular direction this
 particular thread has taken.
I personally don't have a feeling on this; but perhaps Tom needs to
think this one over and decide whether where one can legally find
particular music (or lyrics) is on or off topic.
Finding hard to get songs from 3rd party sources could help a lot of
folks out particularly in gift giving season.

It may be easier for me to send you a list of songs by

The ones you can't, you could send them.

understanding Dvd-r discs

2007-11-24 Thread Scott Blanks
Hi all,

Forgive my ignorance on this topic, but I'm just now considering the
purchase of dvd-r discs for some of my storage/personal needs. I realize
however, that I know very little about the technology. Here are my
questions:

1. Can dvd-r discs be used to store mp3 and other compresse media such as
WMA? If so, is the process for burning, if that is the correct term, the
same as burning a cd? For example, can I copy/paste or send items to the dvd
drive on my pc, then perform a standard data burn via Windows Media?
2. Once I've gotten the mp3/WMA files onto the dvd-r disc, regardless of the
method, can this disc then be played back in most dvd players, including
video dvd players folks use in conjunction with their televisions? I realize
there will be exceptions, but if there is a general rule/answer to this
question, I would love to be enlightened. Also, if I have stored a large
number of files, contained in multiple folders on this dvd, will a person
using a video dvd player be able to view the names of those folders and
their files?
3. Amazon is offering a spindle of 100 dvd-r discs made by TDK for $26. Does
this seem a good bargain?

Thanks all,
Scott

At this time, use the same login id and password as last season, and

Keep in mind that with all the various services throughout the sports

So, once the season is over, don't delete your saved links as keeping them

100% = 320kbps
66% = 256kbps
33% = 192kbps
0% = 128kbps

I'm using JAWS, and what I'm having to do in order to read the bit rate is
turn on the JAWS cursor and navigate to a line underneath the slider where
the size and bit rate info is displayed. Also, I'm using wmp 10, so not sure
if the above stats are the same for the newest version of the player.

trouble accessing hockey audio stream

opened a new browser window where the audio began to play without incident.
Today, I click the link, and all I get back is the same page I started with.
No new window, no audio, nothing.

Any ideas?

another question about nhl radio online

2007-10-06 Thread Scott Blanks
Hi again,

Are any of you other nhl hockey fans out there having trouble accessing the
audio streams online? I used to be able to use the radio page on the nhl.com
site:

http://www.nhl.com/radio/index.html

However, over the past two days, whenever I access the above link, the page
indicates that there are no games available for listening. On both Friday
and Saturday, there have been a number of games. On Friday, I was able to
access one team website, that of the Anaheim Ducks, to hear there match, but
today I am unable to hear any games either through the nhl radio page or any
of the team sites.

If anyone's got some insight into this problem, I'd love to hear it, since I
can't hear anything else right now.

 Hi Kelly.

Windows media player is a very accessible animal these days and is worth

anyone taking another look. It's media library is completely accessible
 and
easy to use unlike winamp which bounces from version to version breaking
 and
fixing the library. It is easy to select which tracks you wish to rip
 using
only your PC cursor and spacebar. No need here for use of the JAWS
 cursor
or equivalent and no struggles trying to work out what is checked or not
 as
is the case with Easy Cd extractor.

All ripping functions are configurable and all functions are accessible
using tab, spacebar, application key and options from the menu bar. In
 other words completely windows standard.

In my opinion it's a better player than winamp. Just listen to a live
 album
or concept album where the tracks merge to see how seemlessly media
 player
will do this compared to winamp.

We're all a little guilty of sticking with our favourite programs and
probably not looking around enough for alternatives. Winamp has been
 used
for years by blind users and windows media player was once not very
accessible at all. Times have changed.

 Regards.

One of the benefits of using a stand alone CD ripper such as CDEX or
 Exact
Audio Copy is that these programs are highly configurable. Both
 programs
allow you take the CDDB information about the disc and have it
 displayed
 in
many different ways, depending upon user preferences. Often, mass
 market
all-in-one offerings that do a number of tasks, such as Windows Media
player, may not do all of them well. Win Media can play audio files,
 rip
CD's, and burn CD's and do it less accessibly with fewer options than
 Winamp, EAC and Nero.

So how do I get the track titles to either appear as the file name or

I can use MS Media Player 10, or Audition 1.5.
Currently, I get only track and the number, with nothing in the

 Hi

Thanks to Keith for responding to the sound taxi query I had. For a
 reason
I cannot understand the third time I tried creating the file it converted
OK, after which I was able to make a daisy book out of it which I am very
pleased about as my daisy player will be the best vehicle for navigating
 it
if I want it as well as bookmarking. There is not as far as I know an
Audible player which lets you navigate by phrase, by small or large time
increments and allows you to set multiple bookmarks etc like a daisy
 player
can as well as giving you variable speed. So this will be good.

