RE: Adobe Audition

2017-06-10 Thread Steve Jacobson
Dave,

It would be nice if we get someone with current information, but I can provide
a little. Starting with version 3 of Adobe Audition, they began displaying
some data on the screen using a method that is generally not picked up by
screen readers. I used Audition a lot before that version but switched to
Sound Forge. However, it is my understanding that they have done a pretty good
job over time of making data that is not picked up by screen readers available
through MSAA and UIA. While this is very good, it generally means that one
probably will have to get scripts to get at this information. It is my
understanding that there are JAWS scripts but they may not be free. The bottom
line is that Adobe Audition is probably worth checking out to see if you can do
what you need to do with it, but the experience may be somewhat different than
with sound forge.

I would be very curious to know what you are required to do with Adobe Audition
that you can't do with Sound Forge. There were things I felt were easier to do
with Audition, and I still sometimes get a little frustrated with selecting
portions of a file with Sound Forge and wonder if I should check out Audition
again.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

Does anyone on this list use that app and if so is the accessibility good?

Adobe Audition centre channel extract

2014-06-28 Thread Laurence Taylor
This is what used to be called Cool Edit.

I am using Audition 1.5 to clean up recording of old 78rpm records.

The main process involves the Centre Channel Extract function
(since most surface noise is out of phase), and it works very
well, often needing nothing else to be done.

However, the resulting file has a low-level repeated burst of
phase distortion, a sort of meep ... meep ... meep, which can
be very distracting.

I've tried playing with the settings but nothing seems to help
much, likewise filtering doesn't assist as the meeps are too
wideband.

Any ideas as to what it cold be and whay I could do about it, or
is it just something I'll have to put up with? (Up with which I
will have to put).

It's certainly much better than the frying bacon that was there
before!

Laurence,

I used Audition 1.5 for a long time, and liked it. There are two things I can
suggest. First, make sure that the sound you are hearing is really part of the
file
and not a problem with Audition's playback. Create the file using the center
channel extractor and then play it with another program such as Windows
Media Player.

Second, I was thinking that the center channel extractor did more than just
combine channels, and it is possible that combining channels will do most of
what you want to do. Try just combining channels and see whether it avoids the
problem and gets you most of the way there or not. I think there is an
item to do that but don't remember where it is any more, or you can probably do
it by creating a monaural file.

I had to let Audition go because I couldn't get it to install on a 64-bit
system. It was more complicated than that as I had upgraded from previous
versions
and couldn't install one of the previous versions that was required. I wonder,
though, if there could be some incompatibility with Windows 7.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

Although I would not argue with the assessment of Audition, apparently Audition
makes some of its information available through
MSAA, or possibly UI Automation, so there is some possibility that it could be
made more accessible with scripting. However, I
think there are still gaps in the accessibility. I was a CoolEdit and Audition

frustrated to see this change, but I thought it was worth mentioning that if
someone needs to use Audition for some reason, there
might be some possibilities that have not been explored because of the

Hi,
Even though there is a quite steep learning curve for Audacity it really has
all you'd ever need for audio editing.
And even if it doesn't have what you want it within the program you can get
various plugins for free that enhances the experience dramatically, and the

I use Audacity every week for recording Handiham audio lectures and a weekly

can see and do not access it with a screenreader but I know its developers do
pay attention to accessibility.  Before I used Audacity, I had Cool Edit by
Syntrillium software.  It was bought by Adobe and turned into Audition, which I

really did get to like it. The tools I use most are noise reduction,
normalization, automatic leveling, and the automatic trimming of silence.

Re: Accessibility of Adobe Audition

2013-02-10 Thread Brian Olesen

Hi Donald,
You're perfectly right.
The problem is.
We kno the songs in their original shape, and from the beginning it was
meant to sound that way.

When we remove noise we make the sound too steril for the time being.
It's like when a photographer wants to share a special moment an evening in
a pop by the river. Such a picture needs to be a little bit dull. If you
turn on the cleaning lights then you won't get the right expression of the
whole feeling in the situation.
When the viewer was there they could see no dust or bad looking furniture,
but they could feel a good intence carma in the room, which would disappear
if all the lights are turned on.

