Hi gang:

Are there any major audio and MIDI performance differences between firewire,
USB, and PCI soundcards?

Thanks all over the place gang.

Soundcard question.

2008-03-28 Thread James Scholes
Hi all, I recently looked into buying a creative sound blaster soundcard, but
the product specification said maximum sampling rate: 192 hz. So, if I had
sounds with a higher sampling rate going through this card, what would happen?

Where are you going to find audio with a sample rate higher than 192Khz?

If you actually had such a thing I'm assuming it would be down sampled to
192Khz sample rate?

soundcard question (again)

Hi Gang:

Because of M-Audio's problems with Windows Media Center, I am thinking about
abandoning my Delta 66 soundcard and acquiring a new card or, perhaps
installing XP Pro.

Can anyone recommend a good soundcard which has a software interface that is
both accessible and also works with Windows Media Center?

USB Creator Soundcard Question

2005-11-13 Thread Julia Aguilar
Hi,
I just purchased the SoundBlaster Live, 24 bit external soundcard. From
reading the manual, I can see the presence of a separate line in and
microphone port. When I go to volume control, under playback and recording
options, the line in/microphone is one check box. IS there any way of
changing these into two check boxes? IF so, will I need another driver to
make the change occur?

Thanks,
Julia

HI Julia,

I assume you have ticked the specific items to be displayed via the list
box found in the volume properties? If you don't have an item ticked such
as microphone, it won't be shown in the desired volume control whether that
be the playback or recording volume control.

RE: USB Creator Soundcard Question

2005-11-13 Thread David Truong
Hi Julia,

Ok, well I don't know if your USB sound card would be that different to my
External SoundBlaster Audigy 2NX. The Audigy 2NX is also a USB
SoundBlaster live card. Somehow I don't think the actual hardware of the
two cards would be different. With my card, the behaviour you describe is
normal. There is only one volume control for the line-in and the Microphone
despite the fact that there are two separate ports. If your USB
SoundBlaster card acts the same as mine as I suspect, I think you will find
that if you plug in a microphone into the mic jack as well as something into
the line-in port, , the line-in port will become active and the Microphone
will not work regardless if you put a microphone into the microphone port.
However, the microphone will work once you take what you have plugged into
the line-in port out. If that makes sense. In other words, the line-in
takes priority over the Microphone. Mind you it could be the other way
around as I no longer use that USB card any more therefore it's been a while
since I have looked at the ports etc.

David,

Yes, it sounds just like your other soundcard. This is exactly what my
soundcard does.

In speaking to Jonathan Mosen, he stated he had a soundcard just like yours,
and he had to change drivers or something in order to correct the one
checkbox problem. He doesn't remember how he achieved this, however.

Unfortunately, I need both the mic and line in ports to work independently

to
your requirements as described. All the Delta cards are almost sonically
the same. They use the same technology but differences in configurations

inputs and outputs etc make them sonically a little different. Most
people
would never notice however. Sorry if I overlooked a private post from you

Re: Delta soundcard question

2004-10-26 Thread Tim Crawford
Many thanks Brian, Jerry and Matthew. Your responses were much appreciated.
Following on from Matthew's comments, would it be possible to set the card's
parameters to record at 16 bit, 44.1khz for subsecquent transfer to cd?
Or would a recording made at 24 bit, 96khz simply loose the extra quality
when burnt to the cd format. In other words, would some sort of convertion
be neccessary?

Many thanks,
Tim, Bangor, N. Ireland

Hello, cd quality sound is 16 bit, and 44100 samples. If you're recording
in
24 bit at 96 khz, the higher end audio will not be accepted by the lower
cd-quality. Therefore, in order to retain the 24/96 parameters, you may
have
to use DVD audio. I'm not exactly sure about this, but there are detailed
instructions and tips if you search on google for the FAQ on taping with
laptops. A sound card with cd-quality sound will do fine, but I have no
experience with recording digitally. I just plug a cord into the sound
card
with my source material coming into the line in port on the sound card
from
the cord.
Thanks a lot.

Hello Tim,
These things are normally handled by your recording program.
But some of the cards comes with applications for such ajustments, too.
I don't know, if forinstance sound forge overrules the setting of the card.