 Thanks again.

Okay Jim,

Are you actually typing that? With the period in front of it which it looks
like you have two periods which should only be one period. So there might
be a mistake I will right it out for you and please try the command this
way.
./tools/configure

What you are actually doing on this step now that I see it Jim is okay the
script you need to run is under the Tools subdirectory that's what the
/tools is and the /configure is actually the command or script you are
running. The period in this case means a hidden file or folder.

be a mistake I will right it out for you and please try the command this
 way.
 ./tools/configure

What you are actually doing on this step now that I see it Jim is okay the
script you need to run is under the Tools subdirectory that's what the
/tools is and the /configure is actually the command or script you are
running. The period in this case means a hidden file or folder.

 Hi Gang:

Perhaps one of you technical wizzards can help me figure something out.

I am wanting to create my own SAPI5 voice file for Rockbox under Cigwin.

There is a discription of how to accomplish this task; however, I'm not
 understanding one of the steps.

 The information is as follows:

 list of 5 items
 1. mkdir build
 2. cd build
 3. ../tools/configure
 4. Follow the on-screen instructions, selecting:
list of 5 items nesting level 1
 1. your target platform (a number)
 2. A for advanced
 3. V for voice
 4. Your TTS engine (F for festival, E for espeak, L for flite or S for
 SAPI5)
 5. Select your language (a number) or press ENTER for English.
 list end nesting level 1
 5. make voice
 list end
You now have a language.voice file.

The question is, how does one get to step 3:
 3. ../tools/configure.

Obviously, there is something else that I need to download and install
 besides Cigwin.

Any help would be appreciated all over the place.

Re: Freecorder toolbar

2007-08-22 Thread Scott Erichsen
Hi Brian,

I just installed it under xp and it is showing on my toolbar.
I get options like record, play, stop, pause, convert
Interspursed with the regular IE7 stuff.
Best way to get to it is the following:
1. tab or shift-tab in IE7 till you get to the toolbar refresh F5 button
2. activate the jaws cursor.
3. arrow up to the toolbars and you should see some options like
record/play/stop/pause convert etc.

Hope this helps.

Hi

I did volunteer to write some jaws scripts for the Freecorder toolbar.
However, despite installing it onto two machines, choosing Internet Explorer
as the browser, I cannot see the toolbar with the jaws cursor at all. I
have of course maximised the application window. I am sure it must be
something quite straightforward, but I wondered if anyone else has
experienced the same?

Thanks.

 Hi

I want to record a few audio programs from a web site at scheduled times.
Is total recorder still a good option for doing this please or are people
finding that other tools are more accessible or easier to use. I have not
used total recorder before but I see there are various presentations about
it around on the internet but just wondered if anything surpasses that.

 Thank you.

Hi Brian, I've owned Total Recorder since it first came out, I think at
least a decade ago now, but I think Replay A/V is better for what you're
wanting to do in this case. Chris's message was very thorough and
 detailed.
Replay A/V has become one of my most essential audio-related pieces of
software. Not only do I use it to record from a vast variety of streams
 and
streaming formats, but it also works as a very convenient tuner. In this
way, you don't have to worry about whether the stream is a Real, WM, or
 MP3
one. Just add it to Replay A/V, locate it in the listview, and press
control+T. It will also record from TV tuner cards, and as Chris said, the
URL finder is a fantastic tool for when you want to get a stream that is
imbedded on a web page to come up in a stand-alone player. I use it to
 tune
into streams from the online versions of XM and Sirius, all of which are
 now
in my list of stations so I can get at them automatically because it will
 log me onto those services.

While you can indeed convert the stream to the format of your choice, you
can also just dump the stream to your hard drive. For example, I record a
lot of BBC material and play it using realOne Player on my PAC Mate.

The Aplian people have been most responsive to accessibility issues and I
can't speak highly enough of this software.

Listening Online to Football/soccer

2007-06-28 Thread Scott Blanks
Hey guys,

Anybody have suggestions on where to listen to the Copa America soccer
games? I can find a ton of Spanish feeds, but thus far nothing that will be
broadcast in English. Perhaps it's not, but I figured since this was the
world wide web, The United States' lack of interest shouldn't be much of a
factor. However, I'm striking out so far, if I may mix my metaphors.

Any help would be appreciated. I'd love to listen to tonight's game.
