Re: Burning CD's

2011-12-27 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Are you looking for a burning program or a ripping program? You're
asking about a burning program, which is where you want to burn music
from your PC onto a empty CD, but later you talk about getting music off
of a CD and onto your PC, which is ripping.

I believe you can just use Windows Explorer to copy or burn music from
your PC to a blank CD. You might need to have the music selected or a
blank CD inserted before these options show up. It's been a while since
I've done it, and that was on Windows XP.

If you're looking for a way to rip CD's with Windows 7 then I believe
the program you're looking for is Windows Media Player.

Sorry, Christopher, I was somewhat distracted when I wrote the e-mail. What
I want to do right now is to transfer a couple CD's to the computer so that
I can then move them to some of my portable players.

I did not have a CD inserted when I looked at Windows Explorer and, you're
right that could make a difference.

Thanks for your help. XP was so much easier I thought. I'm not sure if
I'll ever get used to 7.

Re: Burning CD's

2011-12-27 Thread Christopher Chaltain
So it sounds like you want to get music from your CD's onto your PC.
After that, you want to transfer that music to your portable players.
Would these portable players be things like MP3 players? Do they involve
CD's at all?

I think you want to rip your CD's, It doesn't sound like you want to do
any burning. Windows Media Player will rip the music from your CD's and
then place it onto your PC. It'll also let you update portable media
players. You don't need Windows Explorer for any of this. Other
applications, such as Winamp, iTunes and so on will do the same thing.
You can also use a ripper like CDex to get the music from the CD onto
your PC. Depending on the MP3 player, you may be able to use Windows
Explorer to copy music files to your MP3 player. This assumes that it
shows up as a removable drive when you plug it in.

RE: Burning CD's with Windows XP [was Re: Recording Live AudioStreams]

2010-10-15 Thread Frank Ventura
The way I used to do it with XP was to go to the folder where I had the
files I wanted to burn to CD and copy all of them to the clipboard. Then
I would go into My Computer and open up the CD ROM drive (with no disk
inserted) and paste in the files. Then I would close that window and
reopen My Computer and arrow down to the CD Rom drive and press the
context menu (applications) key and one of the choices is Burn these
files to disk which would bring up the wizard. This works for CDs.
Evidentally XP does not support burning of DVDs natively, although I
think Win 7 does.

Problem Burning CD's

2008-10-31 Thread Samuel Wilkins
Hello there, I am having a problem burning CD's. This only happens with some
CD's. I know it is not a problem with the CD burning program. I think it may be
a problem with the CD burning drive or a problem with the CD. I'm trying to
burn some songs onto a CD from ITunes. It tells me that it is preparing disk.
Then it ejects the CD and gives me the following error. The attempt to burn a
disk failed. An unknown error has occurred (4280). What is going on?

Burning CD's

2008-08-01 Thread Dean Masters
I use roxio 5 on an XP machine. sometimes when I burn audio cd's either
mp3's on data cd or mp3 to audio cd the second track getsburnt twice and the
first is not there. so I hear the second track then the second track then
third, etc. It doesn't do this all the time. Is theresomething I can do so I
can get the first track to be there every time?

This happened once so I turned my PC off and back on. then I was able to get
the whole audio cd. I tried this with another cd but still got two of the
second track.

Thanks,
Dean

Hi Terri,
If you are burning music cd's, it is recommended that you use cdr's, and not
cdrw disks.
Possible causes for this message are:
1. the disk is in the drive upside down.
2. the disk is corrupt.
You can get bad disks even if they are new.
3. If the disk is a cdrw, it may need to be erased, or will not work for
this particular use.
4. You may have inserted the disk at an inappropriate timeduring the setup
dialogue, and the disk has not been recognized.
You will have to experiment with this because this is not always consistent
from system to system.
If I've missed anything, I'm sure someone else will let me know. smile.

Subject: sp2 and burning CD's, issues?

Hi everyone!
this question might have been raised before and if yes well all my
apologies to ask it again.

I recently upgraded to windows xp sp2 pro edition. I don't know if it is
related to this but yesterday I wanted to burn a CD. Everything seemed to
run smoothly and my burning software (I used real player 10 for this) said
that tracks were on CD. As I checked the CD I found out that there was
nothing at all on it.
I used a CDR, burning at a 24X speed.
After this I tried with roxio easy CD Creator 5 and nothing. Same issue.
So, what is it due to? Is there something in SP2 that prevents the burning
of CDs?
Do I need to upgrade roxio to CD/DVDcreator 7?

I'm asking this because given the price of such upgrade I'd like to make
sure that there is an issue with sp2. If there is none known then that
means that the problem comes from somewhere else (CD burner for instance)

Thanks in advance for your kind answer

2004-12-30 Thread Susan Wojtecki

I have purchased/downloaded several tracks from Wallmart.com which are in
.wma format. I don't know the steps to burning them using Windows Media
Player but was hoping to find a way to burn them along with other .mp3 files
to a CD. I suspect the answer is no, but is there a program that will allow
me to burn from both formats without having to convert the .wma files to
.wav or .mp3 with a probable loss of quality? I'd appreciate if anyone has
ideas on the best way to do this. Many thanks in advance.

Wheeew! I finally found it! I knew I'd stumbled on the easy way to compile
and order files in nero, but as usual, I found it bashing and crashing
around and later, never remembered how I did it. But anyway, once you've
selected a new compilation and have set it to do an audio cd, tab to where
it says tree view and select your hard drive or whichever drive contains
the stuff you want on the cd.
Then, tab to new. Hit alt so you're in the menus and right-arrow to edit.
Down arrow to add and you can now shift-tab back to treeview and pick the
folder where the files resice and keep hitting enter til you get to the
list of files.
Then, pick each file in the order you wantum to appear on the cd and tab
forward to add. Keep doing that til done and tab to finish. Now you're
ready to burn the thing.

Hi Jay,

Thanks much. I appreciate the concise explanation. I'm just starting to
really do some of this burning stuff and that was helpful.

I have one perhaps dumb question, but if you want to play a cd and store
it's contents on the hard drive, what is the easiest way to do this. I got
it accomplished, but I forgot how. What I did after I got the stuff in a
folder was to go down and delete anything I didn't want and keep the rest.