The same with old recordings. Then things will come up front that you didn't
notice before, and don't want to notice at all in that particular musical
experience.
Like a bad reverb for instance, which you couldn't hear before because of
the high noise floor.

But it's a totolly other storry with a really noisy old audio book. Here it
would be wonderful to clear up the vocal, so the words are easier to
understand.

Best regards
Brian

I do not claim to be knowledgeable regarding noise reduction. However,
most of the time I have dealt with old recordings which have been
subjected to noise reduction software, there are almost no highs
whatsoever. I am thinking of a lot of big band and vocal recordings
made on 78s during the 30s and 40s, and yes I know that the modulating
frequencies were seldom more than 5000 cycles. But I have heard a
number of those recordings on the original vinyl and later heard those
same recordings after going through noise reduction procedures, and the
resulting sound is so bland that I would much prefer the originals,
complete with hiss and a few pops.

As stated earlier, I haven't played with this stuff much, so I am not
bashing. I am just suggesting that good sound is an extremely
subjective thing.

auto noise capture in sound forge is great, and
then the trick is to get it to lower the defaults
to more than one of the saved configurations to more than 12.5 DB.
You can totally get rid of cassette noise, for
example, at about -40 DB or so, any more than
that and it starts to make the typical NR swishy
sounds which are not desirable.

auto noise capture in sound forge is great, and
then the trick is to get it to lower the defaults
to more than one of the saved configurations to more than 12.5 DB.
You can totally get rid of cassette noise, for
example, at about -40 DB or so, any more than
that and it starts to make the typical NR swishy
sounds which are not desirable.

Hi Sam,

My view might be a little subjective but from what I've tried out in the
past when I got myself Adobe Audition just to take a look at it got totally
worse than e.g. 2.1 version of Adobe Audition when you know they changed
their label from Cool Edit which was the predecessor of that one. I wasn't
confortable with that as many objects were placed without any shortcut keys
on the screen beyond the menu so OK it was possible to grab them using the
virtual mouse and crowling around but it was a real pain. It has the
standard menu from what I remember and maybe they improved some particular
things of that I can't tell but generally the older version were incredible
having most of things in menu reachable via the keyboard unlike the latest
versions. But maybe somebody knowing more of that will chime in. I say the
most blind-friendly one is Sound Forge:).

For the record I don't think it'll be better with Window Eyes as the
universal way of the layout and localizing the object is identical to all
screen readers regardless of whether it's NVDA Jaws or Window Eyes etc.

Re: Accessibility of Adobe Audition

Don,

There are at least two things that can happen with noise reduction. First,
some noise reduction algorithms do cause a loss of high frequencies. The noise
reduction in Sound Forge actually has an option to
add highs back, but one could do the same with an equalizer. However, hiss,
itself, can make a recording sound brighter. I have heard examples where the
sound spectrum with and without hiss was made
the same, and the one with hiss sounded brighter. As you say, sound is very
subjective in some ways, but the ear can be fooled as well. More than once I
have thought I had found a tremendous set of
parameters to get rid of noise on a recording, only to find there were
artifacts of noise reduction that were very apparent to me when I listened the
next day. It is a challenge.

I will try a demo of Reeper and see if it works. However, I was wondering
if Sound Forge would allow me to add my own impulse response files o the
acoustic mirror, as I am also considering that.

Samuel why don't you try reaper with re-access. It is a very accessible

 Samyuel,

I am a Window-Eyes user and I used Adobe Audition in its early days and
CoolEdit before then which Adobe purchased. The current version of
 Audition
conveys information to screen readers using other
methods that are not evident from the screen. Mostly, I think MSAA is
 used,
although there could be some UI Automation. What this means is that if
 you
just try to explore the screens with the mouse pointer,
you are going to notice that some things that others see on the screen are
just not there. GW Micro does have an Audition app that gets a lot of the
information you need. When I tried that some time ago, it
worked pretty well, but there were some gaps when dealing with certain
plug-ins. I had switched to Sound Forge before these capabilities became
available, though, so I didn't buy a full Audition version, and I
have not tried it for a while.