Delta soundcard question

2004-10-25 Thread Tim Crawford
Hi!
I'm looking to purchase a new soundcard which will enable me make high
quality recordings from an external source, say a digital sattelite receiver
directly on to the hard drive of my computer. I also want to connect the PC
to my hi-fi system, so would require a card which will deliver high quality
output.
Going on there excellent reputation, I've been looking at the Delta range
from M-audio, in particular the Audiophile 2496.
Would this card satisfy my requirements in both respects? or would any of
the others in the Delta range be a better alternative.
Would be most grateful for any opinions, as I'm fairly new to sound
recording.
Thanks,
Tim, Bangor, N. Ireland

2004-10-25 Thread Brian Olesen
Hi Tim,
The delta cards from M-audio are all really really good semi professionel
cards. Maybe I'd buy a delta66 just to get the fine breakout box, where you
can connect and disconnect your cables easily via the very solid plugs it
has. But you'll also find the audiofile being a wonderful card. But I hate
creeping around on the floor switching cables all the time. grin.

Newbee With A Multichannel Soundcard Question?

2004-04-16 Thread Paul Hutson
Hi all.

I am trying to determine whether or not I have a multichannel soundcard. It
seems that in some cases it is acting like a multichannel card because I can
play an audio CD in Winamp, and hear Jaws speak, and music playing at the
same time. However, when playing an MP3 file in Winamp, Jaws will NOT
speak. Also, when I try to enter the chat rooms in Audio-tips, I get the
message can not access your output device, another program is using it.
But, I can have speech and music playing at the same time using Windows
Media Player.
My soundcard is a Maestro and I am running a Dell Inspiron5000 laptop
computer with Win98 S. E. and Jaws 4.51.
Is there a setting in control pannel that I need to change that controls my
soundcard playback?
This has been BUGing me for a long time so ANY help or assistance
someone could give me would be VERY VERY much appreciated.

Paul

Hi Paul,

Unfortunately you do not have a multi-channel card. Single channel cards
only allow one mp3 or wav source to run through them. Multi-channels allow
just what the name implies. I had to get rid of a creative labs PCI128 for
the same reason. Got a sound blaster audigy for about 100 buckeroos at the
time I snatched it and haven't looked back. Hopefully I am explaining this
correctly if not I know that folks out hear can further clear this up.

Hi Paul,

I had sighted assistance for instaling the hardware. Since I don't have a
laptop, I can't answer that question with certainty. My guess is that it
will function in one though. As far as the sound card acting multi-channel,
I think that it may have something to do with the audio cd's file type.
Files with the normal cda file extension will play despite the output
source. Again I could be wrong about all of this so don't hold me to givving

Hi, paul. The audigy has a line of external sound device for laptops,
called the audigy 2 nx or xn, don't remember now which one of those it is,
but I own one, use it on my desktop, and it works wonderfully. I got mine

I had sighted assistance for instaling the hardware. Since I don't have a
laptop, I can't answer that question with certainty. My guess is that it
will function in one though. As far as the sound card acting
multi-channel,
I think that it may have something to do with the audio cd's file type.
Files with the normal cda file extension will play despite the output
source. Again I could be wrong about all of this so don't hold me to
givving
 you absolute gospel.

Well, Tony, were you able to install your soundblaster without sighted
 help?

   Hi Paul,

Unfortunately you do not have a multi-channel card. Single channel
 cards
only allow one mp3 or wav source to run through them. Multi-channels
  allow
just what the name implies. I had to get rid of a creative labs
PCI128
  for
the same reason. Got a sound blaster audigy for about 100 buckeroos
at
  the
time I snatched it and haven't looked back. Hopefully I am explaining
  this
correctly if not I know that folks out hear can further clear this up.

Subject: Newbee With A Multichannel Soundcard Question?

Hi all.

I am trying to determine whether or not I have a multichannel
 soundcard.
   It
seems that in some cases it is acting like a multichannel card
because
 I
   can
play an audio CD in Winamp, and hear Jaws speak, and music playing
at
  the
same time. However, when playing an MP3 file in Winamp, Jaws will
NOT
speak. Also, when I try to enter the chat rooms in Audio-tips, I
get
  the
message can not access your output device, another program is using
  it.
But, I can have speech and music playing at the same time using
 Windows
Media Player.
My soundcard is a Maestro and I am running a Dell Inspiron5000
laptop
computer with Win98 S. E. and Jaws 4.51.
Is there a setting in control pannel that I need to change that
 controls
   my
soundcard playback?
This has been BUGing me for a long time so ANY help or
assistance
someone could give me would be VERY VERY much appreciated.
T I A,
Paul

Hi, paul. The audigy has a line of external sound device for laptops,
called the audigy 2 nx or xn, don't remember now which one of those it is,
but I own one, use it on my desktop, and it works wonderfully. I got mine
at Fry's Electronics for about 130 smackers. It's a great machine.