I would suggest that you ask on the GW-Info list, though, and I would also
see if you can get a demo version and plan on really working the heck out
 of
it for thirty days or so. I don't know if you can download
 a demo version or not.

If you do try this, I for one would be very, very interested to hear what
you find out. Also, if there are specific problems, Aaron Smith of GW
 Micro
might be willing to see if something can be done with the app.
While I am not unhappy with Sound Forge, I would consider moving back to
 Audition if it works reasonably.

 Good luck.

2012-12-04 Thread Steve Jacobson
In case this matters, I also really liked Audition's Noise Reduction. However,
I feel as though the Sound Forge Noise reduction
is just as good but one needs to play with it some. For example, the Sound
Forge noise reduction plug-in as four different modes,
and certain modes work better with certain kinds of content. I didn't feel I
had to work as hard at Audition's noise reduction to
get good results, but if you are forced away from Audition, I think you can do
all right with the Sound Forge noise reduction
plug-in if you experiment with settings..

Cooledit and Adobe Audition 2.1. Bu t I use Soundforge more.

Hello Steve, the reason I am interested in using Adobe Audition is because
of its multitrack capabilities, and also because it has convolution reverb
capabilities. I know that Sound Forge has a convolution plug-in called
the

Acoustic Mirror, I do not know whether I could import my own impulse
response files into this. Thank you.

Good luck.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

Your cautions are legitimate, but there were some changes that were intended to
help screen readers between Adobe audition 2 and 3. I have not experimented
enough to know where things are now, but if
someone has a reason to want to use Audition, I really think it is worth trying
the demo to see where things are now.

Hello Christopher, I may be taking a course at a radio station in a few

app available for Window-Eyes, I thought I would ask other people's opinions

Help with Adobe Audition 1.5.

Adobe Audition

2011-02-02 Thread Brian Blair
My employer has Adobe Audition 1.0 and I've heard that 1.5 fixes some
problems in 1.0. However, I've heard that later versions are pretty
inaccessible with speech. Does anyone here have experience with the latest
version of Adobe Audition? I've seen some JFW scripts for Audition 1.0 but I
find Soundforge much easier to use. However, since our network of radio
stations use Audition it's helpful to be able to use it, and I'd like to see
us upgrade to a later version.

2011-02-02 Thread Steve Pattison
Hi Brian,

This may not be a practical solution but if you're familiar with
Window-Eyes or perhaps want to try a demonstration copy of Window-Eyes
there are Window-Eyes scripts for Adobe Audition 3 available at

https://www.gwmicro.com/Script_Central/Scripts/Script_Details/?scriptid=1219

Information about the scripts are below:

This script provides speech enhancements to Adobe Audition 3 when
navigating around the Audition interface (for example, when using
Alt-Page Up and Alt-Page Down to focus the various panes). For a list of
all keyboard shortcuts, refer to the Adobe Audition Help menu.

combined these packages do an excellent job for audio, I also use Amadeus Pro

Hi Dane, I use Soundforge, Adobe Audition 1.5 and Sornar eight with

caketalking and hear the click as I pass each one.

Adobe Audition does have multi tracking but it is not very accessible for a
screenreader user. You can use the mouse routing keys in a screenreader to
reach the various tracks. However, it is not that easy and one must not
loose concentration about there they are currently working. I like Adobe
Audition's sound efects.

I like soundforge for the easy cuing feature and much more.

I( have been using some version of these programs fro around 13 years at a
school and in my home. So in short, Adobe has some good features but most
not that accessible.

Re: Adobe Audition

2010-09-01 Thread G. McFarlane

Hi again
The last Audition to be accessible to Jaws was Ver 1.5. If you can get this
then you should be able to access the multitrack options. It does need
particular jaws scripts though and they may only work with earlier versions
of Jaws and only up to Windows XP. I haven't tried this in Windows 7 -
except that it hangs up Windows 7 64 bit - it might just work in 32 bit but
I haven't tried.

Hi Joe,

In your message you left out one very important detail! You forgot to
tel us what screen reader you want these scripts for (smile). There are
Window-eyes scripts for Adobe Audition 3 available from

https://www.gwmicro.com/Script_Central/Scripts/Script_Details/?scriptid=1219

I haven't tried Adobe Audition so I don't know how well these scripts
work. I hope this helps.

adobe audition 1.5 jaws scrips problem

2010-01-04 Thread dan thompson

Hi All,
I tried installing the jaws scrips for audition 1.5 using jaws 10.
this is what I did and now have problems opening adobe audition because I
tried switching to miulti-track mode once.

1.
copied all the files inside the jfwaudition1.0beta5.zip file to my JFW
settings, enu directory .

2. I was told that I would need to open both audition.jss and audtips.jss
separately in JFW script

manager and press control+s to re-compile them.

I did that with the audition.jss file. But I could not find the
audtips.jss file to recompile it.

3. Opened audobe audition and everything worked. Until, I tried pressing
f12 to switch to multi-track view. But it will work with window-eyes. So
it is something in the scripts. Does anyone have some ideas or now where to
get some scripts to fix the problem. Now

The authors of this version of scripts are:
Authors: James Teh, Victer Tsaran and Michael Curran.

If any of these people perhaps is on the list maybe they can email me and I
will work with them off list as not to clutter up the list.

I could uninstall all the audobe audition scrips but I think it can be
fixed. I am just the crazy one who probably didn't follow directions
correctly.

Any help would be great appreciated.

Re: adobe audition 1.5 jaws scrips problem

2010-01-04 Thread G. McFarlane

Hi Dan
I did get them working beyond Jaws 7, certainly to version 9 and possibly
10.
I found that they only worked if I made sure that they were in the Jaws
settings - not the ones in 'All Users' but in the Jaws settings in my own
profile in Documents and Settings. (This was in XP home) Maybe this is the
problem. They did not work if I had 2 versions - I had to remove all the
script files for Audition in the 'All User' jaws settings and only have
them in my own user settings.

2010-01-04 Thread Steve S
Hi Brett. Sonar is a top piece of software that delivers both in the audio
and midi field. It's highly accessible using either Caketalking or JSonar,
although it can be quite a learning curve to get the most out of it. So, in
answer to your question, no it isn't just midi and the audio part is
extremely detailed and highly accessible. HTH, cheers Steve.

Isn't sonar mostly used for midi music? Or is the audio part just as
detailed and accessible?
I was told that unless you use a lot of midi it's really not worth the
price. Maybe I was given bad advice?

What do yall think?

Sornar 8 is extremely suitable for your needs. I must admit I haven't used
all of it's features yet. But have used some affects, recored many many
programs and local artists using the multi-tracks from sornar 4 up to sornar

I also like the import and exporting, features.

Re: adobe audition

2010-01-03 Thread dan thompson

You can order both CakeTalking and SONAR at Dancing Dots.
CakeTalking costs $289 and works fine with JAWS 10. SONAR has 2
   editions
which they sell for the minimum advertised price. The Producer Edition
is

$499 and the Studio Edition is $299. They are both excellent but the
Producer Edition comes with a few more soft synthe instruments including
the Session Drummer 3, more audio effects and more options to
customize some

of the effects also contained in the Studio Edition.

For $99 you can order the Fast Track USB or, for $199, the Fast Track
Pro. Both of these units are high-end audio interfaces/soundcards
that
connect using USB. It's important to have a separate soundcard to
dedicate to

recording and playing back the audio that comes with SONAR.

Lastly, you should make certain that your PC at least meets the
minimum System Requirements for SONAR. See
   http://www.dancingdots.com/prodesc/CakeTalkingForSONAR.htm for System
Requirements for CakeTalking and a link to the System Requirements for
SONAR.

To order online, see the link that says: Order CakeTalking and Related
Accessories Now which you will find on that same page. For the Fast
   Track:
   http://www.dancingdots.com/prodesc/soundcards.htm

Or just call us at 610-783-6692 and press Option 1 for Sales.

Re: adobe audition

2010-01-03 Thread dan thompson
Caketalking makes it possible to use jaws better with sornar. You can hear
the tracks click as you pass them, sounds when arming/unarming a track and
much more. There is a program called jsornar I think is free but I haven't
used it much to speak very much about the features.
Dancing dots usually sell caketalk with sornar because sonar doesn't have
any speech with it. Window-eyes does work with sornar. However you don't
get all the sounds confirming when a given action has taken place. It just
depends how much feedback you wish and if caketalk can fit in your budget.
I had to save up for around a year and ahalf to get my first sornar and
didn't get any of the upgrades between sornar four and eight because I
couldn't come up with the money until version eight came out.

Maybe someone else on the list can speak on jsonar.
Sorry for the lack on info on jsonar from me.

They are both excellent but the
Producer Edition comes with a few more soft synthe instruments
 including
the Session Drummer 3, more audio effects and more options to
 customize some
of the effects also contained in the Studio Edition.

Track:

Or just call us at 610-783-6692 and press Option 1 for Sales.

Caketalking makes it possible to use jaws better with sornar. You can
hear

the tracks click as you pass them, sounds when arming/unarming a track and
much more. There is a program called jsornar I think is free but I
haven't

used it much to speak very much about the features.
Dancing dots usually sell caketalk with sornar because sonar doesn't have
any speech with it. Window-eyes does work with sornar. However you don't
get all the sounds confirming when a given action has taken place. It
just

depends how much feedback you wish and if caketalk can fit in your budget.

Re: adobe audition

2010-01-03 Thread G. McFarlane

Hi
I've used Audition for years now but only in the 1.5 version. I use the
scripts and find them very accessible especially with the Multitrack
section. They were written for Jaws 7 but I did manage to install them in XP
into the Jaws 9 and 10 enu setting, but they only appeared to work for me
when in the Jaws settings in the User section, not the All User section.
I didn't find them too good for positioning a file in a track, but for
recording 8 or 4 tracks then editing they were great.
I'm now onto Sonar and although the Audio effects are more limited than in
Audition they work well, especially the time/pitch shift. I believe version
8.5 is better for Audio effects etc. and will find out soon when I purchase
it.
If you can get a copy of Audition 1.5 it may be fairly cheap - certainly
cheaper than the Sonar/Caketalking route - but if you want to keep up to
date then unless someone writes scripts for the Audition v3 or above
versions with their new interface, then you'll be working with an old
technology with older algorithms. They're good so it probably doesn't
matter, but, assuming effects and options get better there will come a time
when it may get left behind a bit.

Greetings,

I've just posted the first version of a script for Adobe Audition 3.0.
After talking with the Audition developers, and with the addition of
scripting to Window-Eyes, we've been able to make Audition much more
accessible than before (seeing as how it wasn't really accessible at all
before). Now you can hear detailed information as you navigate the
Audition window. For example, when you press Alt-Page Up and Alt-Page
Down to traverse through the various panes, you'll hear the pane name.
Then you can tab through the various controls in that pane and have both
the control's name and value read to you.

If you have a copy of Adobe Audition 3.0, give this script a try, and
let me know how you do.

After talking with the Audition developers, and with the addition of
scripting to Window-Eyes, we've been able to make Audition much more
accessible than before (seeing as how it wasn't really accessible at
all before). Now you can hear detailed information as you navigate the
Audition window. For example, when you press Alt-Page Up and Alt-Page
Down to traverse through the various panes, you'll hear the pane name.
Then you can tab through the various controls in that pane and have
both the control's name and value read to you.

If you have a copy of Adobe Audition 3.0, give this script a try, and
let me know how you do.

Hi Brian,

You and other JAWS users could use a demonstration copy of Window-Eyes
just for the times when you want to use Adobe Audition.

Regards Steve.
